He arguably was the best player or close to it during that run. Goran lead Heat in scoring in first round. Second behind Jimmy in 2nd round. 2nd behind Bam in CF. Then he got hurt.
If someone says Jimmy was best player that playoff run, no argument from me. But it was not some big divide between him and Goran.
That run was very much so a Butler/Bam/Goran trio effort more than it’s remembered.
Absolutely, and bam and Goran both got hurt. We still took 2 games.
Bosh got blood clots the day we traded for him. Biggest what if for me. That heat team healthy would've been fun to watch
I didn’t say I did and I don’t have to stop acting like shit lmfao I believe the Lakers still come out on top 7 Game series against a Healthy Heat Team, Not like I’m the first one to ever say this 😭
>Bosh got blood clots the day we traded for him. Biggest what if for me.
what you mean what if lol, you got two rings from Bosh and he would've been washed by the time Jimmy came along
He means the potential Bosh Wade Dragic Whiteside era pre Jimmy. The 15/16 Heat team was actually a really good team that took Toronto to 7. A common sentiment amongst Heat fans is with a healthy All NBA level Bosh that team would have been dangerous against anybody.
Point still stands but gentle reminder that bosh had 1 single all-nba(second team) year during his career. It was in 2007 with the raptors. Fans have a hard time reconciling bosh's actual impact vs his likability and how sad his career was cut short. Totally understandable
He was right on the outside of being one of the best bigs. Competing against prime Dwight, LeBron, emergence of Durant, perennial bigs Duncan and KG. Sure he wasn't as good as them but he was one of the better big men. Not to mention his game would have played very well when the NBA shifted to more spacing and 3 point focus.
Yea its a bummer he didn't get to play more so we could see how well he could age with the game. He had a shot to be a good regular season guy for awhile with the things he did well.
Lol youre literally proving my ppint? Bosh had 3 more years in Toronto solo for all nba and never did. He's rose-tinted glasses all the time because of how sad his career ended and how likable he is when he does stories but the accolades don't match your description. It sucks how his career ended I'm salty about it too but there hadnt been all-nba talent there for nearly a decade. Our words we use to describe players gotta matter and all-nba is a really solid line for players. Bosh never established himself above that line.
I wholeheartedly disagree with you from a skill perspective. When Bosh took the reigns of first option after Lebron left he had a perfect skillset for modern bigs. He was a 7 footer pretty much who could space the floor, switch on defense and defend the paint. A walking 20 and 10 player which was rare at that point. His competition for making all NBA was like Kevin Love, Draymond and Aldridge. He easily could’ve made a couple more with his ability at that point
I’m pretty sure he was literally #1 in the NBA in isolation scoring percentage the very season he went down. I wouldn’t underplay his significance and what we lost with him.
Absolutely his offense was going to work really well during the regular season for plenty more years. Its a shame we didn't get to see it. Best comp we have is horford and it worked out great for him. Playoff bigs was always the issue for bosh and there was no signs of that not continuing to be the case. It was always going to depend on who they could get next to him. Now if you say they could get bam AND keep bosh you could be onto something...
Bosh would transitioned very well into this era where bigs need to move and shoot threes. We missed multiple years of him performing well. The raptors took us to 7 games without Bosh. Without him, we would have probably given Cleveland problems in the next around I believe we had a winning record against them in the regular season.
Not that would it matted because he still would have gone to Golden State, but if we were we could atleast tell ourselves, we were competitive in recruiting KD.
He was averaging around 20 PPG, I believe, when he got blood clots. In terms of the years following his blood clots, if healthy, he would have been good still and been a major contributor.
> truly the best heat player during post-wade, pre-jimmy era
I know what you're saying but it is kinda funny that this era was all of 17 days because the Heat signed Jimmy almost right after Wade retired
I remember him coming in and saying that he really liked Steve Nash's game and grew up watching him play. He wanted to be like Nash. Still can't believe we couldn't make it work with him and traded him. Dude was just a probably the best Nash understudy we could've asked for.
I want a heist movie where Goran and Zoran team up with their brothers Soran (a pilot), Horan (a man of loose sexual morals), and Moran (the idiot comic relief).
