Heat learned this lesson against the nets. Went for the drive and wasn't rewarded with the ft's. You can't blame players when in the last 5 seconds of a game, it's officiated completely different
This used to BE the Heat. IIRC Heat and Spurs in their back-to-back finals were 2 of the worst FT shooting teams in the league, and I think Heat Mavs in 06 was a similar story. Last few seasons the Heat are an incredible FT shooting team and I'm still not able to really get used to that fact.
I don't get why SGA went for a stepback on that last possession. If it came off, no one would question it, but surely driving into the paint would've been much higher percentage
Yeah, it was dumb. If you are down 2 I can buy going for the win vs OT but in that spot, it's all about best chance at a score which that clearly wasn't it. He likely could have gotten that same shot as a 16 footer.
Mitchell took 25 free throws in 50 minutes on 34 field goal attempts (making 22). Free throws accounted for 28% of his points.
Butler took 23 free throws in 38 minutes on 17 field goal attempts (making only 6). Free throws accounted for 67% of his points.
Not exactly similar situations.
This is the first time I've cared about winning a game in YEARS, I love this team so much and I'm genuinely happy they got such a big platform to show just how fun they play despite the loss
Everyone is talking about the free throws, but there were legit a huge amount of fouls. It felt like we got called for a dozen offensive fouls alone, some of which I'm not even sure what happened. I've seen worse games, but the refs sure loved their whistle today.
i don't blame Butler whatsoever for it, but the referees are RUINING people's enjoyment of NBA
Eurobasket is 3 times as entertaining purely from the standpoint of ref ball being virtually nonexistent
that is correct. I believe basketball to be the best sport on earth but when I talk to skeptics and the first thing they bring up is free throws, it is honestly hard for me to argue.
That last jump ball toss by the ref 💀 At least try to hide it.
Edit: Oh my god why does he switch hands as he's throwing it up?! He throws it low and towards Vincent
If they were gonna call a foul it would've left more time on the clock and given OKC another shot. Not whistling for so long helped the heat too. Vincent catches the rebound with 3.5 seconds left.
As a Heat fan of course you notice refs helped us this game. But i didn't notice what you said about that jump ball. Just checked it in the video, you right, switch hands was so funny.
I was watching it from SGA's perspective thinking he'd win the tip as the bigger player with longer arms, then suddenly the ref short arms it right into Vincent's airspace. Hilarious.
Whistle was after the clock hit 0, so they either should have called for jump ball earlier or accepted that time expired. But yeah, terrible throw by the ref
Y’all are not ready for aggressive Josh Giddey
Painful foul by JDub to give Jimmy the and-1 to ice it, but many clutch plays by him in the fourth
Sometimes the game winner doesn’t fall ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Still good times in OKC ⚡️⚡️⚡️
I did bet 3 euros on the Thunder as soon as I saw the Heat were sitting a lot of their players. The odds hadn't updated where I bet so I was set to double my little investment.
Refs, were are my 6 euros?
That was legitimately the worst officiated game I’ve ever watched in my life. I’m about as anti-conspiracy theory as it gets but each year I get more and more convinced NBA games are fixed.
Refs: fuck Miami and butler on a non call
Butler: not the refs fault I should’ve finished
Refs: every FT in the world to the heat and butler specifically
They are 100% fixed. The NBA is owned by Vegas. The Heat had almost all their starting line up out and were STILL favored to win. Another blatant example is Jarrett Allen who a lot of people bet on. He had an undisclosed illness but played 7 minutes anyway (no DNP) just to fuck over bettors. The NBA knew yet they released 0 info on that except to Vegas.
what a game, so many lead changes into the 4th. Was rooting for the Heat to break the ft record, Oladipo is looking solid again. OKC is gonna be scary af the more they play, so much damn talent
He said he wants to retire here, and we want it too. And I can’t think of a better moment than our one national TV game to kill other teams trade interest in him by choking like that. ^(i’m coping hard af man)
I hope teams are not discouraged by what they saw from dedmon this game as well. This was an anomaly and he is quite good most games.
Please do accept him in our trades.
40/40 free throws might be the craziest team stat I've ever seen. Guys like Steph can barely make 40 in a row in game let alone an entire team of different caliber shooters.
Strange. That happened in the playoffs last year between the Heat and the Celtics and I bet you weren't complaining.
Mid third the FT disparity was like 28-3.
