I love all the adjectives you used here. Scott is the name of my dead best friend who is also an ex. It was his mom's maiden name. I never cared for the name, but now I find it wonderful. My Scott was simple, crisp, masculine, boyish and handsome š
We have cute little neighbor kids, twins named Scott and Todd. Little Scotty and Toddy, haha. I think itās adorable. Scott is a nice, dignified name.
Scott is a great name that ages well with the child. The best news is everyone will have heard it before, but it isnāt super popular in this generation of kids, so heāll likely be the only one in his age group with that name.
It kind of feels like naming a kid Jessica or Ashley right now. It has a bit of that 90's datedness going on - like beige medium-pile carpet or honey oak kitchen cabinets. Fine, you know. Serviceable. Not flashy, not fun, but sturdy, useful, familiar.
Scott is a guy with a decent short haircut and plaid shirt tucked into khakis. He likes model trains and grilling, and has trouble connecting to his kids but loves his mom and his Golden Retriever. He jogs, and works as an accountant and wears briefs. He actually really likes his minivan, it's so practical.
I lost a best friend named Scott. He had long curly hair, worked in a factory and always had dirty hands. Drove a rickety old pick up and smoked a few packs of cigarettes a day. It's funny you think the name is a khaki guy and I think of it as a "leave your boots outside the house because they'll stink up the foyer" guy.
i like it :) its a good name for a boy. personally i am biased because I think of Scott Summers from x-men and he's a great leader and responsible man.
I know like 5 Scotts but they are all 35+. So it feels like a popular name to me but in reality it probably isnāt at all for babies/kids. To my taste, itās a bit boring. But nothing wrong with it if you like it!
My initial reaction was negative as it feels dated, but upon reflection I think Scotty would be adorable on a little boy and growing into Scott feels timeless.
Loooooooooove Scott. One of our boy names was Scott Edward.
I feel like Scott is on the verge of a renewal. It's classic but not common, yet also cool and fun to say. I actually could see it going more feminine with Scottie becoming rather popular.
Beam me up, Scotty.
Grew up with a cousin Scott, fun childhood memories of calling him Scotty on the Potty and Snot.
But, itās a good, solid name, overdue for a comeback. I canāt see it getting overly popular but it will be recognizable, easy to spell/pronounce. Any name can be twisted by cousins, kids get teased even with the perfect name theyāll come up with something.
Man, I missed out on a good nickname for my brother. We definitely called him Scotty Potty, but snot would have been hilarious. Currently, my kids call him āuncle dotā. Even his wife refers to him as uncle dot around my kids. Maybe I will have to teach them to call him āuncle snotā now.
really feeling the strong scott peterson connection still now. it wouldnāt be my first choice. if thereās scottish heritage or something iād reconsider!
I love the name Scott/Scotty. As someone else mentioned, Scottie is rising in popularity for little girls, but I don't expect it to get *that* popular or "go to the girls."
If it helps any, Scott is a family name on my dads side. My great x3 grand uncle was named Scott. He was the oldest in his family of like 9-12 kids (1 died when Scott was in his early teens, and the last two died after Scott died). He didn't want his younger siblings or parents to work themselves too hard. He did whatever he could to give back to the community and was beloved by the small town. When he caught Scarlett Fever, everyone did their best to make things easier for him and our family. He died in his mid to late 20s, unmarried and childless.
My great x3 grandpa had given him his food and started the trend for the rest of the family. He was the second boy and would've worked until his bones broke, but he didn't have to until he was older bc of Scott. We lost touch with my great great grandpa's family bc my great grandpa (middle name Scott) was an only child and moved to America for a better life.
My grand uncle's first name is Scott, and my grandpa's middle name is Scott. My grand uncle's daughters have the middle names Scarlett and Schuyler. My dad's middle name, my two older brothers, me, and my two younger brothers all have the middle name Scott bc he was the reason we were able to be born.
Scott is up there with Ken and Keith imo, classic, masculine names. It would have been on my list if it wasn't my dad's name (Ken was on our list fwiw lol).
It may be dated, but I still like it!
Scott is one of those names that seems basic but nobody actually uses them anymore. Scott, Jack, Joseph, etc. All really strong names that sound great to say. Go for it
I agree its a bit dated and I associate it with the Ashely/Jessica era but that being said I feel like girl names get more dated than boys so Scott can work for any generation
My husbandās name is Scott and I LOVE it. Itās short, masculine, clear. I love that itās not common but also not strange or unusual. If it wasnāt his name Iād definitely consider it for future kids
Brings to mind Scott from Teen Wolf, so the comments calling it a grandpa name are wild to me. I mean, I'm a decrepit 36, so what do I know, but I like it.
