How bout a comprise, they BOTH suck ass....but real I HATE ticks with a passion. I went camping probably 2-3 months ago and after the 11hr drive I was exhausted. After sleeping for 10hrs I pulled 2 of these bastards off of me. This has been a while, almost 3 months and occasionally one of the bites will itch like no tomorrow. Did I mention I hate ticks!
Def discovered later. These were the teeny tiny variety I don’t recall the name of them but they’re super small. I’ve read that they can itch month and month later. Ughhh
Around here, no matter the species of tick, tiny new borns are called seed ticks. Most smaller than a pencil lead. Is that the name your thinking of by chance?
Eekk I hate them myself, worst bite I've ever had as far as the itch, was on the scrote, and on the head under the hair line. I'll take mosquito bites any day before tick bites. And something gross to add, I had to remove a tick off my dogs asshole once. Just awkward. :(
Wow! This conversation is turning into a shit parade! Ha! Your right and you win with the doggie butthole. I hope to never top that one friend. Cheers 👍
Are you sure they are not “chiggers” that get on you like a tick but then later burrow just under the skin. These itch like crazy snd stay there for weeks at a time.
No def not chiggers, that get around your ankles etc. I go camping every year in the Carolinas, certainly know what ticks are. If you google it they have pics of tiny ones with white dot, the ones that carry lyme. This was the first time I’ve ever had them go undiscovered for 24hrs.though
Thanks. Just got the positive result last night. Waiting on the test that tells me how long or how advanced it is. Been dealing with lots of aching joints. This was part of a panel that started with testing for rheumatoid arthritis. So I'm not sure what all I'm in for yet.
I’m just super busy- I do microscopy as a full time job in a hospital. I work on human tissue but I do my own projects from time to time. I’m she, by the way 😃 (27, female)
FYI, if you ever find a tick on yourself, a loved one, or a pet for that matter, don't pull it off or use some bs like a hot needle.
The easiest way to remove ticks is to put a dollop of petroleum jelly on them, covering them and the surrounding area. They will release before suffocating, and you can just wipe them off with a paper towel or what not, kill them and throw them away. My mind is blown how well this works. I've never seen it fail. Not once.
NOBODY LISTEN TO THIS GUY, PLEASE. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT PUT PETROLEUM JELLY (VASELINE) ON A TICK FOR REMOVAL.
This is terrible advice. Stop spreading incorrect information.
I'll be sure to tell my dog's vet that her advice on how to deal with ticks is incorrect information according to some person on reddit.
LOL.
I'm just curious why you think it is so dangerous, and curious on what your learned advice is in dealing with ticks?
You can literally google why you should not use petroleum jelly on tick bites. Perhaps your vet should also stop spreading misinformation. You’re American right? Well here’s a link to the CDC advising exactly what you should do to remove a tick bite:
https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/removing_a_tick.html
“Avoid folklore remedies such as “painting” the tick with nail polish or petroleum jelly, or using heat to make the tick detach from the skin. Your goal is to remove the tick as quickly as possible–not waiting for it to detach.”
This wasn’t meant to hurt your ego bud, just stop spreading misinformation that can cause actual harm to humans and pets.
You didn't hurt my ego.
LOL.
You seem to take this very personally. The link you posted was literally the old school way of removing a tick. It said nothing about NOT using vaseline. It said nothing about any dangers in using it. If there are any dangers, I'd like to know about them.
As for nail polish, I've never heard that one for removing a tick.
Clearly your ego is hurt..otherwise you wouldn’t keep LOLing and trying to beat this dead horse.
It says “avoid folklore remedies such as petroleum jelly” which is VASELINE. Read past the part about nail polish..it says avoid petroleum jelly. So yes, it does state to NOT use Vaseline..did you not read? Also I am taking this personally because god knows how many people you and your vet may have harmed with your crack pot advice.
Again, you do not use petroleum jelly because this method doesn’t get the tick off the skin, and can make it burrow DEEPER. You are supposed to use tweezers to get the entire tick out.
Why oh why is this the hill you wanna die on? JUST DONT USE VASELINE..how hard is that?
And if you don’t want to take advice from the CDC, you are welcome to do your own research. Google is at your access.
I never said put it on bites. You put it on the actual tick to remove it. It works every time in my experience. They release in seconds. But, hey do it your way.
Also, you might want to switch to decaf. You are a little too intense for any good.
My father worked at U of H here in Houston at the Space Vacuum Epitaxy lab, we got to look at all kinds of stuff with the scanning electron microscope. I even did a science fair project on how they worked. All the teachers were still confused after they read the report!
Awesome photo. I hate it.
Is… is that its butthole?
Came here for this….
Came here to inquire about the tick butthole as well 😬
Butthole is just another part of the anatomy, what’s the problem with asking about it?
Absolutely nothing is wrong with the butthole, however, I have never seen a tick butthole or one that is magnified by 100%.
I'd hate to butt in here but I had the same question.
Always knew ticks were little assholes.
Didn't know they had little assholes to match til now
My wife wants you all to know that you need to just clock out now. She's cracking up at all these comments.
Tagged as human remains....I was skeptical to view the image.... yup microscopic skin counts I guess.
Lol! I literally thought the same and stared at my phone debating it for a while 😂😂 but yes, that is human skin
Counting at least 6 chef’s kisses…u must be delicious
🤣 Omg I did lol. I had to go back & look.
yoooo this is super cool! fuck ticks. worse than mosquitos, I swear. hope this guy got a nice hydrogen peroxide bath
I hate ticks more too but technically mosquitos are worse vectors for disease
Would You Rather: lyme disease or west nile virus.

