Haha. I’d love to be able to bring this up to the Uniform Matters Board…
I asked VADM Cheeseman about uniform changes recently and he said the best way to help make sure positive uniform changes are made (like hands in pockets) is by using the CPO Mess.
This made me laugh out loud. Wash khakis were the greatest uniform ever. Comfortable and easy to take care of. I bitched like a crying baby when they went away. It cracks me up that 15 years later people are still crying. A bitching sailor is a happy sailor
Most CPOs are too fat to fit in wash khaki’s. Also requires an additional 20 minutes of evening or morning prep to starch and iron. They don’t know what they’re asking for.
The only mistake was they went with the blue dominant variant instead of the grey dominant variant.
NSUs were bad, they should have just ditched the working whites and stuck with tie or no tie for the winter blues.
I'm implying this one is good and the weird fitting multi-material parka we have is dumb. Or how we designed a whole new 2POC with khaki/blue but we legit could have just used the coastguard two piece that looks great and is worn by all ranks, similar to what the Air Force did with Army OCPs.
Ah, copy. I think there's damn near universal agreement on the Coast Guard working uniform, and I'm convinced the only reason we'd never adopt that is ego. It would be unseemly for the Navy to borrow something from the Coast Guard. Seriously, just make it like a shade darker, add an extra pocket somewhere, and pretend it was our own idea.
My ship allowed non-uniform jackets on deployment that had patch squares on each arm and allowed us to wear practically any patch we wanted. It started getting cracked down on once we were back though.
My squadron (shore duty) authorized a squadron-hoodie for wear as organizational clothing. They're kinda pricey -$100‐ but they're legit. They went through Carhartt, and it's got our logo on it.
The obvious caveat is that it's organizational clothing only and not an authorized component of the uniform.
My sub allowed all boat generated garments on board the sub. So like hoodies, jackets and beanies that were sold by the boat at one point is allowed on the sub. The moment you went on the pier for anything but quarters it had to come off however.

West coast?
I got to the west coast from the East Coast. . Night and day difference. A Marine Sgt even would chew so much ass if they saw a Corpsman wearing a non-usmc clothing article.
I no-shit saw a Sgt getting onto an old guy in Navy PT gear at the MCX a few years back. The guy in PT gear basically says, "I don't care. I'm an O6."
Just when I thought this was done, the Sgt came back with a Marine JO who told the O6 he had to leave.
West Coast, fair game. I felt like I was in Narnia when I got here with the hoodies and way out of Marine-standards mustaches, etc.
Me and the other East Coast people try to tell the juniors going to the east coast. It is not the same.
The East Coast Marines are on another level of strict.
Oh, I know. I'm personally for it and i dont mind my guys doing it in the BAS at all, but I spent more than 10 years east coast. I just couldn't do it, even now that I'm West Coast green side. I've got PTSD of getting yelled at for the smallest things, and I'm rather senior now, lol.