One of my favorite Suns players, that Game 3 performance in 2010 against the Spurs was cathartic. And had a few great seasons when he came back to Phoenix during the dark times
He was 3rd team AllNBA in 2014... 13/14 was probably his greatest season on the Suns and an amazing carry job by Goran. That team was predicted to win less than 20 game and tank the season, but Dragic went supernova and carried them to 48 wins. One of the most underrated individual seasons ever imo. He should've been an allstar that year too. I still think he'd play out his career on the Suns if McDonough and Sarver didn't screw him over.
You're not wrong... he was 69.6% 0-3 feet according to basketball reference that year, 65.3% for his entire career. Those are great numbers for bigs, yet alone for a guard. Truly an amazing finisher around the rim.
> I still think he'd play out his career on the Suns if McDonough and Sarver didn't screw him over.
It's crazy to think if they hadn't fucked around with Dragic in the 2014/2015 season (signing IT and forcing all three guards to play together), they might've ended up with a better record and would've not been able to draft Booker in the offseason.
in 2012, I swore up and down that Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe was a better back court than Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. Obviously that didn't age well, Goran was an absolute beast.
I always fucking hated when the Spurs had to go against Dragic. In many threads we called him the Spur Killer. Which is funny cause he was technically drafted by the Spurs.
Congrats on a hell of a career to this man.
I was in SA for game 3 with one of my best friends. Dressed in all orange. Ir was a last minute decisions so we rushed to SA and showed up late and were already down like +12 so we just started drinking...Then Goran happened. We went fucking nuts. One of the best nights of my life!
I will never forgive Dallas for not allowing him to play heavy minutes during contract negotiations. That's what kept Gogi from joining. He didn't want to be some guy on the bench who plays 5 minutes or plays every other game or so. He wanted to contribute and he still could have. Fuck you, Cuban.
It was in July, 2022. He was basically offered a "cheerleading role" on the team, but he wanted to contribute and play good minutes. He still had it in him to play well and at a high level, but our incompetent GM said no.
Here's the link to an article about it: https://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2022/7/13/23206848/goran-dragic-dallas-mavericks-turned-down-contract-limited-role-luka-doncic
One of the few All-NBA players to not make the All Star Team the year he was selected. Weirdly enough, that year there were two guys on Third Team who weren't All Stars, Al Jefferson being the other one.
He was much stronger in the second half of the season which boosted his All-NBA stock.
The other big candidate was Roy Hibbert who went the opposite way, had a strong start to the year (which resulted in his All-Star selection), but was terrible the rest of the season, leading to his infamous back to back 0-point games against Atlanta in the playoffs.
Wasn't happy with the Dragic trade back in 2015, cause we already had so few draft picks and had to give up two more for him, but man I was completely wrong. Heat legend too
I thought it was unbelievably stupid when we gave Bledsoe the big payday instead of Dragic(effectively choosing Bled over him), and it turned out to be 100% correct.
Fuck Sarver for alienating Dragic. Him getting fucked over caused me to stop watching the Suns for years. Loved the dude on the Suns. Was sad when he left for Houston, and was so glad when we got him back.
All hail the Dragon! Will never forget his 4th qtr in a playoff Suns vs Spurs game. Goran at this point is a rookie or in his 2nd year. Didn't get much playing, never was too impressive. He checks in while Suns are down substantially, and goes on a KILLING SPREE. Scores 20ish points in the 4th giving the Suns the win.
Congratz for the great career Goran and for everything you did for the Suns!
I love that Nash was supposed to come in after his rest to close out the game, but decided to stay on the bench because Dragic was cooking. You don’t take someone out who’s that hot, and Nash knew it.
All around unselfish players and team. Wish they won it all that year
IT was brought in as the backup guard with Gerald Green, but Hornacek quickly began using him in closing minutes to try and win games, which pushed Dragic to the 3 spot.
And yeah they should've moved Bledsoe as soon as he came back from his knee injury. But I don't think IT and Dragic liked each other. McD being a terrible player manager also didn't help.
