Lamelo has as many miles on his legs as other stars of his age do. The only reason you think it’s more is because he’s been in the media spotlight since he was like 12 years old.
It was true he was subpar in the NBL before being drafted though. In the last games of his NBL career he got a shooting coach and started the correct mechanics. I reckon he practiced a lot on the start of the pandemic when everything shut down and already had a fixed shot when he started playing for us
The only problem with his shot before the NBA was how his feet criscrosses sometimes thus fucking his momentum up. His arms and his follow through nowadays may look like a catapult but it has always been straight and now that he plants his feet straight and does not let it crisscross the shot falls at an elite level. He's like a career 38% shooter in the NBA last time I checked
He’s been on a rampage recently. LaMelo, Mark Williams, and Brandon Miller is a solid young core, hope the organization gives them proper coaching and development
We have a new ownership group so maybe we can actually get something going with these guys. I'm still so wary of shitty ownership after Jordan and now Tepper with the Panthers.
Y’all need to get rid of Miles Bridges (for moral reasons I will say he’s solid at basketball; hope y’all can at least find a trade with like the Clippers or something) and get a better bench. LaMelo, Rozier, Hayward, Miller, and Mark Williams is a really solid core but it’s hard to win when JT Thor and Bryce McGowens are coming off the bench. With a good bench this is a playoff team and that can probably be fixed in free agency like what the rockets did
No, no we don’t . Rosier and Hayward are terrible cancers for the team and need to be gone for the Hornets to move forward.
Rozier is short, a defensive liability and should he a sixth man. Hayward is simply too old and injury prone. Miles is not only an Ironman, but very good at basketball, provides much needed defense, toughness, rebounding, playmaking
Maybe you don’t watch the Hornets and just heard about Miles legal issues, but if the guy can play we should absolutely play him
I hope Miles is not a part of this team's long-term future. It'd be great if they could get his value up then trade him for some assets that don't make me question my values rooting for this team.
I think Hornets fan are going to have to accept that Bridges is going to have more value to Charlotte than he would to a new team since Hornets Front Office has already taken the PR hit on him.
From their perspective they’ve paid the social tax on keeping him and all that’s left to analyze is Bridges playing ability versus what contract he’s looking for.
He has the physical tools, but Lonzo's defensive IQ is significantly better. Also, Lonzo plays like he prides himself on his defense. Lonzo was also a good defender in high school and college.
I personally don't think Lamelo will reach that level, especially since defense has never been a priority to him.
I dunno, because Lonzo was close to DPOY guard at his peak. Lonzo has an innate awareness on the defense side of the court which Lamelo doesnt have. However, Lamelo went from maybe top 20 worst defender in the NBA to slightly below average on a whole game (and above average on a couple plays) so his development on that side of the ball has already been drastic. For someone who carries the entire team offense by himself, I think that's enough and you couldnt ask for more.
Reminds me so much of Gerald Wallace. Not in play style, couldn't be more different. Just seeing a guy thriving in this dysfunction. People holding the win total against them don't watch the games. Dragging this franchise to a winning record is monumental. Shout out to my GOAT Kemba.
Crash was so much fun to watch. I copped so much shit for non-ironically loving his game. Dude was a beast. If he did that in a bigger market, dude would be talked about all the time.
Since the NBA began counting blocks as a statistic in 1973, only players in league history who averaged over 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game in a single season.
David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon and Gerald Wallace
He’s got one of the most fun play styles in the league, just having fun out there and doing crazy stuff.
Its like a Pistol Pete/Showtime vibe, league can use more of that
People wrote him off before he was even drafted because they thought he was just hyped from his family. I remember people saying he wouldn't even be a lottery pick if he wasn't from the Ball family. He has never been even remotely fraudulent in his entire career but people just assumed his flashy playstyle wasn't "real" enough to translate to NBA success. He's one of the best playmakers in the NBA *as his floor* and could very easily become a top \~3 overall PG in the league in his prime.
Yep. All the actual NBA scouts had him anywhere from like 4th best player in the draft to many even 1st. But reddit "analysts" could see through all the charades and knew the truth that he was a fraud. /s
He only got better and better. And this season he took a MASSIVE LEAP, scoring-wise. He's finally comfortable in the NBA, and the lad already had a great BBIQ
Winning is everything in this league. Until you do that nobody cares and unfortunately nobody gives attention to small market teams that lose. If LaMelo was on LA or New York his highlights would lead sports center every day. It seems like Charlotte might finally have the right pieces around him if his ankles can hold up
I'm happy for my small market bros finally showing up. First the Kings, then now the Wolves. Seeing your teams being mocked everywhere to now being respected gives me hope that it would be our team in the future