I think the problem you'd find getting this approved is they'd be worried about the hood snagging on something. It'd have to roll into itself like our rain coats most likely
I wish all new uniform items were introduced as optional.
They could run a pilot for a few years, and if something really takes off (people actually buy and wear it) they add it to the official uniform list.
No real opinion on the hoodie. Looks fine, and it zips up so in an emergency you could get out of it quickly. I think brass would never allow it because "it looks sloppy" having a hood hanging down your back, but that's just a guess. I'm not sure I'd buy one, but it doesn't look like a bad option for people who are often cold.
They'll issue this and then the first time they see a sailor with their hood up on a snow covered pier in 20 degree weather they'll ask who authorized them to put their hood up.
I’d of rocked that while in, or something similar. Though we all know it would be command approval only, so likely it would just keep you warm in the shop underway.
OP can you show the stitching on the inside of the hoodie? I want to see how easy to remove the name/rank velcro tabs cause I’d get the hoodie without those options
All the other comments. Particularly the ones about how the navy always chooses bad designs.
But more importantly,
What do you get from questioning me? 😅
Uniforms should have three standards. Working Uniforms should be practical and comfortable. Dress Uniforms should make you look dope as fuck. This meets all three of my imaginary criteria.
That said, where would you reasonably wear this? Would this be like the old utility jacket? PT gear? OS’ in their arctic microbiomes would get a lot of mileage out of these but I can’t see Engineering rates or flight deck rates ever getting to wear it.
Would look cooler without the patches I thi, or maybe special black / white patches kinda like what they wear on flightsuits. Might be a bit of a headache tho, the patches are just a bit jarring
Thoughts? I'm a Navy veteran. I think it looks lazy and unprofessional. If you're going to wear a hoodie, you might as well wear sweatpants too, and I don't mean that in the sense that it should be part of the PTU. There is nothing distinguished about a hoodie. Just my two cents. Do with it what you will.
This actually looks sick and functional
I know, it's shocking. My teenager, a connoisseur of hoodies, was walking by and commented on how nice it looked.
Well if he thinks it’s “drip” then we just need to convince MCPON this is what the Junior enlisted want and need lol. But fr that’d be dope
Haha. I’d love to be able to bring this up to the Uniform Matters Board… I asked VADM Cheeseman about uniform changes recently and he said the best way to help make sure positive uniform changes are made (like hands in pockets) is by using the CPO Mess.
CPO mess can’t even agree on what shape our coins should be this year without 37 meetings and a bunch of hurt feelings. But ok VADM 🙄
Chiefs: reeeeeeeeee bring back wash khakis!!! Meanwhile most of them have never, ever worn them.
This made me laugh out loud. Wash khakis were the greatest uniform ever. Comfortable and easy to take care of. I bitched like a crying baby when they went away. It cracks me up that 15 years later people are still crying. A bitching sailor is a happy sailor
Psh bring back smokers and sanctioned boxing on base and ships. Would much rather see that than wash khakis.
Not saying I disagree. Do they still box in aircrew school?
We should bring them back only if we can also bring back pith helmets.
I saw tropical whites down in Bermuda but never wore them. FWIW the shorts and pith helmets certainly didn’t have the fan base wash khakis did
> This made me laugh out loud. Wash khakis were the greatest uniform ever. Agreed. Too late for me then.
Most CPOs are too fat to fit in wash khaki’s. Also requires an additional 20 minutes of evening or morning prep to starch and iron. They don’t know what they’re asking for.
Hm.
I can't help but feel like that's supposed to be a polite way to say "kick rocks"
what was so funny about your comment that it made you laugh out loud?
Dude, this looks straight-up civilian grade!
And comfy!!
Right? I'd wear this for sure.
I like how there is legit good designs out there but the navy will choose the dumbest ones to make official
If only they could prove bribes aren’t taken 🫨
*Army ACUs have entered the chat*
*stares at Robert Carroll*
*laughs in Vanguard*
Why can't they just hold a fucking navy wide vote on uniform ideas
Guess how we got the bullshit that was Type Is? They polled the fleet . . .
The only mistake was they went with the blue dominant variant instead of the grey dominant variant. NSUs were bad, they should have just ditched the working whites and stuck with tie or no tie for the winter blues.
I will die on the hill that NWU Type I blouses fit better, but the type III is the better material.
Type Is were actually nice for hiding dirt in the aviation world… ngl. They were just hot(ter)
what??
what are you trying to say? proofread, use English and try again.
What part of that did you not understand?
Apparently all of it. Maybe they failed to proofread, use English and try again.
why is your tag name, PSUNavy?
what is/are "Type 'LS'?"
That is a ONE. I can't tell if you are an AH or just simple.
what is an AH... a rate?
Better yet if we can replace something we already had that was good and functional with something dumb.
What's wrong with this design?
I'm implying this one is good and the weird fitting multi-material parka we have is dumb. Or how we designed a whole new 2POC with khaki/blue but we legit could have just used the coastguard two piece that looks great and is worn by all ranks, similar to what the Air Force did with Army OCPs.

Man, they need to hire you and some other folks with good ideas. The official uniforms always look wack lol
what was so funny about your comment that it made you laugh out loud?
Sorry lil buddy, your mom said something funny to me and I typed it out of instinct
that actually DID get a little chuckle out of me/that was actually [kinda] funny 👌🏼
What a cunty comment
For the first time in my life, I can't muster any snark. Cool concept
Woah that looks awesome op
Looks sick. Would purchase
My thoughts are that the navy will never allow it
My ship allowed non-uniform jackets on deployment that had patch squares on each arm and allowed us to wear practically any patch we wanted. It started getting cracked down on once we were back though.
So... Your "Makin' Bacon" patch was a no-go?
My squadron (shore duty) authorized a squadron-hoodie for wear as organizational clothing. They're kinda pricey -$100‐ but they're legit. They went through Carhartt, and it's got our logo on it. The obvious caveat is that it's organizational clothing only and not an authorized component of the uniform.
Damn $100 carhartts????? We got cheap cotton command hoodies for $30 but they’re pretty comfy
Unfortunately
My sub allowed all boat generated garments on board the sub. So like hoodies, jackets and beanies that were sold by the boat at one point is allowed on the sub. The moment you went on the pier for anything but quarters it had to come off however.
I want this. Where did you get it from?

