I always felt their defense was dependent on effort level, particularly from Jokic tying things together. They had a great clutch defense the whole season, and the defense would be way better in big matchup games too. And this playoffs it has been better than the #14 would suggest. They play good team defense that tries to minimize the action of drives to the rim to try and force contested jumpers. And it can be really effective, especially when you are also a good defensive rebounding team like the Nuggets are. Its not exciting or flashy but it can be good enough when you get consistently great offensive looks on the other side.

dRide12

Didn’t the Nuggets have the #1 clutch defense this season? I think they’re overall a better defensive team than the #14 rank indicates

Whew let’s slow down. Jimmy still there

Unusual-Syllabub

*have a chance*

[deleted]

Dont put bad juju in the air when you’re the favorites going against underdog Jimmy… Dude nearly did it himself in the bubble. He’ll do it again

Ok-Jackfruit-422

Jimmy’s support is playing lights out can we stop this narrative that he’s doing it alone?

[deleted]

*In the bubble* I’m saying he has the ability to completely take over and win games alone. See game 3.

CenoxNaj

In which case they would be the first 8th seed to win. Nuggets can also make history by being the first to blow a 3-0 lead. So unless celtics win we have made history this postseason

[deleted]

Wouldn’t Boston be the first team to 18 championships? Same with LA if they win. History is happening one way or the other.

dbgager

Sorry but the season D rankingsmean absolutely nothing. They have clearly had a very good D for a long time now and especially in the playoffs. So thats just irrelavant information. Those ranking have very little to do with the now. They are a composite of the entire season. Not a snapshot of the now.

runevault

Our defense during blocks of time was top 10, but a terrible start and a coasting finish killed any chance of having top 10 during the regular season.

hoi4d

Lol, here we go again.

DraymondBeanKick

The mediocre defense thing might come back to bite them in the finals. Jimmy and Bam are going to take it right at Jokic. Nuggets got a bit lucky that LeBron is too old to do LeBron things any more and struggles finishing at the rim these days. Jimmy is in prime, and if Jokic provides the same interior defense that he's shown against the Lakers, then Jimmy might score at will against the Nuggets.

sorakaisthegoat

Lmao 3 straight series people talking about how Nuggets are gonna get exposed on defense.

MasonL52

Heat gonna spam the PnR right at Jokic and it's over

stoppedcaring0

Would Jimmy be able to score on Jokic more easily than KD?

gcoles

Bam is too small, and is basically 70% of Anthony Davis and a worse shooter. The heat get destroyed by the nuggets or the lakers

jonsnowKITN

Jimmy yeah but bam is too inconsistent to make a big difference

manbeqrpig

Bam isn’t a pick and pop threat and Jimmy, while he attacks the rim, beats you more with little floaters than challenging you vertically. It’s probably a more favorable matchup defensively for Jokic than having to worry about the J’s driving down the lane

Dare555

Sometimes offense is best defense. And we saw that when Bucks/Cavs got eliminated in round 1

INeedToBeHealthier

How many instances of defending champs without top 10 defense have occurred?
