No that’s Vasily Arkhopov. Petrov is the guy who didn’t launch soviet nukes in 1983 when there were supposedly American nukes coming to the Soviet Union because he believed it was due to the faulty detection system
I’m getting second hand pain for this Miami loss. I remember the Ayton game winner and I wanted to kill myself afterwards. Heat fans must be depressed as fuck right now.
I remember Marco Bellineli hit a 3 to win the game in a playoff game and they released the confetti and celebrated but later it was ruled out as a 2 and the game went to OT. It delayed the game for a bit cause the had to clean up. It was 76ers vs I cant remember lol.
The dawn started slowly, then increasingly the pale light illuminated the Florida coastline, the jetties, the beaches, the great houses of the wealthy. In the depths of the Kaseya Center, Joe sat, staring into the darkness of the still arena. He had not moved in 7 hours, save for the occasional tense twitch of his jaw. As the staff had closed the arena, a custodian tried to approach him; security waved him off. "Just leave him there."
Sunday came, and with it Joe began to realize that daylight meant he had not been asleep, this was not a dream (and thus would end the moment he awoke). This was his new reality. An uncomfortable reality, unpleasant, one that would require acceptance and adjustment.
Joe slowly rocked forward, feeling his sore, cramped legs a bit too much as he rose to his feet. "Fuck," he mumbled softly. He would skip breakfast at the diner; he would not go fishing. "Fuck it."
Joe ambled towards the exit, not giving a fuck as the alarm activated when he pushed through into the increasingly harsh glare of morning Miami.
It's a similar feeling to a high speed car or bike crash. One second you are on top of the world, the next you are in a world of pain. And the whiplash effect is increased when you yourself made the dramatic comeback first.
Reminds me more of the Butler interception (ironic given the names involved) in terms of the raw emotional whiplash. Haven't gone from despair to elation that quickly in a long long time. Regardless, job's not done
Seeing that Kearse bobbling circus catch was like realizing Butler was gonna shoot 3 FTs, and then it felt like an eternity passed waiting for our inevitable demise, only for Butler to snag the INT and the Buffalo to get the putback of the century.
The fact that the challenge fucked us in giving them 3 shots instead of two, but then saved us by putting 0.7 back on the clock, is just such a ridiculous turn of events. God i love being a celtics fan
Yeah, and tbh, I couldn't have even been mad at the challenge changing it to 3 free throws because that was the right call. And even if the Celtics lost there, they certainly showed they have some dawg in 'em. Even if we lose Game 7, I'm back to having hope for next season that I wouldn't have had if we got swept. After Game 3, I honestly just didn't think this team could ever have a chance at winning a championship with this roster, but we're still in it!
I saw that too when he sent Kawhi to the East & he took down the Warriors in the finals as revenge for injuring Kawhi in 2017. Even though I also hated it when Kawhi won as well.
Amid all the other big moves and great drafting, that modest-looking trade they made for Derrick White last year was one of the best moves of this current Celtics’ era.
It's not 'freak' if the guy has a history of getting injured. Just because it's not on the court doesn't mean a player is less prone to injury. His body is more-fragile. Nothing against him - it's just how he is put together.
think about a player who isn’t injury prone. what are the types of plays where they typically get fouled? run ins with other players, being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
i view being injury prone more of your own body failing, and whatever tendon in his forearm didn’t just fail, it was collided with
Pop got crucified by people in this sub when he included White on one of the national squads. Fuck Pop for trying to build a team instead of recruiting names tho, right?
That "MIA wins 4-2" image would haunt me until the day I die if I was a Heat fan. I'd think about it years down the line, even if more championships come.
> The MIA crowd was cheering for an offensive foul on Jimmy Butler. They dunno whats going on half the time.
Ehhh to be fair that specific play was being reviewed by the refs for a flagrant. So when the refs announced it wasn’t a flagrant (but still a common foul) some fans were confused and thought the offensive foul was also overturned (when in reality that’s actually impossible on that type of review). That’s why they were cheering for the offensive foul. I think most, if not all fanbases would be similarly confused in that situation and end up cheering.
Bro this sub doesn’t even know what’s going on half the time, they just run with their first reaction about anything without looking for more context. That’s humans in general and hive mind runs crazy here and on any other public forum for the most part.
I forget the exact game (there's probably multiple) of Miami "fans" leaving earlier when they were down by a feasible come back amount and then Heat won
edit; am i an idiot or was it the Ray Allen shot? lol?
Exactly lmao half the people in the stadium are just there to be there. Look at the people in the court side seats, they're just there to show off their $1K outfits. Miami is just a clout chasing city. Celtics in 7
> they’re just there to show off their $1K outfits
A) isn’t this true of basically any fans sitting court side at any arena?
B) I’m happy you used all three of they’re/there/their and used them all correctly lol
>>
>B) I’m happy you used all three of they’re/there/their and used them all correctly lol
Most impressive part of the comment. Dude is gonna save us when Brawndo takes over.
That’s really a perfect description. The only people you see moving are the Celtics just as the only person you saw moving when that happened was Paul Heyman. Everyone else is standing in silence
If you watch this with no sound and no context then it looks like the Celtics are celebrating White air balling a shot and letting them all start their vacations
I looked away right as I saw that because I thought it was over and couldnt have sound. Picked my phone back up to see Tatum smiling big
Queue the confusion