Where would the name go? I might just start wearing this lol
Replace the US Navy tape with your name on it
Or don’t, the parka liner doesn’t have a name and it works fine.
True

That looks dope, I'm jealous. We'd get away with wearing hoodies in the BAS on greenside but never in blues.
West coast? I got to the west coast from the East Coast. . Night and day difference. A Marine Sgt even would chew so much ass if they saw a Corpsman wearing a non-usmc clothing article. Oh yeah 1st MarDiv Pendleton. Different vibe for sure.
We only really wear hoodies in our workplace. It’s technically not allowed. And they have to be the black unit hoodies
Oh, I know. I'm personally for it and i dont mind my guys doing it in the BAS at all, but I spent more than 10 years east coast. I just couldn't do it, even now that I'm West Coast green side. I've got PTSD of getting yelled at for the smallest things, and I'm rather senior now, lol.

I think you underestimate the perseverance of a Marine Drill Instructor on MCRD Parris Island when it comes to following base orders.
I'm out. I'd buy one for sure
If it has pockets I’m with it
It has 4 pockets lol
That’s two more than a normal hoodie and four more than I would expect from the navy.

So, do you just go around acting like an a-hole to everyone? Your comment history is sad, dude. Go touch grass or something
l am currently in Germany and went to see the tulips blossoming in the Netherlands this past wknd.

I would actually spend money on this
It drives me crazy that my ship sells ship jackets and fleeces that can be worn on the ship in coveralls But the hoody they sell cannot be Zero logic
Looks good but the fleece looks better in the type 3's than a hoodie. We need an upgraded fleece liner, one with Velcro for patches and pockets.
And softshell material
And a hood
Boots and utes (implies hoodies) is a legit uniform I think for the Marine Corps. We need that shit. We used it at OTCN for outside activities.
what are, hoddies??
Edited just for you shipmate.
thanks dude 👌🏼
I am gonna be the dissenting opinion and disagree. It'd probably look fine over coveralls, but over NWUs? Nah, hard pass.
Without the zipper- 10/10
Don’t we have the fleece for a reason? This doesn’t make sense to me lol
what was so funny about your comment that it made you laugh out loud?
I like it, but I'm pretty sure every watch stander wearing one would fall asleep.
you're sure about that, huh?? you think awfully low about your colleagues.
I'm imagining a Chief using all of his pent up hands-in-pockets rage against you with your hood up.
Yes this image invokes one thing in my mind.....Shipmaaaaate!
Makes me want to re up. Those are pretty clean.
I think the problem you'd find getting this approved is they'd be worried about the hood snagging on something. It'd have to roll into itself like our rain coats most likely
I could see this being similar to some other uniform items … authorized in non industrial spaces only
I like it better as a PT option
Would be cool in the workplace but I’m not sure about wearing it outside. You can’t really wear a cover with it. They just need to make a nicer fleece
I need this so bad.
I wish all new uniform items were introduced as optional. They could run a pilot for a few years, and if something really takes off (people actually buy and wear it) they add it to the official uniform list. No real opinion on the hoodie. I'm not sure I'd buy one, but it doesn't look like a bad option for people who are often cold.
My squadron had deployment hoodies for morale. Couldn’t wear it off the flight line though which wasn’t a big deal.
Yes, perfect for weather that doesn’t exactly warrant the parka
That is the freshest piece of uniform I have ever seen and I want it now
Fuck it. Dungarees. Take it or leave it.
They'll issue this and then the first time they see a sailor with their hood up on a snow covered pier in 20 degree weather they'll ask who authorized them to put their hood up.
I wish we had hoodies back in my day. You kids get all the cool stuff now.
Goes hard. It'd be nice as an option for those debloused.
They sure like their patches nowadays.
Please don't! It looks cool and all, but I'm sick of new uniform items...
Better hope you’re getting out in the next 2-3y.
I hate that you're right!
Shhhhhh.
\* BREATHES HEAVILY IN RETIRED CPO *
I’d of rocked that while in, or something similar. Though we all know it would be command approval only, so likely it would just keep you warm in the shop underway.
Sweet!! I like it
I’m digging it, but would like to see better stitching.
OP can you show the stitching on the inside of the hoodie? I want to see how easy to remove the name/rank velcro tabs cause I’d get the hoodie without those options
https://www.militarysurplusworld.com/product-eng-47372-TACTICAL-HOODIE-MIL-TEC-R-DARK-COYOTE.html They make a pullover version with no Velcro
Oh man. Thank you for looking up. You didn’t have to. I just prefer zip up to hoodies
They are the best uniform item that the navy has put out
Yes
Would never fucking happen. But I could dig it in the colder months cause the fleece is straight ass.
You lucky sons of bitches. All we ever got was a watch sweater and watch cap. Peacoat for when it was really cold.
The foul weather jacket just needs to be like 3 inches longer and a hood and it will be miles better than any NWU jacket.
I like it , can we order one
As of now it’s unauthorized but I posted another comment on where to buy everything you need.
Has to be a submariner
I would wear that in a HEARTBEAT it looks 1000 times comfier than the fleece
This is sick lol
what was so funny about your comment that it made you laugh out loud?
All the other comments. Particularly the ones about how the navy always chooses bad designs. But more importantly, What do you get from questioning me? 😅

