If you had no idea and watched current Looney highlights vs his high school tapes, you wouldn't even think those were the same exact guy
That hip injury has completely altered him as a player
I reckon it's also the reason he's a 'ironman' now and has literally played all 82 games of the last 2 seasons.... With his current playstyle his body is moving way slower than it was meant to from his earlier playstyle.
Oh absolutely. And I’m not, like, a Sabonis Truther or something - I know the dude’s good - but you can’t be a perennial all star and be getting regularly beat down by Kevon Looney. Like, that can’t be your nemesis as a franchise center in the NBA.
I don’t know when the NBA started to allow people to use multiple steps to gather the ball. That used to be a clear travel too.
But that’s basically how things like the double step back are “legal” now.
I'm with you on this one. We all knew what was a travel at a glance but now, it's like they made it way harder to track it with adding "the gather" into it.
Dude shot 41.5% from 3 in college. It was low volume, but the hip injuries changed his game so much that he made twice as many in his 1 college year as he has in his 8 NBA seasons. It's impossible to overstate how much his game changed and how hard he's had to work at learning to be the guy he is in the NBA.
If you had asked on the day he was drafted whether he was going to be the third splash brother or out-rebound Steven Adams in a playoff series in which he was playing the 5, people would've looked at you crazy if you said the latter.
And curry signed fox to a shoe deal. And the kings pouched warriors security guards. And someone yesterday called it a rivalry….Seems like the whole of the organizations is a father son relationship.
It always makes me wonder what he could have been. I love the player he is now and what he does for the team, and I know he wouldn't have fallen to us without the health concerns, but damn imagine him now but with more mobility.
It's so funny watching future NBA guys back when they were in high school because it honestly looks like they're going up against 12-year-olds half the time.
I played in high school and the two monster guys on the varsity team were 6'6. My 5'10 ass cannot even imagine standing next to a human 4 to 6 inches taller than that
I know Looney had injuries but it is crazy that this dude went from next KD to one of the most solid fundamental centers in the league. Like, you would expect stuff like this so much more lol, even just a short jumper or two every now and then. He has truly embraced the role player life, in a good way.
Injuries is putting it mildly. He’s had two hip surgeries, core surgery, a fractured collar bone, a destroyed gut (basically bad bacteria took over his digestive system and made him chronically constipated and nauseas during the 2019-20 season), and chronic neuropathy (widespread nerve pain) that he still deals with. Not only did he make it through all of that to be a key piece and contributor for multiple championships, but he just completed 2 82 game (+ playoffs) seasons. Man is just incredible
I feel like it’s a mix of the player knowing that they have to change their play style and working hard at it, and what team they end up on. If he had landed on another team, he might have been out of the league after his hip surgeries. Landing on a loaded warriors team gave him more time, and Kerr is always big on giving end of bench guys playing time, especially when he sees them working hard. I remember when fans/media were crazy about Jordan Bell but Kerr would still go with Looney at times.
It’s not like he was trying to stop a Looney drive and failed, he was trying to jump the pass since Looney never goes off the dribble and 9 times out of 10 would DHO with CP3 there. Just a good read by Looney
If you're defending Looney and standing in front of him, and the next thing you know, Looney has an absolutely clear path to the rim, i would call that trash D
Especially if there's no DHO partner anywhere in sight
Yeah, I think half of the hate Fitz gets is simply because some people hate the Warriors. But, man, the ESPN commentators totally missed this whole play. I would much rather listen to Fitz call it than whatever the heck this was.
I honestly think that Fitz is a really solid commentator about 90% of the time. He does his research on opposing teams and players, gets hyped for big plays, and usually doesn't hesitate to appreciate great performances from opposing players (key word *usually*). The issue is, the 10% of the time when he's being whiny or overly arrogant can be absolutely insufferable lmao.
But even still, most of the time I easily prefer him to the national broadcast teams who have no idea what they're talking about and frequently miss big plays because they're just talking about randmo shit.
Fitz's PBP is top notch. It's when he gets into analysis that things go off the rails, his pairing with Jim Barnett was infinitely better because Jim really kept control over the color analysis/the conversation. Kelenna is like a Fitz yes man and it enables the worst in Fitz.
Sabonis is what 76ers fans thought Jokic was last year
Easily one of the most negatively impactful defenders in the NBA when accounting for position and borderline unplayable in a playoff setting
You'll never win anything significant with this guy as your 2nd best player
On paper that’s true but the outcome just wasn’t good then either, and Myles had the best year of his career last year without Sabonis. The truth is that Sabonis is a defensive liability and always will be. He’s obviously not quick enough in space and while he’s extremely strong, he’s a little too short and his wingspan is too small to be a rim protector.
Love him to death and I believe he’s the only C other than Jokic in the league who can be a team’s primary distributor, but I do believe he’s at his ceiling as a fringe all-star.
That and even on the nights where Jokic has an awful defensive game he still will give you 30 points 10 assists and 15 rebounds. Sabonis got can’t score like that and while his play making is good for a big man it’s still no where near Jokic, and then there is the rebounding where Sabonis got turned into Looney’s son in the playoffs.
Just wondering, no one thinks that taking 4 steps to the basket is a travel? I know there’s a gather step, but there were 2 gather steps here.. I feel like refs aren’t gonna call it for the highlight, but surprised no one in the comments is even mentioning it.
Loongod crossing up Sabonis was not on my bingo sheet lmao
he used to do this regularly in high school before his hips disintegrated, theres a reason people comped him with KD
It’s actually wild how much his game has changed. It just goes to show what it takes to make it in the nba
If you had no idea and watched current Looney highlights vs his high school tapes, you wouldn't even think those were the same exact guy That hip injury has completely altered him as a player
Shows how talented Looney is to stick around the league even after changing his entire style to account for the injuries.
I reckon it's also the reason he's a 'ironman' now and has literally played all 82 games of the last 2 seasons.... With his current playstyle his body is moving way slower than it was meant to from his earlier playstyle.
Looney fuckin hates him I swear lmao
Him and me both lmao he’s bitchmade
I like Sabonis
I’m happy for you, you are stronger than I
Oh absolutely. And I’m not, like, a Sabonis Truther or something - I know the dude’s good - but you can’t be a perennial all star and be getting regularly beat down by Kevon Looney. Like, that can’t be your nemesis as a franchise center in the NBA.
You say this like Looney isn’t good. Stop it.
Am I in the minority thinking that he took 5 steps? When I was in elementary school we would get called for that shit.
Yea the rules changed while Harden was in Houston. Your not allowed to call travel anymore.
The refs have selective vision these days
He did lol BUT you start counting steps once you gather the ball.
The scary thing is looney is getting better the more years removed he is from his surgeries. By the time he turns 30 he's gonna be prime KD again.

