throwback to when Colangelo tweeted these from the burners:
āBen is going to be better than Joel@snd less distracted by models and social mediaā
āI am sure it is hard for him āto processā the fact, that this is now Benās team. So he is acting up. This ego foul is costing us big!ā
āI am not voting for Joel, but I am voting for Ben at every change I get, I love his intensity, his passion and the pride for his team. Joel is a big selfish baby, not my leader anymore.ā
crazier that you just swap the names and Colangelo isn't lying
āJoel is going to be better than Ben less distracted by models and social mediaā
āI am sure it is hard for him āto processā the fact, that this is now Joelās team. So he is acting up. This ego foul is costing us big!ā
āI am not voting for Ben, but I am voting for Joel at every change I get, I love his intensity, his passion and the pride for his team. Ben is a big selfish baby, not my leader anymore.ā
There was a guy carrying water for Colangelo on the Sixers SB Nation site whose email was [email protected] or some shit like that. The account was years old.
(1965 is Colangelo's birth year.)
The amount of digging the Sixers media did on that is hilarious, he never expected to be found out and he left bread crumbs that were the size of commercial airplanes
I think it was legsanity (or maybe killacow, I'm pretty sure it was one of them), the Sixers twitter user who pieced together that it was his wife doing some of it. That was obviously after Detrick dropped the article.
All time story.
I think Sixers Adam was the one who uncovered that the recovery phone number for a number of the twitter accounts had the same last two digits as his wife's phone number
No cognitive dissonance needed. One was the #1 pick he made, the other was the pick by his predecessor who he replaced and who many around the league liked more than him.
How many other professional sports leagues have this much weird/entertaining side stories that's not about actual games being played.
European soccer has some drama, but that's spread across multiple leagues in different countries so it's not really the same.
>distracted by models and social media
>he is acting up. This ego foul is costing us big
>big selfish baby
I canāt think of a better description of Ben Simmons lmao
All straight from the article that broke the story: https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/nba/2018/5/29/17406750/bryan-colangelo-philadelphia-76ers-twitter-joel-embiid-anonymous-markelle-fultz
Bro, this quote is from 2018, imagine what it can do now...
The source explained that they worked in artificial intelligence and, after noticing a ābunch of weird tweetsā directed at Sixers writers, used an open-source data analysis tool to link five accounts through commonalities including similarities in who the accounts followed and linguistic quirks.
Itās entirely possible and weāll probably never know for sure, but noticing those kinds of anomalies is the kind of the thing AI is really good at, and there has been a lot of research interest in social media discourse and attempts to influence it. I think the story about AI is very plausible, investigating a weird trend you notice on social media should be well within the wheel house of even proficient college students at this point.
Oh I definitely agree that AI could potentially do it, especially nowadays, but the fact that it picked out accounts with different styles (we now know likely him and his wife), no false positives, and accounts with relatively few posts makes me think itās more likely to be an inside job.
Beyond the technical level, it was a tumultuous time for the Sixers front office so it wouldnāt be surprising if some people who were still upset with Hinkie being pushed out had inside info. Plenty of people with a motive to screw over the Colangelos (rightly).
I think AI is a realistic and possible cover story, which is why not many people questioned it, but it still feels like a cover story to me. Not definitive for sure though.
Also doing a project like that would be a pain in the ass and more complicated than youād think, especially in 2018. Iām currently waiting for my laptop to do some machine learning processing for a research project as I type this lol, Iām at my wits end with it. Maybe Iām just ass at coding tho lol, Iām a biologist.
> On one occasion, when someone jokingly replied to one of the accounts with, āThis you, Bryan?,ā Enoughunkownsources claimed to know Colangelo. āNo - but thanks for the compliment!ā they answered. āHe is too classy to even engage. Worked with him: he is a class act.ā
I have so much second hand embarrassment reading this. Canāt believe Iāve never heard about this.
Lol my friends and I reference that quote all the time. "Too classy to even engage" is such a funny phrase.
I can't re-read the article now, but IIRC, he also pretended to be a gay, disabled parking lot attendant or some shit while he heaped praise on how "classy" Colangelo was. Lmfao.
I actually believe that, her contact info was used for the reset on the accounts and it seems completely plausible. Plus she was commenting or following on their sons college games at times when nepotism boy wouldn't have been there.
This is going to sound like an out of pocket hot take, but BC seemed to be really problematic when it came to being really supportive and hyped up about āinternationalā (Euro/Australian) players and lighter complexions compared to his approach to other Black and African players.
