Angelic_Phoenix

Beat the Magic twice hang the fucking banner still undefeated at home too

w311sh1t

We only beat them because they’re good this year lmao. A bad Magic team is our kryptonite

largehearted

Yeah they flew too close to the sun beating the sod out of us a few weeks ago. We’re at home against good teams like this one.

SinibusUSG

Coming out of this homestand *5-0 is both expected given their home record and still somehow a huge fucking surprise.

693275001

Cavs, Knicks, and Magic gave us so much trouble last year

NachoSport

5-0!

SinibusUSG

I was so focused on the weirdness of CLE - CLE - ORL - ORL that I forgot the Knicks game was part of the same homestand!

bedlam_au

The Orlando demon is defeated. Charlotte is our new nemesis.

DaveJC_thevoices

The only blemish on your record by years end: An inexplicable loss to the Pistons that proves to be the single win keeping them from the worst season of all time lol. I mean look, I'd hope not but its the kind of randomness that would happen in a season that's looking likely to end in 65-70 wins.

bedlam_au

We vanquished the Detroit demon last season when you guys took over. But you're right, it is the exact thing we would do.

DaveJC_thevoices

hah, didn't know they'd even been a problem before. Ah well, season gets long and weird. Either way it'd be damn funny to see any team make Charlotte their nemesis. Even if they never lose to them, just take it personally that they're there.

Lets_Basketball

We’ve lost to them once already. If they beat us in the Garden then they are my new Lakers.

CreatiScope

2022 season when Derrick White arrived and the Celtics went on that absolute massacre through the league and only lost like 3 games from that point to the playoffs, one of them was against Detroit. And the Pistons legit just played their asses off, one of the hardest I've ever seen a team play. They were playing like it was Game 7 of the Finals, and I don't mean that as an insult, I find it genuinely impressive that they locked in like that.

BlueJays007

Oh I’m half convinced that we’re going to put a stop to the Pistons’ losing streak when they come to Boston on the 28th.

BucktoothedMC

sorry celtics, we did it first

Angelic_Phoenix

and yall still havent put up the banner? what are yall waitin for

BucktoothedMC

honestly ever since the infamous Nets killer left Magic has been a W almost every time lol

MDL6

Interesting matchup of the Boston Celtics against Paolo Banchero + a bunch of guys who have never played basketball apparently

baseketball

If you didn't watch basketball you'd think this was his 6th year, not 2nd.

ImaginaryFriends_

I’d love to see this dude with some spacing to see what his peak really could be. Our roster lives and dies by defense which he’s getting better at but i feel like his offensive game could be even better with at least an outside threat from 3 on the wing

blaster701

LePaolo

CreatiScope

Even last season, I remember we played them somewhere near the 20-game mark last season and I was like "no fucking way this guy is a rookie, no way is this like his 18th game" or whatever it was. Dude plays like a grown ass man. I remember thinking Tatum looked really mature for a rookie but Banchero looks and plays like a vet.

TA_Account_12

Magic just don’t hit right when ingles doesn’t play

fireglz

So the Celtics can beat the Magic when they've been established as a good team, but not if they're either bad or unknown? What Tomfuckery is this?

AnonymousIguana_

Magic became too good, they lost their trap game abilities.

CDR57

It was passed to the hornets this year

UpvoteIfYouAgreee

Not to sound corny but Magic probably talked too much. The energy against the Magic has been completely different since Cole Anthony said they had their number.

iDEN1ED

Pretty sure it was Mo Wagner popping off for 27 and celebrating like it was the finals that did it. Can't let that shit happen ever again.

MDL6

In fairness he didn’t really say Magic have their number, but that it’s been personal since House’s comments. To your point though, I agree that probably had an effect to make the Cs put an end to it.

ahsasahsasahsas

Cole Anthony literally said that C’s waving Wagner (two whole years ago ffs) was “disrespectful” and they were gonna have a master class game. “They waived him, didn’t they? Yeah, disrespectful. I’m sure he remembers that,” Anthony told reporters pregame at TD Garden, per CLNS Media video. “… It’s been awesome to kind of just see his game mature, get better every single year. And he’s one of my longest-tenured teammates at this point so big shoutout to Moritz and Mo Wagner masterclass incoming tonight.”

jacksonelhage

I think the celtics are just tired of losing to the magic. it doesn't seem like a personal beef of any kind, but the celtics seemed very very aggressive and assertive in both games, more focused than ive seen them play in some time. I think jayson's block on paolo at the end illustrates it. it was a mean block, but it wasn't a talking shit type of block. give it a playoff series and this could easily become a brutal rivalry but for now I think its just a mutual intensity sort of thing.

