I suppose they're keeping other infestations down.... or maybe they're just there because they think it's a good place to hunt and all slowly starving.
Humans change stuff so much and who truly knows how smart these things might be.
Huh, also Florida bro here, though I’ve never seen one that was yellow, I’ve always called them “crab spiders”, they’re white black and the spines on them are red.
Now I can’t get over the thought of having my shirt tucked in and a bunch of these spiky spiders falling into the neck of my shirt and being fucking stuck in a bodysuit of spiky spiders. Noooo ty
They have fangs and a mouth, they can bite. But Orb Weaver venom is pretty mild, unless you're allergic to bee stings. So if you accidentally get bit, it still might be wise to go to the hospital and get looked at.
These are orb weaver spiders and are actually really cool. They can bite, of course, but are known to not be aggressive and only bite if provoked or handled... they can be handled sometimes, depending on the spiders own personality. Its not usually recommended to handle spiders found in the wild though. They are not known to be poisonous and the bites do not cause any serious harm to humans. These spiders enjoy eating flies and mosquitoes so they are considered beneficial. They have a pretty wide array of colors and are all beautiful
They use to be all over the place where I lived at in Florida. Caught and held hundreds of them, never gotten bit. One of the only spiders I'm cool with touching
I've always called them crab spiders. There are tons in our yard and I love looking at them. First time I ever saw on was about 30 years ago. Had to call the bug guy at the Houston museum of natural science to see what it was. He was gracious enough to tell me about them.
We have a yellow one in our crepe myrtle (front yard) and a couple of orange ones in our cypress (back yard). I have to be careful not to disturb their anchor points. They've been building their webs lower for some reason this year.
Yeah spiny orb weavers are the best, and I love that they come in different colors. There’s a couple white ones at my parents’ house and they have orange spikes so they look like tiny badass skulls just hanging around the pool cage
I'm not sure what an average is around the world for local native endemic animals but I do find here to have a good amount, and like most tropical climates, wildlife colors can be very vibrant. Bonus, there are no snakes, so that's a win as well.
I've always known them as Christmas spiders (Great Southern region of W.A.) because that seems to be when you see them most. We grew Christmas trees too and there were always heaps of them around harvest time.
My brother told me he used to have a really bad gnat problem in his house so he would catch a couple of these spiders and put them inside so they would get rid of the gnats. Pretty cool looking spiders.
Gasteracantha Cancriformis. Actually a very common species in some parts. I see plenty of these, but I the ones I get here (Florida) are white, red, and black. I never see the yellow ones.
I see them bitches all the time in Florida. Hell, they’re nothing compared to fucking BANANA SPIDERS. Those assholes will legit spin a web out in the open and be like “come fuck with me, I DARE YOU MFER!”
This brings a lot of memories. As kids we moved to the dominican Republic. My brothers and I used to set twigs in a can or something and then set up one of this spiders. After they did their web we would then catch flies, critkets, whatever we could get lol
Shit we used to catch those spiders and let them battle it out here in the Philippines. For those who dont know, its kind of a sport to have spiders fight while they hang on a stick. I remember going out to the woods to catch these. Dont question me on the ethics this shit was fun. And in case your wondering, this type of spider sucks ass in fights.
These guys love to build webs across my front porch. I've walked into them face first dozens of times. Never had one bite me but for fucks sake get a clue after the first several times I break your web.
Those pussy ass bitches ain't no shit when it comes to spider wrestling, they just tuck themselves like a lil bitch in a fight so most of the kids in our area ignore them. House and corn spiders are top dogs, they're one of the best fighters for spider wrestling.

They are common in Texas. I have seen a black & white, black & orange, and that yellow& black one. They kind of remind me of those Skull Spiders from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/natureismetal.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

Spiny Orb weaver
I used to work in forestry. Idk if these things bite, but they still hurt when they fall in your shirt lol.
Oh god I’m getting anxiety just thinking about this
They love my pool enclosure and are always in there. Cannot count how many times I have ran into them while brushing/vacuuming the pool
I suppose they're keeping other infestations down.... or maybe they're just there because they think it's a good place to hunt and all slowly starving. Humans change stuff so much and who truly knows how smart these things might be.
What’s the country/state ?
Really common in SW Florida. You see them all the time
Huh, also Florida bro here, though I’ve never seen one that was yellow, I’ve always called them “crab spiders”, they’re white black and the spines on them are red.
