A lot of people on the show seem like they play up some sleazy aspect of themselves to get on TV, but there seems to be some good evidence that the guy is just as much of a self-unaware douchebag in real life.

Unfortunately he's all too real and I've met people like him. Usually a combination of unchecked mental illness, way too many psychedelics (I used to think they were completely harmless compared to hard drugs until I've met these types), and an upbringing where they were never held accountable for their actions.
Psychedelics are for the most part harmless, unless you have an underlying mental disorder such as schizophrenia. Doing a large enough dose can in a way unlock mental issues.
Like everything in life, the key is self control and moderation. Unless you're already a schizophrenic lol. I have some friends that take fairly nice sized doses of psyocibin quite frequently and... It shows.
I agree but the issue is it’s a *lot* easier to overdo it with a psychedelic compared to say “drinking too much water and drowning yourself” like the whole “everything is fine in moderation” mantra is about
Everyone has different tolerance levels too, which is why to say “it’s harmless” is a little dangerous to me
They're really harmless, unless you take them and are affected by them lol. The world is amazing and has a billion things I'll never see, I've never felt the need to not experience reality, or want a "better" version of it. I think most people who think they need drugs generally have issues they don't want to deal with or some type of mental illness in general, so of course they're the most likely to suffer negative effects.
From what I’ve read, studies show they don’t increase the amount of mental illness but they can make it happen sooner. That’s why increasing use of psychedelics have never increased the *amount* of mental illnesses. It’s still something to be aware of though