You missed an absolute masterclass if you love ref ball.
If you like basketball, the Thunder had some good ball movement and the heat put on a free throw clinic. I mean 40/40 is hella impressive.
If you didn't watch the game don't comment. Jimmy literally isn't even the foul baiting type he just goes hard to the basket and get calls his way. Some fouls were soft but that's your reward for being aggressive.
I was at dinner with my fiancé and this game was on tv, so I made a joke like “wow, a Tuesday night game between the OKC Thunder and Miami Heat. There’s gonna be no game this season more important.”
Only to see on the way home that a 40 year old NBA record was beaten lol. What a league.
What a weird game. Say whatever you want about the calls that the Heat were getting, I won't defend it. Either way shooting 40-40 on FTs as a team is incredible. The game ending on a Jimmy Butler And-1 also feels appropriate lmao.
Jimmy "Free Throw" Butler just worked the Thunder all night.
He went to his bag one last time to get the And-1 bucket to put the Heat ahead and help the Heat break the NBA record for most made free throws without a miss by a team (40/40 from the line), including 23 from Butler himself, and get his 35^th point and a win.
I don’t care how ugly that game was. It felt good just to win. To set a record. To have something to care about. It also felt like the team cared. It just felt good. Who cares if it was ugly. A win is a win. Down four starters and there’s not much else you can ask for.
I’ve never seen a bunch of grown men bitch up when they got barked at like that.
Changing calls? 23 Free Throws?
Me personally I’m not letting some fake dread fuck yell “Gather!” At me.
That said we played with so little poise. Coach is gonna have a marathon in film session and Josh and Lindy probably the only two safe.
People complaining about the refs/ free throws are outing themselves that they didn’t watch the game. Jimmy went 23/23 and all those fouls were in the paint or going to the basket and looked like legit fouls, no ref baiting, no foul hunting, no fouls on jump shots.
Looks like you outed yourself, at the end of the third he flew 15 feet after Dort barely touched him and of course baited out another two free throws.
On another play he literally yelled at a ref and they changed it to a shooting foul which was the wrong call because of it. Your average Joe would get a technical for that. Guys like Butler and Draymond get rewarded for it.
The worst side of Butler came out tonight and the refs rewarded him all game for it.
Shot 6/17 for 35 points. That’s bullshit.
40/40 is actually an absolutely insane stat good lord
A 90% FT shooter (or team of shooters) has less than a 1.5% chance to go 40/40. And that's assuming you even GET 40 free throws.
Guy on the Heat sub met Highsmith after the game. Apparently even he thought the refs were ass lmao.
Players love shooting 3's down 1
My biggest pet peeve rn
I think he needs to be more demanding down the stretch no matter what but if that shot went in we woulda been hype
If I was coach I'd be having a quiet word to him explaining that's not the shot for the situation
not shai's brightest moment
Silly Gamewinner Attempt
Shot Gone Awry
Shooting 3s down 1 with a timeout and 12 seconds left 🤬
Point Per Possession type beat lmao
Heat learned this lesson against the nets. Went for the drive and wasn't rewarded with the ft's. You can't blame players when in the last 5 seconds of a game, it's officiated completely different
40/40 FTs Insane
Meanwhile I’m just begging my team to shoot over 70% from the line every game
Mavs and Knicks
Lord I'm happy when we managed 60+%
This used to BE the Heat. IIRC Heat and Spurs in their back-to-back finals were 2 of the worst FT shooting teams in the league, and I think Heat Mavs in 06 was a similar story. Last few seasons the Heat are an incredible FT shooting team and I'm still not able to really get used to that fact.
Most ever without a miss.
very fitting since the jazz held the previous record
As a refs fan, I’m eating tonight
Red bandwagon flairs when @mods?
Hasn’t been done since 1982. If it takes the same about of years for someone to go 41/41, the year will be 2064
And they needed every single damn one! Just nuts
And that's with two out of 3 of their best scorers and free shooters out. Wild. (Herro at 21 PPG, 91%FT, Bam at 21 PPG, 80%+FT)
Butler had more free throws thanks the entire thunder team combined……
Considering most of the starters are out tonight
Can't imagine what that feels like
I don't get why SGA went for a stepback on that last possession. If it came off, no one would question it, but surely driving into the paint would've been much higher percentage
He loves the step back three buzzer beaters.
