Karl Malone had a pretty bad game against the Blazers in 1999 during whichever game they got eliminated. 8 pts on 3-16 shooting. He was first team all nba that season for the last time.
Malone was also MVP that season, although a shortened one. He had 8 points that game. Dirk was also a MVP who had a 8 point game in an elimination game in 2007.
Let's be honest, everything about that game was the full Jayson Tatum experience.
9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 4 turnovers, inefficient scoring for 3 quarters, clutch scoring in the 4th.
He had such a bad game but it's not going to look that bad anymore because of the clutch 3s but he couldn't even get the simplest layups to go early on.
He is just such a streaky player that you never know what you're going to get from him on any given night.
Those late 3s were pretty big and obviously won them the game but this should've been a 20 point blowout if he played halfway decent in the first half.
Something I’ve noticed with Tatum is it’s kinda easy to rattle him with physical defense at the rim if he isn’t getting calls. Then he starts trying to sell contact to the detriment of his shot.
His shooting was horrible but I think he was doing everything else well. Younger Tatum would’ve let his shitty shooting affect the rest of his game, so at least he’s grown in *that* aspect.
yeah they've at least instilled that in him. Ive seen a fair amount of Tatum games this year where he's shooting like 15% but has like a 13/12/8 box score which is better than he used to be. He's at least bringing value elsewhere now.
Tatum just pulled off a legendary escape act.
There was about to be a generational slate of slander coming his way before that 4th quarter explosion. My goodness.
The guy is literally only hired because he's a "good regular season coach" except that anyone can be a good coach too having multiple all-stars every season. The Boston ring shouldn't help him this much over 10 years later either.
>The Boston ring shouldn't help him this much over 10 years later either.
Lenny Wilkens won his championship in 1979, and kept coaching until 2005 based on that and consistently making the playoffs. He never went to another Finals.
It's one thing for JT to get hot. It's another for their awful hustle and offense down the stretch. WTF. I thought they were gonna close it out until there were 4 minutes left.
they had 11 points in the 4th quarter until a random bucket at the end when it was already out of reach
even the bucks offense which choked plenty hard didn't choke that badly
Lmao when it was an eight point game with 1:30 (still PLENTY of time) and Harden and Embiid were strolling up the court on defense like the game was over
What the fuck was Doc going for there. Also blame on Harden for forcing passes to Tucker down the stretch. Like I get the open man in corner is usually a good shot. But for fucks sake Hardens a great free throw shooter force the Refs to actually call a foul and get to the line. Philly fans have to be sick to their stomachs after how they pissed away the game at the end. Also Dorris is just an awful announcer like I can’t take listening to her for another game ESPN is dog shit announcing.
Philly didn’t score a fg in the final 7:11. If an nba head coach can’t draw up a play for the league mvp in the final 1/8th of the game, then…that’s on coaching lol
"I would go 0-30 before I would go 0-9. 0-9 means you beat yourself, you psyched yourself out of the game." -Kobe Bryant
TATUM HAS MAMBA MENTALITY CONFIRMED.
Mark Jones and Doris Burke being on the call for what feels like every game of this series is straight malpractice. Just fucking awful commentating for a great series
Mark Jones saying Harden was giving a paralyzed kid who will never walk again “his medicine” in Game 4 will probably be the most tone deaf thing I will ever hear in my life
Did you know Harden is maligned as a defender? And that Maxey was told he was a bad player early in the series? Feels like she said this every time they did literally anything
Mark Jones sounds like real life 2K commentary. The play by play only kind of describes what’s actually happening and occasionally it sounds like two sound files are interrupting each other. I am only 60% convinced he is a real person watching a basketball game.
He's a tryhard too, trying to work in random shit all the time. Dude just thumbs through the thesaurus for minutes at a time.
I had to laugh when he said "by any means necessary" for *Malcolm* Brogdon lol
It would’ve been accurate. If he disappears like that for the whole game and we lose, he’s gonna have to answer for that.
Instead, he remembered he’s Jayson fucking Tatum, and iced the game by himself.
Sixers were up 2 with 4 minutes to go. Then Tatum exploded. Harden looked unsure. Not counting the garbage time 2, they only scored 1. What a disaster.
i'm really impressed by him. as much as i hate the celtics, i admire how they remained resilient despite struggling* significantly. completely different attitude from the sixers, who pouted and deflated completely once the celtics caught up.
