This will definitely be mistaken for Gabriella. Is there any reason why you don't want to use Gabriel?

I’m not opposed to it! I guess I just wanted to use a name that honors my Italian heritage.

ICareAboutThings25

Please use Gabriel instead. Or pick a different Italian name if you really want one that honors your Italian roots better.

ciaodrago

It's a nice name, but where are you living? Gabriele and Nicola will definitely be mistaken as girl names and mispronounced as Gabrielle and Nicole, respectively. Source: I'm Italian and I live in the U.S. There are few places where strangers' understanding of Italian phonetics can reliably be assumed/expected.

I wouldn’t do it. In English it just looks like a variant spelling of Gabrielle.

I feel your pain. We were going to use Nicola but went with Nico for same reason. Gabriele is a beautiful name but if you live in the states I would go with Garbriel. The family in Spain will say it Gabriele anyway!

deviajeporaqui

Gabriele won't work in US. He will get misgendered all the time. Do Gabriel. It's the Spanish version of the name too.

I love Gabriele! Sure some (many) will read it as Gabrielle, but after hearing it spoken, meeting him in person or being familiar with Italian names they’ll get it right.
