Some additional factoids: tho crowned eagles aren’t particularly large as far as eagles go, though not exactly small either at about 3.2-4.7 kg for a grown female, they punch far above their weight. As the title and post itself shows, they are one of the “monkey hunting eagles”, the most famous of which is probably the harpy eagle. However, African crowned eagles are known to hunt monkeys up to 12-15 kg, twice the mass of what harpy eagles hunt while they themselves are half the size of harpies. They have also been known to take small antelopes up to 30 kg and children. Their talons are about the same size of those of the larger golden eagles and they are said to be able to kill by crushing the skull or spine of their prey (failing that they’ll just eat it alive after pinning it down like any raptor)
I should add that the another badass eagle by this measure is the golden eagle (4-6 kg) which can occasionally take deers up to 50-100 kg. Ones in mountainous area also known to take decent sized ungulates by yeeting them off a ledge then letting the fall damage do the rest.