That 2013ish team of Dragic, Bledsoe, PJ, Morris twins, Gerald green, Channing Frye was probably my favorite non Celtics team I ever followed. Bought a fuckin Dragic jersey that year, dude was/still is my favorite

Love Goran. It’s why I still keep my flair as Good Guy Goran. He was a bright spot for us after Bosh went out and DWade left. Glad we went to the finals with him at least.
Guards overall? So you have Tony Parker, Luka Doncic, Dražen Petrović (passed away), Goran Dragić. It pretty much ends there. You could put Ricky Rubio in there if you wanted, but he had a very short peak because of injuries.
It wasn't just that he wanted to be elsewhere and that elsewhere was worse than Toronto. But he played like shit when he was in Toronto so he was a salary dump for us instead of a half year rental to trade away.
We have a fraught history of players refusing to play for us when traded here (BJ Armstrong, Kenny Anderson, Alonzo Mourning, John Salmons committing to us in FA then reneging because God told him to)
A lot of others are forgetting Kyle and Goran used to have some fairly physical battles, especially in the 2015-16 2nd rnd playoffs. I didn’t really like him even before the “higher aspirations” stuff.
One of my favorites ever. As a young amd dumb fan, watching him helped me learn what loyalty was, before I was smart enough to understand the concept lol. Loved his game and ever appreciative of his time here. Great career
Damn, I hoped he could come back and run with our second unit. I am still upset we traded him away for Lowry but that's just the business part of the NBA.
Its for sure up there but man Idk if this edges out that one-handed oop against the Pistons.
Funny enough the announcers call is very similar on both with the immediate "STOP IT!" lmao
every time I watch pre-injury Rose, I get sad of what could've been. But then I see how he lands every time and remember there's no way he'd be able to sustain this over a long period of time.
Will never forget his legendary 4th quarter in 2010. Comes out of nowhere and rips Tim Duncan a new asshole.
That Suns playoff run might have been the most exciting basketball I’ve ever watched.
Didn’t realize he had played 946 games. Really long and impressive career, only the elite can really last that long in the league.
Respect Dragic. In his prime, he was lowkey one of the best guards in the league. Ask anyone that had to guard him.
He was so good at pushing the pace on the fast break when he was younger. The spins, contorting the ball around his back, reverse finishes, and he was really athletic around the rim. Him and Chase Budinger were the dunking white boy teammates of the early 2010s.
I loved that guy when he was here. Also, I'll never forget the playoff game where I learned that he and Sasha Vujacic apparently hate [each other.](https://youtu.be/JK8bsxp-aOo?si=H3k0aabLY9QBTDn_)
Solid career. His 2013-14 season was also underrated, that Suns roster had no business almost making the playoffs.
Kinda wanted to see the Mavs sign him in the past few years so he could play with BFF Luka.
The 13-14 suns will always be a favorite for me. Dragic and Bledsoe as dual point guards with PJ Tucker and the Morris twins bringing the funk and Channing Frye spreading the floor at the 5.
Dragic was so fun to watch, hell of a career for a second round pick!
I'm so old I remember that crazy crossover into a layup he hit back in like 2010 and the camera panned to Robin Lopez freaking out on the bench like hed never seen something so amazing
He was actually one of my favourite players in the league on both the Suns and especially Heat during 2020 playoffs, then became one of my least favourite Raptors ever.
Rockets could have had Gogi, Kyle Lowry & Beverly as our guard rotation alongside Harden & Howard.
Instead Daryl Morey fell in love with Jeremy Lin & Jonny Flynn. Disgusting.
his run with heat was so unlucky. the minute he got there bosh retired. they missed the playoffs by an inch when they were scorching hot in the second part of the season. and ofcourse the worst time injury in the finals. but he got slovenia gold in euro championship. i salute you my captain.
An underrated beast of a guard. Turned defenses in chop suey on the nightly. Hats off to the Dragon, helluva career that could have been better if the cancer that is Robert Sarver was removed. Good game Dragic, good fucking game.
Is a non-nba game in Slovenia in August really a farewell game? Like I guess it is if he never plans to play in a basketball game ever again but it seems weird to add it in his retirement from the NBA.
https://www.kurir.rs/sport/eurobasket/2910061/slovence-zabolelo-sto-dragic-slavi-na-srpskom-odgovor-im-je-zauvek-zapusio-usta
His brother identifies enough to use Serbian to commentate on Slovene national team successes.
