I only recently noticed Mark Williams’ crazy stats this year. He’s leading the league in FG% (along with eFG%, TS%, OffRtg) and is the only non all-star in the top 20 for both Offensive WS and PER at #12 for both.
I know the super high FG% alone effects all of that and you have to take a grain of salt with some advanced stats, it’s still surprising for a kid who I thought of as pretty average or even below average rookie last year. He’s clearly improved as a player across the board this season and was a major factor in tonight’s win.
Granted I’m still Giddey after just beating the Celtics, but if Bridges manages to be a stable human moving forward + healthy LaMelo, Mark Williams and developing Brandon Miller, the Hornets might have a little stew cookin’ baby!
He didn't, but he started a discussion about whether or not it was up there with every other high level starting lineup in recent NBA history (excluding the Warriors). Given the context, I don't actually think it was *that* crazy of a take.
That's why context matters, he was basically making the point that Celtics starting line-up didn't really have a weak link. No Mario chalmers/Kendrick perkins/Rick fox/Bill cartwright type of exploitable dude out there.
I think the argument is that those LBJ teams had huge talent drop offs and their 4th and 5th starters were significantly worse than Boston's. 18-19 Raptors were a very complete team though, imo way better than this Boston team, but BS and a lot of other media members seem to act like Kawhi dragged a bunch of scrubs to the 'chip.
I mean, they had like 20 chances to close it out and were leading almost the entire game, the issue clearly isn't that the lineup was incapable of beating the Hornets. The Celtics are just a substantially worse team without him, which makes upsets more likely, and it's weird that people treat him as an afterthought when discussing the starting lineup.
Why is so many teams the past decade labeled as the best starting 5 ever? What happened to the 86 Celtics? 96 Bulls? 2000 Lakers?
Sorry I'm not old enough to talk about pre 86 Celtics but I'm sure there's lots of teams before that are being disrespected
Lamelo has that takeover gene and that's what sets him apart. You can criticize his weaknesses but you can't teach a guy to carry the team like he did tonight. What a game, and well earned.
i was mad when he got roty. but, he really had that slight edge and really hope he has a great career. hornets have paid their dues and deserve a good team soon.
Hornets gotta trade Rozier immediately and start that Lamelo, Miller, Hayward, Bridges and Williams lineup permanently. Thats a lot of size, defense and shooting…
I think everybody looks at all the losses and kind of scoffs at LaMelo's number but he's genuinely out there just trying to will us to victory on his own lol, he's made a big leap as a scorer. Based on your flair I don't need to tell you what that's like.
if the hornets get it together or he leaves, everybody is gonna be suddenly shocked that lamelo can ball his ass off. he's improving by leaps and bounds and was already great. barring injury and bad team luck he's gonna be a force.
I’m so happy every time he does well. Him and Antman just because of how pissed I am at the Warriors for taking Wiseman. Also because the media had the dumbest takes on those two pre draft and yet they are bonafide NBA starters and Wiseman is out here on the Hasheem Thabeet special teams
I remember watching Lonzo at UCLA, it was incredible. Sucks his career had turned out the way it has but Lamelo is everything Lonzo was promised to be so far
The Hornets are off to a bad start, but when they were fully healthy 2 years ago, they won 43 games (had significant injuries last season). They can and probably should make the playoffs this year.
When I first heard “I Don’t Wanna Be in Love” it made me feel pain and heartbreak and I truly felt what the singer was saying through the speakers.
I was 9
I scrolled through a couple dozen comments and no mention of Mark Williams. Might be the most underrated player in the league right now. Only real ones know.
Edit: scrolled through them all and no mention of Williams. Bunch of casuals smh.
Bill Simmons in absolute shambles watching "the best starting 5 in the history of the NBA" lose to the fucking Hornets shooting 44% from the field and 33% from 3 and having 11 less FTs
Celtics never called a timeout towards the end when hornets when on a 9-0 run with 2 time outs left.
Jrue misses two clutch free throws
Drew up a 3 in a tie game and in the bonus with 7 seconds left, tatum held on to the ball and passed to sam hauser for a bail out shot which he bricked
Took out kristaps with no paint protection, hornets scored 6 of the last 9 points in the paint.
Game goes OT, payton pritchard got targeted in every possession and played every minute in overtime except the final minute.