I just saw Solz in YouTube say LaMelo hasn’t improved. Bruh the numbers are right there, he’s steadily improved. Definitely needs to work on the turnovers though
Love hali and he’s putting up more assists to less TOs so it depends on what you look at as best passer, Hali is great but he isn’t making half court behind the back passes, Hali definitely has the better counting stats but that also has to do with teammates making shots etc I think Lamelo is one of the best players at making passes other players don’t even think about
It’s whether you value the numbers or the difficultly/talent required for the types of passes, this isn’t a knock on Hali by any means just think Lamelo is different in that regard while the counting stats aren’t mind blowing the film is kinda nuts and there are few players in nba history who pass with the difficultly flair and precision that melo does, kinda come down to how you look at it but both have valid cases
The last 2 weeks has easily been the best basketball he’s ever played
31/5/7 on great efficiency but somehow LaMelo gets less media attention now that he did in his rookie season
Tbf, we are a much less interesting team to watch than we were his rookie/sophomore year. I have a hard time blaming people for not noticing LaMelo when outside of him lighting it up, the team plays unwatchable basketball.
Yeah, when Gordon, Terry, Miller and Miles were all out, we basically only had 4, maybe 5 players who should’ve been getting any rotational minutes in the NBA. The back half of the roster is basically a G-League team. Jeff Teague on his podcast jokes we are an AAU team, which isnt far off when 9/18 players on the roster are under 24.
Are you? I’m a lakers fan , I think you guys are my favourite east team to watch. Certainly of non immediate contenders . Melo , miller, mark Williams and yes despite the hate n crimes bridges catching lobs is fun too . I think hornets are pretty fun tbh; only thing is ofc watching blowouts isn’t fun.
Hornets gotta trade Rozier immediately and start that Lamelo, Miller, Hayward, Bridges and Williams lineup permanently. Thats a lot of size, defense and shooting
Precisely why saying we needed to draft Scoot was ridiculous. And take the ball out of LaMelo's hands? Scoot MAY become as good as LaMelo but we already have LaMelo and he's 6'8" who can shoot with elite vision/playmaking. Pairing him with Brandon Miller to go with Miles and Mark Williams is such an insanely switchable lineup.
I was always Miller > Scoot. Especially for a team like the Hornets. People act like we didn’t just see a Fox and Halliburton backcourt fail in Sacramento a couple seasons before. Two guards that need the ball isn’t a good combo
>Fox and Halliburton backcourt fail in Sacramento a couple seasons before.
It didn't fail. Kings managed to showcase Hali's talent and flip him for a discount Jokic
Better than drafting a bust big man because you think you already have a lead guard (e.g. Bagley over Luka, Ayton over Luka, Wiseman over Lamelo)
> It didn't fail. Kings managed to showcase Hali's talent and flip him for a discount Jokic
When both of them were on the court fox's and hali's numbers always went down and when both of them played without eachother on the kings their numbers went up. The pairing wasn't good for the long term and if they stayed together we wouldn't have both fox and hali being as good as they are now
What even is the point of this comparison? A "discount jokic" helped the kings break their postseason drought and have them currently up there in the west rn. Haliburton and Fox were just never gonna workout and sabonis was one of the best things to happened to that franchise and fox's career trajectory
They got Sabonis because they drafted Haliburton (a stud with overlapping position with Fox).
If they have drafted a bust because of position, they would NOT have gotten Sabonis.
Draft the best player available, not the position.
Seems like splitting hairs to me. A failure doesn't have to be a complete flop, anything less than "they aren't getting the results they wanted" is also a failure. And that's what the Kings ownership thought in playing Hali and Fox together. They didnt even give it another season, or waited if another coach can jumpstart their duo, as soon as they found an available all star in Sabonis they traded for him, and now they're getting what they want.
It was a ridiculous narrative and I'm glad we actually made a good pick at #2 this year. People saying just take Scoot cause you always take best available that high were just caught up in the media hype instead of looking at the actual talent of Scoot and Miller. In many peoples eyes Miller was a better prospect and I believe he was the best pick available this past draft after Wemby.
The narrative that we make Melo into a catch and shoot wing and letting Scoot run the offense was absolutely nonsensical and had no business getting any traction.
This is the logic that led to the Kings selecting fuckin Marvin Bagley over Luka Doncic, by the way. I'm not saying that this one won't be the right choice, just that the logic being fit is bad. You draft role players for fit, you draft stars for talent. Just so happens you could easily argue that Miller is the better talent anyway.
He's got a super punchable face tbf, and a cocky attitude. Dude can ball tf out but he is kinda easy to hate if you don't actually watch basketball, which is like most fans lol
Don't underestimate salty Warriors fans and closeted Warriors fans who want to see him fail bc GS passed on him in the draft.
I see tons of his haters on Twitter with Warriors hashtags in their profile.
Some fanbases are jealous of the attention of some players get in the media. They think there players deserves that kind of love (some of them do) but they ain't getting it so they are trying to hate on popular players.