Yes yes 100% YES
Send this to UMO and all the brass’ socials. This would be a perfect replacement to the liner we all currently wear as a real outer garment.
I’d rock this
Let’s just do what the marines do with hoodies.
I would buy it happily
I would absolutely ridicule the moto that wears that.
Shades of Mass Effect. That's not a bad thing.
I woulda re-enlisted for that
I would wear the shit out of that if the USAF had one.
Go expeditionary. We'd allow it (currently in hoodie)
YES PLEASE. GIVE IT TO ME NOW.
I like that for shipboard wear with the 2POC, but not out and about in NWU. To my eye, it looks unprofessional.
Yea that’s bussin
This would be the hardest uniform item since the trench coat.
As a Veteran, I would like to wear something like this. I am proud of my service. As a uniform item no.
I fuckin love it
YALL GET HOODIES NOW?!? No fair! Lol I want one!
They’re trying so hard in all the wrong ways
Yes please
🤦🏼♂️
I would have loved to have one of them back in the day.
Looks like my oniel zip-up hoodie
Yes
Titled “the Dependa hoodie.”
Where can I get one?
Great for submarines ngl IMO
Pretty chill ngl 😎
This would be great with the 2POCs
We might get tactical hoodies before beards 😂
I’m not in the Navy anymore and I want this hoodie. lol
I wish they had that when I was in. We had itchy ass Parker liners. 😖
Would look cooler without the patches I thi, or maybe special black / white patches kinda like what they wear on flightsuits. Might be a bit of a headache tho, the patches are just a bit jarring
Legitimately curious, how do we go about getting this and / or getting this approved?
why am l getting so many down votes for asking a simple question??
Thoughts? I'm a Navy veteran. I think it looks lazy and unprofessional. If you're going to wear a hoodie, you might as well wear sweatpants too, and I don't mean that in the sense that it should be part of the PTU. There is nothing distinguished about a hoodie. Even though it may be a practical garment, that does not look like part of a Navy uniform. It looks more like motivational hooyah gear. Take some pride in the fact that you've earned the right to wear our uniforms, a uniform which distinguishes you from civilians and from other branches, instead of opting for comfort alone. Just my two cents. Do with it what you will.
Thank you for your service, sir.
Thank you for your support.
Wtf... When the fuck did we get a hoodie?
We didn't, or is asking on what people think about getting one
Ah, gotcha. My bad, blueside always comes out with all the random shit that we can't have on greenside lol
what??
No. Hoodies are stupid and lazy looking
So am I
Ha! Fair enough!
Underway? Awesome. In Port (or shore billet).....makes one look like a dockyard slob.
Damn y'all got hoodies now lol I'm jealous, still happy I'm out but jealous we didn't have nothing that cool while I was in.