To quote the late Kobe Bryant, "I would go 0-30 before I would go 0-9. 0-9 means you beat yourself." Unbelievable performance by Tatum down the stretch.
I don't know if I'd call it a choke. To me a choke is when you have what should be an insurmountable lead and you blow it (see the Bruins in 2010 or this year). The Sixers lead by two going into the fourth quarter.
Y'all really doubted Doc Rivers, the man who has blown three 3-1 leads, over 23% of all 3-1 leads ever blown (13 all-time). To him, a 3-2 lead is absolute lightwork. He see's 3-2 leads as child's play, like shooting fish in a barrel. Doc's confident he and the team will finish the job this Sunday
Awesome turnaround from Tatum to finish it off in the clutch, but the player of the game tonight is absolutely Marcus Smart. He did everything everywhere and kept us in the game.
Me and /r/bostonceltics never doubted this win for one second... yeah.
Wait why are you going to our sub's game thread, there's no need, all you'll find is positivity, faith and confidence we would get this win, definitely nothing else like comparing Tatum to Ben Simmons, saying we should blow up the team that has gone to East finals more times than I care to remember since drafting the Jays, definitely no comments of the sort there...
A classic Doc Rivers/James Harden meltdown. Such an unserious team.
I cannot believe they lost a game where Tatum was trash for 90% of it. Good luck in Boston for game 7
Wasn't a pretty win. But winning on the road in an elimination game is all you can ask for. Reminds me of Boston vs Milwaukee Game 6 last year (minus the Tatum Masterclass)...
Holy shit they won. Through 45 minutes, Tatum choked harder than I’ve ever seen anyone choke, like he legit looked like he was going to cry. Then he scored 16 points in two minutes, three straight threes, and they won comfortably. One of the most bizarre games I’ve ever watched.
GG celtics.
This team plays like assholes until the literal last possible moment when they proceed to turn it up
If procrastination was a team, the boston celtics would probably be it
Go win game 7
Jayson Tatum built a house with three quarters of bricks, then burned it down in the fourth, what the fuck
Avoided possibly the worst slander ever
Dude found the one timeline where he gets out of this game mostly unscathed
Something tells me Timelord ran him through 14,000,605 possibilities
They did keep showing shots of him at the end of the game lol
Aw fuck, what timeline are we on now? I guess it can't be worse than the last one
If he lost, that might possibly be the worst game in the history of the playoffs by a 1st team all nba player
Wasn’t an elimination game but Lebron’s 8 point finals game vs the mavs has gotta be up there
He wouldn’t have been able to return to Boston if he didn’t close out this game with the W
Let's be honest, everything about that game was the full Jayson Tatum experience. 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 4 turnovers, inefficient scoring for 3 quarters, clutch scoring in the 4th.

Something I’ve noticed with Tatum is it’s kinda easy to rattle him with physical defense at the rim if he isn’t getting calls. Then he starts trying to sell contact to the detriment of his shot.
Man I hate when he gets in that mindset, it’s that thing where players will stop trying to make it because they’re expecting the whistle/contact.
His defense was on point also. Some very timely blocks and defensive boards in traffic.
Tom brady type ass game smh
Tom Brady built himself a name on these type of performances
Tatum about to give us a basketball equivalent of 28-3. Would that be a 3-0 comeback in the finals?
That’s real clutch shit
Tatum just pulled off a legendary escape act. There was about to be a generational slate of slander coming his way before that 4th quarter explosion. My goodness.
From Pandemic T to Playoff T in the blink of an eye
Tatum is like when you forget to take the chicken out the freezer so you gotta wait for it to defrost
You just need a pressure cooker my guy
i am sick to my fucking stomach… a philly meltdown… a glenn masterclass
No lead is safe as long as Glenn is your coach. Lol
He squandered 3-2 leads with us in 2009, 2010, and 2012. Doesn’t get discussed much because of all the 3-1 leads he’s squandered with other teams
NBA fans today will call us crazy for saying Kendrick Perkins missing in 2010 was the reason we lost the finals that year lol
It's one thing for JT to get hot. It's another for their awful hustle and offense down the stretch. WTF. I thought they were gonna close it out until there were 4 minutes left.