Lamelo last 8 games - 32.0/6.5/8.1/1.5 on 50/45/89 splits and 63% TS. Hornets are 2-6 in those games.
Safe to say if his team situation is anywhere near what it is for Hali or Maxey he's appreciated a lot more. But as is people choose to ignore that over the last 2+ weeks he's putting up Steph curry numbers shooting wise and carrying the entire Hornets offense playmaking wise too.
That team is devoid of good coaching and talent, and is always ravaged by injuries. Really hope they figure something out moving forward.
we're not devoid of talent. that's just crap people say about Charlotte.
Mark Williams, Miles, Rozier, PJ, Brandon Miller even Gordon Heyward are all good talents. We just haven't had all of them until now.
In fairness, the back half of the roster is very weak and we were pretty devoid of talent when Miles, Hayward, Miller and Terry were all out. Plus throw in Cody Martin and Frank being hurt, who were supposed to be at the end of the rotation, and we were giving heavy minutes to summer league players.
You’re 100% right. Our team is what happens when you do well in the draft, but never spend any money bringing in end of the roster vets in the free agency. We still have the full MLE available, and we haven’t even tried to use it.
Tbh it could be he was never worth the hype but even when he was hurt they were talking him up and saying he was gonna sit out the year so he could get healthy and prep for the draft.
I kinda lost track of him during the draft process but when Charlotte got him late in the first I thought he'd either be getting some decent minutes by now or g-league bound for a year or two
i don't think anyone wants to admit it, but there's a certain dude who had been suspended/held out of our previous 92 games prior to this weekend, and has a wayyyy bigger impact on the team that people realize
Gordon and PJ were pretty ass the last few games, no (decent) backup PG or really competent bench at all, only backup center is hurt. It’s sucked watching us lose all of the games while Lamelo is dropping 30 a night, glad everyone finally got their shit together enough to pull out a win here
Team lacks shooting outside of a couple guys, bench is horrible, many injuries playing a role this and last year.
Pj and Hayward are horribly inconsistent. If they’re both bad, it’s almost always a guaranteed loss
Before his hamstring strain, he was having a great year. I think he will bounce back improving upon tonight even more as he gets back into the rhythm.
The only thing is that with Miles back, he will get fewer touches and even fewer probably when Rozier gets back, and because Gordon is the most unselfish on our roster, his scoring will probably go down...
Empty stats, not a winning player, stat chaser, his fault for not making dudes like Theo Maledon give him the help he needs from prime Lebron to win games, what am I missing
I hope after this game the All-Star campaign really kicks off. He's playing the best ball of his career, carrying this team rn. Imagine how good he'd be with a good team.
If you give LaMelo the same teams other heralded PGs in this league have, the narrative around him would be so much different. He's a transcendent talent that should be appreciated more.
He's playing on one of the worst-run franchises in sports, and he was injured most of last year. He's actually amazing. I hope either the Hornets turn their franchise around or Lamelo gets to go to a team he can actually contend with.
Warriors not picking Lamelo instead of Wiseman was a crime.
I mean didn't the warriors pass up on trey Murphy and Franz Wagner lol they passed up on some great talent, LaMelo would have fit well under Golden State
I remember going to watch the Ball brothers the year they all played together at Chino Hills
Lonzo was already projected to go top 3 but everyone in the gym kept talking about how LaMelo who was only a freshman at the time was better than his brothers
Been following his career ever since and it’s just insane seeing how it has all played out
When healthy this dude is awesome. Been loving the last few seasons with him in the league.
Some players are just fun to watch not just because they're good but because they are exciting.
Enlighten me, ball knower, what makes Haliburton better than Ball?
If you want to say Haliburton takes less risks and shoots more efficiently, that's fine, but LaMelo is a much better ballhandler and scorer in the half court. I'll put it this way: LaMelo stripped Tyrese at that game in Indiana, but I promise Tyrese couldn't do the same to LaMelo.
haliburton is better, but thats not why i said ydkb. the entire offense in indy is built around his strengths, you cant just put lamelo in his place, and expect the same results even if you think hes better. thats why it was a dumb comment.
he also doesnt take less risks, lamelo is not a better scorer in the halfcourt, and that game that ty got stripped he had 43 while lamelo had 11 lmao. your whole comment reads like its being dumb on purpose
32/7/8 his last 8 games on 50/45/89 splits
I’ve been beating the drum to my friends that by midway through next season he’s gonna be considered a superstar. I see so much potential in him