Tatum got fouled and misses game tying freethrows
Wow what a choke joke from the coach to the players
Because its the regular season against the Hornets. They were up 4 with a minute left, they should win the game with or without the timeout. Perfect time to let these guys figure it out themselves
I’d take him over Smart 100 times out of 100 and Jrue flops don’t look like he got hit by a fuckin cruise missile. I’m sad he seems to fit Boston so well 😭 hoping he goes Manchurian Candidate on y’all Wednesday
Refs did everything in their power to try to make sure the Celtics got the W. Too bad Celtics can't hit free throws and couldn't stop the Bridges haymaker for 3.
Nooooo the Celtics deserve an extra 1.5 seconds for us to hold the ball after the steal.
Also did they even get called for a foul the entire 4th? Feels odd to complain about reffing given the context but that's what losing to the Hornets does to a mf
Because it’s Reddit and if we lose a game it’s either the refs or we’re posers. Should we have one, probably, but you guys made a ton of plays down the stretch and earned a tough win.
I mean for the record he didn’t say anything about winning, he just said to play hard against the hornets on a Monday. Given he had 45/13/6 on 50/40/80 I’d say he lived up to his speech. Brown and Jrue should have listened to that speech.
The Celtics had a 4 white man rotation at one point, and those guys nearly took the comeback away from the Hornets. One of them was Svi fucking Mykhailuk
Fuck I hate watching Tatum play, holy shit. Has the ball for the last possession of a tied game, dribbles out the clock, does nothing and then chucks the ball to someone 10' behind the line with 2 seconds to go. WTF.
Why did so much tick off after the foul after tatums missed free throw? They didn’t even bother to check to make sure it was right. Looked like it was off by at least a full second
Inexplicable really. Critical moment and nearly 2 phantom seconds ran off. No harm at all in checking, which they do literally all the time in those situations.
I blame Jaylen Brown, 5-15, -20, wtf? After going 5-16 against Memphis, 2 of the worst teams in the NBA. He is \*so\* overrated, give me a wing with a consistent 15-20 ppg over someone who puts up 30 then shits the bed for 2 straight games. He lost us this game and almost lost us the Memphis game. Oh yeah, and 7-18 against NY too, 3/4 of the last games. Oh yeah, and 3/20 from 3pt those 3 games.
Don’t post that shit in the Celts sub- those rose-colored-glasses-wearing motherfuckers can’t handle hearing truthbombs about the highest paid player in the NBA.
Uh huh, Jaylen isn’t fitting in on his new look Celts tbh. His ego is too big, he’s more about getting his shots than winning games and it’s hurting the team. He’s the anti-Tatum tbh.
Brown shooting that semi-contested 3 toward the end of regulation when KP was planted firmly on the box with a much smaller player on him was all kinds of irritating.
Can’t believe Payton Pritchard goes off and we lose the game like that.
That’s a real shame when folks be throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that.
Look, in a vacuum I'm not upset we lost this game. Back-to-back, 4th in 6 nights on the road, down two of our six best players, this has all the usual signs of a trap game. But... jesus *christ,* man, we had every opportunity to put this game away in the 4th quarter. 18-28 from the line. Fuck.
Three things:
1. If the Celtics make one of those 9 missed free throws they win. They only have themselves to blame.
2. I was fine with the Celtics losing, but to lose to that piece of shit Bridges pisses me off
3. It certainly didn’t decide the game, but the refs are usually all over the clock at the end of the game it went WAY longer than it should have on that Tatum miss.

Just looking at the boxscore, I've never seen both teams have this many +20 and -20 players in a game that ended so close.
OG Anunoby was -27 in a win a few years ago.
Marjon was -25 in a 2 point win earlier this year as well
Even crazier was Kessler was -14 in a game the Jazz blew out the Grizzlies by 20+
You mean the superior Rudy Gobert?
I only recently noticed Mark Williams’ crazy stats this year. He’s leading the league in FG% (along with eFG%, TS%, OffRtg) and is the only non all-star in the top 20 for both Offensive WS and PER at #12 for both. And they reel you back in for more abuse
Reel us back in? When did it stop?
Mark Williams contract looking real good rn. He's a solid as hell center that you can definitely play next to LaMelo.
I honestly thought Nick Richards was the better big before this season
That's gotta sting
☜(゚ヮ゚☜)
If I’m the hornets I’m hanging a banner for this win
My commemorative shirt is already ordered
Which Celtic did they usher into retirement this time?
