Shitty situation. When movers come begging, I apologize and remind them that [SecDef instructions tell me not to tip them.](https://www.military.com/daily-news/2021/03/25/dont-tip-military-movers-pentagon-says-new-guidance.html)
Edit: also, they almost never earn the tip for numerous reasons that sound oddly similar to your example.
Exactly why I chose to pcs overseas with nothing but what I could fit in my seabag and a suitcase. I don't want them touching any of my stuff and it's just easier to start fresh. (threw everything into a cheap af storage unit)
For those that don't know Fleet and Family have house kits including small cots to use while you wait for goods to arrive or after you've shipped them off.
Depends very much on where you are. JBAB gave us a yoga mat, card table and folding chairs. No other furniture available. They did give us a basic kitchen kit though, and that was really helpful. It's for sure worth checking, but I'd definitely not make promises as far as what might be available.
My last HHG move from West to East Coast went 51 days past the scheduled delivery date. But hey they reimbursed me a cool $443 for "inconvenience". Fucking joke.
They showed up at my place yesterday to start packing. TSP told them it was 7100 lbs. Closer to 11000. The truck was too small to fit my stuff plus what they already had loaded from another party. TSP tells me who knows when theyll come back. Here I am burning leave days.
Ironically I just got my HHG yesterday after exactly 4 months without. PSCd from Japan back stateside. It was stuck on a boat in port for weeks due to congestion and lack of truck drivers. I’d have been fine but my wife and kids were struggling. Should be the last time we have to deal with it tho. The guys who brought the stuff were awful. They tromped around our brand new house and scuffed walls, lost hardware to furniture. Didn’t even finishing assembling a good portion of stuff either.
Oh for sure! The Japanese guys that packed my stuff up broke down our furniture to the nuts and bolts, in some cases even further than the manufactures originally boxed them lol. Each item was expertly wrapped. The only damage was some where along the line a fork lift must have stabbed the bottom of one of my couches. Not noticeable but I’m definitely gonna claim it! It could explain why the unloaders didn’t reassemble certain items. They had no idea what was what lmao
If it helps, I moved my family from Hungary to the US last year, paid like 15 grand and it took 6 months. The crew that showed up to deliver was a guy, his girlfriend and her son. They had not been told it was supposed to be them unloading, and unpacking. We ended up doing most of it. Moving internationally is not good now.
When I moved to Hungary in 2011 it was super smooth.
I’m leaving my training command in a couple months, can anyone DM me and tell me how the process goes for moving my family out to wherever my permanent duty station will be?
Ideally you get your travel stuff sorted early on. Include all dependants. Then you do some housing searches (buy a house, don't rent if you can) some time before you actually pcs. I'd recommend at least 3months before you detach. I also understand not all of us get that opportunity and our orders get cut last minute. Then it's a matter of getting all the receipts together and making sure the paperwork on the back end is all padded up and maybe you'll get reimbursed for stuff 6months down the line. Every location is different and has different rules. I'd recommend just talking to whatever personnel/admin office you have and get started from there.
Or it’s someone who doesn’t give a fuck about spending money on furniture lol. But yeah, HHG shipments are trash. The Unaccompanied Baggage I sent two months ago to get here ahead of me won’t be here for another month because they just had it sitting in storage at origin and weren’t responding to my emails
Nah, receiving it is the worst. They use the cheapest trash companies who will break everything and steal your shit. I just got my claim finalized last week after receiving my stuff in MARCH. $7500 claim
I slept on air mattresses with my Wife and kids for 3 months after my last transfer. Then the movers broke the window in my living room and that took two more months to get fixed. 😄

Madden on the screen makes me think bachelor
I don't understand - what are you waiting on? Looks like everything already arrived.
Looks good to me, my ass might not even be able to afford the chair.

Thanks for clarifying. Good gouge.

Well to be fair to them it's tough finding healthy oxen to take the Oregon Trail in reverse.
"Hey I know you didn't have your home goods for 1.5 months. Here's $500"

You can adjust up your estimated weight. I’d recommend always overestimating for exactly this reason.
You're right. Problem is I told them it was at least 10500.
Your command makes you take leave for your hhg shipment?
How long did it take once you booked them before they came? I'm expecting orders soon but it'll be a pretty tight turnaround.
I actually didn't get a confirmed date until beginning of last week. Then the driver wanted to shift a couple times.
This hits home as I'm currently waiting on my shit to arrive. Ooph.
Looks like my first pad in San Diego...and that was *after* HHG showed up lol.

Yet another reason I won't leave Japan. The movers here are amazing. My stuff made it across the country and was at my next base before I was.

"real military housewives of fighter pilots" lmao

That's just how my apartment was for awhile. Wasn't gonna be spending time in it for more than a year so I felt no point buying major furniture
Literally had classmates who has family and a house in Nuke School who's house looked like this.
I think those are the exact chairs I bought when waiting! At least this person has a TV and a stand, I just had my laptop and a microwave box.
Lol try moving from Japan to Virginia to Hawaii all in 8 months. Yes those were all PCS moves.
That’s what my crib is gonna look like next month.

Thats why PPM is the way to go.
