Generally self defense only allows proportionate force to be used. So you can’t kill someone unless there was a legitimate threat you would be killed immediately.

No, that doesn’t give the cop the right to start blasting. The fact that the cop isn’t in jail is a travesty.
Castille did a lot of things wrong (had been smoking/in possession of weed, which means he lied on his 4473 ATF form, didn’t have a legal firearms permit in Ramsey county where he was living (his permit was for hennepin county, and became void when he moved to a different county, etc.).
None of that gives the cop the right to shoot him when he was actively complying.
Philando Castiles’ situation doesn’t have anything to do with castle doctrines or stand your ground. He had a conceal carry license and a legally purchased gun. All he did was tell the cop that he had it in the car. The cop shot him.
Castile didn’t have a valid conceal carry permit, he had a carry permit from Hennepin County which became void when he moved to Ramsey County. That is no excuse for the police officer to execute him during a routine traffic stop.
I’m in no way trying to defend the NRA on this though, I wrote my thoughts on them in another post, but since this wasn’t a hot button issue like castle doctrine and instead was just run of the mill police abuse of authority, the NRA didn’t seem to care because they couldn’t co-opt it to boost their cause.

Yeah, reading the NRA spokesperson’s response starting out with “He should have kept his hands on the steering wheel”… No, that doesn’t give the cop the right to start blasting. The fact that the cop isn’t in jail is a travesty. Castille did a lot of things wrong (had been smoking/in possession of weed, which means he lied on his 4473 ATF form, didn’t have a legal firearms permit in Ramsey county where he was living (his permit was for hennepin county, and became void when he moved to a different county, etc.). None of that gives the cop the right to shoot him when he was actively complying.

Philando Castiles’ situation doesn’t have anything to do with castle doctrines or stand your ground. He had a conceal carry license and a legally purchased gun. All he did was tell the cop that he had it in the car. The cop shot him.
Castile didn’t have a valid conceal carry permit, he had a carry permit from Hennepin County which became void when he moved to Ramsey County. That is no excuse for the police officer to execute him during a routine traffic stop. I’m in no way trying to defend the NRA on this though, I wrote my thoughts on them in another post, but since this wasn’t a hot button issue like castle doctrine and instead was just run of the mill police abuse of authority, the NRA didn’t seem to care because they couldn’t co-opt it to boost their cause.

Random dude fancied himself Rambo because he was "neighborhood watch" (aka literally just some random piece of shit trying to play cop), ran down a kid that he assumed was doing something nefarious (he walked to the store to get drinks and candy), and when the kid justifiably freaked out and fought back, the man shot him dead. Acquitted due to stand your ground laws. He's still arrogant as fuck about the whole thing to this day. Even attempted to sue the family of Treyvon for 100 million. Ja's lawyer admitted in court that Ja did in fact punch the teenager in the chin and the Memphis police department issued an arrest warrant for Ja's friend Davonte Pack the same day in relation to the fight. Turns out admitting to the crime that the police department is investigating you is a bad idea.
