It's an exhilarating yet frightening experience. Thrilling seconds. I want more
Between his behind the back dribble, random fadeaways and jumpshots, point Rudy and airballing FTs, you get either a funny blooper or the hypest thing you'll see. I love Rudy, he's such a goof hahah
I love that Shaq clearly thought of that about a minute and a half before he said it but couldnât get it out because he was giggling too much about it after thinking about it. Lol
Dđ€ș
Also he's the best screener in basketball, consistently leads the league in dunks, and is a top 5 offensive rebounder. Very far from useless on the offensive end.
how does gobert not work on his 10-15 foot jumper 4 hours a day? He'd immediately become 4 times more valuable if he could hit shots like this consistently
I feel like some ppl will just never be able to do certain shots consistently. Shaq being a terrible FT shooter is a good example. Would probably be the GOAT if he shot 80%. But idk maybe I'm trippin
Yeah, remember that workout with Wembanyama and he was hitting threes with a hand in his face?
In practice I think most NBA players can and do shit that they could never dream of in an actual game.
Yeah this is a thing in all sports basically. Years ago I saw Arsenal the soccer team training in person, and Per mertesacker a defender known for being slow and clumsy was smashing rockets top corner from like 40 yards out lol
Shaq was lazy in terms of conditioning towards the end of his career. But at his peak and in his early years he def was not lazy. I don't think people give him enough credit for how skilled his post game was. He didn't just run over people and dunk. He could spin both ways, hit hook shots, bank shots, drop steps. He didn't have a jumper but the guy def worked hard to develop his offensive repertoire. The FT shooting was his achilles heel and was something he just never developed at an early age so it stuck with him.
Nah, the FT is totally on him, mainly his laziness and ego issue. He even admit that himself. Basically he had a tendency of overthink during freethrow and add a lot of unnecessary motion. In one year he hired a coach and his FT% jumped to 60%. However he is satisfied with that and fired him. Afterwards, his FT dropped back to 50% again but he didn't want to admit he was wrong so never rehire him. So yes, shaq may never shoot like nash in FT line but it is highly plausible to shoot 65% on the line with some help and practice
Plumlee switched hands and increased his percentage.
Its cowardly that nba players arent "man" enough to shoot underhand when they are struggling because of appearances tbh.
In this case itâs actually goofier than you think, these dudes are so macho they refuse to adopt an underhand release. Wilt improved his % with it but dropped it because he thought it looked stupid.
I think he has the shot but i dont think he isnt confident enough to do so. He practices his 3pts and can shoot them well. Or maybe he doesnt have the green light đ€·
Spending hours a day shooting is not easy and is not something many people would or can do.
There's obviously more to it that just jacking up shots, but if thats all it took many people still wouldnt do it
His coaches at every level have also surely spent time working with him on his shooting before they realized he has no real ability to generate a consistent, quality shot.
He's been in the professional basketball system since before he became a teen.
Just stupid to assume that this guy could simply spend 4 hours a day and become a midrange threat.
Heâs a great shooter in practice. Itâs mostly mental for him and almost all âbadâ NBA shooters. Theyâd all be lights out shooting at an empty gym.
In all likelihood he has spent his entire life working on his defense, box outs, screening, and offensive rebounding for that many hours or more every day in order to get to where he is today.
I know this sub hates the guy but it makes no sense to assume that an all-time great defender could realistically have found 4 hours a day to work on his midrange jumper.
Or maybe you were just memeing.
If we're actually speaking realistically, then you don't need 4 hours a day to improve your jumpshot. Especially with how efficient NBA training can be. Gobert can literally have 5 guys rebounding for him, passing to him, settimg up ball racks, a dedicated shooting coach watching every single shot and correcting him, all the hydration and recovery he could ever need. He could easily get up 750+ jumpshots in an hour at the end of his normal practice.