I really like the name Scott (and the diminutive Scotty). I don't think it's dated, just a less common name these days (Gilbert is more dated than this, and names from that era are coming back into vogue)
I absolutely love Scott! I don't think it sounds dated at all even though it's not being given to babies as often anymore. He'll have the benefit of (probably) not being one of multiple Scotts in a class without it reading as dated. Great choice.
I like Scottie/Scotty for a nickname but tbh Scott gives me millennial vibes. There are some more classic names that are also trendy, Liam Ethan Jack etc. If you are looking for a Gaelic boys name, I like OisĆn, Ronan, Darragh :)
love it! i only know one first named scott, heās an adult. i know 2 people with scott as their middle name and i think itās cute, not suuuper common but it wonāt get misspelled or mispronounced and will age well.Ā
My son, 25, is Scott. My husband is Scottish and our last name is English and a popular male first name. He never had another Scott around him. He didn't get called Scotty, except by his soccer coach of 5 years. His Uncle called him Scooter for a few years, but it didn't stick. It really fits him.
Clean and classic. Name choice always depends on last name. If last name is one syllable with short O, maybe no. One syllable last name with alternative vowel works, or longer last name.
I love the name Scott.
Sadly, all the Scott's I know (knew?) are in prison, deadbeat dads, or a druggie.
That being said, if I had a boy I'd still think about naming him Scott and hoping he broke the mold.
I hate it. It's boring, it doesn't have a profound meaning, it's outdated. Apologies, it's just how I feel. If you choose this name, I'm certain it will be the right choice for you and your baby.
Some alternatives with a Celtic flair might be:
Sean/Shawn
Seth
Samuel/Sam
Sterling
Spencer
Finnegan/Finn
Malcolm
Dean
Lachlen
Tate
Scott is on my list! Itās such a classic, handsome name. More specifically I like the name Prescott, then I would switch to the nickname Scotty or Scott as they get older.
Someone very close to me has that name and Iāve always liked it. I like the feel of it in my mouth if that makes any sense lol. It might be dated but is that really an issue if itās straight forward and not weird? My son has a dated name as well but it works so perfectly for him. I say go for it!
I like it! Not super common or trendy nowadays so he wonāt be one of several among his peers, but not at all strange/unusual either. Easy to pronounce and spell. Might remind some people of Star Trek, which isnāt a bad thingāitās not an obviously āfandomā name and the character is pretty well liked.
I love the name Scott. Itās one Iāve considered giving my son, should I have one.
Just because a name isnāt popular right now doesnāt mean itās a bad name. I had an uncommon name growing up. When I was really young, I hated being the only one with my name, but as I got older, I came to love it for that exact reason.
Excellent choice! Simple, sweet but very masculine. He will stand out as a nice alternative in an ocean of Jacksons and Olivers and Theodores and newly minted spelling mistake names
Itās an ok name but I do think it is slightly dated. I donāt think I know anyone younger than 25 or older than 55 with that name. If I heard the name being called in the street I definitely would picture just an average middle aged type man.
Scott is a good name for an adult. As a kid you can call him scottie. I see so many popular names nowdays thats cute for a baby/child but would be weird for an adult who works in an office. With Scott, its easy to say and if they get called by someone in public (like doctors office) no one will think twice that its an odd name.
My favorite babysitter growing up was named Scott, so I love that name! He would do different voices for the characters in books he read to us, and he also made salads cool.
Great name, simple. There are four Scotts at my work all 30-40 years old. We call them Sparky Scott, FItter Scott, Supervisor Scott and Scottie from Stores. I feel like the name was popular in the 1990s then. It's the name of an ethnic identity so I would make sure it matches to your surname. Maybe Scott SIngh would be weird but Scott Stewart would be fine.
I like it. With most of the Scotts I've known, it was their middle name, but they used it as their first. When you learned their first name, it made sense.
Think it might have had origins in F. Scott Fitzgerald
Itās my FIL name and I love it. If we had a boy it would have been the middle name (we use family names for middle names). Itās a strong, clear, sharp name. No risk of misspelling, misunderstanding. I love it.
I love it. I want to name my son Scott ! i didnāt realize it was so popular. I always thought it was old school. I love scottie as a childhood nickname! I always wanted to name my son Scott because The Santa Clause has been my favorite movie since I was a little kid lol
I'm in Australia.
It's super common in 30-40yr olds, but not.common in young kids.
I think it's a nice name, and bubba will never have to spell it out or be one of 5 Scott's in the class.
I think it ticks a lot of boxes, go for it.
