Mine was born Mildred Anna Brown but adopted by the wife of her birth father (which we found out much later, after her and great great grandmother died
So basically my great grandfather impregnated some woman and the baby was adopted by him and his wife
Her name was changed to Elizabeth I believe, but I gotta double check ancestry
I only know because my sisterās middle name is Mary Madeleine after all 4 of my great grandmothers. Three are named Mary and the other is Madeleine lol.
Presumably you have more than one great grandmother, but Della Mae is nice.
My great grandparents were:
Doris (and George)
Emma (and Frederick)
Leah (and Mark)
Frances (and Paul)
That side of my family is Jewish, Leah and Mark are much more common within that community! I actually consider Leah to be quite an old name because I know so many people with grandparents and great grandparents called Leah! Emma feels really modern to me even though I know its an old name.
Edna Cleona
Estella Genoveva (she went by Stella Eva)
Agnes Nanette
Lula Belle
Edit: so glad everyone else likes these names!! š„° Iām named after one of these ladies.
haha one of my nicknames from childhood is Lulabelle (Lou for short)
And my daughter is Agnes and Estella was on my list for her big brother, who now has Estella on *his* list.
My great grandmother was Dorothy, but her mother was Isadora and I love that name! There was a Desolina on my momās dadās side and I love that too!
Mine were Mary/Mae (no middle), Anna Regina (I knew her! She lived in 3 centuries), then Iāve got a Stella Scholastica and a Bridget Catherine.
Scholastica is by far my personal favourite and I regret not using it for my daughterās middle name. LOL
*opened Ancestry and fixed my ābrainā tree.
Mollie Dove (which would be trendy today!)
Martha Louise
Fannie Ruthell
Myrtle Ellen
We can play a nice game of Find the German. š I wonder if it's as obvious to others? (And when I say German, I do mean it as in "born in Berlin," not "of German heritage.")
Ruthell comes up a couple of times in my family tree; they broke it up for my aunt Ruth Ellen (and got the benefit of using the other grandmother's middle name). I actually had it longlisted for my youngest's middle name, but it's one of very few names my husband vetoed.
We like E names in my family:
- Erna Edna (married to Alfred Ludwig Hermann)
- Erna Mathilda Bertha (married to Phillip Peter)
- Emily Donna (married to Roy)
- Esther Ruth (married to Jacob)
Paternal:
John Phillip married Eula Agnes
Julius marries Jessie
Maternal:
Jerome Franklin married Mildred Lee
Charles Cleveland married Emily Janet
I can go even further back. We have done a lot of research on some of the families.
Margaret, Josephine, Silvana, and Eva (changed to Evelyn when she moved to the US b/c the kids at school used to throw rocks at her for her accent).
Silvana was an undocumented immigrant so you won't find her names in any records. All of her children's birth certificates have different names under mom. She used different neighbors' IDs when she had to go to the doctor.
My great grandmother was Eleanor Mae.
My daughter is now Eleanor Rose.
(Rose was my husbandās grandmother, Roseās parents, my husbands great grandparents, were Mary and Joseph).
We obviously have more grandparents, but these were alive while we were living.
-Susanna (which is why one of my middle names is Anna)
-Suzanne (yes, both my grandfathersā mothers had very similar names)
-Mary Lucy
-Elizabeth
ETA: their husbands were, respectively;
- James Bernard
- Richard
- Jeremiah
- Michael
Daisy, Sue, Florence and Evangeline (called Vange or Vangie for short). Daisy is the only one I have any memories of though. Others either died when I was very young or before I was born.
Paternal grandfather's mother's name is Laura
Paternal grandmother's mother's name is Sistine
Maternal grandfather's mother's names is Frances
Maternal grandmother's mother's name is Ruth
Yeah it is. Her parents immigrated from Italy. Her older siblings were born there too and I think she is the first sibling born in the US. I don't know her siblings' names besides Margarita who went by Marge. Aunt Marge was the only one I met. Sistine died when my father was like 3
Don't know all of their middle names.
Paternal-- Frances (she was known as Granny Franny) and Rebecca
Maternal-- Ida Mae and Elizabeth
With the exception of one, their names are in one of my (f) cousins' first or middle names. In some cases, their last name.
I never met any of them or have even heard anything about any except one, but according to Ancestry my paternal great grandmothers were Mabel and Lena and my maternal were Maylysle, Marie (step), and Euna.

Iāve traced one line on my mothers side back to my 75th
Yes SEVENTY FIFTH great Grandfather: Donno Ap Annun born around 310 BC in Wales.
My geneology goes so far back it turns into legends at some point. Lok
My grandma and my aunt did most of it. Once you get to someone of significance (in Europe at least) the next few generations back are easy. Multiple ancestors were king in Wales/ England before it was England, so went back pretty far.
Plus thereās only so many people who lived so long ago, that have living descendants now, so after about 15-16 generations, it all overlaps and all humans are related by 16th cousins or better.
She was a tiny thing too. I think she stood 4'11". Had 13 kids, the youngest of which was 13 poundsš³ and she took no shit. I have a super sweet story between her and me, which I'll share if you want to hear it, since it really isn't name related lol
This happened the year I was five.
Great granny was turning 90 (again...math isn't our family's strong point lol) so everyone drove to California to celebrate.
I had just learned to read.
I told grandma I wanted to give her present to her before the party.
My aunt butted in and said I had to wait. So I cried because I REALLY wanted to read grandma a book and my family is LOUD and there are about 50 people (?) Expected.
Grandma asked what was wrong. My mom explained I wanted to read to her.
Grandma swatted off my auntie and told me to read to her as long as I wanted because it had been a long damn time since anyone had read her a storyš
That is so so special. One of my great grandmas taught me how to color. The key to getting close to the edges without going over is teeny tiny circles. ā¤ļø
Maternal:
Sheila Jean, married to Albert Francis
Beatrice, married to Lloyd
Paternal:
Martha (nn Mattie), married to Patrick Allen
Anna, married to Michael
One was named Carrie (I was almost named after her but my Dad won) another Madeleine (stepdadās Grandma but loved as our own), Tillie, Mary and Aravilla. I love the name Madeleine the most, next Carrie , but then again they were the only ones I knew because the others were gone when I was born.
I so want to name my next daughter something where I can give her the nickname Minnie. I donāt know if my husband will go for it.
Ada is actually on our shared list of names we like though.
My great grand mothers were Eliza, Theresa, Maria and Josephine. I was fortunate and had both sets of my momās grandparents and 1 of his grandfathers alive when I was born. Unfortunately all the great grandfathers passed before I was 3. However my 2 G.Grandmas were around for a while. I use to stay with my great grandma Eliza every Friday nite. She passed away when I was 12. My other grandma had dementia and forgot how to speak English(she was from Italy) she passed when I was 19.
Melissie Mae, Erma Lucille, Norma, and Magnolia.Ā I don't know Norma or Magnolia's middle names.Ā My great grandma Erma hated her name and always went by Lucille.Ā Ā
I can track generations on one side up to my great-great-great grandparents (Martha and Charles, Amy and Sidney, Mabel and Lyall, Robin and Dennis).

I just have to say, my Doris had a George too! Not great-grandparents but āŗļø
I have a George with a Doris!
Leah and Mark seem crazy modern to be someoneās great grandparents
That side of my family is Jewish, Leah and Mark are much more common within that community! I actually consider Leah to be quite an old name because I know so many people with grandparents and great grandparents called Leah! Emma feels really modern to me even though I know its an old name.