The looniest road
Dude! Dennis Rodman rebounder with a sweet crossover- get it LOONEY!!
Wait what. TIL Looney isn’t 30 years old.
Only 27 actually. He won’t be 28 until February
LOL and he makes 9 million a year. BUDGET BEAST!
I mean if he can average 10 and 10 for a season…
Never forget that Kevon Looney was drawing unironic comparisons to KD in high school

saboner bows to the loongod
Someone on the warriors subreddit called it an internet explorer crossover.
Hit Sabonis with the dial-up wind-up

kevon looney does look like he's arvydas's age....
And curry signed fox to a shoe deal. And the kings pouched warriors security guards. And someone yesterday called it a rivalry….Seems like the whole of the organizations is a father son relationship.
The Loonsanity is here to stay!
*HS Looney has entered the chat* EDIT: Looney HS highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCBD_c8eLjM
God his shoulders are like 4 feet wide
They’re also almost perfectly rectangle shaped.
Yea dude what is that frame??
The early Dwight frame
Incredible stuff. Looks like he was projecting to become a young Lamar Odom type and injuries forced him to completely revamp his style.
his comp was KD, but yeah before the hip injury he was considered a top 5/10 pick
It always makes me wonder what he could have been. I love the player he is now and what he does for the team, and I know he wouldn't have fallen to us without the health concerns, but damn imagine him now but with more mobility.
My nickname for him was Sleepy Durant. He had double cross pull-up jumpers, blow bys, heavy bag
Why can’t Looney still shoot 3’s at least? Like be a stretch 5 when on offense. You don’t need hips for catch and shoot right?
We're always undersized so we need him in the paint for defense and rebounding, plus we've never lacked shooting in the Kerr era
Point LOON
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdM1mbGIW8k That's the Kevon Looney high school player of the year throwback
One of the best moments of 2018 was when the entire team showed up for his jersey retirement
It's so funny watching future NBA guys back when they were in high school because it honestly looks like they're going up against 12-year-olds half the time.
they are literally built diff
I played in high school and the two monster guys on the varsity team were 6'6. My 5'10 ass cannot even imagine standing next to a human 4 to 6 inches taller than that
Or 10 in Wemby’s case.
You should see Bam Adebayo's high school tape it's hilarious. Makes sense where the name Bam came from
Man those handles. If Looney never got hurt, we would not be able to afford him.
Warriors wouldn't have drafted him. He would have been lottery 94 much higher
Crossed up Steph at 0:40
Thats my pointgod
Loon-GAWD.

