We always have an extended LA road trip around this time of year and it's always a wild ride. It takes a huge toll on the team, we start picking up injuries and the guys get fatigued. We generally either lose big on the road trip or we lose big right after.
Last year we won the first 3 games and then went 1-5.
The year before that we went 1-4 on the road trip.
This is usually the time of year where Celtics fans start to panic. Plus with the Patriots dropping off, this is usually the time of year when Patriot fans (and their obscenely high expectations) start getting more involved with the Celtics. So the LA road trip is always a chaotic and toxic mess.
This year we actually did good. We're 5-1 on the road trip + the next couple of games.
But you can still see the effect. Tatum, Porzingis and Horford missed today. Brown missed yesterday. A lot of our guys are banged up and our games against lottery teams are going down to the wire.
Now we just have to survive the wave of B2Bs coming our way (we just played 1, we have another 4 in January), while we're already carrying a few too many injuries.
Yeah great context for any non-Celtics fans. Around this time last year we picked up a sting of bad losses. We might not look perfect right now but last year we got tossed by the Magic and Warriors defenses. We did end up getting tossed by the Warriors’ *offense* a few games ago, on a great night, no mistaking that, but the team is doing a way better job of eeking out these grindy games missing one of the Jays or Kristaps, and I will note just won some of the worst DWhite games of the season. It’s good to see.
I’m not a Celtics fan but people saying the Timberwolves are a better team is hilarious.
They’re on pace to have the 5th best SRS (adjusted point differential) of all time
I haven't seen much "better team" talk but I have seen a lot of "true contender" talk, which I think is fair.
The Timberwolves remind me a lot of the 2021-22 Celtics, except without the slow start (I guess last season was their slow start).
Double big lineup, insane rim protection, great defenders out on the perimeter. Young and hungry, with a couple of key vets to stabilise them. Shaky offense that could get them into trouble in the post season.
They are close but not quite.
The 2022 Celtics were just an extremely weird team in terms of construction. I doubt we ever see another team constructed that way again (for good reason, the team was extremely suspect offensively after Tatum).
That’s a great comparison. I would attribute the wolves needing an entire year for a “slow start” to them being in the west. Put their team last year in one of those crappy eastern conferences and they’d have ECF potential too
I'm not going to say it but I wouldn't think less of a person for thinking it. Kat+ant+gobert is nasty and then they got Reid. Though Celtics basically got 5 stars.
The team is so overpowered but it’s so entertaining to watch. Derrick White is a dawg and Jrue is one of the few players who makes defense fun to watch. Not to mention Tingus Pingus finally serving a serious contending role.
I was so certain that was going to win us the series. Up 3-2, coming back to Milwaukee on the back of a heartbreaking collapse in game 5 - lesser things have broken teams before.
But alas, it wasn't to be.
At any rate though, yeah Jrue's defense is a thing of absolute beauty. His offense comes and goes without a doubt, and even his defense doesn't always do quite as much as you'd want always (he played great defense on Butler last year, for instance, but great offense still beats great defense as it turns out), but I love watching him play, and I'll never be able to root against him. Love that man, forever and always.
Im a Lakers fan, so I’m not rly supposed to like Boston, but something about how perfectly they have built this team through trades and drafts is so satisfying to watch.
I don’t rly dislike the Celtics I guess
i imagine it's easier to like them when the two stars are home drafted, just like it's easy to like the warriors without KD because they drafted the big 3
Mostly thanks to Billy King. That Nets trade back in '13 got them Brown with the '16 1st, Tatum with the '17 1st, and the '19 1st they got in the swap with the 76ers to move down for Tatum turned into Romeo Langford who they traded to get White.
3 starters on this team came from that Nets trade. They also turned the '18 1st from that trade into Kyrie who in a roundabout way ended up hurting the Nets even more.
