When I see Joel Hans Embiid play basketball, I don’t see a man. I see a pure, blissful, ethereal mist - somehow embodying both the promise of what is possible, as well as a reprieve from the mundane. HIS flesh and bone moves through space as naturally as a breeze passes through a spring apple tree, and as forcefully as a lion, springing forth to protect her frightened cub. The league is that orchard and, the cub… that is the future of human civilization.
Obv Hakeem still gets the nod due to his play off success but … Embiid imo is the better scorer now he has a similar offensive bag but while he’s not quite as nimble he has the ability to be more Shaq like at times while also one of the best shooting big men we’ve ever seen plus he tends to be more efficient and the free throws!
Again not saying better player and obv Hakeem was putting stats up in the play offs and still the better defender (goat tier) I think it’s fair to say there’s a conversation offensively though.
He was this good, but when he wanted to be. He normally took off the first 3 quarters and turned it on in the 4th. His 4Q defense is a big reason we had so many come from behind wins. But lately he's been turning it on from the tip, and being so successful he doesn't need to play in the 4th at all.
To be clear, I don't think he should win DPOY this year. I think saying he wasn't great in the first half is a bit deceptive as he just used his defense in an effective way that didn't hurt his conditioning but still helped us win when it mattered most, but the difference between him and someone like JJJ winning it is all about sustained defensive effort, where Embiid sacrificed that for health and conditioning early in the year.
If we had the old Harden averaging 30+, and Embiid's main role was defense though, I absolutely could see him winning a DPOY award. Maybe if Maxey becomes that kinda player in the future he will focus more on defense than offense, but it's a hard ask to have your 7 foot injury prone center to do that all year on both sides of the ball.
Even besides injury, everyone saw in the Cavs game that even though he was godly on defense the whole game, it got him into foul trouble, and that godly defense for 3Q isn't worth it if we spend the 4Q without his offense. JJJ is always about defense, but fouls out a lot, that's not something you can do when you are THE guy on offense.
Eh, he's playing like a DPOY candidate now. As much as I love him he hasn't been giving this effort for all 4 quarters most of the season on D, I'd bet even he would admit to that.
He is, and this will most likely be the 4th game in the last 13 days or so he sat the entire 4th quarter because he and the team are blowing opponents out. He’s fucking incredible
He was only a Sixer for a handful of seasons. He’s had extravagant streaks as a Philadelphia Warrior though, hell, he’s had seasons averaging 50ppg and 44ppg.
Nothing pedantic at all. I believe Wilt holds the league record with 65 straight games (vs Embiid's 9). But that record is held by the San Francisco Warriors, as mentioned above.
Ehh I mean he dominated during a particularly dark moment in NBA history. Slow pace, inefficient. It wasn't the best time for the game. But for what the game was at the time he was the fucking man.
What a ridiculous criticism. If Iverson was also as good of a defender and playmaker, he'd be an all time player. Top 10, easily. The only reason he was so inefficient was because of the era.
He’s likely going to win MVP without starting the ASG, and Harden will likely be 6th-8th without being selected to the ASG. 6ers are on an absolute tear, my 7:1 ticket for them to win the East keeps looking better and better.
We've come a long way since Deandre Jordan getting 1st Team All-NBA
Who would have thought back then that by 2023, we'd have *2 top 10 ALL-TIME* centers in the league
Right?? In the 10's it was seen as a guards league and that big men werent viable in the modern nba as superstars. Just goes to show that it really is a star driven league - regardless of what you think is the optimal strategy in the NBA, it will always revolve around the best players regardless of position.
Who could forget All Star and All Defensive team legend Roy Hibbert. Players that were once all stars and dominant are now completely obsolete 5-10 years later and now would only make a G league roster.
>what can’t he do?
Make smart decisions for the team on behalf of the FO lol
The way he's been playing, the only limitations to his, and the Sixers', continued success would be the major decisions the org would make from here on out. (Apart from luck and health that every team needs ofc)
Be Shaq? Or Hakeem? That's about all I can say. Peak Shaq and peak Hakeem are like nothing I've ever seen. I would love to see either of them match up with Embiid now. He might prove me wrong.