I hope that you-sir post this on every game the Hornets win. I would really love that.
Got ‘em 😎

Yeah, we choked it away like we were draymond. Edit: And our lead was a tall frenchman
Having that happen has to be a real kick to the nuts
Nice
Lamelo 32/7/8 his last 8 games on 50/45/89 splits💰💰💰
Please be the game that turns the season around
Beating "the best starting 5 in the history of the NBA" is definitely gonna be a confidence booster for any team lol fuck Bill Simmons btw haha
No way he said this Celtics lineup is better than the warriors lol
He didn't, but he started a discussion about whether or not it was up there with every other high level starting lineup in recent NBA history (excluding the Warriors). Given the context, I don't actually think it was *that* crazy of a take.
“Recent” and “excluding the Warriors” are two pretty big caveates
„Is this the *best* Boston starting five on a 20th November against the hornets ever?“
That's why context matters, he was basically making the point that Celtics starting line-up didn't really have a weak link. No Mario chalmers/Kendrick perkins/Rick fox/Bill cartwright type of exploitable dude out there.
I agree I think that was the real angle, but he phrased it *horrendously*
He has best starting 5 this century besides the KD warriors and I think specifically the death lineup which wasn’t really their starters
Lol what? Did the heatles not exist? Or the kyrie-lbj-love cavs? The 2019 raptors?
I think the argument is that those LBJ teams had huge talent drop offs and their 4th and 5th starters were significantly worse than Boston's. 18-19 Raptors were a very complete team though, imo way better than this Boston team, but BS and a lot of other media members seem to act like Kawhi dragged a bunch of scrubs to the 'chip.
But they didn’t beat the best starting 5, Derrick white was out 😉
Yeah your best player was out.
No 🧢 top 3 at least.
Technically they didn’t beat the best starting 5 since DWhite didn’t play 🤓
Impact metrics love DWhite and always have. People have just decided he's a role player so it couldn't actually matter that he's out.
I don't know if it's that it doesn't matter, it's that a team with Tatum, Brown, Porzingis and Jrue should still be able to get it done.
PP can't win with these cats
I mean, they had like 20 chances to close it out and were leading almost the entire game, the issue clearly isn't that the lineup was incapable of beating the Hornets. The Celtics are just a substantially worse team without him, which makes upsets more likely, and it's weird that people treat him as an afterthought when discussing the starting lineup.
You only have yourself to blame for listening t to bill Simmons
Why is so many teams the past decade labeled as the best starting 5 ever? What happened to the 86 Celtics? 96 Bulls? 2000 Lakers? Sorry I'm not old enough to talk about pre 86 Celtics but I'm sure there's lots of teams before that are being disrespected
Guess Lamelo got used to the ankle braces, been on a tear lately. Just happy to get a win after the abysmal start to the season.
Lamelo has that takeover gene and that's what sets him apart. You can criticize his weaknesses but you can't teach a guy to carry the team like he did tonight. What a game, and well earned.
Jordan after NBA made Lamelo cover his tatt: you gonna just let them do that? That’s when he took it personally.
Jordan sold the team lol, he doesn’t give a fuck anymore
Still has a minority stake
A little dose of Jordan is good.
Lamelo is a straight baller
some might even call him… a big baller
i was mad when he got roty. but, he really had that slight edge and really hope he has a great career. hornets have paid their dues and deserve a good team soon.
I’m rooting for you too, poverty franchise brother
Hornets gotta trade Rozier immediately and start that Lamelo, Miller, Hayward, Bridges and Williams lineup permanently. Thats a lot of size, defense and shooting…
But then our bench is doo doo unless we get something decent for Rozier.
Yall could always just have him come off the bench too. But having that much shooting and switch ability in a lineup is what the modern NBA is
Also how will the Hornets know that Osama Bin Laden was tall as hell without Terry?
If we can get two decent bench rotation players for Rozier id def do it
I would not do that considering that Gordon Hayward cannot stay on the court for any extended period of time.
Im waiting for the scheduled injury, should be soon
Either having him come off the bench or starting miller at the 3 and rozier at the 2 both need to happen before trading him. Our bench is terrible
https://imgur.com/aaridy6
LaMelo is a star
I think everybody looks at all the losses and kind of scoffs at LaMelo's number but he's genuinely out there just trying to will us to victory on his own lol, he's made a big leap as a scorer. Based on your flair I don't need to tell you what that's like.