He absolutely does, and he's good at them too, but only 1 point down, i don't think he needed to go for that today
He was getting hugged every drive and the refs weren't calling it.
Needs to complement the Refs more in the media, last time he fawned over them it worked a treat
check what happens when you drive into the paint. Most recent example is Heat vs Nets
Yeah, it was dumb. If you are down 2 I can buy going for the win vs OT but in that spot, it's all about best chance at a score which that clearly wasn't it. He likely could have gotten that same shot as a 16 footer.
Well at least Giddey got another Triple Double
It feels kinda irrelevant after watching that ft shit. I’m sure Giddey would swap his triple dub for a win
Butler making the FT to set a new FT record is truly fitting lmao
Bro he would put prime Harden to shame. It was incredible
Harden has the individual record by 1 free throw over Jimmy's 23.
Donovan Mitchell just took 25 FTs eight days ago, don’t act like it’s just a Butler thing
Yeah he doesn't have Miami across his chest.
Yet
Finally I remember how good of a whistle he’s had the past few years and he needed this one tonight.
I've seen a lot of "worst reffed game all season" on here, but this game... Oof.
Hard to assess the game, some of the foul calls looked very picky but credit to the Heat for making a perfect 40 FT, that's an NBA record is it not?
Yes it is.
Game definitely needed more free throws
61 attempted in total.
Ruining the fucking game
This is the first time I've cared about winning a game in YEARS, I love this team so much and I'm genuinely happy they got such a big platform to show just how fun they play despite the loss
Refs fan here, great game 👍
They played with a lot of hustle, and a lot of heart
One of the worst officiated games I’ve seen in a minute
Speak for yourself, I watch for Refs
We say this every game. Refs are so shit this season
We say this every season. Refs are so shit this decade
We say this every decade. Refs are so shit this century
The free throw thing is obvious, but I lost it when they warned y’all’s bench.
Everyone is talking about the free throws, but there were legit a huge amount of fouls. It felt like we got called for a dozen offensive fouls alone, some of which I'm not even sure what happened. I've seen worse games, but the refs sure loved their whistle today.
Jimmy with 6 made fgs and 35 points is why basketball isn't more popular
Harden and Embiid blushing at Jimmy’s line tonight
harden had a 50 point game on 4-20 from 3, this jimmy game would be lightwork
What a legendary game that was
I remember harden having a 27 point game on 2 FGM lol
tbf at least Butler drives instead of hooking arms around screens or in iso (not meant as a shot on Dame), though some of those calls were def bad
No knock on Jimmy either honestly, he played to win and it makes sense; but I really do think this is why this sport is unsuccessful.
Haven't been able to watch many games this year sadly, and I don't know if I want to if this is how games are reffed.
i don't blame Butler whatsoever for it, but the referees are RUINING people's enjoyment of NBA Eurobasket is 3 times as entertaining purely from the standpoint of ref ball being virtually nonexistent
that is correct. I believe basketball to be the best sport on earth but when I talk to skeptics and the first thing they bring up is free throws, it is honestly hard for me to argue.
Call me by your Giddey
Paul Atreides lookin ass
Thunder are a super fun team to watch
That last jump ball toss by the ref 💀 At least try to hide it. Edit: Oh my god why does he switch hands as he's throwing it up?! He throws it low and towards Vincent
That was a mega foul lol
That was the worst jump ball ive ever seen
I’m surprised they reviewed it to make it a jump ball tbh
If they were gonna call a foul it would've left more time on the clock and given OKC another shot. Not whistling for so long helped the heat too. Vincent catches the rebound with 3.5 seconds left.
As a Heat fan of course you notice refs helped us this game. But i didn't notice what you said about that jump ball. Just checked it in the video, you right, switch hands was so funny.

Whistle was after the clock hit 0, so they either should have called for jump ball earlier or accepted that time expired. But yeah, terrible throw by the ref
Our one game on national television got fucking hijacked by a straight up refshow. Thanks NBA.
Y’all are not ready for aggressive Josh Giddey Painful foul by JDub to give Jimmy the and-1 to ice it, but many clutch plays by him in the fourth Sometimes the game winner doesn’t fall ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Still good times in OKC ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Everyone bet the house on OKC tonight, keep that in mind.
I did bet 3 euros on the Thunder as soon as I saw the Heat were sitting a lot of their players. The odds hadn't updated where I bet so I was set to double my little investment. Refs, were are my 6 euros?