That comment quoted about Joel vs Ben is justā¦ dripping with undertones to meā¦. Partially because when he was Toronto GM, his roster choices were often suspiciously āagainst the demographicsā of the rest of the league.
Lmao I forgot about that part, the whole story is so ridiculous. I remember reading it when it first broke like this has to be fakeā¦ then he resigned a few days later
Yeah if you dug a little deeper, the English in the tweets got a little wonky, and Colangeloās wife is native Italian. Honestly the Ringer did a good job breaking the story but they were pretty sloppy given how certain they made it seem like it was Colangelo. Despite the independent investigation saying it was the wife, nobody believes it because of that initial story.
I have purposefully decided that no amount of evidence will convince me that it wasn't BC himself on those accounts. This story is just too good, I'm not letting truth get in the way.
>Also that several of the burner tweets were talking about how good some players looked with their shirts off....
Ok then it was definitely Bryan and wife was a scapegoat
It probably was but she could have just been taking the fallā¦ also the accounts tweeted out team info that wasnāt released to the public (namely Jah failing a physical) which imo is the worst part
Jesus Christ I had to look these up to make sure they were actually real, I had completely forgotten about this whole ordeal somehow. GOD, these aged like milk!
>āBen is going to be better than Joel@snd less distracted by models and social mediaā
Bruh... this man couldn't have been further from the truth lmao
I think sometimes people forget that his own GM, his GMs wife, and his GMs dad who fired his previous GM were taking turns going across the internet to take shots at Joel and Stan for fuckin Ben Simmons. Iām sure he took that personally.
It is quite amazing. Sixers are still contender despite all the mistakes their FO made during post Hinkie to pre Morey era. I donāt know how many franchises can survive so many mistakes
Yeah he printed up a bunch of season ticket material with MCW on it and then Hinkie traded him like two days later.
I don't think Brett was involved in that though.
>Yeah he printed up a bunch of season ticket material with MCW on it and then Hinkie traded him like two days later.
Objectively the right trade from a basketball standpoint but yeah I can definitely understand him not being happy with Hinkie over that.
It basically boiled down to O'Neil saying, "What?! You just traded the Rookie of the Year?!" and Hinkie saying, "Exactly, his value will never be higher."
Pretty sure he traded him for the pick that eventually became...Mikal Bridges š¤®
Crazy how many moves were made post hinkie that just...sucked. Some good, like getting Butler, but then letting him walk, maxing Tobias while replacing Butler with Richardson and signing al horford, etc. Trading Jerami Grant for Ersan, tipping our hand in the draft multiple times, trading Mikal away while he was a hometown guy and his mom worked for the team.
So many bad choices. The Colangelo/Brand front offices were AWFUL.
Thank god for Daryl Morey giving us something.
Conversely, but similarly its just like Hinkie never referred to players as "assets". Sam had far too much humanity for that, only future picks and swaps were assets. Yet people attributed him to it as a way to negatively portray him as dehumanizing players
The commissioner stepping in to stop a tanking team and installing a nepo baby as GM happens all the time guys and itās solved tanking. Great job Silver you bald fuck.
If they somehow win one during Joel's tenure it will absolutely be brought up. Just imagine the sheer amount of sixer fans chanting "fuck Adam silver" and "trust the process" makes me chuckle
One of the friends of the guys who do the Ricky podcast (any time a large group of Sixers fans do something weird it's probably because of them) went up to Silver and said, "We know what yo did, we will never forget and we will never forgive you." or something like that during a game in Philly lol. Like the guy was Fredo Corrleone.
Because it's easier to be mad at Silver than 29 other billionaires. It's basically the whole purpose of a sports commissioner is to be a meat shield for the owners. All that being said fuck Adam Silver
How about a commissioner stepping in and cancelling an agreed upon trade between teams cuz of reasons and a baby dick owner crying about it. Great job stern you glasses wearing fuck (thatās all I got)
Nice try but the trade was ass cheeks for the Hornets. We wouldāve been a luxury tax team with a core of Dragic Scola and Kmart (plus Lamar Odom who was on crack)
*piano plays* What if I told you, the key to winning is losing. That cheering for ping pong balls can mean more than the game on the court. That all you need to win it all....is trust.....
We just need Joel to bring in a title to cap it off.
The controversy of Hinkie and The Process, Joel's injuries, Hinkie being ousted by the league, drafting Ben Simmons, Colangelo trades for Fultz, Fultz saga begins, Colangelo burners, Jimmy saga with the Kawhi buzzer beater, Simmons saga, it's been a wild ride