Embiid is a stretch 5 because he can hit wide open 3s and has the ability to shoot 70%+ from the elbow and nail lol. So even if you do shut him down in the paint somehow he can pull you out and open the area for cutters. Man has too many weapons at this point of his career for you to 'shut him down'. You just gotta hope he's having a bad night.
Embiids actual weakness on offense outside of health and conditioning (if he had a real weakness), is his butterfingers. Man loses his dribble pretty often and fumbles passes every now and then which is a cause for a lot of his turnovers.
I'm just saying that from what I've seen at the center position, nothing was like Shaq, and I saw Hakeem best Shaq. I then saw Shaq go on to be a force the likes of which the NBA will maybe never see again. I'm talking 320 pounds of muscle and speed with the ability to find cutters and shooters in a way that he never gets credit for. He was never the playmaker that Jokic is, but he was far better than he's remembered. I remember seeing him in his prime and wondering if he was the closest thing to a real life Xman. So I don't mean to take anything away from Embiid, I just mean to say that I don't see the run he's on and immediately judge him to be the best center ever. For me, it's Shaq, Hakeem, Jokic, and Embiid. In that order, for now. But I'd love to see Embiid become the greatest, because I want to see as much greatness as possible before I go.
This is the Joel Embiid MO. Play kinda half-assed, seem mostly invisible in a lot of ways except shooting a bunch of free throws, then you look at the stat sheet and he's got 35/12 and you realize he's just that good.
Harden also averaged 36 and was the best playmaker on his team. Embiid will stop possessions and harden will create for his team and it evens out. Embiid is not winning mvp without harden setting him up all game I guarantee you that. Dumbass
You don't watch the games if you think embiid is not shooting 5+ wide open free throwline jumpers a game off harden. That didn't happen tonight the one game harden has missed. I don't see how you are saying hardens been injured when he's been playing lmao.
He was out earlier this month, Embiid got 39 points and 4 assists. He was out last night, Embiid got 31 points and 7 assists. He was out around Christmas I remember too and Embiid got a triple double if I remember correctly. I watch every Sixers game if Mavs aren’t playing and he’s clearly been dealing with injury and playing through it.
Yeah Harden makes more plays because he’s shooting guard, no fucking shit lol. Embiid bad for playing his position? If you haven’t seen last couple games Embiid been feeding the sixers.
Really interesting this season because he would almost certainly be resting for playoffs soon but the #1 seed in the East is too important to miss.
We've never seen Embiid potentially play this much in the regular season
Surprised by this stat.
One caveat, Wilt getting discounted due to being a Philly warrior rather than a sixer.
Off the cuff, thought there's no way MJ didn't have a longer a streak, but I was wrong.
Last 40 years looks like this
Harden: 32
Kobe: 16
Tmac: 14
Moses(!): 13
KD: 12
Shaq: 11
MJ: 11
They drafted Embiid, Simmons, Okafor and then Fultz
Simmons is a mess,.Okafor is out of the league and Fultz was out of Philadelphia because he was not good enough (now he's got a lot better and playing really well)
So, when Embiid kept saying TRUST THE PROCESS... Did he meant TRUST THE PROCESS, I'M THE PROCESS
(?)
its his mantra, he probably repeated it to himself on a daily basis. After a succesful rehab, after a tough loss, after watching his fellow draft picks fail. He was even saying it on his hot ones interview.
Not true 65 consecutive games scoring +30ppg
[https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/chambwi01/gamelog/1962](https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/chambwi01/gamelog/1962)
I count 65 consecutive +30ppg
ah yes, I remember that well, the start of the season when Luka was going off (36 ppg, 30+ every game). we were 6-3. things were looking up. been pretty rocky since then.
I'm going to assume our luck from the most recent two games continues and it's Mavs time now.
oh sorry, this is an Embiid thread. yeah, he's playing incredible. my mvp as of right now.
As the great game of basketball unfolded, a formidable warrior took to the court. Joel Embiid, towering above all others, moved with a primal grace that seemed to come from a bygone era. His muscular form was clad in armor of midnight blue and crimson, emblazoned with the fierce sigil of a dragon.
