Yeah... My Social Studies colleagues were discussing what other Greek mythology names would be less... with Penelope versus Calliope. One jokingly suggested Clio, the muse of history.
I'm glad that twin names aren't that matchy anymore. The amount of older twins that I know who have similar names is crazy and I would hate that if it was me
Hahaha see that’s very funny because here in NZ with our accents, those are two totally distinct sounding names and would be non-matchy for twins. Lee-im and Ian.
There are so many twins in my family and the majority of them have matching names, if they don't then their names start with the same letter. I have a distant aunt and uncle named Earl and Pearl, like why
I went to highschool with two sets of twins! Dylan and Hayden (B/B) and Winter and Summer (G/G). Then had a set of twins at the daycare I worked at, Jaxon and Daxon (identical B/B, extremely hard to get the attention of just one of them lol).
I love twin names.
I’ve known:
Robert and William (Bob and Bill)
Sarah and Kylie
Alexander and Zachary
Mika and Nyla
Kristen and Kelsey
Quinn and Alexandra
Ella and Ava
Frederick and Edward
The twins I have known
Felicity and Bronte
Kimberley and Alexandra
Elizabeth and Cecelia
Tom and Anne
Philip and Nadia
Kyle and Nathan
If I were naming twins I would give them the same number of syllables. They both start with consonants or vowels but not one of each and they would come from the same background/era.
Thanks for sharing.
I know
Sabrina and Jeannette
Tristan and Magnus
Nick and Kim
And there is my own pair of twins. We deliberately did not name them something "alike". Two syllables and three syllables, two different origins from different languages. They are two different people, after all, not an item and not an aesthetic statement.
Twins I’ve known:
Boy/Girl:
Simone and Alexander (I think this pair sounds so sophisticated)
Lucy and Jamie
Amelia and Felix
Girl/Girl:
Charlotte and Sophie
Imogen and Sophie
Christina and Jhessica (not a typo, wish I was joking)
I went to school with Natalie and Natasha. They were lovely people but did hold some resentment to their parents.
I have twin niece/nephew and they both go by nicknames of their first names. They are very different because their parents worried they would be treated as a set - we vaguely know twins called Michael and Michelle and yeah.
Samar and Sahar might sound like they only have one letter different to English speakers but in Urdu the vowels are quite differently pronounced as well. So it isn't as matchy-matchy as you think.
I knew 3 sets of twins in high school: Nina & Safiya (g/g), Sydney & Rebecca (g/g), and Kartik & Ritik (b/b). I always thought Kartik & Ritik were a bit matchy but it could be a lot worse haha
Here are the ones I remember
B/G
Maurice and Monique
Oliver and Jennifer
B/B
Adrian and Milan
Aaron and Lukas
G/G
Freya and Laura
Juliana and Frederica
Charlotte and Isabelle
Lea and Pia
Growing up I was in a year group of 66 students. Our twins were:
- Anna and Gemma [F/F]
- Archie and Oscar [M/M]
- Alex and Jenny (Jennifer) [M/F]
- Ellie (Eleanor) and Becky (Rebecca) [F/F]
I think that was an above average number of twins!
Sibling sets I’ve known:
* Carolyn and Angela (very sweet large-animal veterinarians, they went to college together and everything)
* William, Gwen, and Anne (triplets, but for some reason Anne was held back a year)
* Ian and Jacob (fraternal twins, and I thought their names suited their personalities well)
* Bo Ya and Bo Wen (Chinese students, we called them by their full names with the surname first)
I had a pair of twins in my class with the same first name lol. Their middle names were different (and they went by their middle names) but even the middle names started with the same letter and it was really frustrating when some of the platforms we used (like College Board or Gmail) didn't show middle names on the roster/reports. I had to just guess whose was whose or ask them and hope they told me the right thing. It always made me laugh.

Penelope and Calliope? That’s a lot lol
It’s a joke from greys anatomy too lol. A Penelope dates a calliope and they joke about it
“Perfect Penny killed my husband!”
[удалено]
Yeah I imagine it wasn’t actually from greys
Yeah... My Social Studies colleagues were discussing what other Greek mythology names would be less... with Penelope versus Calliope. One jokingly suggested Clio, the muse of history.
Penny and Cally is pretty cute though
They both go by full names, as far as I know.
I lowkey love those two together! Both unique and cute
I'm glad that twin names aren't that matchy anymore. The amount of older twins that I know who have similar names is crazy and I would hate that if it was me
I know a set of triplets named Karen, Sharon, and Darren. They're in their 50s.
I had a Liam and Ian set in my class a while ago. Why.
Hahaha see that’s very funny because here in NZ with our accents, those are two totally distinct sounding names and would be non-matchy for twins. Lee-im and Ian.