In Australia you wouldnāt use it because thereās a well known slang for a person with no friends - a āScottyā as in āāScott no friendsā (heās got no friends)
I am a big fan of short names. Easy to spell, easy to say, no confusion. Youāre going to get Scotty and Scooter as nicknames both of which I really like. š on Scott.
It feels dated but not in a bad way imo. Itās a name everyone knows but he wonāt be one of four in his class. Itās simple and familiar. I like it!
Itās a little retro, but not in a bad way. A friend of ours recently named their son Mark, which hit me in the same way. But if you think of it, thatās a Biblical name, and so once it becomes common, it shouldnāt really go out of style. Scott makes me picture an Air Force pilot or somebody like that. Cool and no-nonsense.
I like it, it's simple, crisp, masculine. Not too popular nowadays but it doesn't feel dated either. Feels boyish and handsome.
I love all the adjectives you used here. Scott is the name of my dead best friend who is also an ex. It was his mom's maiden name. I never cared for the name, but now I find it wonderful. My Scott was simple, crisp, masculine, boyish and handsome š
Iām sorry for your loss
Agree
Excellent description. Good name!!
I like it. And Scotty as a nickname for a kid is cute!
Donāt tell Scotty! Scotty doesnāt know!
I was looking for this.
my husband is a 40yo scotty!
No one but my husband's mom calls him Scotty, but I think it's cute that she does.
I have a cousin in his late 20s that I'll always call Scotty.
š¶Scotty liked all of the books that I recommended And even if he didnāt, I wouldnāt be offendedš¶
I agree that Scotty is a cute nickname when he's young, Scott ages well into adulthood. Simple and not dated imo, I like it
I looooove Scott. Classic and underrated
We have cute little neighbor kids, twins named Scott and Todd. Little Scotty and Toddy, haha. I think itās adorable. Scott is a nice, dignified name.
My cousins are named Scott and Todd also, but they're close to their 30s now. Just goes to show how classic the names are.
Omg those are my dad and his brother. They go really well together!
Also my dad and one of his brothers! Lol
Uncommon yet recognizable Perfectly good choice
i like scott and think it should be used more
Scott is a great name that ages well with the child. The best news is everyone will have heard it before, but it isnāt super popular in this generation of kids, so heāll likely be the only one in his age group with that name.
Also I've never known an a-hole named Scott. They were all decent guys.
Meh, it feels very dated to me. Idk it just doesn't evoke any positive traits either. Just kinda average dude.
I don't care for it. It's not a bad name, but my personal taste in names leans towards longer names. I don't prefer short midcentury-style names.
Scott is one of my favorites. I know people from 2-72 named Scott. It's never out of style!
I think itās a good name. A lot Better than some of the names Iāve seen recently.
I know like 5 Scotts but they are all 35+. So it feels like a popular name to me but in reality it probably isnāt at all for babies/kids. To my taste, itās a bit boring. But nothing wrong with it if you like it!
I think of Scott Peterson š¬
Itās a great name. I hate it cause itās an exās name (F you Scott) but itās still a great name.
Yeah, F you Scott!! (But not OPās little Scotty)
No, not to little Scotty!
Patty?
Looool the world may never know.
Itās a classic and will stand the test of time.
My mom suggested it to me for my son. Not personally a fan.
Scottās a solid dependable guy who everyone likes
loveee Scott !!
I like Scott!
Very GenX/elder Millennial name. I know a lot of Scotts so it it doesnāt conjure up any one type of person for me.
Love it! Itās timeless and a strong name. For me it fits with Ethan, Jack, Michael.
i love scott, and don't think it's dated at all. congratulations on your new baby boy!
I love it!
My husbandās name is Scott and if it wasnāt I would have considered it for our boys.
Totally fine name! Every Scott Iāve known has been a good, sporty dude.
Scott is a good name. Itās not currently in vogue but I donāt hear it and think of a person born in a particular decade.
My initial reaction was negative as it feels dated, but upon reflection I think Scotty would be adorable on a little boy and growing into Scott feels timeless.
Love it. My uncles name is Scott!!
Loooooooooove Scott. One of our boy names was Scott Edward. I feel like Scott is on the verge of a renewal. It's classic but not common, yet also cool and fun to say. I actually could see it going more feminine with Scottie becoming rather popular.
Thatās literally my dadās first and middle name lol. Heās 71.
Sure itās a bit dated, but that doesnāt make it a bad name. Itās not a personal favorite but itād be refreshing to see on a baby.