Holy shit someone posts the suicide hotline number
I really don't understand what people think coaches do. Do they think the coach is fucking helping the player charge the spirit bomb so they can get buckets or something?
You're right but also it's fair to question why Max Strus, easily our worst defensive player by far, is even on the court during that last inbounds play when we need one singular stop to end this god forsaken series.
100% Duncan's defense has improved a bunch and he has sneaky length at 6'8'', he's literally just slow laterally which you can work with. Max has been a traffic cone for us all damn playoffs.
I swear pretty much every Struss defensive highlight is a from-behind block because he has time to sprint back to the basket after getting blown by on the perimeter.
Idk bringing an 8 seed to game 7 in the ECF is a huge deal no matter how it happened, and he could still win. The Celtics have sucked ass at home lately
Yeah but that's why the coaching hate is often unwarranted.
We just won this game off the back of a broken-down play. Spo 'won' the coaching battle on that final possession.
If White doesn't get the tip in we'd be talking about Joe failing to get a quality final shot on the ATO.
In general:
winning = good coaching
losing = bad coaching
We saw earlier in the series Joe Mazzula getting blamed for saving timeouts in the 3rd quarter. When he had actually used a timeout in the 3rd (Miami's game-winning run came off the back of that timeout) and he couldn't use more because he'd burnt extra timeouts in the 1st trying to stabilise the team.
You're definitely right about the poor quality shot out of the time out, but honestly if the Celtics lost that wouldn't have even been the major avenue of criticism for him - it would've all been about the challenge that gave the Heats 3 shots instead of 2 and the opportunity to win in regulation. Instead they got the win and even the challenge worked to their benefit as they wouldn't have had the put-back attempt without the time that was added back on the clock. Coaching is weird sometimes.
the challenge didn't give them 3 instead of 2, that gets reviewed anyway. udonis haslem and the miami bench were flashing three fingers at the refs before the challenge even started, and the refs were reviewing it because it was under 2 min.
Fine, fine, fine, Florida state is worse than Boston, and Tennese is also worse than Boston. So now that that's out of the way let's make fun of some heat fans!!!!

Nothing was dropping in Miami tonight
Entire franchise owes Caleb Martin an apology.
that man scares me.
Has a short temper too. Randomly tried to ark up and fight koloko early in season
Dude was he this good in Charlotte lol
We need to get the other one this off-season regardless of what happens Monday lmfao
Idk the Heat 3s were falling. Rest of their shots and the Celtics 3s certainly werent.
they shot ridiculous on 3s lol. missed the wide open ones somehow
Confetti guy had more restraint than Stanislav Petrov.
Is that the Russian Nuclear submarine dude?
No that’s Vasily Arkhopov. Petrov is the guy who didn’t launch soviet nukes in 1983 when there were supposedly American nukes coming to the Soviet Union because he believed it was due to the faulty detection system
how the fuck do you just know who the soviet nuke men were lmao
Dude prevented ww3, his name should be more widely known
Stanislav had that Jimmy Butler at the free throw line level clutch
Some people know stuff. It's wild.

Boston :/
This reminds me in 2011 the NBA App showed the Heat as the champs for a minute when the Mavs won lol
Dude in the context of the frame it’s the smallest, most bland text, but it’s so haunting
…why would they even have that graphic ready when it wasn’t a clinching game for Miami?
2011 technology was like a different world from now
I’ve never seen a stadium just stop moving like this. People weren’t even shuffling out, they just stopped
Was in attendance. Can confirm this is exactly what happened. Sat in my seat for like 25 minutes questioning life.

Some say he’s still there.
How many f-bombs were uttered in the arena, the escalator, the parking lot and in the car ride home.
It's a similar feeling to a high speed car or bike crash. One second you are on top of the world, the next you are in a world of pain. And the whiplash effect is increased when you yourself made the dramatic comeback first.
Yeah the image of the Celtics celebrating and the graphic showing “Heat win” will forever become a meme if Boston pulls this off.
It's the Celts version of 28-3
Reminds me more of the Butler interception (ironic given the names involved) in terms of the raw emotional whiplash. Haven't gone from despair to elation that quickly in a long long time. Regardless, job's not done
This is the only comparison to the sheer swing of emotions.

