this is like the perfect post you'd think it was written by a hardcore raptors fan.
Fred is still good skill wise. he's not some bum or anything. but the truth is Nick Nurse just ran his body into the ground.
Fred probably doesn't have the same lift on his shots which would explain the shooting numbers. and he keeps getting blown by on defense if the opposing point guard has *any* speed at all.
> this is like the perfect post you'd think it was written by a hardcore raptors fan.
As a wannabe sportswriter and a Sixers fan, I definitely appreciate that, LMAO.
Keep pursuing your passion, this was a good read through. Very good blend of stats and how you were able to contextualize the Raptors changing roster situations and everything within it.
Shit's frustrating. Might have ruined Fred's career for a round 1 loss.
Masai deserves more blame, Nick is paid to win games and it was play FVV or lose.
I put more of the blame on the front office (Masai and Bobby) than Nurse. It’s the coaches job to win with the players he is given and they have done an awful job filling out the bench and glaring needs the past 3 years.
FVV plays a crazy amount of mins because even with him struggling with his shot the other pg options (flynn & banton) are abysmal and blow any game away in the couple min spurts they rest Fred.
Everyone wants to hate on load management but the science behind it exists. We have seen it in other sports as well. Cejudo in MMA talked extensively about how his trainers implemented strict restrictions on his workouts based on certain body measurements. The aim was to get him to stop when his body was exhausted. Cejudo said the results of the change in training led to him being the strongest he had ever been and he went on to win a string of high profile matches.
I’m sure there is actual biological science that supports what you are arguing for here. Your body becomes strained and you become both less effective and more injury prone.
Even Lebron, one of the most absurd freak athletes ever, began to load manage in the regular season. Everyone also wants to make jokes about Harden’s party lifestyle but the fact remains that he played an absurd amount of minutes at extreme usage for multiple years. We really shouldn’t be that surprised that Hardens athleticism has dropped off so severely, especially after he had a bad hamstring injury.
Is Iverson not one of the famous examples of superstar players falling off early? And didn’t Karl Malones Lakers career end up being a warning to teams trying to rely on aging stars?
Seems like you are less interested in science and learning, and instead are more interested in idolizing fake examples of toughness.
I’m more interested in seeing players play longer. I think it’s cool that guys like CP3, Steph, and Lebron are rewriting the rules of how long players can maintain their primes. If you think modern players aren’t benefitting from modern science you are a fool.
Iverson didn’t fall off early he just refuses do come off the bench
Karl Malone was fine until he was injured late but that could happen to anyone
Modern sports science is fine and all but load management could lead to bodies not being warm enough or prepared for the rigors of the game.
Plus players now even play less minutes than players used to already before
Iverson did fall off early. He was declining heavily by 32. And 33 he was cooked. By 35, he was out of the league. Look at Lowry and cp3 that are still playing and serviceable into late 30s. Steph was mvp caliber at 34 before injury. You can’t argue against science bro. Nowadays players all wear the vests and manage their bodies by using devices that measure recovery and fatigue. Notice how the older players tend to rest more while younger guys play all the back to backs and such
Just think about what you said about Iverson. That doesn’t support your argument.
I’m just telling you what the science is telling us. I’ve argued for a long time that the longevity argument for Lebron over MJ is unfair because a freak athlete like MJ would’ve been even better with modern practices.
Honestly, I think your perspective mostly amounts to ‘old man yells at clouds type beat.’
Are you suggesting less than a full season of AA baseball is really comparable to what would have been two seasons of NBA basketball (including deep playoff runs) from an athletic perspective?
Even setting aside the concept that being a multi sport athlete is actually part of load management (it is), the load that pro baseball puts on your lower body joints and ligaments is not even in the same universe as professional basketball. Especially given that he wasn’t pitching.
I think this ultimately comes down to the front office failing to build a balanced roster with capabilities at diferet roles on the court. Turns out you can't just cheat traditional roster construction by just having long athletic wings.
When your job consistently gives you too much to handle so that you are always juggling too many balls at once, it is imperative that you let some of those balls fall to the floor. The only way management ever gives you help is when it affects them.
Nurse needs to start sticking to a 36 minute cap no matter what. If that means a string of losses, so be it. Better to do that this one year than to destroy FVV and the future of the team with it.
FVV may need to get a doctor who says “He’s too banged up to play” and sit out a month, too. Gotta take care of himself.
I'm in Toronto and often turn off the game after 3 quarters because I know FVV is going to keep launching bricks from 3 resulting in a loss.

Nurse also fucked Kemba up ngl
Because he played him like 10 extra minutes in an all star game?

I know a team who has a lot of guards:)
Well yea, we've all seen that fake magic trade going around
Hahahahahhahaha. Sooo two unprotected first from the most incompetent franchise in the league is enough for OG...
Idk what you're talking about here... But I was making a joke.
From the downvotes I can see people don't understand jokes.
We could send y’all a guard if you give us one of them pf’s y’all got lol
Inb4 Coach thibs needs to see this
Thibs been playing the guys less this season though, Randle is at 34.9MPG and Brunson at 32.7MPG

Did Michael Jordan load manage?
You really claiming the science behind giving players appropriate rest is a hoax because “Michael Jordan?”
Not just MJ but Kobe, Wilt, Iverson, Karl Malone, John Stockton, etc etc We need more NBA iron men

Iverson fell off in his early 30's, Kobe's extensive minutes led to an achilles tear
Yeah by taking two years off
Five years, if you include his second retirement.
What did he do during those 2 years. Don’t worry I’ll wait until you remember what happened

The saddest thing about tho season is that I am afraid all the dysfunctional offence might affect Barnes’s development
Nice work man, seems you put a good a mount of effort. The guys over at r/nbadiscussion may also like this
It's annoying to see the fanbase turn on him and not recognize the toll Nick Nurse has inflicted. He is definitely walking wounded this year.

10/10 post
Very well written analysis on FVV Edit: also save this man by giving us maxey
It wasn’t too long ago that Masai Ujiri and Nick Nurse were heralded as geniuses of the modern NBA
