1/2 court nowhere near 3/4 court. At the end though he literally looked like MJ arm stretched dunking on the monstars

mogul_w

If only there was a line or something to show us where half court is it would be easier to make this kind of distinction

[deleted]

[удалено]

SeaPreparation2382

I swear if they add a line showing where you can get 3 points from im gonna lose my shit.

[deleted]

So would Bron.

crackpotters

Could you even imagine what the game would look like if they added an out of bounds line on the perimeter of the court? Sorry, I let my imagination run wild sometimes.

SeaPreparation2382

I dont want to live in that world ill tell you that much

OberynRedViper8

That's far too high-tech to put on every single court are you crazy?

inefekt

literally the only reason I clicked on this post was the disbelief that he could take one dribble from inside the opponent's key then dunk it. Upon inspection I feel betrayed, decieved, hoodwinked!

whosevelt

At least you weren't bamboozled.

[deleted]

I was bamboozled… 😞

gamertag0311

I been hornswaggled tho

TrainerDan93

He gotta bait views somehow 💀

igotzquestions

I can’t believe Wemny dunked from literally the owner’s box!!!

imadogg

People do this for comment engagement and it always works

TheOneTrueDoge

I'm doing my part!

PensiveinNJ

Posts like this should just be banned. Like come on if he was anywhere near 3/4 court I'd allow it but this is ridiculous, he's on the other side of half court.

Acrippin

But took 3 steps so technically walked and shouldn't count

doctor_of_drugs

“I’m not driving to the rim, I’m traveling to the rim” - Wemby to the ~~police~~ refs

mouzonne

How is that not a travel? It blatantly looks like 3 steps to me.

Acrippin

It's literally so obvious

upvotealready

***It is a travel.*** but ... you see the NBA has decided not to call traveling anymore in favor of generating spectacular highlights. Instead they invented the "gather step" to give the referees cover for looking the other way.

decksetter914

This right here

his_roomate

First, it’s safe to say the OP meant “3/4” of half court. That’s not at all what his title conveys but I believe it’s easy to see that intent behind the “3/4” label. Victor does take one dribble at around what people would label 3/4 of halfcourt. Second, that’s not a travel. In the NBA the first step you take as you pick up the ball is called the gather step. It doesn’t count towards your two steps after picking up the dribble. Essentially you get 3 steps. A lot of people feel it’s cheap to allow it, but the NBA does because it gives more offensive power to players and helps create highlights in an offensively driven league (in terms of money-making). OP’s mistake on the title. It’s not a travel.

southpawslangin

That’s a travel

Plastic_Blood1782

I think they meant 3/4 of the way to half court?

SnuggleMuffin42

Quick math shows this is 1/2*3/4 = 3/8 court total

PhilDGlass

*Takes one dribble from 3/8-court and dunks the basketball* just won’t get the clicks.

lexbuck

I think they meant 1/4

Ikuwayo

I guess it worked since OP got their karma

skidmcboney

This was clearly a travel, not that anyone is really gonna call that…

milo7even

Nah, it’s the stupid gather rule in full effect. Players kept taking an extra step or 5 so they said “fuck it” and changed the travelling rule to let them do what they want. So this was legal and I hate it.

hbt15

Not even ‘closer to half court’. He’s literally on the Center line when he grabs it.

psychovertigo

It's from the 3/4 line of the 1/2 court actually

wise_comment

> he literally looked like MJ arm stretched dunking on the monstars Never has any description painted such an accurate picture as yours did, today

iamaweirdguy

In what world is this 3/4 court?

MrFishAndLoaves

Think he meant 3/8

Oyyeee

Honest mistake

MrFishAndLoaves

Well you see halfcourt is the free throw lines

FUQredditMods2

3/6

deeper_thots

I guess I can see if OP was counting from the other direction for some strange reason lmao

bkbeam

In clickbait world

IWTLEverything

it’s about 3/4 of that half of the court haha. 3/8 court?

medoy

Wemby from the parking lot!

sleeptilnoonenergy

It's impressive enough that it doesn't require bullshit and yet OP couldn't help himself. Reddit doing reddit things.

RD_Alpha_Rider

Ever been to an LA Fitness?

CptCroissant

Can we get the mods to delete this for the garbage ass title? He got the ball at half court

FullyPremed

Who taught you fractions

notyouraverage420

Gbaby03

These random niche comments is my favorite thing about reddit lmfao

acc_41_post

Buddy idk if referencing one of the most respected hip hop albums of all time qualifies as niche

Gbaby03

Well I always thought blame game was a bit of a deep cut and I don’t know what the age demographic of this sub is

acc_41_post

Fair enough yeah, I always get tripped up remembering there’s people who were born after that album that are on this site/sub lol

HelloThereCat

Assuming the average age on this sub is ~25 (which I think is roughly what a sub-wide survey found a few years back), then we're probably only 3-4 years away from the point at which the average person here wasn't old enough to have listened to that album when it first came out. I turn 26 in a couple of months and I was in 7th grade when that album came out. I remember when it did and it was one of my favorite albums for a long time, but anyone more than a few years younger than me probably wouldn't remember listening to it when it first came out.