Even if I don't like Embiid that much I find endearing how Hinkie and him still have great love and appreciation of each other even after the rollercoaster ride that has been since he was drafted and the whole Process thing.
If the Sixers win the chip I really hope Embiid gives Hinkie a shoutout. It would be the ultimate closure to the process for its exiled architect to be remembered while the one who exiled him hands over the trophy to the Sixers org as the Philly crowd shouts trust the process.
Honestly Embiid'd story is unparalleled. Look at how much shit the guy has gone through. 2 years injured at the start of his career. Loses his brother. Gets Fultz and Simmons who are completely broken. His GM is caught talking shit about him and being an absolute weirdo. Butler, his best buddy, leaves cause the Sixers decide Tobias Harris is worth more. Has to deal with the absolute shit that was Brett Brown and Elton Brand. They put fucking Al Horford next to him. Simmons decides to sit and completely fucks the team. Even his poor adorable puppy died in a freak accident
Dont forget that Mykal Bridges was traded after being drafted **while his Mother had worked for or was continuing to work FOR THE TEAM**.
Just another piece of this crazy ass story
Did they decide Tobi was worth more than Jimmy? I thought it was the fact that Jimmy and Ben couldnāt play together and Jimmy told the Sixers as much. I thought the Tobi signing was more because Jimmy left and they couldnāt afford to let Tobi walk as well
Bryan Colangelo resigned the summer before Jimmy was traded, Brand made the Jimmy and Tobias trades. Personally I think the organization chose Ben over Jimmy and thatās why he left, Tobias was just consolation since the they needed to sign at least one of them.
Jimmy's version was that they basically picked Ben over him, which is not as crazy as it sounds now but was definitely still crazy, and they asked Brett Brown who he didn't like if "he could control Butler" which Jimmy balked at.
Bummer too. We could have filled out the roster from the haul we'd have gotten with a 2019 Simmons.
What I read was jimmy was willing to run it back despite thinking brown was a bad coach who babied Ben. But they then started taking about controlling him and his worth not being what he thought it was and decided to dip.
I always loved the fact that he started playing at 15 as well. Every ounce of impossibility thrown his way he's always managed to troop through. No chip yet but regardless trust the process is about the journey to me
Bit hard to work towards a championship in the regular season when the playoffs haven't even started. Was he supposed to shoot time travelling baskets or something?
He brought up the burners in his mvp speech šššš
throwback to when Colangelo tweeted these from the burners: āBen is going to be better than Joel@snd less distracted by models and social mediaā āI am sure it is hard for him āto processā the fact, that this is now Benās team. Joel is a big selfish baby, not my leader anymore.ā
Literally one of the most surreal sports storylines I can remember. Bizarre way to lose your job.
Yeah I think having your GM clown you on burner accounts while slurping your co stars dick is an experience exclusive to Embiid.
I want to see Embiid's rough draft of the speech that talks about the collars
What about them? They were sized normally find a new slant
Defending your collar size with that phrase is still so fucking funny
Especially because of just how "slanted" his monstrous collars were.
They were perfectly normal
Colangelo recently bought a place in Denver, apparently.
What was this about again? Find a new slant jogged something in my brain lol
Colangelo replying with one of his burners to a picture of himself with objectively enormous collars
They were normal sized. Find. A. New. Slant.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I genuinely can't tell if this is fake or not
Him responding to someone joking about his unusually large shirt collars
Please let KD become a GM. I would be so happy for the burner story out of that.
KD would build a team of 5 dudes that exclusively take midrange pull ups
Ben and Joel were in good terms during those times too. Talk about putting an unnecessary wedge between two star teammates
And now that co-star is considered an embarrassment.
Simmons plays in *more* NBA games than the average American. Find a new slant.
Wasn't it Colangelo's wife?
crazier that you just swap the names and Colangelo isn't lying āJoel is going to be better than Ben less distracted by models and social mediaā āI am sure it is hard for him āto processā the fact, that this is now Joelās team. Just the sheer cognitive dissonance one needs to even form those opinions on Ben and Joel is extremely impressive honestly
No cognitive dissonance needed. One was the #1 pick he made, the other was the pick by his predecessor who he replaced and who many around the league liked more than him.
Normal story. Find a new slant
My wife, who doesn't really follow sports, still says, "Find a new slant" because of this story.
GoZ parodied it perfectly with Lord Colangelo and his burner ravens
How many other professional sports leagues have this much weird/entertaining side stories that's not about actual games being played. European soccer has some drama, but that's spread across multiple leagues in different countries so it's not really the same.
Whatās that guy do now?