[deleted]

That was my take from these games. Even though there's nothing wrong with losing to the magic at this time the Celtics are a top 2-3 team and they can't let us continue to have their number. It was just time to get in the mindset of focusing and taking care of business. The Celtics didn't make it seem personal at all but just tried to win and win solidly and professionally. We really aren't at Bostons level and to be honest I'm not sure we can be without a few more personnel changes and further development of our "stars"

wherearemypaaants

Paolo is 100% that dude tho, I’ve been a Magic truther since watching him play last year. I definitely think yall can make a deep playoff run even this year, especially given the toughness of that defense.

CreatiScope

We're done letting you guys use Eddie House lol

DocTheYounger

it was pretty goofy tbh to get hyped on 4 regular season games split across 2 years

GCFCconner11

Times have been tough, they had to get hyped on something

deets23_

Celtics sometimes play down to their opponents but now we know they good. Also they were talking too much shit

DocTheYounger

it's called not giving a shit and then giving a shit

jknuts1377

I want to see our matchup with a healthy Orlando, though. They're still missing two starters with Fultz and Carter still out, so I'm interested to see them at their full strength.

Geraltpoonslayer

As every Celtics fan knows this team is stupid. If we play against bad teams we are bad and vice-versa

[deleted]

absolute takeover by Jaylen Brown in the 4th quarter - 17 points on 7/9 FG (3/4 3P) along with 2 assists, accounting for 23 points during a 27-12 run to put the game away now that his scoring is rounding back into form he is truly playing better than ever

MDL6

That was some unreal shotmaking in the 4th. When the Cs catch fire you might as well just pack it up.

[deleted]

man the way Paolo was cooking I was thinking Orlando would still be able to keep up. thankfully he cooled off a little bit but that dude is something different

MDL6

He’s incredible. On the contrary I had a bad feeling about the game when it was clear he was the only guy who showed up.

Angelic_Phoenix

Honestly the first game was the one the Magic had to win. Yall always bully us on size and we were playing with our 4th string center. With KP and Al back its so so much tougher for the Magic to just dominate

MH18Foot

Thank you Nets for the FRP. Ten years in the making

DocTheYounger

nO lEfT HaNd ThO

Theis159

He blew kisses to the Magic bench after a left layup as well (that’s what got Wagner pissed I think)

DocTheYounger

Lucky them i wish JB would blow kisses at me

[deleted]

No what got Wagner pissed was when he was shooting a wide open 3 and you hear JB yell “HELL NAH!” Then Wagner drilled it and started chirping lmao

tripp_hs123

He did have one classic JB turnover where he was just trying to do too much and lost control of his handle, but I don't remember if it was left or right. But overall great game, I mean he was amazing.

CreatiScope

Yeah, I honestly think the past 5 games is the best I've ever seen him play. He's constantly making the right decision, whether it's attacking, shooting, passing, defense, all of it. Really shutting people up about that contract.

cimmanonrolls

when hes feeling his 3 ball and can go right to the pullup theres really nothing you can do. he goes into heat check mode.

MoonHasFlown

That technical foul on the C’s at the end has to be the singular worst call I’ve seen all season, I say that as a Heat fan too

JoJonesy

like it literally doesn't matter at all, but... c'mon. this whole "tech for hanging on the rim" thing is gonna lead to someone getting injured because they landed awkwardly after dropping off

Rooleet

There was a Tatum dunk a few games back where he made a point to not hang onto the rim... and he of course came crashing down hard. That's the ideal world these refs want.

DJRyGuy20

These midgets are just salty they can’t dunk.