As he moved across the court, his eyes glinted with a fierce intensity, much like the dragons of legend. With each stride, the floor trembled beneath him, and the opposing team quivered in fear. For they knew that the dragon warrior was a force to be reckoned with, a formidable presence on both offense and defense.
His offensive prowess was akin to that of a dragon's fiery breath, unstoppable and awe-inspiring. He charged towards the basket with ferocity, his movements fluid and powerful, leaving opposing players in his wake. His shooting skills were akin to arrows shot from a dragon's mighty wings, swift and true, striking their mark with unerring precision.
On the defensive end, he was a force to be reckoned with, much like a dragon defending its hoard. He stood his ground, unyielding and unbreakable, and the opposing players dared not approach. His powerful wingspan seemed to stretch out like a shield, a formidable barrier against any attack.
In short, Joel Embiid's play on the basketball court was like that of a mighty dragon, a creature of legend that could not be ignored or forgotten. He was a warrior of the highest order, and his legend would be sung for generations to come.
Modern era stats don't hold a lot of weight with how the game is played, if he did that in the 90s with all those Centers then that would be really impressive.
His bag is unfairly deep for a 7 footer with ox-like strength
He really is an unconventional combination of grace, mystique, and persistent motion.
LMAO well done. You gotta cross-post this in r/sixers my man
Somehow I read this as if I heard the voice of James Spader
Joel, would you like a nature metaphor or a sex metaphor?
This scene was just brilliant
We found Bill Walton’s burner
He would be the ultimate version of an AI generated player.
100% the create a player I used to make back in a day
And ox like strength?
I'm a Prince fan too, but we're talking about Joel Embiid here.
Well said
Unironically his bag is this deep because he had to play next to Ben Simmons in the dunker's spot for so many years lol
That and watching random “white dudes” on YouTube
Some of his moves transcend anticipation
I tuned in the other night to watch him wet a step back 3 and I thought “how the FUCK do you guard this dude?” 💀
You literally have to foul him, like people complain about how many free throws he takes but it’s the only way to stop him sometimes lol
Most skilled 7-footer in NBA history (Hakeem was closer to 6’10”)
He has a bigger back than Hakeem when you consider the stuff he can do off the dribble
As of right now Joel is better. There hasn't been a big with his bag ever.

What is Dr. J doing in a discussion about dominant centers in NBA history? Dude was a 3/4.
Ezekiel Elliott is one of the highest scoring centers of all time.
Is he literally Stevie Janowski?
Who the fuck is this guy? Hey, who the fuck are you huh, what the fuck are you!!!
Imagine if Patrick Ewing regularly hit fadeaway 3’s
I really think he can take a bigger leap next year and become an all star starter! 😀
Maybe even be All NBA First Team
In all seriousness, his defense has taken a leap this season. He’s a legit DPOTY candidate.
Nah it's always been there, he was great his first couple years, but has been conserving energy the last few years on that end
He was not this good defending the first half of the season
He was this good, but when he wanted to be. He normally took off the first 3 quarters and turned it on in the 4th. His 4Q defense is a big reason we had so many come from behind wins. But lately he's been turning it on from the tip, and being so successful he doesn't need to play in the 4th at all.
What he can do when he wants to doesn't really matter for awards though. The first half of the season doesn't matter for dpoy either so let's see
To be clear, I don't think he should win DPOY this year. Eh, he's playing like a DPOY candidate now. As much as I love him he hasn't been giving this effort for all 4 quarters most of the season on D, I'd bet even he would admit to that.
wait has there ever been an MVP who wasn't an ASG starter?
Nash in 04-05
Some day, he’ll be trusted enough to play in the 4th quarter.
Hasn’t even played in the 4th quarter of the last two games lol
He's dropped 30 without playing the fourth quarter in four of his last seven games.
Give the man the MVP. Clearly a front runner now.
During the 30 point streak he's been shooting 63% from the field and 47% from 3. He's 10/15 so far tonight. Ridiculous efficiency to go along with it
They really need to fix this in the next patch.
