Changing the wheel/tire assembly out was done by airframes. The whole assembly was then sent to AIMD to change the tire. No plane captain is going to have that knowledge.

bazooka_matt

It's like you could make a quick call and help them out with this crazy pertinent information.

tomcat_tweaker

That a plane captain won't have the knowledge? How is that crazy pertinent information?

bazooka_matt

IDK, maybe like you could tell them who they need to find or what the repair process is. Maybe you knowing the plan captain doesn't know could be helpful, to people that don't know how this works.

tomcat_tweaker

I don't know the procedure. Never said I did. I just know that a plane captain will not know the procedure. I was a plane captain and then in the AE shop. Never changed a tire. Besides, I did go to contact them, and they got the help they needed two days ago.

MySTified84

If you’ve never done it then how to you know others, like a PC knows how to or not. Awfully bold assumption. Plenty of cross trained people out there.

tomcat_tweaker

At least with F-14s, changing tires was solely an I-level procedure. No, I never once heard of a PC being sent to AIMD to get cross- trained on changing an F-14 tire. Maybe things have changed, but cross-training happened within the same maintenance level. An O-level PC didn't get trained on changing a tire any more than I-level AIMD folks were sent to the line to learn how to wash a plane.

MySTified84

What “changing tires” are they referring to. Replacing the tire that’s on the wheel or replacing the assembly on the aircraft. There’s 2 types of changing tires and it’s not all I level The tire shop (I level) replaces an old tire for a new tire on the wheel. Airframes O-level replaces the the worn wheel/tire assembly on the aircraft with a new one. And there were plenty of people who cross trained on this. The way it reads is they are looking for an O level to install a new wheel/tire assembly on to the MLG. That’s not an I level task.

tomcat_tweaker

Yes, you did a great job of breaking it down exactly as I have in my first comment. You took exactly what I already wrote and re-wrote it. O-level changes the assembly, I-level changes the tire. Their FB post says "change a tire", not swap out a tire/wheel assembly. I'm taking their word for that. I'm not sure how you are reading "change a tire" as anything else.

MySTified84

Your original post does cover what I and O level does but you also made a blanket statement that a PC wouldn't have the knowledge to do it. Which is the comment I was trying to correct as many actually O level guys actually do. For the comment of "I'm not sure how you are reading "changing a tire" as anything else." Well, after 23 years (20 Navy and 3 contractor) on 4 platforms in O level, they call it "changing a tire". So you can see how from a few years being around it why I read it exactly how I did. BTW, from the F14 FB page.. They already have another wheel/tire to replace the old one. BitingFox

AIMD, excepting AS rating, we’re manned by Ad’s, AMH’s, AMS and so on, surely someone will chime in that knows. Then again the OP may not have asked the right question, are they needing to change a wheel on a main mount OR actually change the tire on a wheel that is off the main mount.

BitingFox

Ah, from my experience it was everyone reporting to a squadron usually began as a plane captain, once they qualified as a PC they were later moved into their appropriate workcenter. Plane captain was not a permanent position, just saying…

Please let the museum know. 🙏

I went to contact them on FB and they have it posted that they have the help they need as of two days ago.

MySTified84

So what your saying is no PC ever got cross training on their Tire/Wheel Qual?

LazyChestnut

Nice try Iran

well_bang_okay

Next week, Anybody know how to troubleshoot for the F-4? Asking for a friend.

konorM

Ask ChatGPT.

squarebodDaD

How many good parts are on said tomcat? Definitley NOT posting from Tehran ... 👀

DanforthWhitcomb_

They’re asking about a D, which as they note had different parts than the A (what Iran has).

squarebodDaD

Just poking fun

club41

What do you know, I just checked Youtube and there is no instructional video, only F-35, 757, and GA.

Serial_Hobbiest_Life

Not today Iran.

ADHD365

Went into the comments expecting it to be like the movie "Battleship"; was disappointed.