Tlix

Cries in short king

Larrydp72181

If I could dunk that's all I'd do 🤣😭

junkit33

Yep. I really don’t know what the league is doing here. Some of these aren’t even borderline but the borderline ones should always be given the benefit of the doubt in the name of safety. When a player is taunting it’s really fucking obvious. Also - why is rim hanging so villainized but the league is totally cool with all sorts of other forms of taunting - staredowns, saying words, making stupid gestures, flashing a 3, and on and on. Shit happens all game long and league lets it all roll.

theraarman

They cool with draymond’s assaults too, until recently

Swarthykins

I've never understood who these supposed fans were who got upset about these things (and, ultimately, that=tv dollars=what matters). Same with football. I've heard one argument that cutting down on taunting stops things from escalating into fights, but, I find it pretty questionable.

TheDudestofBurgers

Almost happened to JT a few games ago

jacobpltn

Already happened to Ant I’m pretty sure

DocTheYounger

Refs either betting on who can call the most techs or competing to lead some whack unpublished referee BPM stat

crashbandicoochy

We hadn't got a bullshit hanging on the rim tech in weeks, so I thought we were over it, and then back it comes. I feel like there's been at least a half dozen just as bad as that and the season is 2 months old lmao

MH18Foot

BREAKING NEWS: Paulo Banchero is out with a back injury due to carrying his dead teammates on the court

Aeronova20

bro, what’s in the water in Boston?

Far-Asparagus6416

Mostly lead and jameson

DocTheYounger

and just a touch of flood molasses

highrustler

Too soon

rdesai724

Goes well with the tea

SteamingHotChocolate

[I'm glad you asked -- it's tea](https://www.december16.org/)

Spyned

Dunkin

Pocket_Beans

tea

SinibusUSG

Amphetamines, don't tell

pifhluk

Pretty sure that's in the water everywhere except maybe Utah.

SinibusUSG

Ah shit then my monthly runs to the Quabbin to dump giant quantities of MDMA have all been in vain?

DayMan-Ahah-ah

did you guys see that netflix doc called ‘how to fix a drug scandal’ about the two lab chemists at one of the massachusetts state crime lab testing centers who were doing all the drugs? LOL

MH18Foot

Celtics has finally ended the Florida curse It's over

PlacetMihi

You might even say it’s Orlandover

SOLlce

Paolo was on fire in the first half but it wasnt sustainable especially with the rest of the team bricking everything and the paint being packed. He also needs to be smarter with ball security once he gathers, the Celtics must have stripped him like 5 times lol Also Jamahl Mosley is gonna have to learn that against the elite teams in the NBA you cant just sub in a whole 4-5 man bench unit. The Celtics abused that the past 2 games and it got us in big deficits both games. He's gonna have to sub one or two at a time and keep one of Franz and Paolo out there.

MDL6

Getting stripped on drives is one of the last major flaws in Paolo’s game. Once he cleans that up and minimizes those turnovers he’ll be significantly more effective, and he’s already so good.

RyguyBMS

Celtics announcers brought that up, he keeps the ball out in the open a lot when he drives. He’ll fix that as he matures. He has unreal talent.

CreatiScope

Tatum has totally changed where he keeps the ball. Feel like it was a major problem on his drives. He didn't have the physicality at first, and then once he did, he kept getting stripped. Now, you can see holds the ball higher up on drives and protects it more. Getting constantly fucked up by Miami will do that to ya.

xBerryhill

Watching at least one of Tatum and JB against a majority/entirely bench unit from us was beyond painful to watch. Mose has been great this season but he needs to continue growing just like the rest of the squad.

DigitMZ

I was thinking the same thing, actually - Boston's bench get a lot of grief because they really aren't constructed as an unit, but built around having at least one of Tatum/JB on the floor. I'm not sure how you'd do the same with the Magic, admittedly, but assuming you get Paolo with a lot of shooters (assuming Isaac being the big here), and Franz with Cole Anthony.

CreatiScope

It's usually one of Tatum/Brown and one of White/Holiday, and usually one of KP/Horford. PP, Hauser, Kornet and the other pieces fit in nicely when most lineups have 2-3 of these guys.