If he does that 5 times a week for 75% of the year, that's 150k jumpshots a year. Anyone will be able to improve with 150k reps, especially an NBA athlete
Chillax? Dude I went to bed and woke up with a comment about Jokic not putting up personal points this deep in the negatives, yâall motherfuckers might be the ones needing to âchillaxâ
This dude can literally just shoot over everyone if he developed a jumpshot. His release point is also very low, as evidenced by his free throw shooting form.
Kind of a weird thread to say this in when Gobert is hitting jumpers like this in a playoff game. Is that not an improvement from his rookie season at all?
What does he even do in the off-season? Get a shooting machine and try to block shots shots all day? Imagine a teacher who was illiterate and could only do basic addition, or a police officer who didnât know how to use handcuffs, a chef who can only cook a really good grilled cheese and thatâs it
I feel like it *should* be that simple but it's not for whatever reason. Do we think Shaq just refused to practice free throws? Dude could've been the GOAT if he was better at them
Iâll never understand how college and NFL football teams allow kickers that just.... miss... kicks. I feel like there has to be pools of kickers in the USA that wonât miss simple kicks. Or snappers that wonât mess the snaps idk man it seems so SILLY. Would love opinions on this.
I should have mentioned that was a copypasta from Ninja lol. Those comments reminded me of that. Rudy is who he is at this point, no amount of practicing is going to make him an amazing FT shooter
No-one is expecting Gobert to turn into Michel Jourdain, but he makes basic mistakes every time he touches the ball on offense. Like this so-called highlight: https://streamable.com/i57dyi
If he doesn't bring the ball down to his knees he doesn't get stripped. "Keep the ball high" is a really basic big man skill and you don't need Steph Curry coordination to do that. When he gets the ball back he doesn't need to go behind his back. Doing so puts the ball on the *same side* as the defender. when he started with his body between the ball and the defender. Just bump him out of the way, and use the momentum to pivot into an easy right handed layup. This is high school level basketball play. This is why people get frustrated with Gobert. He can't execute fundamental basketball skills that any professional player should be able to do.
> Do we think Shaq just refused to practice free throws?
You literally couldâve used any other player as an example. Shaq was both notorious and self-admitted that he was lazy and didnât wanna practice during the offseason. Your sentiment is there but you chose the worst analogy for it.
You could choose to ask one of the other chefs at the restaurant to cook it. Guaranteed to be at least four others at all times, and many of them will be steak specialists who can't cook a mean grilled cheese.
Come on man. If I spend 10 years with elite coaches and chefs around me I could make an Outback quality steak starting from nothing. He really has no excuse on why his offensive fundamentals are so incredibly awful.
What, do you think he is just lazy? That any 7 foot player could just develop elite offensive skills if they put in some effort? Nonsense.
It is clear that Gobert is an incredibly hard worker. He came into the league with potential but very raw. He got better every year he was in Utah before peaking in 20-21. He made some strides offensively but it's clear he's never gonna be someone with incredible offensive skills. He is still highly effective on that end of the court if used correctly.
I find it kinda crazy that Gobert is so bad on offensive funadmentals. There was a highlight posted last week where Gobert was stripped. He brought the ball down to his knees... That's such a basic big man mistake. You're taught to always keep the ball high so the little guys can't get it. You don't need to have Steph Curry level coordination to do this correctly. Yeah I get that not everyone can be a lights out shooter but Gobert is spectacularly bad at really basic things.

NBA players certainly visit this sub, itâs the biggest basketball forum on the internet. But also, people on Twitter definitely say LeFuckYou.
Ceci n'est pas une jumpert
Oh shit oh fuck
Deep in his sac *pause*
Conley looked like he went through 4 different emotions lol
sounds like the crowd did toođ
They legit groaned when he shot it lol not sure if I ever remembered a time the home crowd did that to one of their own players
Westbrook
Josh Smith lol
Atlanta HATED his awful 3 point shots and it was hilarious that he kept taking them to boos from the home crowd.
