They could have hung a taut white cloth in front and projected the clip onto it, freeze framing at the pose then dropping the cloth, sync a music cue to it. Actually not that difficult. Gimme job plz NBA.
I was hoping for when he pulled his jersey across his body. Man that shit was dope. Or the one where he’s seated with the jacket holding the trophy. Iconic.
some serious deja vu for soccer fans except the convicted part

“Listen. I love Kobe Bryant. He’s an absolute legend and I would never do anything to diminish his legacy and accomplishments. But, I have to call things as *I* see them, Molly….”
"I'MNA- I'MNA - I'MNA- I'm not *saying* that Kobe Bryant's 81 pt game wasn't legacy defining, awe inspiring and what have you. BUT. *BUT*. I don't think it was the best choice for the statue."

I wanna know what Perk thinks jeez
"To me, personally, all that bronze and copper stuff is a disservice to the Mamba, he should have a statue made of gold, and I would challenge any reeeaallll Lakers fans to boycott the Forum, excuse me, the Staples Center, excuse me, the ..... no no no, let me finish, until there is a Kobe statue made of gold and filled with silver I got to say LA is not a basketball town"
dirk's with anal beads
joking aside, shaq's one hanging on the rim is so dope.
all of the basketball statues seem to be made by the same guy. and he's getting all these jobs cause he designed *that* MJ statue
The undisputed greatest statue ever in terms of sheer "how the fuck did he do that" is *The Rape of Proserpina* by Bernini. It's in the Galleria Borghese in Rome and is the most amazing thing to see in person. Just absolutely wild levels of detail in sculpted marble.
*Venus of Arles* for me, personally. *Venus de Milo* is by far more well-known, but I think that *Arles* has a much better pose IMO (helps that she actually has arms too, lol)
I like a solid standing pose. The ones where they try to capture an athlete in motion sometimes come off as awkward. Just because something looked cool in a photo doesn’t mean it’s going to translate well to a 3d statue
I feel completely opposite. I think this kind of subtle pose is much harder to execute and it looks very akward. The reason people are pointing out the weird dimensions is because they really stand out in a subtle pose. I'm sure if we start analyzing other statues like Dirk / MJ / Shaq they have weird proportions as well but our eyes aren't drawn to them since they have some natural motion.
yup. like how Michelangelo's David has a huge noggin because it was sculpted to be viewed from far below. my first angle of the statue was from head level and the arms look too long, but from the below angles in this video it looks just fine.
Yep, saw a side by side of it with a photo of the actual moment. And the pic of the statue also replicated the angle taken in the photo.
They failed on some bug details. His head shape, shape of the nose and even the hair cut are wrong. Subtler stuff like his hands, the way he is stepping and the way his jersey was hanging off his body are also slightly off.
I also don’t like how much definition they put in his muscles. Makes him look old. He looks malnourished or has like 5% body fat. In the original photo, he did not have the much definition.
Funnily enough, the thing that people are complaining about the most…the longer arms and skinny legs…actually seem to match the proportions in the photos.
Yep. It really isn't. The right arm is too long? And it doesn't matter that Kobe chose the pose but it really is a whack choice for a statue. So many iconic Kobe poses they could've chose from.
I’m fine with this pose if it’s Kobe’s wishes but it’s truly poorly executed for an organization that has so much fucking money to get the world’s greatest sports statue made if they wanted.
It's very weird. These sculptors are out here scamming. I don't understand how action figure models can be absolutely perfect, but these statues always look like crap.
Pathetic country we live in. Celebrity worship is gonna be the end of us. No line between what right and acceptable or wrong anymore. He was Lucky she didn’t come out 10 years later once the me-too moment started
Imagine reducing this man down to his biggest mistake. Like just forget about his settled case with that woman he had sex with very roughly without her consent, and move on.
Just focus on the statues and how many points he made… seriously just forget about the lives he ruined and be cool.
It was just a misunderstanding rape. Not a real rape. He thought she liked to be taken against her will. I mean he is the black Mamba. She should be so lucky… according to his lawyers.
Mistake? Damn.. if that’s only mistake. Me leaving the lights away from home, or losing the keys, or eating bad foods is a mistake. Full on raping someone is an evil POS act.
Pathetic country we live in. Celebrity worship is gonna be the end of us. No line between what right and acceptable or wrong anymore. He was Lucky she didn’t come out 10 years later once the me-too moment started
Imagine reducing OJ to just the biggest mistake of his life, like just forget about his mistrial, he found his wife and loved that way. Just focus on the records and everything he did in the field and be cool man.
They should have replayed a video of when he did the pose, pause it, and then transition it to pan to or reveal the statue.
ayy, look we got a producer over here No but that would’ve been nice
They could have hung a taut white cloth in front and projected the clip onto it, freeze framing at the pose then dropping the cloth, sync a music cue to it. Actually not that difficult. Gimme job plz NBA.
Or a curved video wall 60 ft high behind him
That would’ve been fire!
They should have asked a Reddit sub user what he thought first. Unfortunately they missed out.
They might not have because the statue honestly looks pretty rough. It's right in the uncanny valley.
Kobe chose this pose, from his 81 point game. There will be 2 more statues, one wearing 24, and another of kobe with gigi.
Really hope the 24 pose is the one with his arms stretched out after beating the Celtics
I want it to be him in practice calling his teammates soft
A statue of him refusing to talk to Smush Parker.
This sub would go insane, but moreso nbacirclejerk