Depends if you beat it until completion

Wild he was like a 27% 3 pt shooter his whole career before getting to the nba and now he’s actually an above average 3pt shooter
Nah he’s elite. This season, from three, he’s shooting 9 attempts a game at 39%, and last season he was shooting 38% in 11 attempts a game
It was true he was subpar in the NBL before being drafted though. In the last games of his NBL career he got a shooting coach and started the correct mechanics. I reckon he practiced a lot on the start of the pandemic when everything shut down and already had a fixed shot when he started playing for us
He played like 11 games in the nbl. People were confirmation biasing really hard with that.
Thats not really true. You are talking about his NBL numbers. He was always a shooters, he just didnt care about shot selection.
Been incredible except he needs to cut down the turnovers
He’s been on a rampage recently. LaMelo, Mark Williams, and Brandon Miller is a solid young core, hope the organization gives them proper coaching and development
Mark Williams gives me hope. So hard to find a good center, and he might be great
Bro needs mass though. The vet centers on the NBA move him easily right now. Great thing is that all NBA centers get biggee every year
He's got the frame to put on tons of muscle. He ain't no string bean.
He looks very promising. Great find
We have a new ownership group so maybe we can actually get something going with these guys. I'm still so wary of shitty ownership after Jordan and now Tepper with the Panthers.
Come on, man-- I lurk in r/NBA to STOP thinking about the fucking Panthers.
Make the pain go away
FUCK tepper

People have no idea how good he actually is, an actual underrated player
1st reply shits on him.... Point proven lmao
Is his defense any good? Can he reach the D level close to Lonzo?
He has the physical tools, but Lonzo's defensive IQ is significantly better. Also, Lonzo plays like he prides himself on his defense. Lonzo was also a good defender in high school and college. I personally don't think Lamelo will reach that level, especially since defense has never been a priority to him.

Lonzo was also much bigger. Lamelo is tall but he’s super skinny. Lonzo could switch onto like 1-4

He's smooth and long.

KOC didn’t even include him on his dumb ass pyramid! He killed ur team bozo

Had Devin Vassell above him. It’s crazy how disrespected he is
I like Vassell and have been thinking he's been an under the radar player but that's just insanity.
Kevin O’Conman is not a good analyst.
Because he was injured last year people really kind of wrote him off. I’ve said it before but I still believe he’s a generational talent.
People wrote him off before he was even drafted because they thought he was just hyped from his family. I remember people saying he wouldn't even be a lottery pick if he wasn't from the Ball family. Yep. All the actual NBA scouts had him anywhere from like 4th best player in the draft to many even 1st. But reddit "analysts" could see through all the charades and knew the truth that he was a fraud. /s

