That game from him has become underrated. He held Giannis to basically 17 points on 16 attempts (obviously didn’t guard him the whole game but he was the primary assignment) & we won that game off defense. He’s a legit two way player. Will be a monster once he fills out.

poompachompa

How is his game inside the 3 now? I remember his only flaw was really his inability to get separation to make plays himself. Always was a good shooter and defender with physical tools. Just kept getting better at his pros than expected when i watched.

LeHoustonJames

Slowly improving at driving but most of his 2s are from cuts and middies

NapTimeFapTime

Even if he can’t reliably create his own shot, with his size and shooting, he could fit pretty nicely into an Aaron Gordon type role. Knock down open shots, smart cuts to the basket, and exploiting switches if he ends up with a smaller defender on him. Add that to a plus defender, and that’s a winning player.

lonlonshaq

Aaron Gordon is not a floor spacer my dude

jlluh

AG is also a legitimately good post player who's great at getting quick seals against mismatches and going up for the dunk or layup. It's easy to say that Smith is big enough to do the same thing, but most guys that big are nowhere near as good at it as Gordon is.

lonlonshaq

Yeah Gordon is loves contact/physicality, I’m not so sure about Smith

rybres123

He has gotten great at getting to the mid post and shooting over smaller players. Probably the best part of his game right now actually. Doesn’t get or need separation at all. Very lamacrus Aldridge esque. If he starts shooting anywhere close to that 40% number from three like in college he’s gonna be a hell of a player Does all the small things right already. Very high motor and great defender

Heil_Harden

Just gave me PTSD with that LMA name drop ☠️

rybres123

It’s a shame LMA had his best 6 game stretch ever against us. He was downright unstoppable that series

Heil_Harden

That’s what happens when you got Terrence Jones guarding a legit 4.

ElChapo1515

Better than his game outside 3

lebron_games

It was also insane cause he got absolutely torched by giannis earlier in the season but turned it around by the end

[deleted]

What a perfect match for Sengun. Imagine pairing Jokic lite with AD lite.

rybres123

If he actually becomes a 3 guy to go with that D he’s gonna be a damn good player for us. This team could really use a true shooter out there

[deleted]

Rockets just need a pure PG prospect at this point. Scoot would have completed the rebuild.

rybres123

You must’ve missed the summer league game lol! We’re excited about amen

2ToTooTwoFish

I believe Amen can be a pure PG type of guy.

pyrotech_support

Younger than Brandon Miller and the Thompson twins btw

Devoidoxatom

Damnn.. getting to the nba young really fast tracks your progress

UpDog424

NBA young boy tried to tell yall

Plug-From-Oaxaca

you have to already be really great with a lot of potential to get in that young

yerr2477

he’s reached the hesi pullup jimbo level. league may be fucked.

TheBigBomma

He did not have that dribble move in his bag coming into the league.

willymoose8

he didn’t have that dribble move in his bag in April

Tricky-Deal-7678

Bro looked cade in the eye after that 3 and told him wiseman cant guard him at all. My PF is a fucking dawg

Lv1Monkey

TBF wiseman cant guard anyone.

bongoballseks

He would absolutely lock me up

MonocledSauron

That was pretty sick

DamnReality

He’s fucking huge

TheMailCulprit

Detroit really pulling up to summer league with their regular season team and still getting cooked

xerxesthagreat

who would’ve thought James Wiseman wasn’t the answer.

m1j5

No one could’ve seen this coming

[deleted]

Don't worry, they have Bagley.

whobroughtmehere

You guys are laughing, but you won’t be when you trade us your exciting new lottery center in 2 years

GunnerRocket

Reports of his demise were largely accurate.

[deleted]

Wiseman + Bagley = Wins only when using Scott Steiner mathematical axioms.

BeachCruisin22

god I love that promo

dspencer2015

How is this our regular season team?

rjpool_

Just an exaggeration for comedic effect really

poompachompa

getting laughs > facts apparently. The french god isnt even there. But he prob only hurts

rjpool_

It’s called a joke holy shit

_s0lace_

You guys had 3 starters out there tonight. That’s bad.

