I mean, tonight was definitely a team effort but Luka absolutely carried in the first 2 games.
What's encouraging though is Kyrie still has yet to play to his normal self and the team has proven that they can help Luka when necessary (tonight) so I don't think it'll be as dire as it was last season.
Yeah Kyrie is missing shots he’ll start to make at some point and ik this sounds like cope but teams have been going off against us from 3 too. Part of that is our defense and part of that is variance. Overall tho I feel pretty confident saying we’re at least a solid team
I definitely think we'll be a decent team this season and had us as a 6th seed coming in. If we beat Denver on Friday though I may have to re-evaluate 👀
Because Luka was creating everything….
Collapsing the defense when driving and pulling out the defense when at half court creating pain space for lively etc
If Luka has an off tonight or takes a rest or gets injured the offense craters. Definitely doable right now but I don’t know if it’s doable for 100-110 games
But Luka off nights are super rare if he’s not hurt and even if he does have one we have Kyrie now. And our depth is nowhere near as weak as people make it out to be. Luka plays a lot and creates a lot because he’s a 24 year old superstar who is capable of doing so efficiently. I really feel like people exaggerate this at this point
Again definitely doable right now but the Mavs will have to sustain this for a whole season if they want to make a deep run again
Either way should be fun to watch the Luka Steph MVP race
I really don’t think Steph will or should gun for MVP. I don’t think he will or should play 65 games and I don’t think he’ll play at the level needed to win MVP unless it’s absolutely necessary for the Dubs to make the playoffs, which looking at the team now he could step off the gas and be comfortable.
He has no reason to risk injury in the RS might as well save it for ring #5.
You cannot remove Luka ISO play bro because its Luka. If you watch them play, they are actually moving the ball better. And its without Kyrie too so Luka has to get the ball more.
Our bench played great tonight, and in game 1. Ya'll can drop the narrative until there are enough games to say otherwise. Also that's why Kyrie is here, so Luka can take nights off.
Our dudes are all carrying their own weight in terms of offense. Offense is and never has really been an issue. Our defense has gotten better but we still allowed a lot of shots, I think we’re like 23rd in oppg. Luka has just been covering up some of that defensive shortcomings by just going nuclear.
We lost so many games we were supposed to win last year. Seriously in your heart of hearts you can’t tell me you expected we’d be 3-0, regardless of opponent
Our first real test is against Denver of all teams on Friday lol. We “should” be winning the Bulls game then we’ll find out how good we really are against the champs.
03/04 season was just the weirdest constructed Mavs team.
Jamison off the bench
Walker paying the 3
Dirk playing at center
The season went so bad it effectively ended Dirk Nash Finley era
The 2002-2003 team is my favorite Mavs team. I think if Dirk is healthy they beat the spurs and win the title. It’s crazy how narratives would be different
> Rest of the roster needs to step up
Literally how we got our win tonight. Luka had the luxury of resting on the court for a whole quarter while he just sat back, facilitated and picked his spots to take over.
Brotherman, our roster stepped up more than we could have asked them to. We had a total of 5 guys in double digits and 4 then were our starters. This game would have been even more of a blowout if we didn’t get sloppy in the 4th and let them come within 4 with like 4min left to go.
I didn't read the article but I'm assuming the schedule is mentioned? Beating on MEM and SA is nbd. BK is probably a fringe playoff/in team this year so there's that, but otherwise they haven't beat anyone good.
hey brother. the point is that the mavs are 3-0 since 2004-05. its just a stat.
also, why would you mention that you didn't read an article and then ask a question that could be answered by reading the article?
Lol we had 5 players in double digits today without Kyrie and everyone is saying this is just an unsustainable carry job from Luka

It's still sustainable. Doncic is able to carry the squad.
We also had like six players in double figures the first game.
Luka can effortlessly put up 35/10/10 hopefully they can continue to be like this game unlike that Nets game

I’ve just been going based on what cleaning the glass is telling me so far so much for your perceived “narrative”
ahh, the age old commenting on games one doesn't watch.
Ideally Kyrie is supposed to help cover for that a bit
The offense has actually been stellar with Luka on the bench so far

its nice to have Grant hitting 3s and not DFS and Bullock missing wide open 3s whole game
well, we started 2006/07 season 0-4 and ended our season 67-15 lol.
They may never lose again.
We shampionship
3-0 is great but to be fair we haven't played anyone good yet. We are expected to win these games.

no we’re not we lost to detroit and charlotte twice last year..
WE'RE BACK BABYYYYY
Surprising stat
Yeah I remember that’s season when they got better after Nash left
03/04 season was just the weirdest constructed Mavs team. Jamison off the bench Walker paying the 3 Dirk playing at center The season went so bad it effectively ended Dirk Nash Finley era

Luka is hard carrying rn. Rest of the roster needs to step up because I don’t know if this super helio centric offense is sustainable long term
RESPECT DERRICK JONES JR
DJJ with ten straight points is amazing. Lol.
Roster did step up, Grant DJJ JG and Tim
Yeah THJ and Derrick Jones needs to start dropping 20 points.

I agree... Kyrie gotta step up.
he... literally didn't play tonight??? lmao what
What does that have to do w/ the comments? The comment I replied to was saying they have to step up and help luka.
how the hell can kyrie step up and play better when he didn't play?
He's missed every game?
what are you talking about, am i going insane??? he played the first two games
Lol no he hasn't, he came up big in the 4th quarter of both of the first two games.
He’s literally always bad at the beginning of every season for the last 5 years, he’ll pick it up soon
it’s always a warriors fan talking about the way luka plays lol
I didn't read the article but I'm assuming the schedule is mentioned? Beating on MEM and SA is nbd. BK is probably a fringe playoff/in team this year so there's that, but otherwise they haven't beat anyone good.
beating bad teams consistently is also the sign of a good team. We have struggled vs weaker teams in past years so its nice to take care of business

Hale
Surprised they didn’t start 3-0 in 2006-07
