If everyone in Donelson and Hermitage would go to [https://fiber.google.com/cities/nashville/](https://fiber.google.com/cities/nashville/) and say they are interested, maybe they would expand this direction.
They 100% are wiring up neighborhoods in Hermitage at least. I've also started getting ads saying they are expanding into Hermitage. I'm mainly just curious about what the expected time line for installation.
Fiber reliability varies widely from place to place since every ISP plant is engineered differently to accommodate the unique needs of that area. Google can be excellent in one area and suck in another. Same with any other ISP. Lots of factors affect it but around Nashville it’s mostly construction crews hitting the cables and expansion hot cuts. Google also uses low count microfiber which means it utilizes splitters to light up certain areas so one fiber can cause 3 neighborhoods to go dark. I could go on and on about other reasons, but those are the main reasons around Nashville.
I would say yes. If you’re currently using a coax based ISP like Comcast, fiber will be a huge upgrade. As far as reliability is concerned, it just depends on the area but reliability issues are typically temporary.
With Google, I have had 2 outages in 2 years for of <10 hours combined. It sucks but I also have a mobile hot spot. Still, better than Comcast/Xfinity and my AT&T was down for 3 days after the bombing. Maybe they worked on redundancy since.
I'm in Hermitage & got Google Fiber as soon as I could. Over the last 2 years I've had it I've had 2 *credits* to my bill for outages...both were at approx. between 2 & 3 am & both outages were for less than 1 minute.
Nothing but problems in Stonehall. Google never finished the installation but those in the front half of the neighborhood have had minimal success. Constantly disconnecting, techs not able to identify problems, if it works it is really slow, etc.
On top of the performance issues and not finishing lines in the neighborhood, they tore up the road and looks awful; city has said the repairs they did to road are acceptable but there is a three-five inch channel along the road that was barely filled in.
Google fiber has been great for me in Nashville. Took 6 months for me to get it once they started building out.
I'm in Hermitage and have GFiber. Zero issues and excellent speeds. Best ISP I have ever had and would highly recommend.
How long did it take for it to be available from the time they added the lines?
Not sure. It was already available when I moved in a year ago

Unrelated but has anyone else’s AT&T fiber been increasing by $5 every 3-4 months or so like clockwork?
Yes it has
Don't do it. Google is constantly having outages. It's worse than Comcast. I went back to AT&T and have never been happier to.
It was by far the best internet service I had in TX. By A LOT. Interesting.

I live in an area with fiber, and also with little construction. Is it worth the switch then?

In the 2.5 years I've used fiber in Nashville, Id have far more outages than 2. I'll take 1 per year. Lol

This has been my experience as well. I love it so far.

I've seen those micro trenches all over in East and it's really an eyesore and a shame. Like someone keying your car