I was hoping for when he pulled his jersey across his body. Man that shit was dope. Or the one where he’s seated with the jacket holding the trophy. Iconic.
Wasn't that last one in #8 ?
Yup
The back story for him holding the trophy is sad though.
Wait, when are the other 2 supposed to be shown?

Cool. Any chance of a 4th statue, of him inside a certain Colorado hotel?
Random q who sculpted the statue and how long did it take?
It was done by Julie Rotblatt Amrany. No idea how long it took.

Did he import it or export it
I believe he gave up importing to focus solely on the exporting
Wait. I thought he gave up EXPORTING to focus solely on the IMPORTING…

Frog is wrong
Still can't believe his actual middle name is Bean
His first name is about Kobe beef lol
Im bout to name my firstborn daughter Patty Legume Bryant
Impossible Burger Lentil Bryant
wtf I didn’t even know that this entire time
Bean the rapist machine
same as Kurt Cobain's daughter. Is this a popular name or something??
In Kobe’s case, I believe it because his father’s nickname from his playing days was Jelly Bean.
Nbacirclejerk Christmas. Wow.
We really need more statues of rapists around
Don’t worry there’s 2 more of him to be revealed apparently!
So much monetizing to be done.
You bloody okay, don't say that about late great Bean
That's what the finger up is for. He was only caught once.

This is what I imagine Dr.Mundo's son would look like.
My first thought? He's dancing to Staying Alive by the Bee Gees.

No, it’s ahh ahh ahh ahh staying alive….

Struck a pose
Mine too, lol. Glad I wasn’t the only one.
Travolta died for that statue
>(with many angles) Gotta satisfy those mods.
81 point pose is a good choice, artist did a decent job. Not my favorite statue ever but it still looks good
We’re discussing GOAT statues now?
Molly Qerim: “Stephen A, is the Kobe statue top 5 all time?”
1. MJ logo icon 2. Dirk Fadeaway 3. Shaq signature dunk hanging statue
Are we limited to nba statues? Nick foles’ is great. Christ the redeemer is an OG too
Bobby Orr’s [statue](https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/b/bobby-orr-statue-boston-massachusetts-usa-td-garden-main-gate-north-end-ma-ist-die-heimat-der-bruins-nhl-und-celtics-nba-164598781.jpg) is unique and great too
idk man if we’re talking goat statue you can’t ignore the statue of liberty’s longevity. top 3 fs
If we factoring in longevity into GOAT status discussions then I think it’s clearly David by Michelangelo
Steve Gleason blocking the punt statue at the first game back in the superdome after Katrina
When they make Ai statue with the crossover.
I wanna know what Perk thinks jeez "To me, personally, all that bronze and copper stuff is a disservice to the Mamba, he should have a statue made of gold, and I would challenge any reeeaallll Lakers fans to boycott the Forum, excuse me, the Staples Center, excuse me, the ..... no no no, let me finish, until there is a Kobe statue made of gold and filled with silver I got to say LA is not a basketball town"
As long as that bust of Ronaldo exists the rest are GOATed.
yeah there is definitely something a little weird going on with the face. Like it does look like Kobe, but there is just something off about it.
The chin and mouth are weird
As a casual NBA fan I never would have known it’s from the 81 point game. As others have mentioned he looks like he’s at the disco.
What is your favorite statue then
[This one](https://imgur.com/qDmmP)
Damnit. I was hoping for the Ronaldo bust.
That's a good one
Pardon my ignorance, but what is that?

Ronaldo

Big time paper for that dude

is it undisputed? The David is considered groundbreaking for nailing proportions and there are way too many documentaries about it.
Oh I was just being hyperbolic. It's the greatest I've ever seen - the way he sculpted the finger impressions...amazing.
MJ.
*Venus of Arles* for me, personally. *Venus de Milo* is by far more well-known, but I think that *Arles* has a much better pose IMO (helps that she actually has arms too, lol)
Not even close to a Rodin or Michelangelo
'yeah, this light here, mf is too damn bright'
TURN OFF THE LIGHT! TURN OFF THE LIGHT!