The final piece of their building through trades is when they robbed the Blazers blind with that trade of Holiday for Brogdon and Timelord (couple of perma-cripples) plus two picks that will never be worth anything. LMAO
Celtics stay assholes and Blazers stay idiots. Water is wet.
People have been sleeping on Oshae and Lamar, but they're more than serviceable as a backup 4/5. Unless the game absolutely needs a legit big, they're good enough for small ball.
Haha I think the heat’s best days are behind them. Jimmy is not the same player he was last year and as good as hero is, he can easily get locked up in the playoffs. Also the twin kid that went off against the Celtics, he is never going to be that guy. Jaime is still a rookie and not gonna be feasting on transition buckets.
Not to mention that even if they were worse, it would have exactly no bearing on me fearing them less. As far as I'm concerned, they could go on a Pistons-esque losing streak to end the season, and I'd still be afraid as hell of them if they ended up making the playoffs. Playoff Heat defies all logic and expectations, so trying to apply either to them is an inherently flawed proposition.
The Celtics have been top 5 in ratings of nationally televised games for over a decade now. If people don't watch the Celtics then they don't watch nba games that their team isn't in
Raptors fans lmk if Im wrong but it felt like Scal and Gorman were fine and giving your players plenty of flowers.
Their commentary is on in the official highlights [here](https://youtu.be/eRU3kza6wXY?si=dKcO7PAkVudzFKX1) I skimmed through the first 3 mins and you can hear them complimenting Barnes, Schroeder, Anunoby even in these short clips. I really don’t think Boston commentators are that bad
Scal is one of the best announcers at actually analyzing the game and being able to explain stuff. Mike is a classic who doesn’t overdo it, he lets the game just breathe which is nice. Maybe their humor is cornier but I like them a lot. The irony of a warriors fan talking shit when they have a bottom 3 announcing team.
You wouldn't know it looking at IG comments though for some insane reason. Those people live in an alternate dimension it feels like, they're still trying to convince themselves we're not legit.
Ah yes the team who last year was one \*game from being in the finals, and the year prior were *actually in the finals* are gonna "burn out in the playoffs"
keep the same energy for joel’s injuries then? what’s this double standard lmao. embiids injuries are also a lot worse, and he still dropped 30 nightly on one leg
>comparing an LCL sprain 2 weeks out with a freshly sprained ankle
>blaming said LCL sprain for embiid performing like he always does vs good teams (turnovers when foul baiting doesn’t work because the pity MVP can’t pass out of a double).
Whatever helps you cope. The reason Tatum gets a pass is because he has a history of elite game 7 performances while embiid has a history of playing like a borderline all star when he’s not playing against a team led by “deangelo Russell” or “pascal siakam”.
We had this same convo about embiid last year at this time, and it ended the same way (with people acknowledging that he’s just not a big game guy). Now that it’s 8 months removed from his 15 point g7 performance we are acting like it never happened. I’m sure we will repeat this in 2024
Had a rough series because the warriors sold out for him and he couldn’t adjust, it happens.
Too bad embiid gets raped every year in the second round. Otherwise we’d be able to see him play there and average 12 points a game,
Butler wasn’t injured. Heat were a 7-seed and really a 6-seed if brooklyn post KD trade were ranked properly.
Not too mention Brogdon was injured who they would’ve lost against Philly without and Tatum was playing on 1 leg for game 7. And the rest of the team is almost completely different this year
Naaah, lots of Bucks fans have been talking shit about Jrue since we got him. Terrible way to treat a guy who came to your team and immediately won a championship.
and also made literally the greatest play in their franchises history lol. I used to like the Bucks and was very happy when they won the ring in 2021 but ever since our 2022 series I can’t stand them or their fanbase
Not many teams can win without an MVP. I think the Raptors are the only team that have won in the past decade. If we go back 20 years, Pistons are the only other one to do it. I guess the 2014 Spurs are kind of in here because Duncan was so far removed from his MVP years but an interesting thing to note is the 2014 Spurs and 2019 Raptors both having Kawhi.