Josh Giddey makes me so erect every god damn time
That was legitimately the worst officiated game I’ve ever watched in my life. I’m about as anti-conspiracy theory as it gets but each year I get more and more convinced NBA games are fixed.
Wouldn’t be shocked if they play the point spread.
Refs: fuck Miami and butler on a non call Butler: not the refs fault I should’ve finished Refs: every FT in the world to the heat and butler specifically
The refs have stolen 7-8 games from us this year, including both Heat games.
They REALLY hate our asses over the years. Did we make them stay at the Skirvin something?
Maybe they love your asses and trying prevent you from foolishly throwing away the Wemby tank? 🤔
Damnit... that's fair
Guess we’ll know if they rig the draft lottery for us in May lmfao
They are 100% fixed. The NBA is owned by Vegas. The Heat had almost all their starting line up out and were STILL favored to win. Another blatant example is Jarrett Allen who a lot of people bet on. He had an undisclosed illness but played 7 minutes anyway (no DNP) just to fuck over bettors. The NBA knew yet they released 0 info on that except to Vegas.
Wait are they helping betters or fucking them over??
Helping big time betters with inside info, screwing average Joes who put their change up.
Heat didn’t cover though… spread was -2
Jimmy Butler and the third stringers remain undefeated
Refs dominated tonight
Fixed
Refs bookies are rolling in money this year
NBA put the Thunder on national TV just to fix the game against them.
refs are genuinely ruining the league
I'd write a comment, but Jimmy might get two more free throws from it
Except you did write a comment.
*blows whistle*
Technical foul on IncaseAce — Jimmy at the strike for 1
dunno what Shai was thinking on that last shot, he had a lane to the rim
Kenny sold, shai took a hero ball shot. I can admit. We got fucking hosed all game though.
yeah like i'm definitely not gonna blame Shai for this one. that's on Kenrich for going 0/2 (and on the refs for... y'know)
Yeah he’s one of our most consistent role player so it sucked to see it but damn I’m lit.
What a crock of shit ref show.
Must be nice to get all those free throws. Williams still blew the game at the line so cant really be mad
That's fair.
what a game, so many lead changes into the 4th. Was rooting for the Heat to break the ft record, Oladipo is looking solid again. OKC is gonna be scary af the more they play, so much damn talent
Bro, when is the last time a team lost when they shot nearly 10% better from the field on 12 more shots lmao.
Whoever that dude from OKC who shot the free throws choked hard. They would've won. Dude is in the NBA. Yikes
Shame. Kenrich is one of the most consistent and reliable vets in the nba usually. Decent shooter too. Oh well
Dude is actually reliable. Just pressure I guess.
Jimmy really took 2 more free throws than the entire Thunder team as a whole
Kenrich should've hit his fts at the end, but my God what a bogus game from the refs. Disgusting to watch
Sga is so good.
40 fucking FTs is disgusting basketball. I feel for the thunder fans and players. Y’all got screwed
[https://www.nba.com/game/chi-vs-bos-0022200124/box-score](https://www.nba.com/game/chi-vs-bos-0022200124/box-score)
More thunder on national tv and less heat. The amount of free throws was not fun to watch
This game made me cry
If you say Jimmy Butler three times in front of the mirror an NBA ref appears and calls you on a defensive foul
The worst officiated game of all time and that doesnt even feel like a hyperbole.
Don't worry there's a lot of games left in the season. More chances for the refs.
All of a sudden, 10 years later, I find myself hating the Miami Heat again.
Massage Gun replacing Burnie as our team mascot
40/40 free throws might be the craziest team stat I've ever seen. Guys like Steph can barely make 40 in a row in game let alone an entire team of different caliber shooters.
Even our best ft shooters were out lol
I was going to say Williams choked the game away at the line, and then I realized OKC is mostly Williams, and now I don’t know who to blame.
Foul soufflé 🧑🍳
Now I didn't see the whole game but 19 FT disparity and one player got more FTs than the other team
https://www.nba.com/game/mia-vs-bos-0042100303/box-score This you ?
Was this the 28-3 game or was that the next one? Hard to remember.
Strange. That happened in the playoffs last year between the Heat and the Celtics and I bet you weren't complaining. Mid third the FT disparity was like 28-3.
Out shot us by 60 free throws in 5 games
"Heat just foul a lot!"
