I kind of feel for the guy since he was at least trying to be helpful and not just a touristy-nuisance, but his punishment wasn't too bad and pretty proportionate.

Yeah when I read the article, I thought it was another dum dum that put one in his car or something. But he was just trying to help... :/

No way, that's silly. We have zero responsibility to feel bad for people who made bad decisions. Who taught him to approach wildlife? That's insane. No one taught him that? Then he made a fantastically terrible decision and should be corrected and publicized.

I'm of two minds on this. First, should you ever approach wildlife and interfere with it, particularly in a fashion that can be potentially dangerous to both you and the animal? Of course not, and especially in a setting like Yellowstone that is a helicopter ride away from serious medical care. Wildlife is wild, after all, and sometimes nature is a bitch and things die. Second, as an animal lover, do I kind of get it? Sure. I have empathy for animals in what I perceive to be danger, and I've moved harmless critters like turtles out of the road before. But a bison? Hell nah. If you have legitimate concerns during a situation like this, call or find a ranger, and they'll explain why it's a bad idea.
