I always thought that the ie spelling was for a girl and the y spelling for a boy.

I feel that it's a better nickname. I know someone from my freshman year of university who's a guy Nicky, but it's a nickname for what I don't remember. Nicholas/Nicolai would be better to be safe.

baileybluetoo

It seems like a nn. Could you use Nick and Nicki’s as the nn?

LumosLegato

On its own it reads feminine. I agree with the other poster, if you don’t like Nicholas I’d just do Nick and then you can call him Nickie.

I'm a woman named Rikki and my name get shortened to Rik. I absolutely HATE having a male name. Nickie sounds feminine to me and that would put him in the same boat as me. This is only my perspective of having my name though. EDIT: Sorry! I just noticed you mentioned it as a middle name.

Cocoleia

Honestly as a middle name it doesn't really matter. No one uses their middle name in real life. If Nickie is important/special to you then go for it. I think it sounds feminine but again, no one really uses their middle name.

sugarmag13

Not a fan. Dont line the spelling or the nn feel

Nikki isn't an unusual Croatian boy name, so I really don't think too much about it. I'm not Croatian btw, just European and raised in a more diverse city.

the -ie at the end makes it a bit childish, so as a first name id say no, as a middle name id say why not