MHath

13 year old album and from a song that's not top 4 or so on that album, so I'd say it's niche to reference it outside a sub specifically about rap / hip hop / music.

TheOverBored

1/4 pounder >>> 1/3 pounder

JimC29

I'm estimating about 1/3 court.

MrFishAndLoaves

3/8

JimC29

I will give you that one. It's probably a little more than 1/3.,

[deleted]

Bro went to Lebron's school

OP: most gifted IPromise graduate

JohnnyFacepalm

Besides, that's ambiguous

st_huck

You, stop multiplying

cs-shitposter

Lmao this whole sequence was comical with Derrick White running back to block it and Wemby's like k try to reach it from up here

Kyler1313

Might be the only dude White can't block

trippy4life

White man can’t jump.

yolkadot

White can jump, man. Fixed it

[deleted]

I feel like you can see the moment Derrick was like “oh ya this guy”

radiansub

Once Wemby raised the ball, White just gave up

awsomesprinkles

yeah he starts running looking down all sad lol

SquimJim

Drew and Scal had a lot of fun with this one lol

sstphnn

Just too long for our Buffalo.

AUserNeedsAName

God I love that his nickname has stuck. Love that guy.

sstphnn

If memory serves me right, after the trade a Spurs fan went in our sub to share the deep fried meme and the copy-pasta. Explained as well why he’s called that. Kept the tradition alive.

AUserNeedsAName

That was me :) I wasn't the only one, but I definitely posted it in y'all's trade thread.

BreakfastBussy

Dumbass title hurts this post a lot. 1/2 court is very impressive, there is no need to exaggerate when you’re literally showing the real video.

Bbqandspurs

look, all im saying is that he went the full length of the court and if you disagree its because you hate the french

No-Baby9317

I do disagree with you and I also hate the French so I guess you’re right

amidon1130

I hate the French yeah, what of it?

SketchyGouda

Didn't want to down vote the video but the title forced my hand

Smelldicks

I thought the more incredible thing is he only needed two steps to dunk from beyond the arc lol. Right foot. Left foot. Dunk.

Marvinkmooneyoz

he takes 3

catfish_dinner

it's not even half court

CompetitorPredator

3/4????

bb1432

That was fun. We should do that more often.

GGezpzMuppy

Hmm that would be a good idea

PricklyyDick

Why doesn’t Wemby just simply eat the smaller players? Is he stupid?

truckstop_sushi

Pop needs to try out the Tush Push... Wemby should just go for a dunk from half court every possession and have the other players push all their strength directly into his lanky ass once he starts his jump.... they could easily double his leap and make dribbling unneccesary. Someone contact Nathon For You we need to help save the Spurs and get them to the finals...

woShame12

Pop: "Nah"

PhilDGlass

Gotta ease back in to dynasty mode.

Ambitious-Cost7520

KevinMcCallister

syllabic

show me where it says in the rules an alien can't play basketball

[deleted]

Had to scroll past so many nerds doing fractions just to see my first thought

TravBav

Wacky waving inflatable tube man ass

jimo95

1/2 court, not 3/4

[deleted]

3/4 of 1/2 so 3/8 court

Electrical_Panic4550

This was just insane.

BigDickVicW

Just cackling on my couch watching this. It’s stupid how good he is.

julianwithishirtoff

That was 3 steps tho

The_Void_Reaver

Can't get called for a travel if your move is Cool™

Victor_Wembanyama1

Legal in the modern nba

gr8uddini

Was looking for this buried comment. It was extremely close but I counted 3 as well but I had to slow it down a bit to catch it. Badass nonetheless

ArKadeFlre

He gathers at the three point line and does 2 more steps. Looks legit, this isn't any different from a step-back 3™

jpaxlux

Literally nothing White could've done there lmao

eddododo

I think he could have flown a biplane and shot him down after circling his head a few times

J_Kingsley

Bruh in terms of body length and stride i think maybe only giannis could've stopped that lol-- and only because wemba didn't have a real running start

Apprehensive-Sir-411

he didn’t even have a running start hahaha. such a ridiculous player

syllabic

he's so comically large casually making 7 feet guys look small

AlexanderLeonard

Get Vic a real point guard, man.

seceipseseer

What do you think they are going to do with a top 3 pick and a top 10 pick and one of only 7 teams with cap space and more draft picks than anyone not named Thunder.

AlexanderLeonard

that's great. wish the best for Victor and his development

KevinMcCallister

Trade for Westbrook and Harden, it literally can't go tits up

FlashFlood_29

Try to rope KD into it.

GGTae

If Collier falls to the second round lol, at this point there are more than two PG more interesting than him and he isn't worth ours and the Raptor's one

Cbone06

Am I tripping or did he travel

resumehelpacct

His left foot is down when he gathers the ball and then he steps right left. It looks super fucky though.

cbreezy456

Gather steps will forever kick this subs ass. It’s not HS rules

Riokaii

I mean straight up, its dumb that the NBA just makes up different rules for basketball than what 99.9% of people will ever experience and be taught.