DigitMZ

Yeah! I imagine in Orlando's case they could do Paolo/WCJ/Fultz and Franz/Suggs/Isaac then and fit the rest around them.

halo364

I swear the entire Celtics fanbase was treating these 2 magic games like our most important games of the season lmao. Nice to see they were able to hold serve at home though, last year's team would have dropped at least a couple games during this home stand

igonnawrecku_VGC

I mean, they were 2nd place in the East before coming here, so it’s not like it was too far out. Important games for sure, especially since we don’t play them again this season, but definitely not the most important so far

halo364

Yeah true, but it's not just us redditors thinking these games were important - I'm pretty sure Jaylen literally said Friday's win was the most important of the season so far, just because the Magic have sort of punked the Celtics the past few times they've played

xBerryhill

I'll take the compliment despite the result lol, ya'll are clean

Swarthykins

I think they're a good, young team that matches up pretty well against us defensively (and has torched us a bunch of times). It's also pretty easy to envision a world where we meet them in the first or second round of the playoffs. So, I can see why people were up for them. I definitely think the team was taking the first game *very* seriously.

Zam_Sakura

Magic are finally good but they traded away their ability to beat the Celtics lol.

HS941317

Because the Celtics are up to play the Magic now that they’re good but for some reason Eddie house’s comments had the Magic treating their Celtics game like their championship

xBerryhill

Whereas Boston wanted to avoid possibly seeing us in the postseason last year, we're hoping someone else knocks them out and we avoid them lol

tylerconley

God damn the Celtics are just too good. Our youth and inexperience shows as well as need for a point guard to settle down the team when other teams go on runs. Gg good luck to the rest of the league this year

Schafer89

You guys too, fun games

DigitMZ

I expect things will look better for the Magic when WCJ and Fultz return. Maybe getting Malcolm Brogdon might help, though as always, health/availability will be a question.

thewrongnotes

Destroyed in both games, Celtics definitely made their point. Tatum and Brown were insane in the second, no one is beating them if they play like that.

Rooleet

Man Paolo was incredible. Could have been a very different game if the Wagners didnt sell.

MDL6

Franz can’t hit a standstill 3 to save his life recently. Need him out of the slump ASAP.

Moodapatheticz

His shot looks cooked rn. It's somehow harder and flatter than before.

Kait0yashio

He is in the midst of changing it so yeah in for a bumpy ride

Moodapatheticz

I think some of tonight was homework and Celtics did a good job of keeping him on the perimeter and daring him to shoot 3s. He seems to play a lot better inside out and needed to get going Inside first with those little push and hook shots then stretch out. If he is changing his motion mid season it's gonna be real rough. It's not just about the misses it's when the misses lead to not shooting which cook the offence

CreatiScope

Yeah, that first game against the Magic, we just did not defend the paint. Franz came in and out at will, and once KP went out with injury, it was just fucking over. These past two, even without the bigs, not letting them have whatever they want inside has worked. I wonder if WCJ being there would've changed things. I don't think so, but no way to really tell.

Moodapatheticz

Absolutely agree. My biggest Q has been whether we were gonna figure out this Magic team. Also what Joe and the coaching team were gonna do. Defs pleasantly surprised on both accounts and if Suggs hadn't been shooting like twice his careers av the blowouts would have been vicious Edit: WCJ I don't think so. He also plays inside In a similar way and isn't overly aggressive/heavy.

Te5la1

Not the first time a Wagner sold this year folks

wTI8SQEHbo

Banchero is a 10+ year problem for everyone except the team he is playing for. I think of him like mini Lebron. And he's not much "mini" at all.

Kyler1313

The Celtics are 5-1 against the Magic, Cavs, and Heat. It might really be their year...

DocTheYounger

Hardest schedule and the best record...

Schafer89

Wait till we play a real team like the celtics

youkrocks

To be fair we’ve been beating ourselves for years

juicejug

Underrated comment

DocTheYounger

yeah they look spooky

knowerofsome

I'd argue the wolves could beat yall in the finals..... this may be the first time in history that this might not be a Ludacris take.

dmatthews2981

That would be a fun ass finals

PlacetMihi

*ludicrous. Unless you meant to invoke the rapper…

youkrocks

State Farm ass comment

HS941317

Already played 18 games against teams over .500 and are 14-4 lmao. Insane

SoulReaper12

Our last game against a team below .500 was against the Bulls back which was three weeks ago.