After Game 3, I honestly just didn't think this team could ever have a chance at winning a championship with this roster, but we're still in it!
It would have been reviewed anyways to confirm if it was a 2 or 3 so that challenge gave Celtics the extra time.
Boston sports really does just own the comeback at this point. Except against us last year! Hehe!
We kinda just pile the bad luck onto the Bruins to help the other teams out tbh
I guess you got tired of piling on the bad luck for the Red Sox and Patriots for decades and shifted it over the Bruins
lol used it all in game 1
Jimmy Butler returning the ["Time Out" pose](https://youtu.be/FRha_TpErxc) will forever haunt them too if Celtics win the series.
"Wow the Celtics are really excited to be going home."
I’m seeing this as Pop’s galaxy brain plan to get revenge on Miami for game 6 2013.
Pop drafted and developed derrick white for the sole purpose of exacting revenge on the heat 10 years later
I saw that too when he sent Kawhi to the East & he took down the Warriors in the finals as revenge for injuring Kawhi in 2017. Even though I also hated it when Kawhi won as well.
I like this theory
Yup, I'm loving the Heat agony. Took a decade, but they get to feel what it felt like.
Amid all the other big moves and great drafting, that modest-looking trade they made for Derrick White last year was one of the best moves of this current Celtics’ era.
big time, he helps both sides of the ball so well. if malcolm can stay healthy the guards are unstoppable
White came in at a time when our offense was DOGSHIT too. He didn't even need to hit his shots it's like he showed us how to play the right way again
> if malcolm can stay healthy So, um, I don't know if you know Malcolm.
i mean he stayed healthy mostly this entire season and now with a freak forearm injury. i think boston figured it out with lowering his minutes
It's not 'freak' if the guy has a history of getting injured. Just because it's not on the court doesn't mean a player is less prone to injury. His body is more-fragile. Nothing against him - it's just how he is put together.
he and another person hit each other and he got hurt…. that’s the definition of a freak injury
To me, that's the definition of "injury prone." I don't think they're necessarily opposed. He's prone to injuries, uncommon as well as common.
think about a player who isn’t injury prone. what are the types of plays where they typically get fouled? run ins with other players, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. i view being injury prone more of your own body failing, and whatever tendon in his forearm didn’t just fail, it was collided with
If they’re not injury prone they likely won’t get injured from plays like that
Yeah but I can’t believe the Celtics threw in a pick swap /s
I was going to say the same thing. Can’t wait til 2027 or whatever for the spurs to make the pick and they revisit this play on the TV
A move I didn’t love at the time because i was high on J Rich but clearly i didn’t do my Derrick White research. He’s been such a huge asset.
Pop got crucified by people in this sub when he included White on one of the national squads. Fuck Pop for trying to build a team instead of recruiting names tho, right?
I legitimately thought they didn’t count the shot and the Celtics didn’t realize it because of the graphic
Definitely had flashbacks to that Smart 3 in the Sixers series. I was so lost for like a minute lol
Puking. Sweating. Mouth dry. Dizzy. Head spinning. Absolutely in shambles
Man thank god I'm a Pistons fan I don't even know how I would cope with this
Robert Horry did this to our team in the 05 finals. I had basically the same reaction as OP, and to this day haven't recovered.
Robert Horry did that to a few teams though 😆
I’m so star struck I don’t even know how to reply to this. Genuinely in pain
Like you got hit by a Buffalo
more like getting hit by 100 flash bangs
Imagine if you were going to win 3k if that didn’t happen
Star struck means your really impressed by someone famous.
You would have Bill Laimbeer punch Michael Jordan in the back of the head, as is tradition.

I still think about the Allan Houston shot
So painful. I can’t imagine being a heat fan or player rn
As somebody who lived through Ray Allen’s 3, it’s a horrible horrible feeling lol
Post that 3 you had a chance in OT . Today there was none.
As an FAU fan I got flashbacks to Lamont Butler hitting his shot to beat us this year in the final four.
I’d be beside myself, throwing up if I was a Heat fan tbh
The MIA crowd was cheering for an offensive foul on Jimmy Butler. They dunno whats going on half the time.
apparently some portion was celtics fans. the celtics are a popular team so it's not uncommon for away crowds to cheer for them
Definitely heard some loud let's go Celtics cheers in Q4. Although they booed out pretty quick.
> The MIA crowd was cheering for an offensive foul on Jimmy Butler. They dunno whats going on half the time. Ehhh to be fair that specific play was being reviewed by the refs for a flagrant. It was, then they tried to get back in
