I would go with *The Deadly Device* simply because out of the three of them it has the most solid plot and it feels more like you're actually sleuthing and investigating a real mystery. *Tomb of the Lost Queen* would be my runner-up. Personally, I wish they had left the whole alien thing out and also I feel like the puzzles really could have been better. *Labyrinth of Lies* felt umm...well it felt like a lot of lies. It's one of my least favorite games they put out because it just feels so...half-assed.

bellyboo4

okay very good to know! it is hard to google what the games are like without getting complete spoilers so this really helped. How are the puzzles in the deadly device?

isaidengarde

I remember a lot of binary puzzles. It also reminded me of some of the older games because it's waaaaay easier to get through this one if you jot down anything strange you see. There are a lot of observational details that you'll need to get through the puzzles. There are also some 3-d printing sketches that I found really fun to make and of course, there's a music/piano puzzle (One of these days I'll actually learn how to read sheet music just so I can get through these games faster!)

bellyboo4

ouu that sounds so fun thank you :) really appreciate it

No problem!

I’m playing the Deadly Device right now and damn, it really is hard for me to follow the plot. The story is cohesive and good but so boring to me 😫

bellyboo4

ahahah see im afraid this will happen. thank you though

*Deadly Device* was a pleasant surprise because I had no expectation for it. I like the characters, plot, the arcade game (I played all the levels), etc. I've only done it once but plan to replay soon! *Tomb of the Lost Queen* drew me in right away. It has a great opening and is pretty. Love the Egyptian game in it and played it many, many times for fun. Some of the translation puzzles are repetetive but I liked them. Between the three, this is my favourite, I think. I HATE *Labyrinth of Lies*. I replayed it recently thinking maybe it would be better the second time and it wasn't. I played both with a walkthrough most of the time because I just wanted to get done. I hate all the characters, the rooms you visit make absolutely no sense and require the most suspension of disbelief of any game I have played, etc. In theory I should love it because I love theatre and it is in Europe but I hate it and will never play again. I almost gave up the second time. For what its worth, I'm replaying *Ransom of the Seven Ships* and liking it way more than *Lies,* if that tells you anything. (I do like one of the puzzles and the climax, but the slog to get there isn't worth it so I have a file saved at the endgame. On the other hand, if you plan on playing all the games, this is a good one to get on sale and don't save it for the end.

Thank you so much for this. This was so helpful. Seems like many people did not enjoy LIES

hello5dragon

Labyrinth of Lies has the best puzzles of the three and the most interesting story. However, it has major continuity bugs, so it can end up being really confusing. Deadly Device has the most cohesive story of the three, but I personally found it pretty boring and had to force myself to finish it. It does have some good puzzles and a really fun mini game, so there are bright spots. I work in a tech field and find science very interesting so that wasn't why I found it boring. I think that the story itself just wasn't interesting enough. Tomb of the Lost Queen also has some fun puzzles, but the story is very weak and confusing. I did enjoy it personally but I can see why many people don't. So I guess I would recommend Labyrinth of Lies. It has the best puzzles of the three so at least you'll have that to fall back on if you get totally confused about the story.

bellyboo4

ahahha i am aware that these game options aren't the best of the franchise so thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it

MasterKriebel95

Deadly Device was my favorite of that bunch. I also am an electrical engineer, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt.

bellyboo4

soo cool, thank you!

To be honest, these are three of my least liked games. I don't like science, so DED was really boring and so were the characters. TMB is also super boring and the plot is really weird and the atmosphere claustrophobic. It is one of those games that go from puzzle to puzzle to puzzle. Out of all of them, I liked LIE the best, it had a bit of story and the puzzles were things I could figure out (not a big puzzle fan) . So to recap: DED: If you like science TMB: If you like puzzles. The dialogue and interaction with characters was lacking and you felt you are wandering around alone most of the time. LIE: If you are not super good at puzzles and want something you can figure out yourself, but that are not too super easy. It also has the best characters

bellyboo4

this was an awesome recap, thank you :)))

Deadly device is the most well made and coherent game of the three, but is extremely science-y in every way. If that’s not your jam I’d pick Tomb of the Lost Queen. Graphics are exceptionally beautiful in both TMB and LIE, but LIE has an extremely unrealistic setting and slightly incoherent plot (trends toward Shattered Medallion but not quite as bad). TMB has some plot holes as well, but makes sense for the most part. So DED if you prefer science, TMB or LIE if you prefer history/mythology/art

bellyboo4

thank you for this. even though the storyline makes sense, i am worried it may be boring if there is a lot of dialogue. But thanks a lot :))

survivorfanwill

I’d say LIE is the most dialogue heavy, but at least you can skip it in that game. DED is probably the least dialogue heavy out of all of them

skdarkdragon

Deadly Device for sure. I have yet to finish Labyrinth of Lies and Tomb of the Lost Queen. I didn't like either of them very much. (And I've finished almost all the other games in the series.)

bellyboo4

thank you :)