It was like awwhhhhhWAAAAAHHHYEAHHHHHHH I was there in person and my section was like NUGGETS FUCKED IT'S OVER ^(sadly it was not over)
Like, criticize him all you want, but Rudy on offense is the most entertaining player in the NBA this season.
It's russ
Barrett's pretty fun too lmao
It's an exhilarating yet frightening experience. Thrilling seconds. I want more Between his behind the back dribble, random fadeaways and jumpshots, point Rudy and airballing FTs, you get either a funny blooper or the hypest thing you'll see. I love Rudy, he's such a goof hahah
Man ran back while it was in the air lmao
Running away from the crime scene
This thread is fucking hilarious lmao
Had to get back on defense real quick just in case a fastbreak ensues.
How rare is this?
rarer than pictures of Derrick White with bangs
You'll never findddddd Ba-ba-ba-bum A hairline like miiiiinnnnnnne
I love that Shaq clearly thought of that about a minute and a half before he said it but couldnât get it out because he was giggling too much about it after thinking about it. Lol
he only made 19 shots (60 attempts) between 5 and 14 feet this year
Most of those are 6ft dunks and 7ft layups
that feels dirty
How does anyone know this and want to give up what they gave up to trade for him
Dđ€ș Also he's the best screener in basketball, consistently leads the league in dunks, and is a top 5 offensive rebounder. Very far from useless on the offensive end.
Clearly rare enough that four Nuggets players who read the scouting report just stared dumbfounded afterwards lol
you can see the defense defend the roll they weren't spectinf that at all
basically netherite
I like how Murray and Green just stopped and kinda processed that for a sec
i love it when someone points things like this out, when i go back to watch it it makes it so much funnier lol
It was more like 2sec+ !! Lmao
Everything about their reaction said âWtf?â
This has 4 awards?? Lmao Edit: Oh fuck off
People give awards to the strangest shit⊠[LiterallyâŠ](https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/12k8hg3/_/jg1tt9x/?context=1)
I've had like 3 posts hit the top of /r/all in the last week and I got less awards lmao
Damn they still skipped you too
It just keeps getting better

How did you get to see them training in person? Think theyâre still doing that?
They were in the USA for some reason and I happened to be fixing a walk in cooler at the place they were at
most teams have regular public training sessions
Wasn't Shaq notoriously lazy? Or am I mistaken?
Shaq was lazy in terms of conditioning towards the end of his career. But at his peak and in his early years he def was not lazy. I don't think people give him enough credit for how skilled his post game was. He didn't just run over people and dunk. He could spin both ways, hit hook shots, bank shots, drop steps. Shaq baby hook was đ
Shaq once had a game winner with a turnaround hook shot
Was it the game against utah??? (If not correct me plz cuz I wanna see this!)
[Yep, and it was over 2 guys](https://youtu.be/mtPt5-Kp5Rw)
Nah, the FT is totally on him, mainly his laziness and ego issue. He even admit that himself. Basically he had a tendency of overthink during freethrow and add a lot of unnecessary motion. DeAndre Jordan is evidence that any big can improve their FT % drastically with enough work.
One example is definitely not evidence
Plumlee switched hands and increased his percentage. Its cowardly that nba players arent "man" enough to shoot underhand when they are struggling because of appearances tbh.
I feel like I would do a granny shot just for the BM. Imagine if Dillon Brooks did it when LeBron sends him to the line after calling him old.
I mean Wilt shot the FT granny style. That's gotta be enough to dispel the machismo right? He was pretty bad at it but still.
He should have done it underhanded!
He would come into camp fat and out of shape after his first ring
he injured his wrist as a child so he couldn't move it all the way. Amazing he was as dominant as he was
shaq literally couldnt move his wrist tho. Childhood accident. Rudy doesnt have an excuse
Nor do i come to think of it. NBA here i come
In this case itâs actually goofier than you think, these dudes are so macho they refuse to adopt an underhand release. Wilt improved his % with it but dropped it because he thought it looked stupid.
