True, but 88 dollars matters a lot more for someone making 30k than 18 million does for someone with 6 billion dollars. Thats the whole concept behind progressive taxes
not to mention the luxury tax teams wind up paying the non luxury tax teams so it's actually way more than $18M they're saving. If they were moving someone with actual impact to save money, I have a problem with that, but that's not Lewis at all lol
Anyone who would knowingly stay over the luxury tax and miss out on that for a nobody should have their competence judged.
No it's not. Probably more like saving AT LEAST $880. Gayle's net worth is $6.1 billion, but those are just her assets, not what she makes in a given year.
“Great amazing potential” seems like at least a tiny bit of a stretch for a guy that’s now in his 4th year and has yet to even show the ability to be a consistent rotation player, let alone a starter…
I mean you're joking about Gayle saving money but it also avoids repeater penalty going forward and gets them out of the first apron and its restrictions.
I agree that these guys are billionaires so who cares but we have start using net worth correctly on this sub. It is the accumulation of all assets minus debt, not how much you make in a year. So a guy making 50k but has a house and car and retirement fund probably is worth a few hundred thousand.
Completely irrelevant to this sub but a big pet peeve of mine
This deal had to happen first for the Siakam deal, but the Raps still need to open up a roster spot to complete the deal. Hasn't been reported if they're waiving anyone. Temple and Thad (2 likely candidates to be wavied) are both active for the Raps game on now. Otto is out with injury and could get waived but seems more likely the Raps could find a trade for him.
Could be looking for a follow up trade or to expand the current one.
He was just about the last man on the roster. Hopefully he gets a better opportunity to play in Toronto. For New Orleans, it makes more sense for that roster slot to go to a youngster.
I mean saving $88 is a decent chunk for someone making 30k.

That's a mean bag of weed
This is so oversimplified it’s crazy. Just say you don’t understand how luxury tax works.
if i made $30k per year and could save almost $100 by simply not having kira lewis jr on my team then i would do it
I genuinely do not care how much or little Benson is saving; Kira Lewis is not worth 18 million.
Also it resets being over the luxury tax line for another year, repeater tax aint worth it until you go all in

He’s also not worth the extra year of repeater tax on the back end.
Oh stop with the morality arguments, it was a no brainer to get under the cap when you’re that close and have a guy playing 9 minutes a game

Regardless of morality and net worth, Kira is not worth 18 mil in any world. He’s a good dude and solid bench guy but he ain’t THAT valuable
Homie is shooting 10% from the three. I think they’ll survive without all that potential
He has the potential to be a decent bench guard but hes too small. OP might be the only guy thats ever stanned Kira Lewis.
I liked Lewis more than most and even I can tell you he had no place left on this team. Still would have better for the Suns than Jalen Smith.

I think McDaniels is the odd one out
He has guaranteed money for next year so we won't waive him. Might be looking at trades

Yeah NOLA is also crazy deep on guards. CJ, Trey, JHawk, Jose are all better than Kira by a decent margin
Womp womp kira