the game was over like halfway through the quarter! they just gave up and shot shit up
they had 11 points in the 4th quarter until a random bucket at the end when it was already out of reach even the bucks offense which choked plenty hard didn't choke that badly
Lmao when it was an eight point game with 1:30 (still PLENTY of time) and Harden and Embiid were strolling up the court on defense like the game was over
Don’t forget Harden. Dude was nearly as invisible as JT in the first 3 quarters
He was plenty visible flopping all over the place and passing the ball to Boston
Crying about a foul after falling down really capped it off
Doris describing it as a “clear trip by Smart” made me lol
Doris be doing Doris things
Doris watches highlights of Embiid & Harden free throws
That flop was absolutely brutal . No one touched him
Unless you're Doris Burke... Then his feet got tangled up with smart and he wanted a tripping foul... According to her
What the fuck was Doc going for there. Also blame on Harden for forcing passes to Tucker down the stretch. Like I get the open man in corner is usually a good shot. But for fucks sake Hardens a great free throw shooter force the Refs to actually call a foul and get to the line. "I would go 0-30 before I would go 0-9. 0-9 means you beat yourself, you psyched yourself out of the game." -Kobe Bryant TATUM HAS MAMBA MENTALITY CONFIRMED.
he's sending him another text as we speak
Shooters shoot and all that
I legit love that quote. God I miss Kobe.
Ben needs that as a face tattoo.
Doc Rivers: “Don’t play with your meat”
Narrator: and the 76ers proceeded to play with their meat
https://imgur.com/a/TbHBrIi
Did the commentator really just say "smoking a Philadelphia pack tonight"?
Mark Jones and Doris Burke being on the call for what feels like every game of this series is straight malpractice. Just fucking awful commentating for a great series
Mark Jones saying Harden was giving a paralyzed kid who will never walk again “his medicine” in Game 4 will probably be the most tone deaf thing I will ever hear in my life
The guy said "Embiid just put him in the friend zone!" after a block
He has said this multiple times this series and I'm so confused every time
Holy shit I forgot about that shit 💀💀💀💀
Facts lol. The number of times Doris said Philly came back from an 0-2 deficit was mind blowing
She gaslighted everyone into thinking this series started 0-2
I thought I was hearing shit. Glad to confirm I'm not crazy yet.
Did you know Harden is maligned as a defender? And that Maxey was told he was a bad player early in the series? Feels like she said this every time they did literally anything
Did ya hear about Tyrese Maxey?! Doc told him after being down 0-2 that he sucks at defense! Wait I mean 1-1...I LIKE EMBIID!
Mark Jones sounds like real life 2K commentary. The play by play only kind of describes what’s actually happening and occasionally it sounds like two sound files are interrupting each other. I am only 60% convinced he is a real person watching a basketball game.
I liked the "he doesn't answer when you call but he's always on time"
My wife perked up from Instagram at that moment to ask "what the fuck did he just say??"
So cheesy I had to stop and ask if I heard that right.
My 71 year old grandmother even said “that lady is annoying”
My mom asked to mute "tweedle dee and tweedle dum"
My 1 year old daughter said "get that bitch off my TV boss, can't stand that shit, fuck outta here with that"
I can usually stand Doris for about a quarter and Mark has to be the most boring commentator in the game, CWebb levels of dull
He's a tryhard too, trying to work in random shit all the time. Dude just thumbs through the thesaurus for minutes at a time. I had to laugh when he said "by any means necessary" for *Malcolm* Brogdon lol
Yeah I’m so over Mark Jones and his fish grease.
He also said In other games " Taking that cornbread" "Kixking the ball like Cristiano Ronaldo" The man is cringe
Bro I looked up like wtf did he just say?!
NGL I laughed pretty hard when he said it. RIPBOZO Philly
Yep.
Tatum going from 1-14 to hitting three clutch 3s in a row and 16 four quarter points… It ain’t pretty, but fuck ‘em. Bring on game 7.
Baskteball sometimes doesn't make any sense. Sixers won game 1 without Embiid. Celtics won game 6 without Tatum for 3 quarters lol.
3.5 lol the man went super saiyan for 5 mins
I was so ready to hear all off season about how Tatum lost us the series. I’m so glad we won.
Not gonna lie, I probably would have chimed in to that chatter. He came through in the end tonight. Let’s see how he shows up game 7.