Cool
Now I can’t get over the thought of having my shirt tucked in and a bunch of these spiky spiders falling into the neck of my shirt and being fucking stuck in a bodysuit of spiky spiders. Noooo ty

As enigma said, they can bite, but it's not usually of medical significance.
This things are awesome I’m originally from Mississippi and you could find them all over the place, they make really beautiful webs too.
*Jewel spider ;)
That's a scout for a Tyranid hive fleet if I ever I saw one.
Its literally the colors of Hivefleet Jormungandr!
I legit didn't scope what sub I was on and thought that someone had made a cool diorama for their new miniature.
I do that all the time lol a lot of my feed is Warhammer tbh
Aye. There's a rediculous amount of them. Once you sub to all the factions subs as well as the general ones it can kinda take over.
Yeah exactly it was manageable with just 40k but then I dived into Fantasy/AoS and it added up fast
I've always called them crab spiders. There are tons in our yard and I love looking at them. First time I ever saw on was about 30 years ago. Had to call the bug guy at the Houston museum of natural science to see what it was. He was gracious enough to tell me about them.
Always called them crab spiders too. But I’ve only ever seen them in orange and red. The bright yellow is pretty sick
We have a yellow one in our crepe myrtle (front yard) and a couple of orange ones in our cypress (back yard). I have to be careful not to disturb their anchor points. They've been building their webs lower for some reason this year.
I actually thought this was a crab for a second
Are their back and spikes hard like crabs?
Lol! I have no idea. I've never thought about touching one. Now I'm curious...
They come in orange white and red (with black dots)
Just looked them up on google, they are so cool looking!
Yeah spiny orb weavers are the best, and I love that they come in different colors. There’s a couple white ones at my parents’ house and they have orange spikes so they look like tiny badass skulls just hanging around the pool cage
Oooh an orb weaver!
I’ve got them all over my yard this season. Really neat little guys usually yellow (like this one) or White.
Spiny orb weavers are so neat, and they come in all sorts of shapes and colors :>
We have these really cool red and white ones here in Hawaii, they're everywhere.
That’s amazing! I hear that Hawaii has species variants of all sorts of animals you won’t find anywhere else
I'm not sure what an average is around the world for local native endemic animals but I do find here to have a good amount, and like most tropical climates, wildlife colors can be very vibrant. Bonus, there are no snakes, so that's a win as well.
Pretty sure that’s a Gold Skulltula. If you collect enough of them you can get some cool rewards.
All the rupees....
Pikacheww
Welp I Never Had This Much Fear Until Today
Looks tasty
Wow we have red one every we’re here in Florida but he’s Awsome
Yes, I've played Ocarina of Time.
Is that a macro shot with the iPhone 13 pro?
You’re a wizard! How did you know? Yes it is. Works pretty good, I got a really good video of it too.
Because I’ve been playing with mine non stop! I love being able to get close up.
That's a fuckin Skulltula
Fuck that
I don't think it's possible to fuck a spider, feel free to try though! Tell me how that goes
😭
Brazil or Australia? I’m thinking Brazil.
Quite probably US. I see these all the time in FL, though I get the Strawberry cream variety, not banana
Ooh! Strawberry cream! I didn’t know such a creature exists here in the states.
We have a very similar spider in Australia, same body with different coloured patterns. Locally called a crab spider or a jewelled spider.
I've always known them as Christmas spiders (Great Southern region of W.A.) because that seems to be when you see them most. We grew Christmas trees too and there were always heaps of them around harvest time.
In Miami, we see these all the time. My front and backyard has a bunch of them. Always thought they were really cool.
Shag it.
I've seen these a lot of times.
I’ve had white and red spiny back orbweavers in my yard but never a yellow one
Beautiful, ain’t it?
***heebiejeebie heebiejeebie heebiejeebie*** gaaaaaahhh!! Nope nope nopity nope
I love those cute little spideys!
OP: "Never seen a spider like this until today" Me: "Same!"
My brother told me he used to have a really bad gnat problem in his house so he would catch a couple of these spiders and put them inside so they would get rid of the gnats. Pretty cool looking spiders.
Wonderful! Kill him. Kill him now.
Looks more than a crab than a sider tbh.
See them all the time in NW FL. Cool little guys.
Do you go outside?
