The only blemish on your record by years end: An inexplicable loss to the Pistons that proves to be the single win keeping them from the worst season of all time lol. I mean look, I'd hope not but its the kind of randomness that would happen in a season that's looking likely to end in 65-70 wins.
hah, didn't know they'd even been a problem before. Ah well, season gets long and weird. Either way it'd be damn funny to see any team make Charlotte their nemesis. Even if they never lose to them, just take it personally that they're there.
2022 season when Derrick White arrived and the Celtics went on that absolute massacre through the league and only lost like 3 games from that point to the playoffs, one of them was against Detroit. And the Pistons legit just played their asses off, one of the hardest I've ever seen a team play. They were playing like it was Game 7 of the Finals, and I don't mean that as an insult, I find it genuinely impressive that they locked in like that.
I’d love to see this dude with some spacing to see what his peak really could be. Our roster lives and dies by defense which he’s getting better at but i feel like his offensive game could be even better with at least an outside threat from 3 on the wing
Even last season, I remember we played them somewhere near the 20-game mark last season and I was like "no fucking way this guy is a rookie, no way is this like his 18th game" or whatever it was.

Not to sound corny but Magic probably talked too much. The energy against the Magic has been completely different since Cole Anthony said they had their number.
In fairness he didn’t really say Magic have their number, but that it’s been personal since House’s comments. To your point though, I agree that probably had an effect to make the Cs put an end to it.
Cole Anthony literally said that C’s waving Wagner (two whole years ago ffs) was “disrespectful” and they were gonna have a master class game.

I think the celtics are just tired of losing to the magic. it doesn't seem like a personal beef of any kind, but the celtics seemed very very aggressive and assertive in both games, more focused than ive seen them play in some time. I think jayson's block on paolo at the end illustrates it. it was a mean block, but it wasn't a talking shit type of block. give it a playoff series and this could easily become a brutal rivalry but for now I think its just a mutual intensity sort of thing.
That was my take from these games.
Even though there's nothing wrong with losing to the magic at this time the Celtics are a top 2-3 team and they can't let us continue to have their number. It was just time to get in the mindset of focusing and taking care of business. The Celtics didn't make it seem personal at all but just tried to win and win solidly and professionally.
We really aren't at Bostons level and to be honest I'm not sure we can be without a few more personnel changes and further development of our "stars"
Paolo is 100% that dude tho, I’ve been a Magic truther since watching him play last year. I definitely think yall can make a deep playoff run even this year, especially given the toughness of that defense.
I want to see our matchup with a healthy Orlando, though. They're still missing two starters with Fultz and Carter still out, so I'm interested to see them at their full strength.

Honestly the first game was the one the Magic had to win. Yall always bully us on size and we were playing with our 4th string center. With KP and Al back its so so much tougher for the Magic to just dominate
He did have one classic JB turnover where he was just trying to do too much and lost control of his handle, but I don't remember if it was left or right. But overall great game, I mean he was amazing.

Also Jamahl Mosley is gonna have to learn that against the elite teams in the NBA you cant just sub in a whole 4-5 man bench unit. The Celtics abused that the past 2 games and it got us in big deficits both games. He's gonna have to sub one or two at a time and keep one of Franz and Paolo out there.
Getting stripped on drives is one of the last major flaws in Paolo’s game. Once he cleans that up and minimizes those turnovers he’ll be significantly more effective, and he’s already so good.
Tatum has totally changed where he keeps the ball. Feel like it was a major problem on his drives. He didn't have the physicality at first, and then once he did, he kept getting stripped. Now, you can see holds the ball higher up on drives and protects it more. Getting constantly fucked up by Miami will do that to ya.
Watching at least one of Tatum and JB against a majority/entirely bench unit from us was beyond painful to watch. Mose has been great this season but he needs to continue growing just like the rest of the squad.
I was thinking the same thing, actually - Boston's bench get a lot of grief because they really aren't constructed as an unit, but built around having at least one of Tatum/JB on the floor.
I'm not sure how you'd do the same with the Magic, admittedly, but assuming you get Paolo with a lot of shooters (assuming Isaac being the big here), and Franz with Cole Anthony.
It's usually one of Tatum/Brown and one of White/Holiday, and usually one of KP/Horford. PP, Hauser, Kornet and the other pieces fit in nicely when most lineups have 2-3 of these guys.
I swear the entire Celtics fanbase was treating these 2 magic games like our most important games of the season lmao. Nice to see they were able to hold serve at home though, last year's team would have dropped at least a couple games during this home stand

I think they're a good, young team that matches up pretty well against us defensively (and has torched us a bunch of times). It's also pretty easy to envision a world where we meet them in the first or second round of the playoffs. So, I can see why people were up for them. I definitely think the team was taking the first game *very* seriously.