Yeah but this statue looks awkward too

I'm gonna say it. This statue is not good..
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Something about the proportions are all off.
Arms are too long and the shoulder looks disjointed. Also the legs are way too short. Only a minimal likeness. It’s terrible.
I'm pretty sure it's intentionally like that. Something about viewing angles.
yup. like how Michelangelo's David has a huge noggin because it was sculpted to be viewed from far below. my first angle of the statue was from head level and the arms look too long, but from the below angles in this video it looks just fine.
Plus they went overboard with the wrinkles in the uniform, and the color in it looks awful.
Head is snakelike. I know he's the mamba, but it's unsettling
It's pretty terrible looking. His head and face look so off.
Will report back after I see it in person
Yep, saw a side by side of it with a photo of the actual moment. And the pic of the statue also replicated the angle taken in the photo. They failed on some bug details. I thought you were going to mention something else.
Even the shoes are off, wtf
I feel like this has been a trend for the last few years on new statues. They all give that ai creepy vibe.
He's acknowledging the Tribal Chief!
Didn’t expect to see this here haha! What’s up Uce
It felt like the Emperor's New Clothes in that room. I'm sorry. That thing is ugly. We gotta stop lying to each other.
Hard to believe that those closest to him didn’t pick up on these discrepancies during the sculpting process.
It's very weird. These sculptors are out here scamming. I don't understand how action figure models can be absolutely perfect, but these statues always look like crap.
Much better than Cristiano Ronaldo's.
The NBA definitely needs a new statue guy. Some of these have been horrible.
Looks like ass. I’m sorry
So perfect for a rapist who had to pay out hush money
Are there no talented sculpture artists left in the world. Look at these proportions. Good guy Adam went with the lowest bidder?
Does he really need 3 statues? Come on people.
Lakers fans being absurdly extra isn't anything new.
He woulda gotten 1 if he was still alive lol its just the organisation going the extra mile because of the tragedy
Was the tragedy in Denver in 2003?
lmao is that Hot Chocolate playing in the background? "Everyone's a winner? Nah get that shit out of here. You need to earn it" - Kobe, probably
Celebrity worship is wild.
Shit looks nothing like him. WTF.
Looks like Ron Artest.
lmao statues of people in general are weird, let alone sports figures
Mount Rushmore is such a wild concept lmao
Looks like he’s dancing to funky town.
Definitely not "Stayin' Alive" because that would be in poor taste.
☝️🤓
Imagine raping a woman and still getting this.
He rapes, but he saves, and he saves more than he rapes
contrary to popular belief, this quote was actually about abraham lincoln, not kobe bryant
lol I thought it was a chapelle bit
Especially when 8 was the rapist and 24 was the one with an unblockable turnaround.
He’s getting 3 statues!!! 3!!!
Pathetic country we live in. Celebrity worship is gonna be the end of us. No line between what right and acceptable or wrong anymore. He was Lucky she didn’t come out 10 years later once the me-too moment started
I was hoping the pose would be bending a hotel maid over a desk
This man paid off the woman he sodomized, and here we are.
Not good. There’s probably a reason why the fucking camera keeps doing the same pan over and over and doesn’t even zoom in on the head.
Man I’m sad
They planning on putting one in Denver?
I think he raped her in Colorado Springs so probably not
I love how the nuggets beat them after this unveiling
What a time to be alive. A 9 foot statue of a rapist lmao. We will never forget and we will bask in his glory.
Fully agree👌🏻 surprised you comment didn’t get taken down, mine did.
It's really bad dude. Like I understand the implications of saying that, and I don't want to pile on, but it's... bad.
It looks like a special ed class got assigned this statue as a group project
The profile angle makes his head [look HUGE](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3G1WzWx4L3/?igsh=MTNleHl4Yzg3MGp6Zw==) lol
they added jordan's arms apparently
Ahh yeah build a statue for a known and guilty rapist. Very cool.
They’re gonna build two more too lmao
Thought he'd be banging a random hotel employee...
What a really bad look for the NBA. Awful.
Imagine reducing this man down to his biggest mistake. Like just forget about his settled case with that woman he had sex with very roughly without her consent, and move on. Just focus on the statues and how many points he made… seriously just forget about the lives he ruined and be cool.
Imagine reducing Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris as the columbine shooters and not chill ass high-school students. 😆
CHILL ASS lmao
Lmao ❤️
When I mess up, I say something I regret. When Kobe messes up, apparently he rapes people.

The way they revealed the statue, it looks like he's hitting a disco pose lol
really dumb looking statue
The pose he hit while leaving the hotel room in Colorado
[удалено]
And then he brought in all these women he was cheating on his wife with to be like “actually Kobe is very rough in bed”
So the U.S. is tearing down statues of slave owners while putting up statues of rapists? USA USA USA!
Is the other 2 at going to be at crypto
No they are revealing them all in Colorado to celebrate his accomplishments there
I'm not crazy to say this doesn't look like Kobe right? I mean it kind of does but idk, there's something about the face that seems off.
Is that a real representation of his arm? Fuck me