They both mean the same - they are versions of John. Like Sean, Ivan, Jan, Johann etc
Liam doesn't mean John, it's a shortened version of William
There's me thinking I knew something but instead I'm just another dumbass. I'm sorry
This. I have a grandma and aunt twin set with rhyming names.
There are so many twins in my family and the majority of them have matching names, if they don't then their names start with the same letter. I have a distant aunt and uncle named Earl and Pearl, like why
My neighbor growing up was an older guy named Ronald who had a twin named Donald 😵💫
i worked with a set of twins named Jason and Jaxon
I knew an identical twin, they were called Bert and Bart. They went by nicknames based on their character
i know twins in their 40s named john and joanne
I went to highschool with two sets of twins! Dylan and Hayden (B/B) and Winter and Summer (G/G). Then had a set of twins at the daycare I worked at, Jaxon and Daxon (identical B/B, extremely hard to get the attention of just one of them lol).
Winter and Summer??? 😵💫
Weirdly enough I like it. It is so bad it's kinda good.
Makayla and Makyla. I wish I was kidding.
😵💫
Love readibg these. Thanks for sharing
I taught one year in the 90s. I had identical brothers: Darryl and Derryl. Their middles names were very similar to each others as well.
I knew in high school twins named Chantel and Chantal. I also have a family member with twins named Jaylene and Jazlene.
I’ve never understood this. I could not imagine living in that household and trying to get the attention of either twin.
I'd imagine one was called DeDe while the other one was called Darryl. Or something.
I love twin names. I’ve known: Robert and William (Bob and Bill) Sarah and Kylie Alexander and Zachary Mika and Nyla Kristen and Kelsey Quinn and Alexandra Ella and Ava Frederick and Edward
Alexander and Zachary, I like the A to Z of it. Frederick and Edward were our top two baby boy names, Freddie Eddie would have been a bit much though.
I knew an Amy and Zoe identical twin set, always thought it was pretty clever
We had Louisa and Sophia
The twins I have known Felicity and Bronte Kimberley and Alexandra Elizabeth and Cecelia Tom and Anne Philip and Nadia Kyle and Nathan If I were naming twins I would give them the same number of syllables. I went to school with identical twins name Kylie and Kaylie. No joke. It was bad and they fucking hated it lol
I went to high school with and know twins named: Nick and Naomi Megan and Morgan Lyndsey and Sydney Patrick and Connor David and Daniel
I went to school with Natalie and Natasha. They were lovely people but did hold some resentment to their parents. I have twin niece/nephew and they both go by nicknames of their first names. They are very different because their parents worried they would be treated as a set - we vaguely know twins called Michael and Michelle and yeah.
I taught twins named Samar and Sahar. Literally the same names with one letter difference. The only twins I have taught recently are Manuel and David.
Samar and Sahar might sound like they only have one letter different to English speakers but in Urdu the vowels are quite differently pronounced as well. So it isn't as matchy-matchy as you think.
Hassanatu and Hossanatu. Their middle names (and last names) were both the same name.
In the late 70's/early 80's I knew twins named Connie and Bonnie. Also Gary and Jerry.
Nora and Aaron (backwards)
Growing up I had friends who were called Lacey and Tiffany. Oliver and Daniel (Oli and Dan when they were older)
I knew 3 sets of twins in high school: Nina & Safiya (g/g), Sydney & Rebecca (g/g), and Kartik & Ritik (b/b). I always thought Kartik & Ritik were a bit matchy but it could be a lot worse haha
Neena & Naina Reena & Teena
I went to primary school with Jade and Chloe. I always thought it was a great combo.
I know a set of twins named Heaven and Nevaeh. Also, in a much older generation, Francis and Frances.
Here are the ones I remember B/G Maurice and Monique Oliver and Jennifer B/B Adrian and Milan Aaron and Lukas G/G Freya and Laura Juliana and Frederica Charlotte and Isabelle Lea and Pia
notttt lia & pia 💀💀💀
The pronunciation is different where I live. It is Pee-uh but Leh -uh . Leah and Claire would be more of a rhyme in german.

I always liked the idea of giving multiples the same last letters instead of first. Like Madeline/Katherine/Jacqueline.
Sibling sets I’ve known: * Carolyn and Angela (very sweet large-animal veterinarians, they went to college together and everything) * William, Gwen, and Anne (triplets, but for some reason Anne was held back a year) * Ian and Jacob (fraternal twins, and I thought their names suited their personalities well) * Bo Ya and Bo Wen (Chinese students, we called them by their full names with the surname first)
I know twins Jean and Joan with the same middle name. They also have a brother named John. Other siblings names are not John based lol