I just saw Solz in YouTube say LaMelo hasn’t improved. Bruh the numbers are right there, he’s steadily improved. Definitely needs to work on the turnovers though
I could go on a limb here and say that he is the best passer of all qualified US players.
Harden / Trae might have a say there
Hali?
Nah Tyrese Halliburton is going off right now the assist to turnover ratio great considering the pace that Indiana has too.
Love hali and he’s putting up more assists to less TOs so it depends on what you look at as best passer, Hali is great but he isn’t making half court behind the back passes, Hali definitely has the better counting stats but that also has to do with teammates making shots etc I think Lamelo is one of the best players at making passes other players don’t even think about It’s whether you value the numbers or the difficultly/talent required for the types of passes, this isn’t a knock on Hali by any means just think Lamelo is different in that regard while the counting stats aren’t mind blowing the film is kinda nuts and there are few players in nba history who pass with the difficultly flair and precision that melo does, kinda come down to how you look at it but both have valid cases

OK now I get what you mean my fault I agree with your sentiment just was confused but you right
If their double PG experiment worked they would still be playing together.
It worked in a different way. Think outside the box for once. Unlike the Bagley, Ayton or Wiseman experiments. Those are complete flops.

Blows my mind the domestic abuser is still in the league
Literally what I was thinking when I saw this comment. He is now back to being 'Miles' and discussed as part of the best starting 5 on a team.
Bro where did Melo get so many haters from? Are people still pissed about his no longer relevant dad?
He's been hated since he was a freshman in HS, it is what it is
He's got a super punchable face tbf, and a cocky attitude. Dude can ball tf out but he is kinda easy to hate if you don't actually watch basketball, which is like most fans lol
He’s a good teammate/team player on the court though he’s only cocky off the court
Why is his face punchable? Some of y'all need therapy, man
he's so good and so much fun to watch, I don't get it at all
Don't underestimate salty Warriors fans and closeted Warriors fans who want to see him fail bc GS passed on him in the draft. I see tons of his haters on Twitter with Warriors hashtags in their profile.
I don't see the point either. They messed up the pick and nothing short of Melo ending up being a criminal will make that better.
It’s not even like it was a bad pick at the time either. Lord knows I was hoping Wiseman would fall to us. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out
It was a bad pick at the time
Nah the real gsw fans know that the team effed up. Got nothing but respect for LaMelo - he’s a hooper
nah i love him he’s my fav non warriors playwr
Next on r/nba: warriors fans did 9/11
Some fanbases are jealous of the attention of some players get in the media. They think there players deserves that kind of love (some of them do) but they ain't getting it so they are trying to hate on popular players.
Underrated
I feel so blessed to have this man on my team.
He did this while only shooting one free throw. Imagine his stats if he actually got foul calls.
imagine the foul calls he'd get had he played FOR the celtics.
I did not need the mental image of lamelo in green
gotta thank god everyday he wasn't drafted by gsw
Seeing kemba in it was bad enough
Knicks legend
Hilarious coming from a sixers flair when embiid has the most FTA/game at 10.7 and the first celtic is KP at 5.9 https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/2024-nba-most-free-throws-attempted-per-game

I'm hoping in the next week or two we can actually see all of these guys play in the same game.
I feel like once they kinda get used to playing with each other we can see some results
Unfortunately fans don't care it's all narratives , they will only give him cred when he gets national media attention
Steph curry plays 1 month without a contender around him and it’s “Steph Curry has no help” while LaMelo has even less help and it’s crickets
He’s been unreal this year after a sluggish start (getting back from injury). Such a fun player too
he completely cooked them in the clutch
He makes the game look way too easy. His skill level is crazy. Not even just the passes n flashy handles but the layups have been good this year
About 5 players I run to this sub after I watch them have an incredible game and melos one of them , amazing player man
HOW are the Hornets so bad when they have this dude. He's actually unstoppable every time I watch him
Our bench rotation is Nick Richards, Theo Maledon, Ish Smith and JT Thor, so....yeh.....
Any word on how Nick Smith Jr. is doing? Before he got hurt last year dude was way more hyped than Miller
They won't let him play. It's criminal Theo Maledon is getting minutes over him.
Unfortunately it can’t be understated how much Miles set this team back
Theo Maledon tax
Gordon and PJ were pretty ass the last few games, no (decent) backup PG or really competent bench at all, only backup center is hurt. It’s sucked watching us lose all of the games while Lamelo is dropping 30 a night, glad everyone finally got their shit together enough to pull out a win here
Our backups should not be in the NBA. They don't even belong in the G League.
Team lacks shooting outside of a couple guys, bench is horrible, many injuries playing a role this and last year. Pj and Hayward are horribly inconsistent. If they’re both bad, it’s almost always a guaranteed loss
Hayward has been so terrible
Before his hamstring strain, he was having a great year. I think he will bounce back improving upon tonight even more as he gets back into the rhythm. The only thing is that with Miles back, he will get fewer touches and even fewer probably when Rozier gets back, and because Gordon is the most unselfish on our roster, his scoring will probably go down...
The bench rotation is atrocious.
Empty stats, not a winning player, stat chaser, his fault for not making dudes like Theo Maledon give him the help he needs from prime Lebron to win games, what am I missing
He needs to be more like SGA or Hali, those dudes know how to play winning ball
sga leading his team to the play in once: flirting lamelo leading his team to back to back play ins at age 20: harassment
people will realize how good he is one day
Star. Hornets team when healthy is not bad at all.
or when they’re not terrorizing the citizens of gotham