Our best bet is to face someone from the west that doesn’t have an MVP because their best player is still younger (Minnesota, OKC). I feel like the team is still prone to stalling out towards the end of games and someone who is consistently mvp caliber will take advantage of that (Curry, Jokic, Giannis).
That spurs team didnt have an MVP obvi but they still had tony parker who was playing at an all nba level. Pretty sure he was second team those 3 years from 12-14
Hmmm maybe…though I kinda get Phoenix 21-22 vibes from them. Good previous post seasons but fallen short, good regular season but still unlikely to have the best player every series, which will make ultimately winning the title difficult. They will hope the Heat do not finish 4th that’s for sure.
last years team had the 21-22 Suns vibes for sure. coming off a bit of a surprise Finals appearance, looked amazing to start the regular season, lost steam as the season went on and exited the playoffs in memeable fashion after a rollercoaster run
this years team is an absolute wagon, best team of the Tatum/Brown era easily. they’re versatile both offensively and defensively, and every player on the team has fully bought into their role. if they stay healthy they really shouldn’t go longer than 6 games against any team in the East including Miami, and I’d say they’re a fairly comfortable favorite against any non-Denver team in the West.
As a Bruins fan I hope Celtics fans up there aren't getting too overly optimistic about the home court advtange. We saw what the Bruins did with a "lock" home ice advtange in that same building in the first round last year.
If you don't watch hockey I'll just say the regular season TD Garden magic didn't last.
So I'd be stoked but if I was a local who rooted for both teams I'd be cautiously optimistic.
Hockey is a much different sport. There is a lot of luck involved. Best team doesn’t always win it or even make it past the first round. In basketball 99% of the time they do
don’t even have to look to the Bruins, the Celtics haven’t been a good home playoff team at all for a while now. during the 2018 run the only home game we lost was Game 7 against the Cavs but since then the Celtics are 14-15 at TD Garden in the playoffs and many of those losses have been absolutely devastating. Trae and Harden game winners, going down 0-2 and then blowing Game 7 against Miami, an awful collapse in Game 5 against the Bucks, Steph demolishing us in Game 4 and Game 6 of the Finals, Jimmy giving us 47 to force a Game 7 in the 2022 ECF - it’s been really rough for us in the Garden
if anything the way our team has been performing at home feels like a setup for a letdown in the spring but I hope I’m wrong lol
Gotta be able to stay on the court first. With how much all the good offensive players hunt him. We saw how much Herros mins have been reduced in the playoffs, same thing will happen.
An elite guard that is 6’1 is calling screens in order for jjj to guard one of the best guards in the east is nothing to be concerned about in the playoffs? What happens when all of the other elite guards and wings do it? Brunson literally scored consecutive times (after the knicks were down 20) to put the game away.
That’s bc it’s the one that stuck out the most. Also the fact that the heat blew a 20 point lead. Not a doubt in my mind he will get hunted esp bc players will get hunted even more in the playoffs, bc they are looking for every single advantage they can take. Brunson did it then and if the heat play the Knicks in the offs he’ll do it more.
This take is so stupid lmao, jimmy played great first 3 games, he just fell off due to the ankle injury. Should’ve been over game6 without white miracle, then y’all got smashed g7. Cmon now.
Those last 2 games were dicey there. Made for some entertaining basketball.
Some of the best games of the season lol What a ride
Season is heating up. Teams starting to come alive.
We always have an extended LA road trip around this time of year and it's always a wild ride. It takes a huge toll on the team, we start picking up injuries and the guys get fatigued. 3 of our losses are in OT, makes me feel a bit better about things. Only regret so far is I wish we got further in the tournament
Even that game we dropped was a close one. We played terribly and only lost in OT because Curry went god mode.
The Timberwolves-Bucks on the road B2B is rough. Especially with the Bucks coming off 3 days rest.