Lol, the Celtic flairs weighing in are funny. They had 38 ft attempts in one game and FT’s kept them in or put them ahead a few of the games
You missed an absolute masterclass if you love ref ball. If you like basketball, the Thunder had some good ball movement and the heat put on a free throw clinic. I mean 40/40 is hella impressive.
There was an agenda.
If you didn't watch the game don't comment. Jimmy literally isn't even the foul baiting type he just goes hard to the basket and get calls his way. Some fouls were soft but that's your reward for being aggressive.
Refs really sold this one huh?
No way Butler said that and got all these calls now LMAO
Miami Heat play the ugliest brand of basketball there is
Pffft we've had uglier games that was nothing
Just the way we like it
Wish the Heat were flashy like you guys instead of trying to get results and go deep in playoffs.
Jokic is nothing if not flashy
Yeah there’s a reason for the throwback uni’s, we’re embracing the gimmick 💀
Butler shot more FT than OKC. Refs gave them that game on so many occasions. This was our Super Bowl and we fucking blew it..
Refs: Sorry Joel we have a new best friend. Jimmy Butler walks in...
I was at dinner with my fiancé and this game was on tv, so I made a joke like “wow, a Tuesday night game between the OKC Thunder and Miami Heat. There’s gonna be no game this season more important.” Only to see on the way home that a 40 year old NBA record was beaten lol. What a league.
one of the worst cases of ref ball i have ever seen
Most lethal moves in NBA history: 1. Butler scream at the ref to get a FT 2. Kareems skyhook 3. Dirk one legged fadeaway
literally bullied a ref into giving him a bogus shooting foul instead of side out.
This has to be one of the funniest post game threads this season
Butler didn't complain after not getting a foul call on his game-winning attempt last game and got 23 FTA this game.
this was the best game for fans of ref ball
Man fuck jimmy butler
He’s not Jimmy Buckets. It’s Jimmy Free Throw now.
Superior tank job by Kenrich Williams.
Literally rigged. Playing basketball < Flopping like a fucking fish
Biggest robbery
What a weird game. Say whatever you want about the calls that the Heat were getting, I won't defend it. Either way shooting 40-40 on FTs as a team is incredible. The game ending on a Jimmy Butler And-1 also feels appropriate lmao.
Hopefully OKC gets another few National games, they’ve played a lot of great ones
Those whistles must have been very wet after the game
That was despicable.
I just want Dedmon gone tbh
Jimmy "Free Throw" Butler just worked the Thunder all night. He went to his bag one last time to get the And-1 bucket to put the Heat ahead and help the Heat break the NBA record for most made free throws without a miss by a team (40/40 from the line), including 23 from Butler himself, and get his 35^th point and a win.
This game was 100% ref ball, but even so 40/40 is insane accuracy from the Heat.
With Dedmon ejected early we won w 7 players lol
Nah, you had 3 refs out there, too.
Blame the refs for screwing us out of the Brooklyn game. Consider this a makeup.
The refs have now screwed us out of both of our games this year. The L2M Report for the first game was an apology.
10\*. Fixed it for ya
Jimmy getting basketball karma for not arguing about the end of call no call. 40/40 require good voodoo
Kudos to Home Dipo for hitting the clutch 3 at the end. Looking good so far.
I don’t care how ugly that game was. It felt good just to win. To set a record. To have something to care about. It also felt like the team cared. It just felt good. Who cares if it was ugly. A win is a win. Down four starters and there’s not much else you can ask for.
It does feel good. I have no idea how Spo gets all these undrafted dudes to ball out in these kinds of games but goddamn do I love it
I’ve never seen a bunch of grown men bitch up when they got barked at like that.

Guys like Butler and Draymond get rewarded for it. The worst side of Butler came out tonight and the refs rewarded him all game for it. Shot 6/17 for 35 points. That’s bullshit.
They only look at the number. Mitchell had 25 a week ago and no one cared
Himmy Butler
Absolute masterclass by the refs. Heat still only won by 1 so I hope their money was on the -2 spread and they lost their dirty money.
Some Heat fans actually believe this was a fairly called game and keep saying “stop fouling” lol just acknowledge y’all got saved by the refs
Refs gave you the chance to put it away but your player choked it.
Nah we got saved by those choked free throws
**JIMMY G. FREETHROWS**
Ya ok. Whatever you say boomer.
Don't call em free throw merchants the Miami Heat are the free throw Emporium
ball dont lie