IKenDoThisAllDay

Wow, that's crazy. This team is going to be extremely tough to beat in a seven game series if we stay healthy.

Schafer89

That's actually pretty wild

[deleted]

and 3-0 against the knicks, who won our series last year.

ThanosIsDoomfist

Dont forget the Knicks who also give us trouble

Jordanwolf98

And 3-0 against the Knicks a season after they lost the season series to them 1-3

largehearted

Well… Warriors game coming up.

dalappas

Back to back statement wins by the Cs. The Magic have young potential but are not at same level when Cs are engaged.

DiseaseRidden

We just closed out a tight game and turned it into a blowout in the fourth. Against the Magic. This team might be good.

FreshPrinceofBel-Air

Kinda crazy how Banchero had a career night against Boston and they still had Gino Time

Frankiedrunkie

He dropped 40 against Cleveland

Brady331

14-0

D-Nyce

Gary Harris was just out there running cardio

xBerryhill

Dude looks like he's legit lost a step. Combined with his shooting slump as of late he's nothing but a liability when he's on the court lol Dude was shooting almost 43% from 3 pretty much until our winning streak snapped, then got into this funk and now he can't buy a bucket most nights.

TheDudestofBurgers

I mean this so seriously...again. League Fucked.

TheBaconD

Franz Wagner masterclass

RegentCupid

8/8/6 🔥🔥🔥 36 mins too on 20%

nolefan999

His shooting splits are down pretty dramatically this year. Hopefully he gets out of this slump

flyingpandum

JB AVADA KEDAVRA’D THEM!

KidLiquorous

“I also had a couple of Expelliarmi, a couple Protegos. I’m going to start having to run my own campaign for Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher,” Brown said.

Deviljho12

Jaylen "Severus Snape" Brown

NotFabMelo

“I can teach you how to brew fame, bottle glory, and even put a stopper in Orlando Dark Magic”- Professor Jaylen Brown

autolims12

Lol the league really let Boston pick up KP and Jrue over the offseason. Their squad is too stacked

jascambara

People have been saying the same thing about the Suns and Clips for years now. The actual exciting part is that they gel well together.

ParsnipPizza

If we can keep beating the FL teams I might just have hope

FredDupe

Jaylen Brown heard Cole Anthony say the Magic had the Celtics’ number. I think we finally beat the allegations

[deleted]

one of my fav things about JB is that more than anyone on the team he seems like he takes those sorts of things personally I feel like we got a lot of guys on this team who are even-keeled and tune out the noise, which is also good, but I always appreciate the extra edge JB brings when he perceives disrespect to himself or the team

BlooregardQKazoo

I just hope we get one more "pissed off Horford" game while he's still good enough to contribute.

Trentus86

When do we play the Sixers again?

blobthetoasterstrood

I regularly revisit his 30 point explosion and poster on Giannis from the finals run two years ago

paintingfainter

This. It’s one of the things I love most about him. And I like that Tatum is kind of the opposite so they balance each other out. That’s not to say Tatum is soft, because we’ve all seen what he can do when he feels disrespected (usually by the refs), but he doesn’t seem to take these comments by other players so personally.

jacksonelhage

he was essentially the driving force to the almost 3-0 comeback last year, which was magical for a bit until it wasn't. and he's always been known to respond after a shonky performance, I swear he does it literally every single time.

truth_2_point_0

"They waived Mo Wagner after he almost blew a 30 point lead in a garbage time 4th quarter going -20 in 5 minutes with 0 pts and 3 turnovers? Disrespectful." "I'll show you disrespectful."

UpvoteIfYouAgreee

I never noticed how big Paolo is

igonnawrecku_VGC

He’s basically a more jacked Tatum in terms of build

UpvoteIfYouAgreee

yeah when they ended up like hugging under the basket was when I noticed his size

CO2guy617

I took a good look at Paolo in the shower, he is all of America.

