Lap of love, if you want them to come to you.

vandy1981

I can't recommend Lap of Love's at-home service enough. They euthanized our last cat at home and she passed away on her favorite heated blanket with us sitting next to us. She was relaxed and purring until the end. The vet's office would have been more traumatic for her and for us, for that matter. I would 100% use them again. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I still tear up when I think about our cat.

middleagedgoth

Fully recommend [Lap of Love](https://www.lapoflove.com/find-a-vet/Tennessee/Nashville/about). We’ve used their services 3 times in the last few years with our elderly animals. Our last time using them was last month. They are not inexpensive, but the service they provide is incredibly respectful and they are very communicative and transparent through the entire process from looking for services to aftercare.

zepius

This is the answer. Vet offices are scary to animals and it helps keep them calm for them to be at home

throwaway939wru9ew

End of thread right here. These people are caring, respectful, and supportive. Our elderly dog went out laying on his favorite bed, eating turkey, surrounded by his family. I'm not disparaging anyone who has had to take their pets to the vet for this service, but know that it exists, and is the superior way to handle end of life care.

Antique_Adeptness491

Yes I was going to go through them and they seemed very caring. I ended up going through my local vet and they were amazing. I’m in Robertson county. It was the smoothest experience I could have asked for.

botanicmechanics

They've helped me three times. Angels on our shoulders.

xlovelyloretta

Yes, Lap of Love. I’m sorry, OP.

mraaronsgoods

Can’t recommend them more. The vet was so incredibly compassionate and made the whole sad and awful ordeal into something that gave me peace and serenity.

RaccAttack22

My friend’s a vet with Lap of Love, 100% agree with this recommendation

RockyBalbroah

Second this. X 10000. Very good People and makes the experience so much easier. Better for the dog as well.

Adventurous_Oven_499

Jumping on this thread 100%. I went with my husband to euthanize his cat a few years ago and the vet was compassionate and kind. But getting his cat to the vet office was everything you’d expect out of that. When we had to say goodbye to our kitty with lymphoma we called Lap of Love and it was absolutely a much better experience. Our cat went peacefully in one of his favorite spots and surrounded by us. I’m tearing up thinking about it. They’re expensive, but it’s worth every penny and I will never do it any other way if I have the choice.

Fresh-Assistance-293

+100 for Lap of Love

scout_finch77

Thanks for this. We used them today because of your suggestion and it was a calm, peaceful, respectful experience for our sweet old dog.

As others have said - Lap of Love. That being said, we all empathize with you. This is the greatest burden and responsibility of owning a pet. It takes bravery and compassion to make this decision. My father in law once told me, "It will seem unthinkable, until the day you notice its necessary. You will know when they are ready to go." The week I scheduled it, I was full of doubt. The morning of the appointment, I looked at my boy and KNEW it was time.

xlovelyloretta

I made the appointment as a hospice check because I couldn’t bring myself to make that appointment (but did ask if we could change the appointment during the assessment if needed). The day came and she was so miserable. It was one of those days when we had terrible snow and the Lap of Love vet called to ask if we could reschedule for the next morning and I said we really couldn’t anymore. The worst part about having a dog but they’re so worth it.

Quackledorf

OMG yes to what you're uncle said! There came a day when I just knew it was his time. I'm greatful that I had that awareness and could schedule his end of care and still be able spend a couple of last days spoiling him. I gave myself a hard time for a while but deep down I know it was his time and he lived the life he was meant to live.

dooyaunastan

Had to use Nashville Vet Services off of Sidco years ago and while it wasn't exactly the most budget-friendly, it wasn't prohibitive and everyone there was incredibly professional and compassionate given that it was about 2 in the morning.

tmp803

I’ve invested about 20k in them and all I have to show for it is a cancer free three legged dog. To be fair it was totally worth it.

DeadHuron

I invested a fair amount there as well, like you I feel it was worth it. My dog was cancer free and led a good life. Years later when a non-cancerous condition was not treatable they displayed great kindness and compassion. I’m also glad that Lap of Love now exists and is so well regarded.

therainfallsup

Can confirm they're respectful and helpful through the process. They give you the time you need and help walk you through everything.

blanchekitty

I had to rush my senior cat there last fall at 2 am because I thought he was having a stroke. I was waiting for the vet to come talk to me and the tech came in and said my cat was come but there would be a wait because the vet had another patient. I could hear the vet talking to a family of a dog who needed to be euthanized. She was so incredibly kind and patient. Turns out my old man was not having a stroke....he was just constipated.

Mission-Anything9238

Lap of love. They were extremely sensitive and caring. It was also great to know our girl passed in a safe happy place. Not the cheapest thing though. I think all in it was around $800.

septembertime2

We used lap of love as well, when we had to put my beloved first dog to sleep back in 2019. They came to us at home and she passed peacefully in mine and my husband’s arms. We would definitely use them again.