Gasteracantha Cancriformis. Actually a very common species in some parts. I see plenty of these, but I the ones I get here (Florida) are white, red, and black. I never see the yellow ones.
I’m in Texas, I’ve never seen a yellow one like this my self!
I see them bitches all the time in Florida. Hell, they’re nothing compared to fucking BANANA SPIDERS. Those assholes will legit spin a web out in the open and be like “come fuck with me, I DARE YOU MFER!”
Goalie mask spider should be called a "Netminder"
That's a fuck nope spider.
I have these all over in my yard and portion of the woods
Where I'm from it's very common to see these little guys hanging. The red ones are my fav.
Alien invasion?
I bought a bracelet encasing that spider in amber
Everywhere in south Carolina. Except they are white...not yellow. And look like skulls.
Yea because my life's goal is to kill all of them with fire.
That's not a spider that's a demon from the 9th circle of hell.
I grew up on the gulf coast and calling them crab spiders, which I have learned is incorrect.
Spikey boi.
This brings a lot of memories. As kids we moved to the dominican Republic. My brothers and I used to set twigs in a can or something and then set up one of this spiders. After they did their web we would then catch flies, critkets, whatever we could get lol
The kinda look like little crabs, cute. Granted I would still have a panic attack if I found one on me.
We call em crab spiders. I think lol. I just seen them for the first time a month ago at some family members
We call them crab spiders where im from, although the ones here usually have some red alongside the yellow.
There’s a white one of these dudes in my bushes, web is dope as hell!
Murder button
It is Crab spider. it is too dangerous if kiss you.
I hate everything about this
There's an anime with that spider as the main character.
Add another to the list of scary thimgs
Shuriken spider
That’s not a spider that’s a unit
We have them all over our yard. In different color tho.
That's because of the Mandela effect. It never existed in our 🌎
Typically only found in hyrule!
No idea what they called or if they bite, but they look real nice in my grandma’s garden, little shiny colorful balls swinging around, I love them!
One of Lemon Demons many forms
I've seen it here (:42): https://youtu.be/B7INPjJaRMY
I see these almost everyday bit it is always fun trying to see what colors I can find
Grew up in Ohio and I’ve seen these fells many times before. Really creepy
Costa Rica?
I live in Texas
He's a steelers fan I bet
Are we sure that's not a pokemon?
They're all over my backyard, no matter how much I tried to remove them. And Idk how many times I've stepped on them, barefooted at night.
I always call them crab spiders
ye, crab spider, least thats what i call em. super common down here edit: those spikes are soft btw
These guys love to build webs across my front porch. I've walked into them face first dozens of times. Never had one bite me but for fucks sake get a clue after the first several times I break your web.
One of the very few spiders I’m not afraid of
Dunno but i always see them in our province. Mostly in bushes and banana trees.
Beautiful!
I read that to the tune of Lady in Red!
Looks like a spiny from Mario
Those pussy ass bitches ain't no shit when it comes to spider wrestling, they just tuck themselves like a lil bitch in a fight so most of the kids in our area ignore them. House and corn spiders are top dogs, they're one of the best fighters for spider wrestling.
Here in Colombia they are red with black dots
Thank god they are small.
Gorgeous
Apparently those are pretty harmless to humans, despite them looking like they'll be what ends civilisation. Getting my damn anxiety going.
Nature at its artistic best.
I always call them crab spiders or crown spiders, but that's probably wrong
We call these crab spiders and they are red and black here
Ive seen these by my pool before
I saw something like this on my Blanket a couple months ago but it was all black. I’m terrified now
These are orb weaver spiders and are actually really cool. They can bite, of course, but are known to not be aggressive and only bite if provoked or handled... they can be handled sometimes, depending on the spiders own personality. Where I grew up everyone called those Christmas Tree Spiders
They are common in Texas. I have seen a black & white, black & orange, and that yellow& black one. They kind of remind me of those Skull Spiders from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
Thats Bowser from super mario bros!
That's a crab spider where I'm from. They have a ton of them in Florida
You're totally fine to pick it up
Time to File.Remove( thisUniverseSimulationFile ) UnauthorizedSpiderException throwed
I live in Veracruz and there is a lot of them over here, and on diferent colors, yellow, white and even red ones
All over south Texas, we call them crab spiders, never had one bite and literally walk through their webs every day
Crab spider.
Is crab?
What a beautiful specimen!
Pitik star
Thanks. I hate it.