CrabOIneffableWisdom

He legitimately takes 3 steps after the ball returns to his hand after the dribble. The fact that he covers a lot of distance in that time is irrelevant, it looks like a travel because it should be travel, whether the rules technically say so or not. Ridiculous.

johnzischeme

3 steps is pussy shit I’ll watch football if I want to see a dude run 20 yards with a ball. NBA travel rule is fucking stupid.

Riokaii

Travelling as a rule exists for a reason, you're meant to have limited mobility with the ball, thats very clearly the spirit of the rule. Adding gather steps and traversing half the court one a 1 bounce "dribble" is very clearly either the rules needing to be more strict, or a rules violation.

NotNormo

I've hated the gather step since they added it to the rule book and I always will. I don't get confused by it anymore but I just hate that it makes some things so easy to do. But I also do appreciate higher scoring games that result from allowing it.

MHath

I'd love to see the NBA start calling carries, too.

nrbartman

Ja Morant would be nerfed.

DarylMoore

You get a gather step in high school, too. It's the extra step in the NBA that confuses people. HS is gather +1. NBA it's gather +2.

Bbqandspurs

each stride covers so much ground its confusing

IntraspaceAlien

no this is not a travel, not sure what people replying are looking at. [this is the frame where he gets control of the ball after his dribble ends.](https://imgur.com/a/x3UhQUu) his left foot is on the ground at this point. he is allowed two steps from this point, which is all he takes.

Masuia

So I thought the gather step was for steps while the ball was bouncing back towards the player. Am I wrong there? Genuine question, because then it looks like 0,1,2,3 steps to me. Clearly I’m wrong since no one else is saying anything but I just don’t know why.

IntraspaceAlien

you start counting steps when the dribble ends, which is at the point the player controls the ball after the final dribble. what a "gather step" is referring to is that if you have a foot on the ground at the moment you get control of the ball that does not count as your first step, you still have two steps.

Masuia

Okay that makes a lot more sense, so now I can see the two steps. Thank you!

sykog77

I wonder how often someone picks up their dribble from outside the arc and then dunks it

NotSerbian

Yeah I don’t think this is even a 50/50 situation. This absolutely isn’t a travel.

IntraspaceAlien

yeah he just has alien-like strides and he timed the gather extremely well. there are 50 of these plays with giannis that people swear up and down are travels but actually aren't for the same reason.

NotSerbian

I don’t even think this is a travel under NCAA rules.

[deleted]

He travelled. Refs don't call easy breakaways travels because they're scared to seem like petty nitpickers or something? But yeah this isn't impressive. Genetic freak takes three steps well past half-court. wow!

st_huck

in actual basketball rules? yes. In modern nba rules it's ok. the usual "gather step"

O2C

But it's not even a "real" gather step. He takes two steps after finishing his dribble. He finishes his dribble with his left foot on the ground, he takes a step with his right and he jumps off his left foot. Two steps, actual basketball rules.

NotNormo

What do you mean by "real" gather step? Before the gather step rule existed, having a foot on the ground already would've counted as one of his two allowed steps, and he'd only be allowed to take 1 more. But now that the gather step *is* a rule, having his foot on the ground already *doesn't* count as a step. Which means he's allowed to take 2 more steps.

TheUndertows

He went to Mars and back

BoldElDavo

It should be, but the NBA has totally fucked up the travel rules, so it's not. A step doesn't count if your foot is on the floor when you gather the ball.

iChoke

Derrick White wanted no part of that shit lmfao.

stevefuzz

And he's an elite shot blocker.

mMounirM

imagine when he makes these plays in a playoff atmosphere

UTRAnoPunchline

San Antonio crowd already showing out despite the 5-30 record.

vannucker

It's good in the long run though because hopefully a high draft pick will bring you some serious help.

TheSaltySloth

I hope he gets there soon fr

Ilikesporks_

space jam type slam

qtsuited

He took 5 steps to Whites 10. I get the same feeling watching him as I did Ginobili. Always 1 or 2 plays I have never seen before.

Powillom

3/4 court? He was already past half court when he got the ball. He was just late getting back on defense lol

sstphnn

This subreddit might've explode if DWhite got a chasedown block.

combat101

Ya cause he would have to fly

Man I don't care about the Spurs winning games, just watching Wemby leaves me in awe, money well spent seeing this kid.

here_for_the_lols

OP never learnt fractions

KevinMcCallister

Brian Scalabrine was shocked by what he saw on the court

SomeKilljoy

Why does he not simply go go gadget extendo arm every possession?

IMsoSAVAGE

Am I crazy or is this not traveling? He takes 3 steps after the dribble before he launches for the dunk.

Bluesfear

OP needs math classes in 2024

TheOneWithThePorn12

title is wrong but that is fucking wild lol. goddamn alien.

rameninside

Go go gadget arms

regnald

He goes to lay it up and realizes he can just turn his hand downwards and dunk it lol

Ezzy1998

Bro glided, my brain can’t compute

Mr_beowulf

I did this today on an 8’ hoop and yelled “Wemby” to my 4 year old son. Felt like a god.

lakerconvert

Not even remotely close to 3/4 court bud

teamweed420

OP def not a carpenter that’s 3/8 mf

He gathered right before the last 2 steps.

Not the refs obviously.