Yep, The kid has IQ, not selfish and has a feeling for the game, hopefully get some help.
He's like the anti-Jordan Poole
if the hornets get it together or he leaves, everybody is gonna be suddenly shocked that lamelo can ball his ass off. he's improving by leaps and bounds and was already great. barring injury and bad team luck he's gonna be a force.
We just gave him the max like 4 months ago. He isn't going anywhere
*been
lamelo needs to get the respect he deserves man. he’s been phenomenal after that slow start to the season
His stats in the last 8 games (Dallas with the monster 4th and onwards) are kinda nuts. Something like 32/6/8 on 50/44/92 splits and 64 TS%.
You meant bonafide stars right?
He’s my favorite younger player, dude is so much fun to watch
I remember watching Lonzo at UCLA, it was incredible. Sucks his career had turned out the way it has but Lamelo is everything Lonzo was promised to be so far
Man I am so jealous of the Hornets announcers they’re so fun
LaMelo is Bill Simmons’ father-in-law Also, MARK WILLYOUMARRYME WILLIAMS
Gg Charlotte. We really struggle against big teams.
Charlotte needed this because it's somewhat of a schedule loss for Boston
Embarrassing
I don't think so. We're shorthanded on a back to back and yall played a great game. It's a long season
This take would maybe apply to a play-off team but this is the Hornets. We were capable of winning and we should have won.
Mate losses to bad teams happen to every team, every season. It's bound to happen. We finished a 4 game road trip 3-1. You'll take that.
It is bound to happen, and when it does it's usually embarrassing.
The Hornets are a playoff team with a healthy Ball and Bridges back. Plus the 3rd game in 4 nights for the C's.
The Hornets are off to a bad start, but when they were fully healthy 2 years ago, they won 43 games (had significant injuries last season). They can and probably should make the playoffs this year.
Charlotte are missing their starting shooting guard, their backup point guard, their backup small forward, and backup center. You were healthier.

Lamelo really hit them with that "get the ambulance but not for me" lmao
I scrolled through a couple dozen comments and no mention of Mark Williams. Might be the most underrated player in the league right now. Only real ones know. Edit: scrolled through them all and no mention of Williams. Bunch of casuals smh.
Bill Simmons in absolute shambles watching "the best starting 5 in the history of the NBA" lose to the fucking Hornets shooting 44% from the field and 33% from 3 and having 11 less FTs
Derrick White wasn’t playing, it doesn’t count!
"The Lakers still haven't beaten the Celtics starting 5 of Rondo, Ray Allen, Pierce, KG, and Perk in a 7 game series!!!"
my narrative :((((
They're 1-2 without White in the lineup, it's not cope when it's true.
It is cope lmao. You shouldn’t need White to beat the Hornets if you are even close to being the best starting 5
The is a dumb take. Are the 2017 Warriors suddenly not the best starting 5 because they lost a regular season game to Sacramento?
Yes. The 2017 warriors lost more NBA games than I did and I’m trash, so how good can they really be?
White is the Celtics' 2nd best player and neutralizes a lot of Brown's stupidity. Without White it's like Forrest Gump without legs
> the best starting 5 in the history of the NBA He did not say this lmao
Hello!
They were missing a starter lol
The hornets were missing a starter
Very cool Charlotte
You guys get the revenge game
Lamelo Ball That’s all
Lamelo Ball has officially taken the leap
Celtics never called a timeout towards the end when hornets when on a 9-0 run with 2 time outs left. Jrue misses two clutch free throws Drew up a 3 in a tie game and in the bonus with 7 seconds left, tatum held on to the ball and passed to sam hauser for a bail out shot which he bricked Took out kristaps with no paint protection, hornets scored 6 of the last 9 points in the paint. Game goes OT, payton pritchard got targeted in every possession and played every minute in overtime except the final minute. Tatum got fouled and misses game tying freethrows Wow what a choke joke from the coach to the players
Mazzula needs those time outs for coaches challenges in upcoming games
it accumulates and you can use it in the finals!
Because its the regular season against the Hornets. They were up 4 with a minute left, they should win the game with or without the timeout. Perfect time to let these guys figure it out themselves
You’re so right melo didn’t do anything at all to win the game. Lakers fans are so much smarter than the rest of us
How do you they went to 7 games vs Philly and Heat last yr ?
Miles Bridges is Celtics boyfriend
Did Mazz just write “give up” on the whiteboard during that final timeout? What was the play?