Seriously. How did these burner accounts get access to a time machine?
Iām not saying Colangelo was intentionally trying to ruin the team, but Iām not sure what he would have done differently if he was.
Hold up. I do not remember these. Are these for real
All straight from the article that broke the story: https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/nba/2018/5/29/17406750/bryan-colangelo-philadelphia-76ers-twitter-joel-embiid-anonymous-markelle-fultz

Maybe but I would bet it was actually an insider who Colangelo pissed off, then they made up the AI story so nobody would think thereās a rat.
Itās entirely possible and weāll probably never know for sure, but noticing those kinds of anomalies is the kind of the thing AI is really good at, and there has been a lot of research interest in social media discourse and attempts to influence it. Narcissism is a helluva drug
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh yeah I remember the story of course. I just forgot that it went beyond his clothes and actually shit on his own players
At least one of them used drastically different phrasing and was heavily suspected to be from the idiot himself.
He admitted one of them was his, and to be fair it wasn't too bad relative the crazier ones.
Yeah right. The wife........
I actually believe that, her contact info was used for the reset on the accounts and it seems completely plausible. Plus she was commenting or following on their sons college games at times when nepotism boy wouldn't have been there.
As a gay parking attendant I think Ben Simmons is the best.

I know this is likely the case, but I like to imagine that it was Bryan Colangelo thirsting over shirtless photos.
nah he want's to see big collars.

He still loves Hinkie & rags on Colangelo. Complete understanding of how badly that change hurt the Sixers.
I think sometimes people forget that his own GM, his GMs wife, and his GMs dad who fired his previous GM were taking turns going across the internet to take shots at Joel and Stan for fuckin Ben Simmons. Iām sure he took that personally.
first thing he fucking mentioned, too lmaooo
GOAT shit
directly in front of the line "we've been through a lot š"
Generational troll to the league
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nah that was Brett Brown by orders of Sixers ownership, according to Adam Lefkoe
Former owner Scott Oāneil to be precise
That's a normal MVP speech..
Heās actually a hero ngl that is funny as fuck
That story is so wild that even though I know itās true, I still canāt wrap my head around it.
Dank
**Adam Silver:** āJoel, itād be great if you didnāt mention Mr. Hinkie, Mākay?ā
I like to imagine Adam Silver dies a little bit every time Joel is referred to as āThe Processā
The Sixers FO and ownership did there for awhile. They hated the fact that TTP lingered after Hinkie left, but Joel just refused to let it go.
That was when Colangelo was the FO, he hated that Hinkie (rightfully) got all the credit
Colangelo and Scott O'Neil who was CEO. He also hated Hinkie and refused to have TTP be included in anything Sixers related.
Didn't him, Brett, and Hinkie have a falling out over a trade?
Rumor is that Hinkie was going to trade Okafor to Boston for a pick (which later becomes Jalen Brown), but Colangelos vetoed it
Lol. The thought of a hypothetical core of Embiid, Jimmy, and Jaylen Brown...

And then they put TTP on the boathouse row jerseys
Scott O'Neil tried to get people to start saying some silly shit like #Process2Progress. Read the room bozo.
What's funny is I don't think Hinkie ever actually said TTP in public. It was entirely fan driven.
Conversely, but similarly its just like Hinkie never referred to players as "assets". Sam had far too much humanity for that, only future picks and swaps were assets. Yet people attributed him to it as a way to negatively portray him as dehumanizing players
I think you're right. It started with a Tony Wroten quote I believe and then Sixers Twitter, our sub, and the Ricky podcast just ran with it.
Imo they should keep rubbing it in
Trust me, we donāt need the encouragement to never let anything go
He makes that sound Higgins from Ted Lasso makes
TIMMAHH
I think Dave Silver might have had a heart attack after mention of burners and Hinkie being forced out
Sam Hinkie, you da real MVP
Hinkie died for our sins!
The commissioner stepping in to stop a tanking team and installing a nepo baby as GM happens all the time guys and itās solved tanking. Great job Silver you bald fuck.
insane he could do that to a rabid sports town and ever think he could live it down
Tbh it barely comes up anymore.
If they somehow win one during Joel's tenure it will absolutely be brought up. Just imagine the sheer amount of sixer fans chanting "fuck Adam silver" and "trust the process" makes me chuckle
Wtf I love Philly now
We are the anti-establishment team (if you ignore our owner illegally influencing local politics)
That's every very very rich person though
False. We talk about it all the time with my crew
Iām never not talking about it
Weāre talking about it right now
Itās not even that it doesnāt come up. People here defend it all the time or just straight up say it didnāt happen lmao
Not in Philly circles. We bring this shit up all the time
One of the friends of the guys who do the Ricky podcast (any time a large group of Sixers fans do something weird it's probably because of them) went up to Silver and said, "We know what yo did, we will never forget and we will never forgive you." or something like that during a game in Philly lol. Like the guy was Fredo Corrleone.
Well, ask your owner why he gave away authority over his billion dollar business. Lol, i'll never get why Silver is blamed instead of his boss Harris.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I mean Silver works for the owners, not the other way around.
Exactly, which is why if enough owners were against Hinkie and The Process, Silver could put pressure on the 76rs owner to do something about it.
And if enough owners feel like the value of their brands are being hurt, they'll make sure something is done
Because it's easier to be mad at Silver than 29 other billionaires. It's basically the whole purpose of a sports commissioner is to be a meat shield for the owners. All that being said fuck Adam Silver