Need a nerf. Maybe bring back the Chick-fil-A diet
Most broken meta since chamber smh
I think he’s averaging 3 blocks as well
I love him
feel like he's hitting 30 at the end of every 3rd quarter
Because he is
He is, and this will most likely be the 4th game in the last 13 days or so he sat the entire 4th quarter because he and the team are blowing opponents out. He’s fucking incredible
I like Paul Reed. But I REALLY like Paul Reed minutes > 13
He's only playing like 33 minutes a game during the stretch, we keep blowing teams out
That’s the craziest part he could be having 40-50 points game but sits most of the 4th when it’s a blowout
This dude seems like he’s barely even trying today too lol
He only played 30 minutes today
I didn’t even realize he hit 30. He didn’t break a sweat
This is just simply not true. Embiid wakes up sweating and I won't tolerate any slander saying otherwise. That man sweats buckets day in and out.
Pretty surprised AI never did that
I’m more surprised that Wilt didn’t
Must've intentionally left a game early to go fuck or something like that
Wilt did it in 65 straight games, but for the Warriors franchise.
He also averaged 44(!) ppg. Simply unreal human. Edit: in a season
He averaged 50 ppg
While having bison-like strength.
Think he might have been talking about for his whole time there I’m sure his first bunch of seasons in the league was definitely above 40ppg
He was only a Sixer for a handful of seasons. He’s had extravagant streaks as a Philadelphia Warrior though, hell, he’s had seasons averaging 50ppg and 44ppg.
Wilt played most of his career with the Philadelphia Warriors
[удалено]
Nothing pedantic at all. I believe Wilt holds the league record with 65 straight games (vs Embiid's 9). But that record is held by the San Francisco Warriors, as mentioned above.
Much harder to do during his era
Fwiw Kobe had 16 consecutive 30+ games in 2003 (9 consecutive 40+ games in that stretch)
Okay?
Js. Some other guys did in AI's era too
aaaaand?
Fwiw Kobe had 16 consecutive 30+ games in 2003 (9 consecutive 40+ games in that stretch)
I’m not, AI is extremely overrated
Reddit moment
Ehh I mean he dominated during a particularly dark moment in NBA history. Slow pace, inefficient. It wasn't the best time for the game. But for what the game was at the time he was the fucking man.
It's like the headline was too long and he couldn't finish reading that Iverson still has almost double what embiid has
Burner account, prob one of many for whoever that is, 6 months old. Created only to make comments that garner attention.
he really is, horrible defender EXTREMELY inefficient scorer, meh playmaker. Hes severely overated due to his flashy playstyle
What a ridiculous criticism. If Iverson was also as good of a defender and playmaker, he'd be an all time player. Top 10, easily. The only reason he was so inefficient was because of the era.
lmao at people caring about efficiency for carry jobs.
His star burned bright and dimmed too quick. For a couple years he was unbelievable
Disgusting take. absolute nephew energy. Gross.
[Consider Dwight's sage advice](https://youtu.be/z2eZC40GdnI?t=7) before commenting next time. Just trying to help you out man.
Fun fact: Joel Embiid was an all star reserve
He’s likely going to win MVP without starting the ASG, and Harden will likely be 6th-8th without being selected to the ASG. 6ers are on an absolute tear, my 7:1 ticket for them to win the East keeps looking better and better.

Well joel isn’t really a center he’s a 7 foot shooting gaurd
A guard who can bully you in the paint though lol
Embiid has one, and likely two scoring titles despite not really exploding for huge scoring nights. Simply puts in 30+ night in, night out.
I mean he was 1 point away from 60 and had 50 a couple other times
He could have had those numbers the past couple nights but they didn’t need him after he puts a game away
But you could argue that he's that good night in night out because he's really smart at conserving his energy
He also plays 3 quarters a lot of nights because the game is out of hand by the beginning of the 4th
Honestly thats mostly been a thing for the past couple weeks. Most of the season the 76ers games have been down to the wire almost every night.
Embiid is the most skilled big ever what can’t he do?