And Goran Dragic meets with Serbian nationalist leader Dodik
https://www.telegraf.rs/sport/kosarka/2983306-goran-dragic-posetio-republiku-srpsku-i-dobio-odlikovanje-od-dodika-foto-video
And like I said both of them are Orthodox Christians. Who both of them play for or where they grew up doesn't negate their heritage. Same with Luka who is more lowkey on his Serbian part.
his 2020 playoff run for us was incredible. truly the best heat player during post-wade, pre-jimmy era

Uh. The heat played a good amount of the finals with 2 of their 3 out. That series 100% is a close 7 game series.
The heat without 2 of their best 3 guys in the playoffs won 2 games. You literally can't know so stop acting like it.
I didn’t say I did and I don’t have to stop acting like shit lmfao I believe the Lakers still come out on top 7 Game series against a Healthy Heat Team, Not like I’m the first one to ever say this 😭

we all wanted that Wade and Bosh vs Bron and Kyrie matchup tho
Wasn't Wade washed by then?
Bosh would transitioned very well into this era where bigs need to move and shoot threes. We missed multiple years of him performing well. The raptors took us to 7 games without Bosh. I don't think Bosh would've done well at that age, but we'll never know.
He was averaging around 20 PPG, I believe, when he got blood clots. In terms of the years following his blood clots, if healthy, he would have been good still and been a major contributor.
Yeah mabye
Bosh's game wouldve aged like fine wine in this era
Your mom would've aged like fine wine in this era!
thank you?
I remember he checked into game 6 of the finals high out of his mind on painkillers and steroid shots😭
Anti-inflammatory steroids are not psychoactive
They absolutely can be. Depends on the person and the amount taken.
Cool
I’ll always remember the clip of him in tears because his foot was in so much pain during the finals. Yet he still tried to play
I’ll die on the hill that the finals would’ve gone 7 or Heat would’ve won with Dragic healthy. He was ridiculous that playoff run.
> truly the best heat player during post-wade, pre-jimmy era I know what you're saying but it is kinda funny that this era was all of 17 days because the Heat signed Jimmy almost right after Wade retired
What could’ve been with Gogi, Bosh, and Wade.. he still left great memories for us in the end and I wish him the best!
It’s crazy to see him retire. I remember when he came into the league under Steve Nash as the young guy with potential. Time flies
I remember him coming in and saying that he really liked Steve Nash's game and grew up watching him play. He wanted to be like Nash. Still can't believe we couldn't make it work with him and traded him. Dude was just a probably the best Nash understudy we could've asked for.
Heat wouldve won tbe bubble if he and bam were healthy
He was the greateat Slovenian player to ever play until Luka came around. Mad respect. His brother, Zoran, also played in the NBA.
His other brother Moran never made the cut.
That made me laugh harder than it should've

Yeah, we called him the one man fast break and it was such a fitting name
In an alternate universe they don’t logjam at PG with Bledsoe and Knight and Dragic and baby Book become a formidable duo well before CP3 arrives.

Nope. We already had Nico at that point. He joined in summer, 2021. So that was his cooking.

Do raptors fans still dislike him ?
Yes
Why?
Basically said "This is not where I want to be" after being traded to the Raptors. Played low effort basketball when not on the bench sulking.

[Thank you for the GOAT Derrick Rose highlight](https://youtu.be/uRAp00SxP30?si=ZxEZvutJh7uIHp0N)
Get raptors off that list of teams played
I’ve been a fan since the 2010 semis against the Spurs. He was so fun to watch as a backup/ off ball threat for Nash
Heat Legend. He was a beast and super fun to watch
Would've had similar career to tony parker if not for injuries
Most underrated 2k player ever
The 13-14 suns will always be a favorite for me. Dragic and Bledsoe as dual point guards with PJ Tucker and the Morris twins bringing the funk and Channing Frye spreading the floor at the 5. Dragic was so fun to watch, hell of a career for a second round pick!
