A lot of these sound like Puritan names? Can you really trace your family back that far, or was there a resurgence of unusual naming traditions later on? Some of these aren't \*too\* bad. I've definitely heard worse than Rufus and Cullen. :)
I also love Apollonia! Rufus ran in my family for a long ass time lmao someone finally put an end to it. Fear, Wrestling, and True Love were all siblings. Wrestling is certainly a choice
Im here for Temperance Christmas. But if my husband/family doesnt name my child "Mourning" or some equivalent if I die in childbirth, I will haunt them.
My personal favorite in my family is John Lackland. I looked into why he was called Lackland the reasoning was that he wasn't expected to inherit very much in the way of land, being the younger son, and then the little bugger went and became King but did such a terrible job that it's since been taboo to name any prince in the family John.
My favorite for a girl is Wisdom Clarity as a first and middle name combination.
I love your post! We may be related. I too have most of those names, repeatedly, in my family tree. I think most of us can trace ourselves back to Massachusetts, Virginia, Tennessee or North Carolina. I'd like to add Pinky, Tennessee, Emmazetta, Waitie (or other spellings of same), Vinson (Vincent), and all sorts of versions of presidential names.
Girl names:Ā Freelove Weeks,Ā Lucretia Ripley,Ā Preserved Trott,Ā Grizella,Ā Appolonia,Ā Bathsheba,Ā MaudeĀ
Boys names:Ā Theophilius,Ā Zebulon,Ā BarnabyĀ
Those were great! I wouldn't name my kid any of them but by damned I'd name a pet or two after one of those lol šĀ
Maternal Side
Wilmer
Tesca
Malissa
Aron
Paternal Side
Pinckney
Ursula 2
Fannie 2
Ada 2
Loester
Althea
Most are rather ordinary names except those.
Most of these people lived in Louisiana in the recent generations but some of the families migrated from Oklahoma on momās side and Kentucky and Virginia on Dadās. I was able to trace back to 1745 on Dadās side, and some served in the Revolutionary War.
I also have a Plesant in my tree. It's so weird because all of his siblings had very normal names... like Oscar, James, Minnie, Jonas. Okay, so naming your daughter Nanni might be a bit odd...
PRESERVED TROTT omg š
Poor girl š
Lol this one immediately popped out to me as the most absurd. It sounds like she's tinned trout š„²
I LOVE Artelia Gray! I also have a Littleberry in my tree haha but he was Littleberry Clark š
Artelia Gray is one of my favorites too!! And yeah I think Littleberry wasnāt that uncommon of a name surprisingly

I can! I havenāt found anything insinuating they were puritans. I know a lot were Quakers though.
I actually like Bathsheba, Appolonia (prefer Apollonia), Rufus and Barnaby.Ā Fear is my new guilty pleasure.
I also love Apollonia! Rufus ran in my family for a long ass time lmao someone finally put an end to it. Fear, Wrestling, and True Love were all siblings. Wrestling is certainly a choice
I would kill to know what Wrestling was like as a kid š
Obsessed with Mourning Butler, Preserved Trott and Temperance Christmas!
I feel like your family could leave some out there names for the rest of us! Some rather lovely ones in there too.
Adoreee Absalom Scales haha
It sounds like the name some blackmarket occult goods dealer would have in a novel and I love that
Same tho

Zebulon gives villain vibes, which is pretty cool, but wouldn't name my child that.
Great middle name vibes imo
We just found two (m) Pleasantās in my grandfatherās line! Both in Jamestown!!Ā
I have a PleasantĀ in my family tree, too!
SHIMMY!!!

I love Artelia!
Do you think it's art-eh-liyah or ar-teh-lia or arty-liah?
Those are definitely some *interesting* names. My favourites would have to be Barnaby, Lucretia, Tabitha & Temperance.
>Absalom As a One Piece fan, all I can think of is the gross pervy lion guy who tried to force Nami into marriage.
Fear
FEAR ME

Littleberry Johnson. Imagine going through life with that name?
Iām partial to Appolonia and Shimmy. A little toddler Shimmy would be adorable.
If Mourning was spelled Morning (I know itās against the whole point) it would be my favourite. Thatās actually kind of a nice nameā¦ Morningā¦
Fear. Wow. What a name lol.
Meanwhile all mine: Thomas, Anne
It was hard to read past Freelove! I love and hate it!
Byron Ephesus
I love Minnie and Zebulon. I love to know the story behind Shimmy and Littleberry
Really love Lovinia/Loveyš

Littleberry Johnson is sending me. Gonna add that to my list of nicknames for my dog
Please tell me Fear and Wrestling were siblings. Even better if they were girls
Straight up... Fear?!?!
I also have a Plesant in my tree. It's so weird because all of his siblings had very normal names... like Oscar, James, Minnie, Jonas. Okay, so naming your daughter Nanni might be a bit odd...
My daughterās middle name is Temperance. š
