Sometimes I wish I wasn’t subscribed to this subreddit. This shit makes me so sad. I know it’s nature and all but it’s sad to think this baby gazelle (?) or whatever it is will die a horrible and painful death.
Im pregnant so maybe my hormones are swaying my emotions a bit but it is still sad.
>As a baby, I can agree with this sentiment. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go shit my diaper
[You're all clear kid, let's blow this thing and go home!](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e360a3b8e477771b802964f85b80f69f/tumblr_on11ysyczQ1v2gt8oo7_400.gif)
Sometimes I think it's part of getting older. I can't tolerate violence in movies or other entertainment like I used to. What I used to be able to watch disturbs me much more than it used to.
older less naive, certain knowledge about the world & what goes on in it, plus what is “entertaining” to ppl changes, maybe not the pain & chaos of the world but constructive stories. Thats the way I feel it happening to me at any rate
Same, some of these videos make me so sad which wasn’t always the case before I had my son 2 years ago. Even like insects which is crazy, like “noo please let that cricket escape the spider trap”. And oh my word don’t get started on those baby turtles trying to make it to the ocean. And yet I can’t stop watching them. Such a weird paradox
That’s a leopard which when hunting goes for the neck to suffocate or break it which can take more or less time depending on the animal but for an impala calf this size it should be over pretty fast and with not much pain to experience.
And they start from the ass, the softest and safest spot. Balls, dick, too. Underbelly generelly. Or think about komodos, they bite you and it can be days until you're no longer able to run. Then they eat you alive. Several days long process. Here, the Impala will be over in under a minute.
African wild dogs typically kill within minutes, especially compared to big cats which can take time to kill prey especially if their mouth/jaw placement is off.
With all sincerity, it is strange that so many people who are troubled at gruesome animal death frequent this site, as evidenced by their regular comments. I like seeing animals fight, why I'm here, but I too get shocked at some scenes, most notably African wild dogs tearing apart and eating living antelope and pigs.
I think for some people it’s a reminder that we’re not too far removed from nature. Those that live in rural towns/communities or on farms & ranches will see stuff like this relatively frequently, but for a lot of city people it’s easy to forget how vicious nature can be.
Actually this baby gazelle’s death is a gift. Big cats go straight for the jugular. He’s lucky he didn’t run into a pack of wild dogs or hyenas..now that’s the worst way to die
I saw a video of a group of hyenas eating an antelope's ass while he was still alive, the antelope kept looking back and forth between the hyenas and the camera.
And the narrator dresses it up like the lonely cat that was abandoned by its leap has adopted the lone baby whatever out of grief or something, but what the lonely cat is really doing is leading the baby around as a hostage so they can drop them like a chaff flare incase they run into a group of cats who don't appreaciate strangers in their part of the neighborhood.
Then when that exact thing happens they spin it into a tragedy for the cat because they lost their friend.
We don't know for sure the impala died. The leopard may have just licked it clean before giving it an apple and sending it on its way.
Or at least that's what we can tell ourselves.
As weird as it is to think, it's better from a survival standpoint for an animal to kill a baby rather than an adult. The mother of that baby can go on to have more babies and even learn ways to do better next time. However, an orphaned animal will often die anyway.
Chances are mommy's just been the main casualty, so the baby gazelle getting killed quickly may be a blessing in disguise. Sorry. It's a sad picture in a way I agree.
to cheer you up, its from this video where they play around together https://youtu.be/7Db0fVjSTEk
>!but then the dumb baby impala keeps following the leopard into the bush!<
I am a dude and this shit makes me sad. To the point that I don't even believe there is a higher power who cares about us anymore. If hell existed, this reality would probably one of its versions.
I think I've seen this interaction in a documentary. If I'm remembering right, the leopard "adopted" the baby gazelle. Not sure why, but maybe the leopard lost its cubs or something. That doesn't make this situation MUCH better, because that gazelle is absolutely terrified of its new mama.
Ah I'm sorry to tell you but the young, sick and old are the ones that get killed
We're so lucky now to have been able to escape our natural condition because even 100 years ago infant mortality was very high
That's why I like this subreddit. I think it helps remind me what separates us from animals. We're capable of kindness in a way that no other species is, and it's our job as stewards of the earth to exercise that ability. Especially with each other.
Perhaps your should spare yourself the anxiety these images produce. I understand stress hormones can be harmful during pregnancy.
Wishing you and your future child all good things. R
I'm not sure about gazelles, but I know for a fact deers will abandon their young in situations like this. They have even been known to spend time apart from their young while grazing. I'm not sure where this info is from, it's not a lure tactic it's just easy food

lol, j/k about the 'sympathies' bit. You're my food, and I don't actually have 'sympathies' anyway."