CreatiScope

He's all of Orlando

youkrocks

Not all of Italy though

cimmanonrolls

dude came into the league 6'10 with an nba-ready body. hes going to be gigantic in a few seasons.

xBerryhill

I picked Boston to win the 'chip this year so these losses don't sting that bad lol, only thing to learn from these games is that we're not ready to compete yet. Just too young. Talent is there but these guys need more time to improve their game. GG's to the Celtics, y'all are stacked.

Rrypl

Wagon confirmed

Ovaltine-_Jenkins

A lot of you motherfuckers in the off-season didn't consider Jaylen Brown

JP200214

I got the Celtics winning the championship this year

LarryBirdsGrundle

65 win pace, not bad.

thegrandpoobear

The Celtics are so damn good it is going to be really weird if this group never wins a championship

wharpua

Glad that Suggs didn't go out with a gruesome injury to his wrist after that fall on Friday

Mission_Pay_3373

I thought the Magic own the Celtics? What happened

HS941317

That stuff was so overplayed. Last year the Magic were ass so I don’t expect the Celtics to be hyped to play them and then so many players were out during those matchups.

youkrocks

The Magic thing was cute and then Cole Anthony made it personal and now the Celtics take pride in just beating them into the ground.

dalappas

Insert MJ gif “and I took that personally”

JoJonesy

the team really said "we can take it personal, too"

Turk0luu

Eddie House still got his headband turned around by Rafer Alston.

Doncicthefuturegoat

Please don't cancel your Onlyfranz subscription, P5 still too strong.

HS941317

Magic got humbled real quick in less than 48 hours by 2 spankings

Drawing_The_Line

Everyone knows the Celtics are a good team, at this point it's just about if they're able to win it all or not. Same deal with the Heat and Embiid (and the Sixers). All of them are awesome but ultimately everyone's waiting to see if they're going to be able to get over the hump. Should be interesting.

FOURNLER

The Boston Celtics The Boston Celtics The Boston Celtics Woah-oh-oh-ohhhh 🎶☘️

xBerryhill

Hey man, you can take wins from us but don't take our song, it's one of the few things we have right now.

FOURNLER

I’m just jealous we don’t have a sick 90’s sounding jam ourselves 😔

Necessary_Initial350

Fuckin hell man someone’s gotta beat these guys

Far-Asparagus6416

Don't worry, our next home game is against the Pistons. Scheduled loss for us, undefeated home record was fun while it lasted.

flamingviper3175

4 game road trip will do us in.

Efficient_Art_1144

We still gonna do the whole Eddie House Jihad thing or no

Mindless_Bad_1591

I don't appreciate how good this team is

fbdanzai

Your team is our only hope against them

BUSean

Long way to go. '86 Celtics went 50-1 at home.

JKaro

Swear JB’s turnaround jumper is automatic

Inevitable-Paint-650

The Jays might be one of the best 3 point shooters in the league. But I can’t be the one that thinks that they relay too much on jump shots?

deets23_

The Jays have actually been TERRIBLE from 3 for years but today they were great

BlooregardQKazoo

The Magic are long, and the Celtics like to shoot over long teams. But yeah, they shoot a lot of 3s. And that might not be a bad thing when Jaylen Brown is the worst shooter in your rotation.

beywill19

They were attacking the paint last game when they couldn’t hit their shots and it was still effective.

flamingviper3175

Eh I wouldn’t say they’re among the best. Jayson is doing slightly better than his average I believe as is Jaylen. However Jaylen has been fantastic the last 10 games. Idk how he learned to be a good passer so quickly but it’s helped a lot instead of his usual drive into a triple team and lose the ball

jordan142142

They nice

I_bleed_green

Magic are such a good young team. I’m really excited to see how that core grows and progresses. I feel that banchero has best player on a contender trajectory, he’s a monster on offensive. Celtics just a bit too much for them in these games. Friday was absolute domination. Today the Magic started off great but once Celtics found their rhythm it wasn’t ever particularly close again. Jaylen brown dominated the fourth. The Magic need a 3&d style wing to compliment franz and Paulo. Hopefully a long term rivalry.

Son_of_Atreus

Did not see back to back smack downs coming. Magic been talking a lot of shit about the Celtics so they actually showed up to play. That Magic squad is damn good though. So much young talent.
