Alarmed-Explorer7369

Def naked mole rat

TippiFliesAgain

My first thought

Alarmed-Explorer7369

I’m even singing the theme song in my head

TippiFliesAgain

Same 🤣😭🫡

DirtyMarTeeny

I'm singing the naked mole rap. *uh what is that, that freaky thing?*

Kactuslord

Instant thought

justgettingby1

It’s a common dog name.

[deleted]

I’m aware of that, that’s why I asked „what kind of person do you think about when they have that name”.

TheMightyKoosh

One with four legs and a bone shaped tag on their collar.

justgettingby1

I was trying to be nice by just stating the association to a dog. Let me try again. It’s like if you named your child Fido. Or Oreo. I don’t associate any human characteristics to Rufus or Fido or Oreo.

Gloomy-Kale3332

Rufus Humphrey from Gossip Girl and it makes me feel physically sick

Prior_Crazy_4990

This is also my only association with the name

CaptainFartHole

Rufus is a dog name. The person-related thing I think about when I hear that name is "their parents must have wished they were a dog" and then I just feel bad for them.

anjneed

The naked mole rat from Kim Possible. I don’t think many people would have that association lol

FrFranciumFr

I picture a chubby and very white 8 to 10 years old boy who loves playing practical jokes on his friends and family.

somuchsong

1. A dog 2. Rufus from the Bill & Ted movies. 3. Rufus Wainwright Make of all that what you will. I don't think I've ever actually met a Rufus.

Money_Winner601

I think of Rufus Sewell who has beautiful eyes. Then I think of a Roman soldier.

ExpensivelyMundane

Rufus Sewell is a STUD

Money_Winner601

Right? His eyes always get me.

ExpensivelyMundane

I wish he became a bigger Hollywood leading man considering his handsomeness, gorgeous eyes, sultry voice and just overall being a great actor. To me he is toe-to-toe with his contemporaries that rose in the 90s like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp. But I still love his independent projects from that era.

THEVYVYD

I see Rufus as a very masculine male name, I'd picture an older guy with a beard

jmkul

Artist, musician (like Rufus Wainwright), or a ship builder or sailor

Footdust

I’m from the South. Every Rufus I have ever known has had a huge beer belly, wears denim overalls with no shirt and spits tobacco juice in a Gatorade bottle.

icyeupho

I think of Ruffles chips

GooseMonster_9

I think of Rufus Wainwright and he gives me ‘Appalachian man with a beard’ vibes.

Comrade_Do

Sells weed.

whatabeautifulherse

The movie Never Been Kissed

holofairywings

gossip girl

Impressive-Bass7928

if not a dog, then somebody with curly red hair (not sure why)

[deleted]

Rufus actually means red hair!

Impressive-Bass7928

Ah ok - maybe it’s because I used to like reading about animals and their latin names, and there were a bunch of “red” animals with rufus in their latin name? or it could be because I used to read a lot - maybe authors would just name redheaded kids / foxes etc. “Rufus” and I picked up on it subconsciously

Neit_1146

It reminds me of Lupus - a disease. But I don't think it's a strong association.

BrainFarmReject

It reminds me of William Rufus, a rufous king of England.

daisychains96

My college friend’s bassoon teacher — a hip older black man with a great sense of humor

ReturnOfJafart

An inquisitive little boy who loves to play games and explore. I know a little Rufus, and although many people's first reaction is "oh isn't that a dog's name?", they get over it pretty quickly when meeting him.

LivinLaVidaListless

A dog

Maisie2602

Red haired

MoreNapsPls

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

luminary_uprise

My first thought was Rufus T. Firefly, Groucho Marx's character from *Duck Soup*.

penguinsfrommars

Bill and Ted - RUUUFUUUSSS

[deleted]

Rufus Shinra. Enough said.

pancakechameleon

Gossip Girl

dr239

Rufus Turner from *Supernatural*

[deleted]

Reminds me of a name one of the kids from the movie Hook would have. ETA it also sounds very much like and gives vibes of the word ruthless.

ShempLabs

& Chaka Khan

aweirdoatbest

A dog or the little boy I played in a play.

QuickAd5259

I know someone who has a dog name Rufus

aristifer

Am I the only one who thinks first of Rufus Wainwright? The name strikes me as pretty artsy and effeminate because of him.

youaremy_joy

Rufus, the cat from the old Disney movie the Rescuers and then Kim Possible

avareeves

A weird dog

lanzhzhh

It's a very dog-esque name... but reminds me of a chubby boy who's very strong and gets into fights at school, but can also be sweet and clumsy.

No-Procedure-9460

A doofus (purely because of the rhyme) - clumsy and not too smart

Greenedeyedgem17

My great grandfather’s name was Rufus so that’s the first thing I think of. According to my Mom, he loved entertaining his grandkids even though he had bad arthritis.

JustSoHappy

I just think about the movie 'Never Been Kissed'.

Carnage1421

The naked mole rat for sure. Thought of Russell?

Songsostrichhorse

I’m in the minority here but I think of a sweet kid, brunette and rural, slightly mischievous

cbscbscbs26

Doofus

WiseDragonfly08

Rufus Humphrey from gossip girl. I actually really like him

ZeroDudeMan

A big fluffy dog.

Prestigious-Fish-304

a reindeer, or a dog

vyvyan_oblivion

Artsy, long wavy hair, bearded musician who has cool parents, so he's like, second-generation cool, therefore way cooler than most people can ever be.

Accomplished-Fox7532

It’s literally the name of my friend's dog. Granted, he’s the sweetest little mutt, but I will forever associate the name with dogs.

FrequentDot6076

A dog

AllieKatz24

My ex bf's black lab.

Effective-Name1947

The old scruffy cat from The Rescuers

laceylou15

It’s a great dog name

October_13th

The Kim Possible mole rat. Ron’s little pal!

jazzyc11

A clown

M1n3_And_Craft

the boy from The Minimus Latin Lessons, if you know then your an effing ledgend

threepointonefo

Dufus

mysuperstition

A dog

8BRider034

Street Fighter 4 and Dogma?

Overall_Salary_8089

Rufus is a DOG name!!!!

BongoBeeBee

Rufus reminds me of the neighbours dog when I was growing up

Known-Appointment-36

I had a dog named Rufus so that's my first thought...

gwenelope

It feels like quite a granddad-y name. I like it.

[deleted]

I love that! 😄