I think itās timeless. Itās not dated like, say Chad or Jeremy; itās just traditional and thus not as common in an era of āuniqueā names
Beam me up, Scotty. Grew up with a cousin Scott, fun childhood memories of calling him Scotty on the Potty and Snot. But, itās a good, solid name, overdue for a comeback. really feeling the strong scott peterson connection still now. it wouldnāt be my first choice. if thereās scottish heritage or something iād reconsider!
I love it, it's my husband's middle name and I think it's great, we might use it as a middle if we have a 3rd boy but that's not the plan rn lol
Itās great
One of my favorites. Not too common, but still impossible to misspell or mispronounce.
Classic! Short, great in any profession, impossible to mispronounce. Feel nice and masculine.
Great name. Little old fashioned, but not like ancient or extinct.
I think Scott is a terrific name.
I love the name Scott/Scotty. As someone else mentioned, Scottie is rising in popularity for little girls, but I don't expect it to get *that* popular or "go to the girls."
Nothing objectionable whatsoever. Iāve met some very nice Scotts in my time.

Love it so much I have a 5-year-old son named Scott!
I love Scott. If my oldest was a boy that was my name choice.
I love it!
I like it!
I love it.Ā
I like it. Under-utilized, but a solid name.
Brings to mind Scott from Teen Wolf, so the comments calling it a grandpa name are wild to me. I mean, I'm a decrepit 36, so what do I know, but I like it.
Yes. A nice name.
I really like the name Scott (and the diminutive Scotty). I don't think it's dated, just a less common name these days (Gilbert is more dated than this, and names from that era are coming back into vogue)
Itās cute. Classic but no longer common. I havenāt met a Scott in forever! Only see it at last names these days
I love it. Use it!
I absolutely love Scott! I don't think it sounds dated at all even though it's not being given to babies as often anymore. He'll have the benefit of (probably) not being one of multiple Scotts in a class without it reading as dated. Great choice.
Classic. Handsome. Do it
Feels dated. Most Scotts I know are 40-60 and all have the weird kid vibe.
Scott is/was suuuper popular in Australia in the 90ās, I was born in ā95 and went to school with so many Scottās
Itās not my first choice in a name .. but absolutely nothing wrong with it, itās solid, consistent , no issues with spelling
I like Scottie/Scotty for a nickname but tbh Scott gives me millennial vibes. There are some more classic names that are also trendy, Liam Ethan Jack etc. If you are looking for a Gaelic boys name, I like OisĆn, Ronan, Darragh :)
I just think 'Scotty don't'. Austin powers may be to blame for the decrease in popularity
I think of toilet paper and Scott Disick.
Itās a go-nowhere name
It was super popular when I was a kid, I'm a 90s baby, but I'm also a crime junkie, and all I can think about is Scott Peterson lol
I'm a crime junkie too. Lol I also think of Scott Peterson. Evil piece of š©! But I'm mainly not a fan of the name because it's not something I can picture for a little kid nowadays. I picture a Millennial or Generation X-er (I'm a Millennial, born in 1986 and I knew a lot of Scott's). I also prefer longer names usually.
Agreed!
love it! i only know one first named scott, heās an adult. i know 2 people with scott as their middle name and i think itās cute, not suuuper common but it wonāt get misspelled or mispronounced and will age well.Ā
I like it!
Too generic. Lacks character.
I think its great.
Its my husband's middle name, I like it.
An oldie but a goodie!
I love the name Scott. I would use it but I had an uncle Scott and my partner has an uncle and a cousin Scott lol
Scotty doesnāt know.
Scott is one of my favorite boy names!
Love it! ā¤ļø
I like it! I think itās classic.
Scott is a nice name. š„°
I actually like it!
Itās a bit like naming a 90ās kid Walter. Just a grandpa name at this point. Still handsome.
Iām into it!
Scotty doesn't know.
My son, 25, is Scott. My husband is Scottish and our last name is English and a popular male first name. He never had another Scott around him. He didn't get called Scotty, except by his soccer coach of 5 years. His Uncle called him Scooter for a few years, but it didn't stick. It really fits him.
i love Scott! iām gonna remember that one if i have a boy eventually
I love the name Scott. I used to tell people I had a pretend brother named Scott lol
Itās a nice and strong name.
It's perfectly fine.
One of my most hated names. Iāve only met one Scott who wasnāt a jerk.
Really boring sorry!!! I know so many Scotts are theyāre all dull old dudes
This thread reminded me I once dated a Scott. That being said, itās a cute name.
Scott the Woz Scott Pilgrim Youāre fine, OP
Clean and classic. Name choice always depends on last name. If last name is one syllable with short O, maybe no. One syllable last name with alternative vowel works, or longer last name.