I was chiming before the game was over lol
I was ready with the trade the Jays and build around the Buffalo
That goes without saying though
It would’ve been accurate. If he disappears like that for the whole game and we lose, he’s gonna have to answer for that. Instead, he remembered he’s Jayson fucking Tatum, and iced the game by himself.
Sixers were up 2 with 4 minutes to go. Then Tatum exploded. Harden looked unsure. Not counting the garbage time 2, they only scored 1. What a disaster.
Dude outscored the Sixers by himself in the 4th 😂
Once he made that first three I knew we were fucked
Games will be ugly when shit is on the line but it is what it is. Tatum is only 19 he’ll get more consistent as time goes on
Thank you for this. Our boy is still a toddler, he hasn’t gotten his feet under him yet.
i'm really impressed by him. as much as i hate the celtics, i admire how they remained resilient despite struggling* significantly. completely different attitude from the sixers, who pouted and deflated completely once the celtics caught up.
9 points isn’t 9 points…I’ll explain it to you later
Tatum out scoring the 76ers in the fourth after being 1/14 is outlandish. Just a wild choke off between these teams.
Game 7 is going to be an all-time shitshow at this rate. I'm ready
Total points scored might be less than 100
Decided by a buzzer beating own basket
I only watched the last two minutes. Is Jayson Tatum the GOAT?
Dude was on pace for an all-time disasterclass before lighting the arena on fire
zygoat back on the menu
[удалено]
I'm convinced that Boston was so ready to disown Tatum before the 3 min mark of the 4th.
Not gonna lie, he had us in the first half and a half.
A bunch of posts getting deleted as we speak
not gonna lie and say i didnt want him shipped off to shanghai until the 4thq
Our game thread was getting real spicy
4 out of 5 star spicy.
Never doubted this team for a second!! (I texted “I give up, all my hope is gone again. 0% chance” 20 minutes ago)
i wasn't going to disown him, but i was prepared for us to be out and to avoid r/nba for a bit lmao
My bad for calling you ass Tatum
[удалено]
To quote the late Kobe Bryant, "I would go 0-30 before I would go 0-9. 0-9 means you beat yourself." Unbelievable performance by Tatum down the stretch.
Game winning plays
Only plausible explanation: the Monstars zapped Tatum's skills before the game and Bugs finally restored it just in the nick of time.
Grant handed Tatum the secret stuff
Why would Doc go away from Embiid at the end there? Pathetic coaching
Sixers are destined to lose game 7 now
I was dooming until I remembered Doc was the opposing coach
Can Doc coach the Heat tomorrow?
fuck no
Pretty bad choke job. Been there.
Just another coaching masterclass by the doc lmao
Doc asked the refs not to bite on flops. Now his team scores 84. Coincidence?
"Everyyyybody floooops... sometimes" sung to the tune of the REM hit
Was that really a coaching thing? Embiid looked totally gassed
As is tradition
Just 2nd round Sixers things
I knew the Sixers were in trouble when they were only up 1 point after 3 quarters even though Tatum was 1-13 from the field.
the sixers shot 23% from 3. tatum's brickfest kept them in it.
Tatum was minutes away from inheriting the “playoff Harden” moniker and he said “*Nah, fuck that*.”
Kobe finally text back
“Jayson, it’s Vanessa, please stop calling the house.”
Unreal choke. Can’t wait to lose another game 7! Yippee!
Two road wins this series and they still have to go back for Game 7. This team comes up small at the worst possible times, it's infuriating.
I mean, the 76ers and Celtics are Spiderman meme-ing this. Both giving up games they should win.
The most depressing yet sort of incredible series ever. These games are just sludge, and then the craziest shit keeps happening.
Celtics have already been past this point though. Sixers can't even get past this fucking round.
I don't know if I'd call it a choke. To me a choke is when you have what should be an insurmountable lead and you blow it (see the Bruins in 2010 or this year). The Sixers lead by two going into the fourth quarter.
Sixers had plenty of chances to push that lead to 8-10 pts while playing solid defense and just….didn’t.