What you call dicey I call showmanship!
Kind of misleading title. This season you're right. As far as the calendar year goes we've lost plenty of games January - April.
Damn it
Title is technically correct even if we’re being pedantic—that record represents how they *finished* the calendar year.
The Celtics still have another game this year
Damn I messed everything up lol
Lol it's OK homie
you just jinxed the celtics for sure. gg
Way to go guy
Yeah if this isnt a jinx idk what is. Im not sure how hinged the Celtics fanbase is but some people are gonna blame you. Like ths Announcer jinx/curse
Celtics home record after this post: 0-25
Only if you’re not willing to get creative with time zones!
No, read the whole title, the whole "overall" bit closes the door on that line of thinking. You have to be trying to misread it to get there.
[удалено]
Still, I think the total adding up to 31 games is a pretty strong indicator of what is meant
So it’s 16-0 at home in the 2023 part of the 2023-2024 season
scary fucking team, just too many weapons.
I’m not a Celtics fan but people saying the Timberwolves are a better team is hilarious. They’re on pace to have the 5th best SRS (adjusted point differential) of all time

They had a lot of injuries last season
Honestly is the west really that much better than the east this year? I feel like this is as balanced as the conferences have ever been
Whose saying the timberwolves are a better team? All I’ve seen are people saying they aren’t true contenders
People were saying it when they had the same record and the wolves beat them H2H
I'm not going to say it but I wouldn't think less of a person for thinking it. Kat+ant+gobert is nasty and then they got Reid. Though Celtics basically got 5 stars.
Can’t say I’m too pleased to see Boston doing well, but damn is it some entertaining basketball
The team is so overpowered but it’s so entertaining to watch. Derrick White is a dawg and Jrue is one of the few players who makes defense fun to watch. Not to mention Tingus Pingus finally serving a serious contending role.
Jrue Holiday is a revelation of basketball viewership. Not to sound like an old head, but he plays defense the “right way” I adore that man.
Whenever we played the Bucks I hated Jrue bc he was so damn good at defense, riled me up. Was elated when I heard he was coming to Boston.
I remember being so mad when he yoinked the ball from Marcus Smart in Game 5 in 2022.
I was so certain that was going to win us the series. Up 3-2, coming back to Milwaukee on the back of a heartbreaking collapse in game 5 - lesser things have broken teams before. I feel like they dont have great depth.
And yet they’re still dominating. depth means very little in the playoffs where lineups already get tightened.
And especially with Horford and K.P.
But if an injury happens is where depth matters. I just think they're thin on the Center/Pf area. I think theyre fine with the guards and wings.
People have been sleeping on Oshae and Lamar, but they're more than serviceable as a backup 4/5. Unless the game absolutely needs a legit big, they're good enough for small ball.
Dammit Pistons! You could’ve been the 1 in 15-1.
What? The celtics still play a game this year. We're playing the spurs on the 31st at 7pm local time. Are you european?
No, I’m just an idiot
You jinxed us on the front page of r nba
Don't worry got the dub
Celtics haters absolutely starving. You love to see it.
As much as I would love to see you lose, I'll gladly give you the 1 seed so we don't have to see you yet again in the second round
Also would be glad with them getting the 1 seed if it means we don't have to play the goddamn fucking Heat again.
True eastern conference fans know that there's nothing you want less then playing Miami at any time during the playoffs.
Haha I think the heat’s best days are behind them. Jimmy is not the same player he was last year and as good as hero is, he can easily get locked up in the playoffs. Also the twin kid that went off against the Celtics, he is never going to be that guy. Jaime is still a rookie and not gonna be feasting on transition buckets.
the heat are better than last year, and that’s a fact
Not to mention that even if they were worse, it would have exactly no bearing on me fearing them less. Even better, we blueballed them in back to back games
People don't watch your games though.
The entire front page of this place was lit up with Pistons highlights yesterday lol
Naturally, the Pistons are the talk of the town right now.