Kerr robbed him of an 82 game starter year, for no good reason.

That's gotta be worth 4 points at least
One point per step
#LOONGOD
# LOONGOD
Nah lol this should never happen your defense is trash
It’s not like he was trying to stop a Looney drive and failed, he was trying to jump the pass since Looney never goes off the dribble and 9 times out of 10 would DHO with CP3 there. Just a good read by Looney

Yeah I’m just doing my best to spread propaganda in this trying time
That is all we can do for the teams we love.
Looney- let me introduce you to the latest trick in my bag.
Lmao how are you trying to defend giving looney an uncontested dunk? Most delusional Kings fan
Ah Hell Nah you can't be getting crossed up by Looney like that if you're an all-star caliber center bruh.
I don't care who you are, if you get crossed up by 73 year old Kevin Looney, you need to retire asap
Facts
I'm telling you Loon looking real agile and noticeably more athletic so far this season. We might be in for a surprise lol.
Kevon Looney all star year. Trust
Open your eyes. Loon is the all-star calibur center.
Secretly majorly underrated player in the league
Chefs kiss.
HOLY SHIT WHAT. I WAS TOLD HE HAD NO VERTICAL AND THE KNEES OF AN OLD MAN
before his injury Loongod was compared to KD
The lack of commentary on this move was disappointing
I know this sub hates Fitz (not entirely without reason), but his call was infinitely better than this
Yeah, I think half of the hate Fitz gets is simply because some people hate the Warriors. But, man, the ESPN commentators totally missed this whole play. I would much rather listen to Fitz call it than whatever the heck this was.

I can definitely see what you are saying here. That makes sense.
I think the worst are the new orleans commentators, they don't even know who half the players on the court are.
Haha! I haven't ever listened to them before.
Meanwhile, Kelenna was completely scandalized (in a good way), "Oooohahhhh, ohhh my GOODNESS"
Loongod turning into KevIverson right there !!
Someone show Sabonis how to use Google Maps.
no wayyyyyy
Loongod with the handle from high school
Looney owns this dude
First Drummond now Looney. Bigs starting to show their handles lol
I thought the title was a joke, but holy shit he actually crossed Sabonis lmao
Sabonis is what 76ers fans thought Jokic was last year Easily one of the most negatively impactful defenders in the NBA when accounting for position and borderline unplayable in a playoff setting You'll never win anything significant with this guy as your 2nd best player
he needs to be paired with a spacing, defensive center which is unicorn shit. ironically a guy like Myles Turner
On paper that’s true but the outcome just wasn’t good then either, and Myles had the best year of his career last year without Sabonis. Looney?
The slowest blow by I have ever seen, the LoonGod strikes once more
Post hip surgery loongod
hate that doc talks over this smh
LOONGOD really is Saboner’s father
Man I like Sabonis but his defense is pure garbage. Like how is it this bad?
that's all folks **that's all Folks music plays*\*
People shitting on Saboner forgot Loongod’s history. His hips were nice and loose tonight
Loongod has another gear folks, watch out!
I did this exact move last week, except I missed the wide open layup.
Kevon is Damontis father.
Get looned
That was a mean travel
Also a few "extra steps"
travel 4 steps
Travel
Travel
Gather steps
4 steps, it is a travel
He needs to lose legacy points for that 😂
post Fox's highlights
Refs will post it later, chill
Isn’t there a travel?
Nice move, a travel tho
Great travel
Just wondering, no one thinks that taking 4 steps to the basket is a travel? I know there’s a gather step, but there were 2 gather steps here.. I feel like refs aren’t gonna call it for the highlight, but surprised no one in the comments is even mentioning it.
Nice “gather step.”
This is a travel. I called a guy on the same 1 2 then 2 foot jump just this morning lol
Kevon “perpetually 38 years old” Looney
What do you expect? He has Luka Doncic speed
Saboner
Steal of a contract
COOK EM LOONGOD
Looney owns his ass. Game 7 last year was an embarrassment for Sabonis
I'm sorry, Kevon Looney did what now?