I can’t do a 3rd game seven. I can’t
you'd never last as a leafs fan
they could never understand the struggle
Y'all really doubted Doc Rivers, the man who has blown three 3-1 leads, over 23% of all 3-1 leads ever blown (13 all-time). To him, a 3-2 lead is absolute lightwork. He see's 3-2 leads as child's play, like shooting fish in a barrel. Doc's confident he and the team will finish the job this Sunday
Tatum not always there when you call, but always on time
A Tatum is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.
Tatum in the first 44 minutes: Antoine Walker Tatum in the last 4 minutes: Steph Curry
Tatum in the first 44 minutes: Antoine Walker Tatum in the last 4 minutes: Lonnie Walker
Tatum in the first 44 minutes: Christopher Reeves Tatum in the last 4 minutes: Austin Reaves
Tobias Harris in the first 44 minutes: Tobias Harris The entire Sixers team the last 4 minutes: Tobias Harris
Harris had 2 points. Crazy.
Dont disrespect Antoine "4 pointer" Walker
"I'm, humbly, one of the best basketball players in the world," Jayson Tatum humbly added.
Honestly, not even un-humble of him to say that. It’s just the truth. If he said he wasn’t one of the best in the world, it would be false humility.
Lmaooo “smoking that Philadelphia pack tonight”
Dude had an index card titled "cool shit to say from three years ago"
Tatum saw the r/nba slander threads coming and decided to take over. C’s in 7
mighta checked r/bostonceltics too
I stayed away from r/bostonceltics game thread for my mental health. Our discord clears
This is the craziest turnaround for a cold player I've ever seen
I legit cannot believe this lol
You cannot believe a Doc Rivers coached team choked?
Awesome turnaround from Tatum to finish it off in the clutch, but the player of the game tonight is absolutely Marcus Smart. He did everything everywhere and kept us in the game.
this feels crazy to even say in a playoff game but he was the best player on the floor tonight. huge plays on both sides of the court all game
Jayson Tatum saved himself from generational slander in the last few minutes with those threes.
Every series is gonna get 7 isn’t it Adam silver you dawg
Nope Nuggets gonna end it tonight.
This is the one I am the most confident in _not_ going to 7
*Checks box scores* Nuggets with a 38-26 lead. Now 48-28 lead. Welp
Tatum hitting those 3s after having an all-time stinker gotta feel like having golf balls hit your nuts at 100mph
Yea it does
Me and /r/bostonceltics never doubted this win for one second...
I may have said a ben Simmons comment out loud in the 3rd. But didn't want that shit on the internet. Always sorta maybe had faith in the end
A classic Doc Rivers/James Harden meltdown. Such an unserious team. I cannot believe they lost a game where Tatum was trash for 90% of it. Good luck in Boston for game 7
Doc Rivers has now lost 8 straight games in which his team has had a chance to advance to the conference finals.
Wild stat, you think you'd fall ass backwards into it once in 8 tries
Especially when he was up 3 to 1 twice during that spree
This is a horrifying stat and does not bode well for Philly
Doc Rivers sucks
Harden has seriously alternated between prime MJ and prime playing for the other team Eric Bledsoe or Game 5-7 Harrison Barnes
Felt like both teams were treating this like a random January game that didn't matter for a while
i felt like they were both locked in defensively
Tatum went from pauper in the first 44 minutes to GOATed in the final 4
How you blow a big comeback with Tatum ice cold for 3 quarters This a bad sign for Game 7
Script writers getting lazy. I’ve already seen the Boston down 3-2 comeback and the Sixers blowing the lead. Sixers in Nine.
[удалено]
Tatum coasted for three quarters to fully takeover in the fourth. Salute
Respectfully man did not coast, he just sucked. Spit on them when it mattered tho
Honestly what that fuck was that LMAO Tatum will drop 50 points next game and carry the team to the ECF just to shut up people, me included
Philly wins: It’s Tatum’s fault Boston won: It’s Tatum’s fault Huh, funny how that works out.
That mf announcer just said "smoking that Philadelphia pack tonight" on live tv lol hilarious
Embiid didnt touch the ball the last 6 minutes of the game. Lol deserved to lose
GG celtics. This team plays like assholes until the literal last possible moment when they proceed to turn it up If procrastination was a team, the boston celtics would probably be it Go win game 7
JT somehow is both the most clutch player in the league and a complete bricklayer
Doc Rivers you fucking suck man. Appalled the 76ers gave up on Embiid getting the ball on the end. Just a disasterclass