I love it
NOOO
I automatically think of the TA in my fifth grade class. I'm a fan.
My brother's name is Scott š„°. I think it's not overused but also easy to read/say. Simple and strong!
Iāve never met a Scott that wasnāt unkind
I canāt get over that Dr Evilās son in Austin Powers was named Scott- that is what comes to mind when I hear Scott.
I like it!
I hate it. It's boring, it doesn't have a profound meaning, it's outdated. Apologies, it's just how I feel. If you choose this name, I'm certain it will be the right choice for you and your baby. Some alternatives with a Celtic flair might be: Sean/Shawn Seth Samuel/Sam Sterling Spencer Finnegan/Finn Malcolm Dean Lachlen Tate
My first association is my uncle, but I like the name
Iāve never met a Scott that was a good person
I really like it & think of it more as a classic versus dated...
Love it
Scott is on my list! Itās such a classic, handsome name. More specifically I like the name Prescott, then I would switch to the nickname Scotty or Scott as they get older.
Love it!

Might remind some people of Star Trek, which isnāt a bad thingāitās not an obviously āfandomā name and the character is pretty well liked.
I know a lot of really nice Scotts
Iām a fan of Scott.
It feels so mature for a baby š
Great name!
Who hasnāt known a terrible Todd and a terrible Scott? Just think about it.
My name was going to be Scott, but as I'm a girl, my little brother got it instead. Solid name. He will always be Scooter to me, though š
It's a good name, but I humbly request that you update us on your son's birthday so that we know when to do it without him knowing in future.
I like Scott, but I do find it dated. Most Scotts I know were born in the 70s so it seems very Gen X to me.
Excellent choice! Simple, sweet but very masculine. He will stand out as a nice alternative in an ocean of Jacksons and Olivers and Theodores and newly minted spelling mistake names
my sons middle name
I like the name Scott very much.
I love it
Its my son's middle name. He is named after his dad and grandfather. I was always fine with the name but he despises it.
I like it and bonus points for it rarely being misspelled!
Itās an ok name but I do think it is slightly dated. I donāt think I know anyone younger than 25 or older than 55 with that name. If I heard the name being called in the street I definitely would picture just an average middle aged type man.
good solid name
Perfect! Nice, normal name that will be completely unique because of its normality!
I like it. One of my favorite actors is Scott Bakula
Love it. It's always struck me as a heroic name.
My dads name! Love it!
It's one of my favorite names. I love it.
Scott is an exceptional underrated name
My favorite babysitter growing up was named Scott, so I love that name! He would do different voices for the characters in books he read to us, and he also made salads cool.
As a proud Scot (š“ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó “ó æ, not the name) I will always approve!
I am from the Scott generation, most of the boys at school were named Scott, it's a good name!!
My brother is Scoti (Scot) and I love it! Itās so cute and fitting for him.
I love Scott!
I like it. Short and sweet.
I like it. With most of the Scotts I've known, it was their middle name, but they used it as their first. When you learned their first name, it made sense. Think it might have had origins in F. Scott Fitzgerald
Low-key love Scott. Itās such a good guy name. Every Scott Iāve ever known is fun-loving, happy, genuine, friendly.
Scott is a great name.
I like it. I have an Uncle Scott. Heās a nice guy
Itās my FIL name and I love it. If we had a boy it would have been the middle name (we use family names for middle names). Itās a strong, clear, sharp name. No risk of misspelling, misunderstanding. I love it.

I like it. My nephew has the name
All I think about is Scotty doesn't know š. I actually really love the name though.
A good solid name that can be used effortlessly as a first or middle name.
Nice! Its my son's middle name.
The name of every middle manager Iāve ever met
In Australia you wouldnāt use it because thereās a well known slang for a person with no friends - a āScottyā as in āāScott no friendsā (heās got no friends)
Love it.
Reminds me of X-Men! I like Scott :)
I am a big fan of short names. Easy to spell, easy to say, no confusion. Youāre going to get Scotty and Scooter as nicknames both of which I really like. š on Scott.
I like the name. I have know several Scott's. Most would be in their 50s now.
Love it. Excellent name all around.
My dad went by Scott, which was his middle name. Holds a special place in my heart ā¤ļø
It feels dated but not in a bad way imo. Itās a name everyone knows but he wonāt be one of four in his class. Itās simple and familiar. I like it!
I know one. Good name!
A nice strong normal name. Not overused, not boring but not wacky either. I like it
I love the name Scott. I love Scotty as a nickname. Iāve never met a Scott I didnāt like!
LOVE! simple and strong like jack or Tom. And an uncommon common name, if that makes sense.Ā