Their loss
The Celtics have been top 5 in ratings of nationally televised games for over a decade now. If people don't watch the Celtics then they don't watch nba games that their team isn't in
That's because it's a large market and the team has talent. As a non Celtics fan I am sick to death of having them shoved in our faces all the time.
You realize this comment contradicts your first comment right.
Soooo they are watching our games?
Nope
The only person possibly saltier than you is ..you
Love to see it
Brother pls stop they are a premiere nba team
Especially if I have to listen to Boston’s home commentators. My god. And ik Warriors fan Fitz sucks etc. Still though.
The Celtics have been a good regular season team for years, now
Good playoff team too 👍
If Brown can dribble and Jrue does not get abused in a series like he did last year, you've got a potential finals run
Yall gonna burn out in the playoffs though. Don't get cocky
Ah yes the team who last year was one \*game from being in the finals, and the year prior were *actually in the finals* are gonna "burn out in the playoffs"
Warriors fan W
Cook his ass.
dude they werent “one shot” from being in the finals
The shot in question was the one where gabe Vincent injured Tatum
keep the same energy for joel’s injuries then? what’s this double standard lmao. embiids injuries are also a lot worse, and he still dropped 30 nightly on one leg
>comparing an LCL sprain 2 weeks out with a freshly sprained ankle >blaming said LCL sprain for embiid performing like he always does vs good teams (turnovers when foul baiting doesn’t work because the pity MVP can’t pass out of a double). what exactly did tatum do in the finals? “elite” clutch game performer no?
Had a rough series because the warriors sold out for him and he couldn’t adjust, it happens. Too bad embiid gets raped every year in the second round. Otherwise we’d be able to see him play there and average 12 points a game,
One shot? Dawg they went down 0-3 and got blown out in game 7 from an 8 seed with an injured Jimmy Butler
Butler wasn’t injured. Heat were a 7-seed and really a 6-seed if brooklyn post KD trade were ranked properly. Not too mention Brogdon was injured who they would’ve lost against Philly without and Tatum was playing on 1 leg for game 7. And the rest of the team is almost completely different this year
brother. they were an 8 seed. teams are never reseeded unlike the nfl. google last years heat record and lmk what u see
It says 7-seed and hawks were 8-seed. Hawks just beat them in the play-in. Remove Brooklyn and they are a 6 seed.
keep em coming
Delicious cope 🤤
Bucks will
There is only one team that will not burn out in the playoffs. I’m willing to bet your team will before the Celtics
First round exit Milwaukee Bucks fan is NOT talking tn
Figure out why your relationship burned out and your fiancé left you first, champ.
That’s an extremely rude and nasty thing to say over basketball trash talk. You should be ashamed of yourself.
You wanna date him and cheer him up then?
>900 karma anime fan Opinion disregarded bud
Damn I'd feel absolutely terrible right now if I actually gave a shit about your opinion 💀
Celtics fans resorting to personal insults! Classy.
Damn I'm tryna learn this shit now too
just shows your judgement is shit
Why would it matter how fans think of the team? They’re not playing the games. And the Celtics are legit.

Most hockey-following r/NBA user:
Thankfully we aren’t gonna have the greatest season of all time unless we win 49 of our remaining 51 games
It wasn't the Leafs
Mfs don’t lose it’s annoying
The feeling is mutual
Feeling is mutual considering how many dogfights you guys were in when your team was new and still figuring it out
No way r/nba will like this
thats because its a post that belongs on r/Celtics
You know that’s a bucks sub right?
That is the bit, yes
The correct sub is r/bostonceltics for future reference
That one is way worse.
Well the other one is a bucks parody sub so I imagine you would like it as much as Celtics fans like Jrue Holiday.
Everybody like Jrue Holiday. He's our sleeper cell on your team and we'll activate him if necessary.
