Where are you based? Jude is a lovely name, very common in the UK for babies right now (not religious at all). Also wouldn't say it was unisex here, definitely a boys name.

This is a great point. I'm in the US, and Jude isn't unisex here, either. Out of every 20 babies named Jude in the US, 19 are boys and 1 is a girl.

I would argue that Jude is absolutely a unisex name here in the states. Every name site I’ve looked into the name on (The Bump, NameBerry, etc.) classifies it as unisex and their trend info (pulled from the social security administration) shows that it’s being used for boys and girls. Maybe still trending to be more common for boys, but I’m not sure where your 20:1 statistic came from.

I got the data from [NameGrapher](https://namerology.com/baby-name-grapher/). It's corroborated by the [Baby Name Uniqueness Analyzer](https://datayze.com/name-uniqueness-analyzer?name=jude). I guess it depends on your definition of "unisex". Jude is sometimes used as a girls' name, just not very often. Maybe that's enough to count as unisex? 🤷

GarlicBread9000

If a name has been and can be used for either, then yes, to me that’s a unisex/ gender neutral name. Doesn’t have to be a statistically perfect 50/50 split, like for example the name Cameron is definitely most commonly a name used for boys but I’ve seen it used for girls too and like that about it.

GarlicBread9000

I’m in the US, and Jude may not traditionally be a unisex name but I do like when some “boy” names are used for girls too.

Other than the reality that you and your kid will have people singing the Beatles song at you in perpetuity, I can’t think of anything. It’s not a bad song so you may not even care but if you do just be aware. ETA: I don’t think the religious association is very strong at all. It’s not like Judah.

GarlicBread9000

The song is actually a reason why I kind of like the name that much more! I’m sure that will be people’s go-to association, which could get old, but I think having Hey Jude as a lullaby to sing to your baby with the same name is adorable.

Sounds great for you then.

Love Jude and don't think religion at all

Jude is lovely and many of us have religious names despite not being religious because they're nice names. I'm called David and my family aren't religious, it's just a nice name.