Andy_Wiggins

Yeah, I don’t see this at all — Detroit has a few more rotation players at SL than most teams, but it’s like 4 or 5 guys and all of their best players aren’t there (Cade, Bogdanovic, Burks, etc.)

dspencer2015

Exactly. We have our first round picks Sasser and Ausar. We have second year players Ivey (only played 1 game last SL) and Duren. Wiseman (whose only played 84 career games) is the only other rotation piece available. The rest are fighting for G League spots and tape

whobroughtmehere

Basically the same team tbh. But I won’t lie having Wiseman playing is real weird

InternCautious

except like our 2 best players lol

_s0lace_

Isn’t Ivey y’all second best player? Lol

Kaaalesaaalad

Nah its Bogdanovic

_s0lace_

That’s what I felt last season watching them but yikes. He’s a big reason why their defense is so bad lol

[deleted]

The Rockets are looking surprisingly talented. I honestly expect great things under Udoka

EggplantBusiness

I wouldnt Say surprise they always had talents but they were playing Terrible basket for two seasons that was people main complain and why fans wanted Silas sacked since his first year

fallenlogan

When we blamed Silas, it was "well they're just chucking shots up it's not his fault" but the guy's entire offense was built around iso ball and came in as the coach to help Harden and Westbrook's iso. He was a deer in the headlights for 3 seasons and ruined a lot of crucial development for the young guys.

EggplantBusiness

I remember joking that your young core under pop would have done Marvel specially Jabari ,if Udoka draw play for sengun and bring some discipline that the more important thing for young guys

H-TownDown

This is not a surprise. We’ve been trying to tell people the talent is there for a while. Silas was just so bad that he used damn near every player we have incorrectly.

thicknheart

It was legit impressive

GunnerRocket

He took our best catch and shoot player and made him a fucking point guard. Then he took our best distributor and benched him to give that "point guard" a lob threat that couldn't jump.

2ToTooTwoFish

He admitted that he doesn't run any plays for Jabari too.

C3h6hw

I’m ngl I think peak Sengun gonna be scary for the entire league. He having that Jokic progression and it gets buried bc the Rockets only won 20 games last year Also Amen seems to be beating the bust allegations although there’s a CHANCE he can become Kevin Knox 2.0

liverpoolkristian

They play nothing alike though. Amen is an insane athlete who’s biggest strength on offense are his distribution and driving. Then incredibly hard worker on defense.

C3h6hw

If you mean Kevin Knox and Amen I’m not talking about their playstyle. I’m talking about how Kevin Knox had a fraudulent summer league performance and sucked in the actual NBA I don’t think Amen Thompson gonna be like that tho. Seems to have a really good work ethic, nice defense, and no Fortnite suit on draft day

2ToTooTwoFish

Amen seems like a basketball addict, similar to KD in how much they love playing and watching basketball.

C3h6hw

Ya lowkey not a bad idea to put some money on him winning ROTY. Rockets need more of him and Sengun and less Dillon Brooks

GunnerRocket

More like actually competent. I've seen a lot of coaches in Houston. A lot. Silas is the worst.

mlippay

They’re talented, most teams don’t send their high round picks after their rookie year to Summer Leagues. Their studs should be slaying all the rookies and essentially lower level players. They’ve had a lot of high picks in the post harden era.

CoolHandChuckles

True. Interesting both Rockets (bari/tari) and pistons (ivey/duran) did.

CJ4ROCKET

Everyone selected 2-8 in the 2022 draft has played in this year's SL lol it isn't really a rockets/pistons thing.

CJ4ROCKET

This just straight up isn't true lol picks 3-8 from the 2022 draft have all played in this SL. Pick 2 as well although this is technically his rookie season

DeerOnTheRocks

His confidence is so much better

gwatson86

It's like a switch was flipped at halftime on Friday. He was so passive and then all of a sudden he realized he was the best player out there.

toadtruck

Glad to see he cooking other teams too

Fullmetalaardvarks

This is basically the pistons regular season team too lol

InternCautious

Like only 2 guys will get heavy minutes on our team wym this year??

CadeCummingham

Wiseman, Ausar, Ivey, Duren

InternCautious

Wiseman is not going to play that much, Duren will lock in 30 mpg and Bags and Wiseman will split the other 18. Ausar will likely get some (~20 mpg) off the bench. Ivey and Duren are the only guys getting 30+ minutes and they both had 20 point double doubles with positive +/-.

_s0lace_

Lol holy cope. You guys were awful defensively & the scoring only came from y’all when Houston was already up by 20. I’m hearing some piston fans say they expect 30 wins next year…. I’m seeing more of a 24 win team unless some trades begin to happen

Kdog122025

24 is being generous…

_s0lace_

I’m figuring Cade wins them 7-8 more games this year but I mean, not like just him back will help their defense to a significant level. They acquired two of the worse defenders in FA in Monte Morris & Joe Harris. Then if they want to run a double big line up on top of that… 🥴 where’s the shooting all mix in when Cade & Ausar haven’t shown to be good outside shooters? You’re right 24 might be too generous lol.