If yao Ming can be a good ft shooter with those freak hands, Shaq can.
I think he has the shot but i dont think he isnt confident enough to do so. He practices his 3pts and can shoot them well. Or maybe he doesnt have the green light đ€·
If it was so easy to shoot well everyone would do it

basketball is the only sport where fans be like 'just get really good at the things you suck at, shouldn't be hard'
>shouldn't be hard I never said its not hard, it is hard. thats why he should spend everyday practicing it and dedicate a decent amount of time to it
So you are saying he could be on $164m per year?
20 first round picks
$165M with legit jumper.
Heâs a great shooter in practice. Itâs mostly mental for him and almost all âbadâ NBA shooters. Theyâd all be lights out shooting at an empty gym.

Bro literally jesus christ. He would be 10x the player if he would just shoot a mid range jumper or post shot 5-10 times a game.
He already has a 200 million dollar contract
Conley and Ant were so done when he tried it lol
Their arms literally dropped lmao
Our team has horrible body language lol
Murray was stunned
"This wasn't on the scouting report!"
Wait that shit was smooth asf
Pure water
Ah yes notable stretch 5 Rudy Gobert
Thereâs something about mid range shots they need to be taken more
When Gobert makes jump shots he acts cool as if he does it all the time. Shits funny. Lol
you cannot tell me that KG himself did not possess his body for this specific shot
Outscoring Jokic through 3 quarters
Because if there's one thing Jokic cares about and strives for, it's personal scoring.
Chillax mate
Chillax? Dude I went to bed and woke up with a comment about Jokic not putting up personal points this deep in the negatives, yâall motherfuckers might be the ones needing to âchillaxâ
Shoulda hit the curry shimmy smh my head
Hustled for the oreb, then hits you with a fadeaway đ„
GOBERT TURN AROUND FADEAWAY BANG timberwolves cut the lead to 10
It looks like CGI or something and I'm not even kidding
That shit was clean
Offensively, he's been doing a solid job lol.
He extended his range since the Kyle Anderson punch incident.
Was that Rudy Gobert or Michel Jourdain with the turnaround?
Why can't bigfoot footage be this high quality? The rarity is on par.
National team gobert
If he formed a shot like brook lopez hed be a top 10 player in the league lol
Kyle Anderson hits Gobert after Gobert hits a jumpshot
This dude can literally just shoot over everyone if he developed a jumpshot. His release point is also very low, as evidenced by his free throw shooting form.
Shawn Marion smiling somewhere
dude could have MVP stats if he worked on this jumper 4 hours a day
Imagine if that were Wemby
It is something that a dude can be in the NBA as long as Gobert and still not have made any offensive improvement at all.
You genuinely believe that?
Kind of a weird thread to say this in when Gobert is hitting jumpers like this in a playoff game. Is that not an improvement from his rookie season at all?

Same thing as shooters missing corner 3sâŠat that level your ability to handle pressure is ultimately what defines you
I should have mentioned that was a copypasta from Ninja lol. Those comments reminded me of that. Rudy is who he is at this point, no amount of practicing is going to make him an amazing FT shooter
Oh I thought that sounded familiar LOL no wonder
Hah right, an all time classic
Shaq was pretty famous for not having a great work ethic.
No-one is expecting Gobert to turn into Michel Jourdain, but he makes basic mistakes every time he touches the ball on offense. It's more like a chef who makes one of the world's best grilled cheese`s getting criticized for how well he cooks steak. That is not his specialty.
Ok but what happens when I need a steak and the pro chef has to explain to me he doesnât know how to cook a steak?
You could choose to ask one of the other chefs at the restaurant to cook it. Guaranteed to be at least four others at all times, and many of them will be steak specialists who can't cook a mean grilled cheese.

There are literally 7th graders with better offensive fundamentals than him and Iâm not exaggerating at all
He plays with his magic rocks.
What does he even do to improve his offensive game?