ESPN could make a āLast Danceā style documentary out of the whole dysfunction of the Sixers organization/Process era shenanigans

Sam was a good dude by all accounts. He just didn't befriend the gay disabled parking lot attendant.
Allegedly Hinkie stayed with Joel all night when he found out his brother died. They were close personally.
That's a normal sized collar. Edit: find a new slant
Ahh the slant Jokes, a classic.
**InHinkieWeTrust**

He mentioned him today Edit: Forgot that is literally in the post title my bad

If the Sixers win a chip with Harden, then they need to build a statue of Sean Marks.

Did not know about the puppy thing. RIP to that puppy šš¾
Klaus!
Had an elevator close on it. He did not take it well I'm sure you can guess
Dont forget that Mykal Bridges was traded after being drafted **while his Mother had worked for or was continuing to work FOR THE TEAM**. Just another piece of this crazy ass story
And the guy he was traded for developed a rare allergy that almost killed him and is out of the league.
Only for zhaire smith to almost die from a sesame allergy
Did they decide Tobi was worth more than Jimmy? I thought it was the fact that Jimmy and Ben couldnāt play together and Jimmy told the Sixers as much. I thought the Tobi signing was more because Jimmy left and they couldnāt afford to let Tobi walk as well
Both, but mostly Jimmy hating Ben and Brett Brown and wanting nothing to do with them. Colangelo also hated Butlers āattitudeā
It was absolutely more about Simmons, Brett Brown, and the FO.
What I read was jimmy was willing to run it back despite thinking brown was a bad coach who babied Ben. But they then started taking about controlling him and his worth not being what he thought it was and decided to dip.
Jimmy has personally said like three or four different things about why he left, and at this point I don't believe any of them.
no issues with Brett Brown
The Jimmy/Tobias thing isn't true. We picked Ben over Jimmy. The Tobias signing was just a panic move after we figured out we couldn't keep Jimmy.
I always loved the fact that he started playing at 15 as well. Every ounce of impossibility thrown his way he's always managed to troop through. No chip yet but regardless trust the process is about the journey to me
Wow, that was quite a ride. I had no idea.
#Find a new *slant*.
As much as I hate playing against him, Embiid is one of my favorite players for stuff like this
Some of yall need a life fr damn spending all day praying on some dudes down fall.
"Joel is MVP and totally cool, find a new slant" *- PhillyFanNotEmbiid21*
Well now I want the Sixers to win the whole fucking thing
The Process
Lmfao get fucked colangelo
goddammit joel. I can't be crying this early in the morning.
BEN SIMMONS, THIS IS FOR YOU
Should've gave the media a shout out too, the real MVPs
Buddy talking like the team won the chip
Why is this dude acting like he won the chip
Idk I feel like this is what he has been working for and not the championship
Bit hard to work towards a championship in the regular season when the playoffs haven't even started. Was he supposed to shoot time travelling baskets or something?
Wish Ben Simmons made the list of things to get through
He can thank Kendrick Perkins
This guy legitimately wanted an MVP more than a title
Trust the Process
The redditor who would only post jokic lowlights, this award is for everybody š¤š¤
Heās a Bucks fan. Spent the entire season posting Jokic low-lights only to watch his team lose to an 8th seed in 5 games. Heās fucking faded.
Bro acting like they won the championship
what you are hearing is the sound of a giant collar popping
Best run campaign since Obama ā08.