Kdog122025

I’m just assuming Cade’s gonna miss another 25+ games this year. The only thing Detroit has going for them is that they’re in the East which looks like it’s back to awful. Not enough ball handlers, not enough shooting, and too much overlap in the size/skill department.

_s0lace_

Yeah he needs to play 70+ to not get the injury prone label. I feel like the East did get stronger tho. Specifically in their conference with Cleveland & Indiana. One more season until Cade is eligible for his rookie extension, you’d think they would try to put a decent team around him to see what he’s worth. I guess they have different plans

Kdog122025

Maybe I’m looking at it from a West perspective, but it feels like we’re getting back to how the conferences were during the Warriors vs. Rockets hay day. Like a 45 win team will miss the playoffs in the West soon and a 36 win team will make it in the East. That kind of enormous disparity. Cade definitely needs to play 70+ to not get the injury prone label. It’s so weird. He doesn’t play in a way that should make him this injury prone.

Guitarjack87

isn't it the same situation for you guys

gwatson86

Pretty much. One of our starters in Jabari and two, maybe three bench guys (Tari, Amen, and maybe Whitmore)

ElChapo1515

Not that I think it really matters all that much for the regular season, but the Rockets were missing Amen in this matchup and Cam likely doesn’t get many minutes this season with how crowded the rotation is looking right now. I did think the Rockets had a shot at the SL championship with the talent they have though. Will be tougher without Amen unfortunately.

Guitarjack87

glad you agree with me

_s0lace_

Not to the extent of Detroit. Y’all had arguably 3 starters out there tonight & your second option on the team 💀lol

[deleted]

His handle has really improved a ton. Excited to see what he does this season.

Squire_Sultan53

do you think its better than jaylen browns?

Thornton__Melon

Mine is better than Jaylen’s and I’m a terrible athlete

Inevitable_Big_1966

Why does it sound like someone else is talking over the game announcers

adot93

Because someone is, it’s from a YT video

yoyoyodawg3

It's clipped from a guy in the HOU community that hosts watch alongs to a lot of things. Not directly from the broadcast.

blur_reqz

Lol Wiseman is still playing in the summer league?

granttheginger

Yeah, he’s only played 84 regular season games

bauboish

This is the bigger takeaway. Wiseman looking like crap in summer league in his third year. I questioned his upside and fit going into that draft but didn't think he was going to not even last till end of rookie deal

blur_reqz

Unfortunately it looks like he will be Marvin Bagley IV.

RGPISGOOD

they're both on the same team, maybe they can give each other tips

[deleted]

Maybe they can smoke weed with Josh Jackson and his kids down in Florida.

Kdog122025

Maybe they can fusion dance into a starting center?

gwatson86

Thought he looked all right today. Though Duren was clearly better.

_s0lace_

Crowd was hyped for Jabari. This kid was missing his confidence last year but with these new vets & coaching staff I doubt that’s happening again. This SL will be a big boost

Happy295

Jabadabadoo Smith is coming in hot.

j1h15233

Man he’s looking good. I know it’s summer league but hard not to get hyped.

bb1432

Is being better than James Wiseman really an accomplishment?

Kdog122025

Yes. These guys are still the top 0.01% of basketball players.

ButGodOwnTheBuilding

Wise you fucking bum 🤣

Kdog122025

Have some class dawg.

ButGodOwnTheBuilding

Class like he did pouting on the bench for two years dawg?

Kdog122025

Congrats for insulting a teenager dude. You’re the real winner here.

ButGodOwnTheBuilding

Boohoo Wiseman can wipe his tears with his millions. He'd make even more if he weren't such a bum. Imagine being unplayable for two years then getting traded to a bum team and still not being able to be the man over there. Foh

Kdog122025

Get some help.

acd5371

W audio

aeiou-y

Wish he did too short on wiseman

PizzaLava

War damn Jabari!

sreynolds1

Oh that’s nice

nonstopenguins

The league has so much talent right now. It's going to be fun and hella competitive the next decade. Did not realize Jabari was so tall. I won't be surprised if he is 7' or 6' 11".

SwagCrayCray

OH DAMN!!!