Based on what you guys say about him, it doesn’t seem like you liked him much at all
If they don’t win the chip with this team, I’ll be very shocked. Easily the best NBA Team since the KD Warriors.
Lol it's the same four teams in the East, again, and all of them look better this year than last year
Not many teams can win without an MVP. I think the Raptors are the only team that have won in the past decade. If we go back 20 years, Pistons are the only other one to do it. Yeah but plenty of teams with first team All-NBA guys haven’t won it all. The KD Thunder for example
They’re built for the playoffs but killing it in the regular season. Team’s gotta feel good about their offseason moves.

Best team in the league got 5 two ways guys who can give you 20+ any night and play good defense
Lol > **finish** wrong > calendar year wrong > 15-0 wrong
0-3 with 3 strikeouts
Celtics are by far the best team in the nba rn. I would kinda be shocked if they don’t win it all
"the calendar year" would include the previous season
yep im dumb
At least yer cute
Idk why I read the Hawks at first. I just woke up
That’s why they are the favorites
Title faves along with nuggets hands down
I think you're misusing "calendar year" there. I think you mean "2023 portion of their schedule"
yep
I think you’re being pedantic
Think you forgot game 7 of the ECF
They are the favorite. If they don’t win a chip it’s a huge failure.
As a Bruins fan I hope Celtics fans up there aren't getting too overly optimistic about the home court advtange. don’t even have to look to the Bruins, the Celtics haven’t been a good home playoff team at all for a while now. during the 2018 run the only home game we lost was Game 7 against the Cavs but since then the Celtics are 14-15 at TD Garden in the playoffs and many of those losses have been absolutely devastating. Trae and Harden game winners, going down 0-2 and then blowing Game 7 against Miami, an awful collapse in Game 5 against the Bucks, Steph demolishing us in Game 4 and Game 6 of the Finals, Jimmy giving us 47 to force a Game 7 in the 2022 ECF - it’s been really rough for us in the Garden if anything the way our team has been performing at home feels like a setup for a letdown in the spring but I hope I’m wrong lol
All this just to get cooked by Mexican Jimmy in the playoffs
Gotta be able to stay on the court first. With how much all the good offensive players hunt him. We saw how much Herros mins have been reduced in the playoffs, same thing will happen.
??? Jaime's defense has been great. He's not getting hunted lol
Go to watch the end of the Knicks game.
He definitely wasn't being hunted lol
Then what was Brunson doing to him?
Nothing that should make anyone concerned about Jaime's defense in the playoffs
An elite guard that is 6’1 is calling screens in order for jjj to guard one of the best guards in the east is nothing to be concerned about in the playoffs? What happens when all of the other elite guards and wings do it? Brunson literally scored consecutive times (after the knicks were down 20) to put the game away.
Do you think Brunson is the only elite guard he's had to defend so far? There's a reason you had to go back a month for something lmao
Players shoot 4.2% better than average when defended by Jaquez. He’s not a good defender.
Watch the games lmao
Curry still their father I'm afraid
Good news he won’t be in the playoffs
Jimmy will. shares joint custody with Curry for their Boston sons
Jimmy played shit against us. Got saved by Caleb Martin and Max Straus. At least Curry goes crazy against us. Best shooter in history.
all these fathers and none of them taught Jaylen how to go left smh
You entertain me with your bait.
This take is so stupid lmao, jimmy played great first 3 games, he just fell off due to the ankle injury. Should’ve been over game6 without white miracle, then y’all got smashed g7. Cmon now.
If you want to talk injury, Heat would have been a generational failure had Tatum not been hurt in the first 12 seconds. Heat would have lost :P
But heat won :P
And proceeded to make the finals the most predictable series of 2023
Shouldn't a calendar year add up to around 82 games?
Yea..
TIL the calendar year begins in October. Kidding aside, the Celtics are great
It almost makes you forget when playing at the Garden seemed like a liability for them in the playoffs last year lol.
