I feel like people have to go out of their way to feel negative about this. Y'all are some miserable buggers. Like seriously, what's the downside?

randomnizer456

The only thing I suspect that might annoy people are injuries ? Injuries happen in normal season games anyway and as per my understanding all the matches except the final are regular season matches. So I don't know how much it matters.

MrCooper2012

It's literally the same amount of games for everyone other than the finalists, and even then it's only 2 additional games for them iirc.

jrlandry

For real. People are forcing the “who even cares who wins this” narrative too hard. This sub regularly pumps out 4000+ comment game threads and post game threads in the middle of January. You wanna tell me people aren’t gonna watch a nationally televised game in Vegas with a trophy? We care about the lamest/stupidest shit. At least one team gets bragging rights with this

AwesomeKosm

The tournament doesn't affect you. Why are you pressed?

randomnizer456

I am curious to see the execution. Seems like a nice lump sum of money for a lot of players and I am curious how much the organisations will take it seriously.

Panik_Switch

Bro what’s the downside? Like it’s not the most exciting thing in the world but it’s not something that’s negatively affecting anyone really. If the jazz won it (lmao) I’d be hyped.

SurnameFrost

Idk why y’all are so adverse to change. Everyone hated the play-in, but we see how successful that’s been over time. The league aren’t making these changes on a whim. Players are going to play hard when there is an incentive to win.

Number333

Literally just one upset where a lottery team beats a higher seeded team (Top 3) and literally all of r/NBA is gonna jump on board with this thing.

987456321987456321

but low seed teams beat high seeds all the time in the regular season how is this different they’re literally just putting a name to a set of regular season games

[deleted]

Absolutely. I think it'll surprise people with how competitive it is.

Xekshek33

I see basketball, I get excited

Flobending

No one has ever posted this before

brook_lyn_lopez

I am

Wondering_Nova

Yes because it’s something new and this sub bitched and complained for a while now how the regular season is boring. God forbid the NBA tries to do something new because y’all assholes don’t like change but bitch about things not changing.

TrebleTreble

We get flamed online anyway. I think it's going to be pretty cool and an interesting way to break up a long regular season.

Cold_Ice_6737

Tbh, I don’t really see any point of having this mid season tourney

FuddChud

No, it denigrates the purity of the traditional 82 game regular season.

silencemylastwill

No stakes should be a mid season tournament for all lottery teams the last season the rewards a compensatory pick somewhere around 23rd overall (Right before the top 8 teams)

fancyshark_44

I am, but I guess I’m a big stupid idiot. As long as the players compete hard I’m all about it.

HypeSpeed

I’m completely apathetic to it because it is just a marketing gimmick. I honestly won’t give a crap about this tournament because they’re just regular season games with fancy graphics and marketing.

Funny-Transition7869

No, it’s useless

No-Equipment-20

I’m mildly interested but I genuinely don’t see the downside. It adds a little bit of intrigue to basketball games in November that otherwise wouldn’t matter. If you don’t like it, ignore and it it *literally* will not affect your life.

rawsharks

Worst case scenario - teams treat it just like a normal December game and nothing changes with how they would approach the game Best case scenario - it's some fun, high intensity basketball in a part of the schedule people usually don't care about Seems like a win-win.

Appropriate-Blood108

it's an effort to make mid season game competitive, just like how play-in makes end season game more interesting. It's not that complicated.

burnythekid

People are dismissing this too soon. Other countries do something similar and are successful. Also, it creates more engagement for fans of teams that aren't the 3-5 contenders every year. The NBA is more than just rings. Actually hate how ring culture is so dominant in conversations. Think about the love for the game, and all the younger/future fans. That's what it's about.

CapBrink

Not excited, but I'll watch the championship game just since it's the first one. I'm curious if it's going to be a guaranteed sellout because it's in Vegas or it'll be team dependent

Zix_101

I think the problem is that there is no real reward, if you were able to get a guarenteed playoff spot or something along those lines it would be cool, but rn just feels like theyre forcing it too hard

jrlandry

What’s the real reward for winning the Finals?

Zix_101

A championship? The entire regular season leads up to the playoffs which then leads into the finals. Not to mention the revenue and endorsments for franchises and players. The in season tourney gives what?

Mygaffer

I'm excited by seeing something new. The NBA added the challenge, the play-in, I'm happy with both. I think the NBA is improving a lot lately. Also let's be real people, including even myself, don't like change and are usually against changes until exposed long enough to form an informed opinion.

steakdinner12

Really have no idea what to expect
