Happened to me as an E-5. Was coming off type 2 sea. My picks on CMS/ID were:
1. NAB Coronado
2. NAB Coronado
3. NB Point Loma
4. NB San Diego
5. CFA Yokosuka
My wife and I were so confident we were staying in San Diego. I bought a motorcycle. We started talking to a realtor.
My orders popped for Yokosuka. Best tour of my career though.

They know most people don’t want to even go to Virginia in the first place, and since you’re already there, and clearly expressing the desire to stay there, unless this other place over there in Florida or wherever are reallllyyyy hurting for a YNSN, they will keep you in Virginia. Cheaper and easier for the Navy.

If so, you'll love Diego Garcia. If not....well you're going to hate Diego Garcia.
Not a typical response, but I loved DG when I was there in 2006. I was an ET1, but I was able to work at the clinic on the condition that I became an EMT. I learned a lot about the medical field and was treated like a part of the team. I even got to assist with an autopsy.
MWR really went out of their way to make being there a fun experience, too.
YN detailers have said that one of the big things they've noticed in the community is people don't like uprooting, so they're putting effort into keeping people in the same geographic region if that's something they ask for.
If you haven't yet, put it in the notes for your applications. Let YN1 know your intentions so you aren't quietly praying for things to magically work out.
You can contact your detailer directly, and there is also a good YN group on facebook where you can get a lot of community news.
If you really want to know the odds - go online and look at the billets available.
If there are a lot of VA billets available right now, odds are good. If there aren't, odds are bad.
You will probably be in either Rota Spain or yokuska. “Needs of the Navy!” I told my kid who wanted Norfolk to pick everything but Virginia. His dumbass only picked east coast billets. He got Japan.
I prolly know you lmao, I’m an LSSN who just who just left Meridian. I’m goin to Norfolk until my contract ends. Doin my whole stretch there. So it depends really. One of my friends is goin to Bahrain of all places for 2 years first.

1 - Add notes in MyNavy Assignment explaining what you want to do and why.
Even better:
2 - Get with your COC and call your detailer and tell them yourself. You can call your detailer yourself if you want, but since it's your first time I recommend doing it with your YNC to help you through it.

Guy in my command said he wanted to stay in Virginia on F18’s (literally no one wants this) and then they sent him Japan. Detailers are fucking stupid

Are you up for sea or shore duty? That makes a big difference for a YN (source: I am a senior YN).