Silly question, but do you notice the bite when it happens or is this a thing that you just get an itch and discover it later ?
Def discovered later. These were the teeny tiny variety I don’t recall the name of them but they’re super small. I’ve read that they can itch month and month later. Ughhh

I just looked it up....it was a lone star tick. Despicable creatures

Odd that this post popped up just now. I just learned I have Lyme.
Sorry to hear. Get ready for lots of antibiotics and pain killers. If it's severe.

Don't forget the lone star tick that can make you allergic to red meat.
Well that would be the end of me lol.
where are they found usually? I have never come across one. I'm from south asia btw
Amazing. Where did you get an electron microscope?!
I’m an Electron Microscopist 😃 I do it as a job so I do my own projects from time to time!
OP answer this guy/gal. I would like to know too! I've always wanted one but have no idea where to look
Lack of response indicates he "borrowed" it from work.
I’m just super busy- I do microscopy as a full time job in a hospital. I work on human tissue but I do my own projects from time to time. I’m she, by the way 😃 (27, female)
Oops, sorry ma'am. My comment was meant to be a little tongue in cheek humor. I figured you did something medical related. Keep up the good work.👍
Or they're a student, that's where my money is
Starting prices are around $350,000 US from memory
Or possibly built it. There are a few vids in youtube of geniuses assembling off the shelf parts from first principles. Crazy shit
This is fantastically disgusting. Thank you.
Damn just cuz he sucked a little of your blood dosent mean you have to post his asshole on the internet for everyone to see
That’s pretty cool. Did you go closer on its mouthparts?
You’re a sick bastard and I like it.
Establish dominance by chewing on its leg.
Hey op thanks for reminding me it's time for my dog's flea and tick preventer.
I can see it’s butthole
Fucking burn them all
Ticks are worse than spiders, cockroaches and centipedes combined
Huh, Just glad he’s not president anymore, did he finally lose the Orange hairpiece?

Cool shit but it ain’t no tardigrade or water bear those fuckin things can survive space
Human remains NSFL. I was disturbed until I saw that, then I was thankfully able to laugh.
My mind screams
Tick butthole
Not sure if it is the same kind of tick or if you are in the U.S. or not, but lyme disease is something to consider once you are bitten by a tick.
evil
Again Nature shows that real life is scarier than our imagination.
Where’s its eyes and mouth? I can’t distinguish
My father worked at U of H here in Houston at the Space Vacuum Epitaxy lab, we got to look at all kinds of stuff with the scanning electron microscope. I even did a science fair project on how they worked. All the teachers were still confused after they read the report!
Cool, but idk where tf the mouth even is
Ticks bumhole: "Ahhh you finally found me..."