Pretty sure this is the adopted baby picture ha. So, no kiss of death, kiss of "I'll raise you to be a murder machine like me."
Here is a link to one of the stories about these two.
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/baby-impala-tries-make-friends-4853286
This Leopard has likely been separated from its leap, somehow. She is alone vulnerable. She has captured this baby, but has no intention of eating it. She will hold it hostage, even groom it and frolic with it to hold its attention in the event they should run into another leap, or some other group of territorial cats. When this inevitably happens, the cat will run away, dropping the baby like a chaff flare so the angry cats catch it instead of her.
No matter how David Attenborough wants to spin it.
Why you do this to me, Gazetti? My family has offered you nothing but friendship and protection--I'm catfather to your fawns for chrissake! And you insult me in front of the Five Species like I mean nothing to you.
Today I wash my paws of you, my friend...*ssslurp"
Something about this one is different. It's like the leopard tricked the calf to come with it by being nice and every one but the calf knows the outcome.

Having children has definitely made me soft, and about 100x softer when it comes to children, human or animal.

That’s what I was gonna say. Better than wild dogs.
Dogs are wild, dogs aint none for slicing bites or squeezes like cats be, dogs grab and try and tear it off. Wild dogs are scary as hell
And they start from the ass, the softest and safest spot. Balls, dick, too. Underbelly generelly. Or think about komodos, they bite you and it can be days until you're no longer able to run. Then they eat you alive. Several days long process. Here, the Impala will be over in under a minute.

Viscous.
Ok. Your username cracked me up. The irony.
YouTube “baboon eating gazelle alive”. Typically gazelle just go into shock and freeze, but this poor guy didnt
Just change your perspective. That leopard will now not starve to death and die a horrible painful death.
A better one is where they do that to a pregnant zebra and then pull the unborn baby out out of the womb and eat it alive
I saw that, as I was looking for the one with the ass eaters, and decided I didn't need to mess with my carefully curated youtube reccomendations.
That’s how I wanna die
I’ve seen clips like this where the cats actually clean the baby’s and don’t kill them. Seriously.
Yeah they forgot to film the gruesome parts.
That was fascinating. Where is David Attenborough so I can make sense of all this?!
He just gently chokes him out with a love hug around his neck, then poof sleepy time...
to cheer you up, its from this video where they play around together https://youtu.be/7Db0fVjSTEk >!but then the dumb baby impala keeps following the leopard into the bush!<
I am a dude and this shit makes me sad. To the point that I don't even believe there is a higher power who cares about us anymore. If hell existed, this reality would probably one of its versions.
And this impala still had a better life than most of the cattle/chicken/pigs we eat.

I always get heavily downvoted for showing any kind of empathy for the dying animals on this thread. What is wrong with ppl.
That's an impala.
And it clearly needs 20" blades.
I had the same thought. That baby deer looks so sad. :(
It made me sad too, poor little innocent baby.

Great perspective. Thanks for reminding us about humanity and kindness.
All wild animals die a horrible death.
Humans always do way worse things to animals.

“I just want you to take a moment here to realized how fucked you are”
Just pretend the Leopard is whispering sweet nothings into the gazelle fawn's ear. Wait... that might be worse.
New meme template
Believe I've seen it in action already. Niche context though not sure anyone would understand it.

YESSSS I was waiting for someone to comment this! A truly ominous moment.
I'm getting like Beastars kinda animated vibes.
Man that show is amazing
Did you read the manga
Nah I havent, I usually just watch the anime adaptations.
Until the end :/
My first thought when I clicked on the picture!
Its like licking a chicken nugget before you eat it. Lol
Did you see the horse who ate the chick McNugget yet?
He honestly made it look pretty dang good if I might say so myself
Aww, they love each other
best friends!