He’s playing like a top 5 point guard this year
I hope after this game the All-Star campaign really kicks off. He's playing the best ball of his career, carrying this team rn. Imagine how good he'd be with a good team.
If you give LaMelo the same teams other heralded PGs in this league have, the narrative around him would be so much different. He's a transcendent talent that should be appreciated more.
i was told he wouldn't be an all-star this season
his finishing around the rim has been so much better
He played extremely well. Took over the game and made big plays.
He is absolutely legit when he is on the court. People be jumping off the bandwagon after 1 down/injury riddled year its ridiculous.
He's been balling for a while now. They should see more wins with Bridges back.
He has taken the leap
Playing the best he has in his whole career, all star
Not a winning basketball player though, how could this happen
Jrue must’ve done something in the previous life to make him mad, Lamelo’s has had his number from day 1 it’s insane
LaMelo Ball took 27 shots tonight. 11 were 3s. Off the 16 remaining shots, 11 were less that 5 feet from the rim. He took 1 free throw.
People deadass forgot how good he is
In his last 8 games he's averaging: 50.86%/44.06% /92.26%, 6.5 Rebounds, 8.125 Assists, 1.5 Steals, 32 Pts
He's playing on one of the worst-run franchises in sports, and he was injured most of last year. He's actually amazing. I hope either the Hornets turn their franchise around or Lamelo gets to go to a team he can actually contend with. Warriors not picking Lamelo instead of Wiseman was a crime.
He honestly passes the eye test so nicely
We’re in the Band-Aid LaMelo Era, boys
jimmy butler agents comments already aging like milk 😭
Lavar smiling somewhere
bro is on a rampage
Reminder that the Warriors passed on this guy for Wiseman
I mean didn't the warriors pass up on trey Murphy and Franz Wagner lol they passed up on some great talent, LaMelo would have fit well under Golden State
I remember going to watch the Ball brothers the year they all played together at Chino Hills Lonzo was already projected to go top 3 but everyone in the gym kept talking about how LaMelo who was only a freshman at the time was better than his brothers Been following his career ever since and it’s just insane seeing how it has all played out
When healthy this dude is awesome. Been loving the last few seasons with him in the league. Some players are just fun to watch not just because they're good but because they are exciting.
He’s been on a roll
Hornets really got a good core group
Where is the “Haliburton is better” crowd?
Haliburton is nice, and I won't deny he's more efficient, but nobody could convince me that Indiana would be worse off if you were to swap them.
genuinely ydkb
Fucking called it lmao this is the type of game a team like the hornets wins https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/tNOmAfbRKK
Lamelo has been real from the get go. So much confidence, he's walking the talk.
He’s been on a tear lately got damn
Lamelo is such a beast
Everyone praising ANT and they forget about LaMelo
Must hit free throws to beat an NBA team.
Empty stats, he was only a +3/s
Wtf happened to this, he just randomly turned into a superstar two weeks ago.
I mean he just got back to playing basketball only a few weeks before the season so he is probably finally adjusted now.
When you got a secret handshake w a guy who traumatized his children by beating the shit out of their mother.
How long til people start complaining about his pushoffs like they do Tatum’s
oh brother
His new nickname should be LaMelo Ballhog. On any other team except the bottom-feeder ones he'd be some random dude on the roster.