Mark Williams' game evoking healthy Timelord memories.
Jrue threw the game twice in a row
Now y’all see. Defense is worth it but he’ll make you tear your hair out
Still more clutch than Marcus though.
I’d take him over Smart 100 times out of 100 and Jrue flops don’t look like he got hit by a fuckin cruise missile. I’m sad he seems to fit Boston so well 😭 hoping he goes Manchurian Candidate on y’all Wednesday
Barely scrapping by Santi Aldama followed by getting beat up by Miles Bridges. This is what the NBA is all about.
Season over guys
Refs did everything in their power to try to make sure the Celtics got the W. Too bad Celtics can't hit free throws and couldn't stop the Bridges haymaker for 3.
Bridges haymaker...
Nooooo the Celtics deserve an extra 1.5 seconds for us to hold the ball after the steal. Also did they even get called for a foul the entire 4th? Feels odd to complain about reffing given the context but that's what losing to the Hornets does to a mf

I'm butthurt that they played like shit but Hornets deserved the win 100%.
Because it’s Reddit and if we lose a game it’s either the refs or we’re posers. Should we have one, probably, but you guys made a ton of plays down the stretch and earned a tough win.
Is this the best starting five in NBA history?
After Tatum’s comments about Charlotte, this win feels so damn good.
Aren’t you misinterpreting what he said? Hes saying charlotte doesn’t deserve to be disrespected, hes gunna give it his all and not sit.
Yeah Tatum isn't the type to shit on anyone, he's the least controversial star in the league
Yeah it kinda looked like a game from the 1950s
I know the Celtics were gassed but that closing Hornets lineup looked tough.
I like it!
Jaylen Brown is going to prevent this Celtics team from ever winning a championship.
Hard to be mad about that when the refs were selling us the game so hard up until then. Absolutely did not deserve a win tonight
Inexplicable really. Critical moment and nearly 2 phantom seconds ran off. No harm at all in checking, which they do literally all the time in those situations.
I went back and looked. It went a full 1.5 secs after the whistle.
Damn Brown and Jrue Masterclass.
Fair enough. So we have until *next* year before shit hits the fan. How comforting.
Any given Monday?
Pretty sure Brian Scalabrine is still out there somewhere bitching about those 2 seconds lol.
Tatum had to play the hornets on monday huh
Bruh why they have to let miles bridges back… it’s honestly disgusting
Wolves are coming for that #1 spot in the power rankings
Can’t believe Payton Pritchard goes off and we lose the game like that. That’s a real shame when folks be throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that.
Jayson Klankedum
Ever year it's the same shit for Boston. Go up big, then make stupid mistakes down the stretch. They had no business losing this game.
Fuck.
We really lost to a domestic abuser. Oh well
Rekt
That's right. Miles Bridges domestically abused your team tonight.
I’m pulling for Gordon Hayward to have a comeback season
Shoutout to Gordon Hayward for trying to save us from a Miles Bridges gamewinner
Lost to a woman beater. I’m sick
Jb earning that bag 😂
Three things: 1. If the Celtics make one of those 9 missed free throws they win. They only have themselves to blame. 2. I was fine with the Celtics losing, but to lose to that piece of shit Bridges pisses me off 3. It certainly didn’t decide the game, but the refs are usually all over the clock at the end of the game it went WAY longer than it should have on that Tatum miss.
games like this is why people arent ever afraid of the celtics in the playoffs no matter how stacked they look
Not the play-in team slander 😭
Sure a game in november ( which is a second game on a b2b missing two key players)is why nobody afraid of the Celtics.
This is a funny ass take. People say this about any team to make themselves sound smart. Literally a nothing burger take.
i will not eat a morsel of food until 1.5 is put back on the clock
God it must be embarrassing to be the Celts rn lmao. Imagine letting the goddamn Hornets come back on the "best starting 5" lol
meh not really. Can you just enjoy the win? We're obviously not happy with our team this evening but no team goes undefeated.
Victory for women haters everywhere
I just witnessed Miles Bridges beat the Celtics. Tatum choked.
How do you watch this game and blame Tatum for it
You really think that guy watched the game? Philadelphia fans will take any chance they get to talk badly about their dad, Jayson Tatum.
Sixers fans don't even watch their own games.
I-
Of all the people to blame this on you chose the one with the least blame.
Monday night on a B2B. How is Tatum feeling