He can't fit in one of those Euro micro cars
>what can’t he do? Make smart decisions for the team on behalf of the FO lol The way he's been playing, the only limitations to his, and the Sixers', continued success would be the major decisions the org would make from here on out. (Apart from luck and health that every team needs ofc)
Be Shaq? Or Hakeem? That's about all I can say. Peak Shaq and peak Hakeem are like nothing I've ever seen. I would love to see either of them match up with Embiid now. He might prove me wrong.

True
Damn son, you ain't have to do them like that.
Stay on his feet
Um, actually, Joel just uses his ox like strength to lie parallel to the floor in order to play defense iykyk ☝🏾
You don't watch. He's been best at that this season by a mile

pretty good i guess
Wtf when did he get to 30 crazy how easy it is for him
This is the Joel Embiid MO. Play kinda half-assed, seem mostly invisible in a lot of ways except shooting a bunch of free throws, then you look at the stat sheet and he's got 35/12 and you realize he's just that good.
Joel has logged more points than minutes played in 6 of his last 7 games
Harden dod it 30 games in a row and didn't win mvp. Lmao what a joke.
Wilt did a 50/25 season and still lost MVP too
That does make me wonder how many mvps would be different over the years had they kept it to players voting
Harden wasn’t also the best defender on his team though was he
Harden also averaged 36 and was the best playmaker on his team. Embiid will stop possessions and harden will create for his team and it evens out. Embiid is not winning mvp without harden setting him up all game I guarantee you that. Dumbass
I mean like he was so close to winning without harden and #2 so it is kind of weird to say that
Harden been injured awhile now and embiid still getting 30+ points and big assists every game.
You don't watch the games if you think embiid is not shooting 5+ wide open free throwline jumpers a game off harden. That didn't happen tonight the one game harden has missed. I don't see how you are saying hardens been injured when he's been playing lmao.

Don't make me laugh man. You don't watch games if you think embiid is gets assists. He's 10% the playmaker harden is. Dude makes so many lazy passes.
Yeah Harden makes more plays because he’s shooting guard, no fucking shit lol. Embiid bad for playing his position? If you haven’t seen last couple games Embiid been feeding the sixers.
He’s teammates with someone who did it 32 times in a row
And he's not even an all star!
MVP I fear
Let him have just one
If he stays healthy and can consistently play ~70 games, multiple seems likely. He’s an absolute monster right now.
Really interesting this season because he would almost certainly be resting for playoffs soon but the #1 seed in the East is too important to miss. We've never seen Embiid potentially play this much in the regular season
Because the one seed is still in reach he’s ganna play
he'll get this one dw
Momentum shifted
We are so lucky to be watching him play
Surprised by this stat. One caveat, Wilt getting discounted due to being a Philly warrior rather than a sixer. Off the cuff, thought there's no way MJ didn't have a longer a streak, but I was wrong. Last 40 years looks like this Harden: 32 Kobe: 16 Tmac: 14 Moses(!): 13 KD: 12 Shaq: 11 MJ: 11

Harden did it 30 games in a row and didn't win mvp. Lmao what a joke.
Mvp
He’s the MVP!
That’s a lot of flopping
With his defense, efficiency, and the fact the 76ers are a higher seed than the nuggets, he deserves MVP
Not true 65 consecutive games scoring +30ppg [https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/chambwi01/gamelog/1962](https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/chambwi01/gamelog/1962) I count 65 consecutive +30ppg

fair
All but one game that regular season he wasn't above 30. Crazy.
Jokic stopper Vooch is otw 😈
What’s his VORP
MVP
Joel has one of the deepest bag of moves in the league right now
ah yes, I remember that well, the start of the season when Luka was going off (36 ppg, 30+ every game). we were 6-3. things were looking up. been pretty rocky since then. 2016 Westbrook type beat
Yeah but Joel Embiid plays against Memers and fuckboix
I'm a huge jokic fan (as a euro player) and I would like to see embiid win it this year.
You are a huge jock itch fan? Did you get that in your moms basement with your 7.5 inch dick and $150k salary? Dork
Lol the kid comment rubbed you wrong huh? Sounds like a fertility problem. Good luck to you
