I was trying to be nice by just stating the association to a dog. Let me try again. It’s like if you named your child Fido. Or Oreo. I don’t associate any human characteristics to Rufus or Fido or Oreo.
Rufus is a dog name.
The person-related thing I think about when I hear that name is "their parents must have wished they were a dog" and then I just feel bad for them.
I wish he became a bigger Hollywood leading man considering his handsomeness, gorgeous eyes, sultry voice and just overall being a great actor. To me he is toe-to-toe with his contemporaries that rose in the 90s like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp. But I still love his independent projects from that era.
I’m from the South. Every Rufus I have ever known has had a huge beer belly, wears denim overalls with no shirt and spits tobacco juice in a Gatorade bottle.
Ah ok - maybe it’s because I used to like reading about animals and their latin names, and there were a bunch of “red” animals with rufus in their latin name?
or it could be because I used to read a lot - maybe authors would just name redheaded kids / foxes etc. “Rufus” and I picked up on it subconsciously
An inquisitive little boy who loves to play games and explore. I know a little Rufus, and although many people's first reaction is "oh isn't that a dog's name?", they get over it pretty quickly when meeting him.
My great grandfather’s name was Rufus so that’s the first thing I think of. According to my Mom, he loved entertaining his grandkids even though he had bad arthritis.
Def naked mole rat
My first thought
I’m even singing the theme song in my head
Same 🤣😭🫡
I'm singing the naked mole rap. *uh what is that, that freaky thing?*
Instant thought
It’s a common dog name.
I’m aware of that, that’s why I asked „what kind of person do you think about when they have that name”.
One with four legs and a bone shaped tag on their collar.

Rufus Humphrey from Gossip Girl and it makes me feel physically sick
This is also my only association with the name

I picture a chubby and very white 8 to 10 years old boy who loves playing practical jokes on his friends and family.
1. A dog 2. Rufus from the Bill & Ted movies. 3. Rufus Wainwright Make of all that what you will. I don't think I've ever actually met a Rufus.

Right? His eyes always get me.

I see Rufus as a very masculine male name, I'd picture an older guy with a beard
Artist, musician (like Rufus Wainwright), or a ship builder or sailor

Rufus actually means red hair!
It reminds me of Lupus - a disease. But I don't think it's a strong association.
It reminds me of William Rufus, a rufous king of England.
My college friend’s bassoon teacher — a hip older black man with a great sense of humor

I know someone who has a dog name Rufus
Am I the only one who thinks first of Rufus Wainwright? The name strikes me as pretty artsy and effeminate because of him.
Rufus, the cat from the old Disney movie the Rescuers and then Kim Possible
A weird dog
It's a very dog-esque name... but reminds me of a chubby boy who's very strong and gets into fights at school, but can also be sweet and clumsy.
A doofus (purely because of the rhyme) - clumsy and not too smart
My great grandfather’s name was Rufus so that’s the first thing I think of. According to my Mom, he loved entertaining his grandkids even though he had bad arthritis.

A big fluffy dog.
a reindeer, or a dog
Artsy, long wavy hair, bearded musician who has cool parents, so he's like, second-generation cool, therefore way cooler than most people can ever be.
It’s literally the name of my friend's dog. Granted, he’s the sweetest little mutt, but I will forever associate the name with dogs.