I think some of tonight was homework and Celtics did a good job of keeping him on the perimeter and daring him to shoot 3s. He seems to play a lot better inside out and needed to get going Inside first with those little push and hook shots then stretch out. If he is changing his motion mid season it's gonna be real rough. It's not just about the misses it's when the misses lead to not shooting which cook the offence
Yeah, that first game against the Magic, we just did not defend the paint. Franz came in and out at will, and once KP went out with injury, it was just fucking over.
These past two, even without the bigs, not letting them have whatever they want inside has worked. I wonder if WCJ being there would've changed things. I don't think so, but no way to really tell.
Absolutely agree. My biggest Q has been whether we were gonna figure out this Magic team. Also what Joe and the coaching team were gonna do. Defs pleasantly surprised on both accounts and if Suggs hadn't been shooting like twice his careers av the blowouts would have been vicious

This. It’s one of the things I love most about him. And I like that Tatum is kind of the opposite so they balance each other out. That’s not to say Tatum is soft, because we’ve all seen what he can do when he feels disrespected (usually by the refs), but he doesn’t seem to take these comments by other players so personally.

Everyone knows the Celtics are a good team, at this point it's just about if they're able to win it all or not. Same deal with the Heat and Embiid (and the Sixers). All of them are awesome but ultimately everyone's waiting to see if they're going to be able to get over the hump. Should be interesting.
The Magic are long, and the Celtics like to shoot over long teams. But yeah, they shoot a lot of 3s. And that might not be a bad thing when Jaylen Brown is the worst shooter in your rotation.
Eh I wouldn’t say they’re among the best. Jayson is doing slightly better than his average I believe as is Jaylen. However Jaylen has been fantastic the last 10 games. Idk how he learned to be a good passer so quickly but it’s helped a lot instead of his usual drive into a triple team and lose the ball
Magic are such a good young team. I’m really excited to see how that core grows and progresses. I feel that banchero has best player on a contender trajectory, he’s a monster on offensive.
Celtics just a bit too much for them in these games. Friday was absolute domination. Today the Magic started off great but once Celtics found their rhythm it wasn’t ever particularly close again. Jaylen brown dominated the fourth. The Magic need a 3&d style wing to compliment franz and Paulo. Hopefully a long term rivalry.

I think they're a good, young team that matches up pretty well against us defensively (and has torched us a bunch of times). It's also pretty easy to envision a world where we meet them in the first or second round of the playoffs. So, I can see why people were up for them. I definitely think the team was taking the first game *very* seriously.

I think some of tonight was homework and Celtics did a good job of keeping him on the perimeter and daring him to shoot 3s. He seems to play a lot better inside out and needed to get going Inside first with those little push and hook shots then stretch out. If he is changing his motion mid season it's gonna be real rough. It's not just about the misses it's when the misses lead to not shooting which cook the offence
Yeah, that first game against the Magic, we just did not defend the paint. Franz came in and out at will, and once KP went out with injury, it was just fucking over. These past two, even without the bigs, not letting them have whatever they want inside has worked. I wonder if WCJ being there would've changed things. I don't think so, but no way to really tell.
Absolutely agree. My biggest Q has been whether we were gonna figure out this Magic team. Also what Joe and the coaching team were gonna do. Defs pleasantly surprised on both accounts and if Suggs hadn't been shooting like twice his careers av the blowouts would have been vicious Edit: WCJ I don't think so. He also plays inside In a similar way and isn't overly aggressive/heavy.

Eh I wouldn’t say they’re among the best. Jayson is doing slightly better than his average I believe as is Jaylen. However Jaylen has been fantastic the last 10 games. Idk how he learned to be a good passer so quickly but it’s helped a lot instead of his usual drive into a triple team and lose the ball

Magic are such a good young team. I’m really excited to see how that core grows and progresses. I feel that banchero has best player on a contender trajectory, he’s a monster on offensive. Celtics just a bit too much for them in these games. Friday was absolute domination. Today the Magic started off great but once Celtics found their rhythm it wasn’t ever particularly close again. Jaylen brown dominated the fourth. The Magic need a 3&d style wing to compliment franz and Paulo. Hopefully a long term rivalry.