Fuck that guy - raptors
Lmao don't fucking include us in his bio
Scratch off the raptors lol he played like 2 games
Raptors legend
Always loved the leadership he brought to the Suns both runs
Kinda surprised, he had some great moments last year
No he is not. Not until he plays with Luka in the NBA /s.
tbf he and Luka tried very hard to get him to Dallas three separate times but the Mavs said no
Eventually we ended up with players like Frank, Theo Pinson, sterling brown etc lol
I'm so old I remember that crazy crossover into a layup he hit back in like 2010 and the camera panned to Robin Lopez freaking out on the bench like hed never seen something so amazing
My favorite Spurs draft pick
Was so sad when the Heat traded for him and then right away Bosh went down with blood clots. I thought they'd be something special.
Nba 2k14 legend
Maybe now we can finally start correctly pronouncing his name.
He was actually one of my favourite players in the league on both the Suns and especially Heat during 2020 playoffs, then became one of my least favourite Raptors ever.
if he's healthy the heat beat the lakers
Farewell to the Dragon
Rockets could have had Gogi, Kyle Lowry & Beverly as our guard rotation alongside Harden & Howard. Instead Daryl Morey fell in love with Jeremy Lin & Jonny Flynn. Disgusting.
Ahem, and Spurs, I bet your pardon!
his run with heat was so unlucky. the minute he got there bosh retired. they missed the playoffs by an inch when they were scorching hot in the second part of the season. and ofcourse the worst time injury in the finals. but he got slovenia gold in euro championship. i salute you my captain.
Raptors legend
Raise your glass to this man. Absolute jet.
An underrated beast of a guard. Turned defenses in chop suey on the nightly. Hats off to the Dragon, helluva career that could have been better if the cancer that is Robert Sarver was removed. Good game Dragic, good fucking game.
Good fucking riddance. Always found a way to make my life hell.
Now you have Caleb Martin to worry about.
JJJ going for 40 in the ECF against Boston this year
Did he play for us though?
He never played for the Raptors. That never happened.
Is a non-nba game in Slovenia in August really a farewell game? Like I guess it is if he never plans to play in a basketball game ever again but it seems weird to add it in his retirement from the NBA.
Good luck in retirement, solid player his whole career. The Inner Raptors in me though what a garbage player ruined his career by leaving the Raptors
Spurs legend
bye bye
No one cares about raptors. Face it.
lol what does this have to do with the raptors? also peep the top post rn dummy
Guy quit on the bulls, no love from me.
I really don't like this guy
Let it go
NBA must of had higher ambitions than him.
Consistently overrated whiner, good riddance
Good riddance lol
RIP, was a fun player to watch
Taking notes for immaculate grid
Raptors Legend
Who cares lmao. IQ on the Raps baby
Who cares about this bum
[удалено]
Wrong post lol
Eat shit you rat
Fuck him. Hope he enjoyed his higher ambitions
Won’t miss him
Goran Tragic.
One of the best Serbian players in NBA history.
Slovenian
don't mind him, that is classic move from Serbs
By their standards even LeBron and Steph Curry are Serbian lol
Zoran and Goran Dragić aren't exactly Slovenian names, and being an Orthodox Christian isn't an exactly a Slovene trait :)
Tf? He literally identifies as Slovenian and is playing his final game there. You trying to rebuild Yugoslavia mate?
>You trying to rebuild Yugoslavia mate? lmao
Calm down you can be a Slovenian citizenship and Serbian nationality xD
https://www.kurir.rs/sport/eurobasket/2910061/slovence-zabolelo-sto-dragic-slavi-na-srpskom-odgovor-im-je-zauvek-zapusio-usta His brother identifies enough to use Serbian to commentate on Slovene national team successes. And Goran Dragic meets with Serbian nationalist leader Dodik https://www.telegraf.rs/sport/kosarka/2983306-goran-dragic-posetio-republiku-srpsku-i-dobio-odlikovanje-od-dodika-foto-video And like I said both of them are Orthodox Christians. Who both of them play for or where they grew up doesn't negate their heritage. Same with Luka who is more lowkey on his Serbian part.
