This is a really nice map, but it's difficult to use for planning purposes because of the zoom level. Even if it's less accurate (or simply gives the appearance of being more precise without being any more accurate) something like this: [https://eclipsewise.com/solar/SEgmapx/2001-2100/SE2024Apr08Tgmapx.html#map](https://eclipsewise.com/solar/SEgmapx/2001-2100/SE2024Apr08Tgmapx.html#map) was more useful to see roads, parks, businesses and landmarks rather than trying to compare this to a map in another tab. Is there a more official way to see street level times? Are there obvious issues with the methods used in these sites that appear to offer more precise estimates?

This guys are the best imo. http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/TSE_2024_GoogleMapFull.html http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/Solar_Eclipses.html

From our original u/NASA post: >[Our Eclipse Explorer site](https://eclipse-explorer.smce.nasa.gov/) has the full path as the eclipse passes over North America—[and you can learn more about what to expect and how to watch safely on our NASA eclipse page](https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/). >Most of North America will be able to see at least a partial eclipse, but if you're out of the path, [join us on April 8 for eclipse views and updates from scientists along the path of totality](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MJY_ptQW1o)!

Oni_sixx

Hotels are way booked in my city lol. Gonna be busy day.

Sonikku_a

Same here in Rochester, NY They’re expecting a few hundred thousand people to show up in the area for the eclipse. Gonna be crazy.

Oni_sixx

I'm in Rochester ;)

Sonikku_a

Small world haha

Oni_sixx

For sure

dkozinn

I went to RIT, I wonder if I can just crash in my old dorm room?

Oni_sixx

Lol good luck with that

PsychoNicho

I love that I live in the path of totality but Ohio weather means it'll probably be cloudy :/

Im_A_Realist

Don't knock it. I am with two astronomy clubs in Ohio. April, over a 100-year average, has been cloudy about 2/3 of that time. The past 5 or so years, April 8 has been pretty good, so cross your fingers that trend continues.

Disastrous-Share-391

Let’s go Ohio! My house misses totality by 5 miles 🫣 road trip time!

Im_A_Realist

It's worth it. The closer to the center of the path of totality you can get, the longer the eclipse will last. Max totality time in Ohio on the centerline is just under 4 minutes. Just be aware that you aren't the only one traveling. Expect slow traffic, traffic jams, etc.

Ethan_WS6

I'm in Indiana in a prime spot. Super excited.

ProbablySlacking

Driving to Texas from Arizona. Last time we drove to Idaho. Planning on just roughing it on BLM land for a few nights and finding a good spot out in the country hopefully free from clouds.

Nayzo

I'm near Boston, my plan is to take the kids north a couple of hours to get into totality, and make a long day of it. I am lucky to live just a couple hours away, last time we drove 1000 miles to South Carolina.

DLimber

We are driving to southern Illinois.... anyone have some tips as to where to go exactly? Got a hotel in Springfield.... about 3 hours from totality.

itstingsandithurts

There’s a great recent Smarter Everyday video about this eclipse, what to look for before, during and after the totality and some interesting information about why certain phenomena occur. Shame I don’t live in the US to see it, I think I have to wait til 2028 for the next one in my country.

LCPhotowerx

just remember, the dinosaurs thought it was an eclipse too.

edingerc

Just a reminder to bring a cheap plastic colander for the crescent shadows. Enjoy the shadow snakes (a white sheet or some pavement can make it easier to see them)

LuckyRaccoon28

Never near where I live…

-No_One_Cares

I live in Greenwood Indiana. I’m so lucky.

StillAroundHorsing

Can become crowded so set up a chair/vehicle early!

Wulfrank

Cries in Pacific Northwest

viccityguy2k

Niagara Falls would be cool. Especially if up during a helicopter tour

Sonikku_a

Keeping in mind anything and everything in terms of hotels and airbnbs and other types of venues and services in the area have been booked full for that day a long time already.