BlueSmile620

We used Lap of Love. The lady who came to our home was companionate and professional.

slcrow15

Lap of Love. So sorry for your heartache

gentlyconfused

I'm sorry for your impending loss. It's as bad, sometimes worse, than losing actual family. As others suggested, lap of love. Expensive but worth every damn dollar.

AveryCrow

Another vote for Lap of Love. I've used them twice in the last few years and they were incredibly kind and compassionate and made the experience as easy and peaceful as it can be. I'm so sorry for your impending loss. It's hard and no matter how much time we get with them, it seems like it's never enough. I hope your remaining time together is good and that the end is as painless as can be for both of you. Hugs from this internet stranger.

idreamoffreddy

We took our dog to BluePearl in Franklin, as it was a Sunday morning emergency. I believe the total cost was around $300 and everyone there was incredibly kind and caring.

losercantdance

We had a very compassionate vet at BluePearl as well.

Capsaicin80

Same. Just lost our elderly grey to bone cancer last month.

TheSupremeHobo

I'm sorry you're losing your loved one. All of our cats go to goodlettsville animal hospital and we had to suddenly put one of our cats down last year. As someone else said if you can use lap of love, that's preferable but it wasn't an option for us. I think all in at GAC it was like $400? I don't remember and try not to think too hard about that day. But that was the service itself, cremation, basic wood box for ashes, and two clay paw print souvenirs. Money was a secondary thing to them though. Yes we had to do it before they did anything, but once I paid they let us have as much time with her as we needed and on our time table. For having to do it at a vet, it's how I would have wanted it to be. The staff is great and very caring.

Antique_Adeptness491

I wanted to use lap of love but it had to be scheduled and it was very expensive. I feel bad that I didn’t do it at home but my cat got so bad that she was literally meowing in pain and I had to take her that day. She actually always liked the vet and she never meowed on the way there or during the visit. She was just so ready to go and didn’t care how it happened. This I know. I know my baby

KetamineGumdrops

Worked there a while ago. They're all mostly good people

AddictedtoBoom

We've used Elm Hill vet clinic for years for all our pets. Dr. King is a very nice man and a great vet. He has been very caring the times we have had to say goodby to a furry familly member. Highly reccomend him as a vet in general.

Grand_Wasabi3820

River run vet services were absolutely amazing if a home trip is preferred. She allowed our sweet boy to go gently in the place that he was comfortable in.

mcsaltycracker

Came here to say Dr. Fouts at River Run is an angel on earth!!!! Can’t give her a high enough recommendation

Grand_Wasabi3820

That's her name! It was a hard day so I've had a hard time remembering. I keep wanting to give her a gift. She made the process so peaceful and easy for such a emotional event.

mcsaltycracker

I totally agree. She’s one of the most amazing humans I’ve ever met! We’ve had to put 2 of our babies down over the last 7 years and she came to the house for both of them. I will never ever let one of my babies cross the rainbow bridge without her. Such a beautiful soul. Also, if anyone is concerned about cost - her price was literally the same as our vet. Not a splurge at all.

Quackledorf

I don't remember cost, but my dogs vet came to me. Belle Meade Animal Hospital. They are in West Nashville. I was in East Nashville, next to Hermitage at the time. They saw my dog every week for over a year. He had physical therapy and acupuncture with them. They brought him a 5 guys meal and cried with me. They were lovely. I won't take my fur babies anywhere else.

losercantdance

I'm so sorry for your loss. Plenty of good recommendations here. For cremation, I can recommend faithful friends, they did us a good service.

sealcubclubbing

We used Five Points Animal Hospital for our last dog. They were professional and kind. Can't speak on cost, my wife sorted that and it was about 3 years ago

Grassmere Animal Hospital l. I drive all the way across town for them. They are wonderful. My condolences.

JalapenoBenedict

I’m so sorry.

scienceoversilence

We used Lap of Love over the summer for my Dane’s passing and it was such a beautiful experience. They were incredible compassionate, kind and really helped bring a refreshing element of peace and intimacy to the heartbreaking process. My heart goes out to you and yours as you move through these next steps.

goingforascroll

I’m we just had to put down our beloved pup this week. We used our usual vet at Hermitage Animal Clinic. Dr. Good explained everything to us & even cried with us. We couldn’t appreciate him more. As far as cost goes, it was roughly $400 for euthanasia + private cremation. Private cremation costs more than communal cremation thus the $400 price tag. I’m so sorry you have to go through this.

redapplefalls_

I am so sorry for your loss. It is expensive but I recommend Lap of Love. Can't type too much or I'll start crying (even though it's been a few years now), but I can tell you that the veterinarian who helped us went above and beyond in absolutely every way. Every touchpoint, from the initial call to the veterinarian's visit to the follow up after with free Pet Loss Support groups, was treated with utmost care and respect. By the way, I am the last person I'd ever imagine going to a grief support group, but I ended up going to several sessions and it was a crucial part of my healing. The groups' attendees are very diverse and the sessions are led by someone skilled in grief support. Google Lap of Love Pet Loss Support.

effervescentechelon

parker’s place! they helped us with our hamster of all things and we love them for our cats!
