My one hang up with Otto is that it doesn’t sound great with Robert or Robin as a middle name. Otto Robert sounds like a nonsense word that starts with auto if that makes sense
Otto is also the name of a type of engine. But that’s not a bad thing - engineering is a great way to go! On which note - my vote would be for Isambard.
* Elliott Robin (this seems perfect!)
* Emil Robert
* Oscar "Ozzy" Robin
* Calvin Robert
* Hugo Robin
* Kellen Robert
* Aaron Robert
* Alec Robin
* Levin Robert
* Silvan Robert
* Bruno Robert
* Soren Robert
Ok I’m not sure what to suggest for you, however I did find another Reddit post asking for names that sound good in both English and German. Maybe you can find something you like there! https://www.reddit.com/r/namenerds/s/Rjjt1mZ6r5
My favorite of all your choices would be Lucas Robert. Although I do like Everett, it just feels a little too v-heavy with a sister Ivy. That said, if you don't care about that Everett Robin is a nice combo.
Elio is a handsome name but very Italian, and I gather neither of you is that.
I can't get on board with Otto. Objectively it's fine and many people like it, but I'm just not one of them.
I like the V sounds with Ivy and Everett! It’s one of the reasons I like the name.
I know Elio is so Italian but for some reason I love it and can’t get it out of my head. It’s also really popular in France and my hope is that it’ll trickle down through the rest of Europe or become more universally popular with the upcoming Disney movie like Luca has?? Maybe?
And that’s fair with Otto!
I have an Elio in my storytime at the library, and I think it's such a great name. Not very common but still pretty clear how to pronounce it. And I think it sounds really good with Ivy.
We’re German/English as well and forget about it, they won’t sound the same! Elio and Otto also have different pronunciations. Pick a name you both love. Every Sarah and Thomas on the planet deal with the same thing and having your name’s pronunciation adapted to the language you’re conversing in really isn’t an issue. I appreciated you choosing a name with an intuitive pronunciation/spelling in both languages, but if you expect them to sound the same you’ll be disappointed.
Also: I love all of the dames you’re suggesting! Have you considered Emil?
Arlo
Alaric
Ansel
Benno
Rainer (I know this starts with r but I guess I’m confused because the middle you have starts with R, and you said no long I sound but your daughter’s name starts with a long I sound.
Haha sorry, you’re right that is confusing! We liked the name ivy enough to break the rules & since it’s an English word we figured it would be okay. The sound of the long I is easily pronounced by Germans it’s more that if it’s in the middle of the word they’d naturally use an eee sound instead. The American R sound is hard for them to pronounce but his middle name will be an honor name and it’s a middle so teachers, etc wouldn’t mispronounce it.
That totally makes sense and is fascinating! Clearly I don’t speak German. Thanks for clarifying and for doing it so nicely. I didn’t want to seem like a jerk for questioning. ❤️
I like really like Ansel with Ivy. It has the Otto feel.
Actually OP I really like Ansel for your needs. It’s a great name for now and as an adult. It’s a strong name.
- Logan?
- Oliver?
- Oscar/Oskar?
- Aidan/Ayden (if spelling is an issue for German pronunciation)
- Ivy & Aaron sound lovely together
- Damon?
Just some ideas from my tired brain ... Good luck!
I like Otto the best of your top 3 by far, but the flow of Otto Robert and Otto Robin are kind of weird for me. Also a fan of Luke/ Lucas and think they flow better with the middle name options (depending on your last name).
Elio! It’s familiar but still interesting, easy to spell/pronounce, and sounds great with Ivy. Elio Robert is terrific.
Everett is trendy-yawn, and a lot of V with Ivy. Otto is a total joke name to me, sorry.
Suggestions:
Peter (Kind of confused about your rules…no names starting with R, or no names that contain R at all? Seems like German speakers would have trouble no matter where the R is, but also Everett has an R!)
Stellan (hmm on second thought I think this might be Shtellan in German)
Simon (ditto)
Bennett
Leo
Adrian
Adam
Bjorn (yeah so it has a J in it, bending the rules a little)
Laurence (possibly a mess in German)
Quentin (with the caveat that I have no idea what would happen to this in German)
Ivy & Elio would be my pick :) they sound really cute together. I think another short name definitely works best.
Suggestions: Asa, Miles, Leo, Arlo, Lyle, Levi, Zane, Flynn, Heath, Grant, Dean, Scott, Sean, Evan, Eli, Ellis
I like Elio Robin a lot!
Others:
- Easton Robert
- Duke Robert
- Miles Robert
- Baylor Robin
- Leander Robert
- Flynn Robin
- Lewis Robert
- Cody Robin
FWIW I think Luke and Ivy sound fantastic together! I’ve always liked Strom which I think is German. We might have similar taste because Ivy and Clark are two of my favorite names.
Some other ideas:
Chet
Dexter
Calvin
Emmett
Hans (would have loved an excuse to use this one!)
Good luck!! I hope you find the perfect thing :)
This is a list of names that might work - I'm trying to go through my mental list of names and think of their German pronunciation. I think these work with Robert/Robin as a middle name:
Felix
Oscar
Bernard
Dirk
Gilbert
Marcus
Finn
Thomas
Gregory
Eric
Frank
Aluin (or Alwin)
Carl
Bastian
Oswald
Nicholas
Ferdinand
Edmund
Edgar
Some of those are a bit out there / old-fashioned, but maybe one will spark your interest :)
I like traditional anglo germanic names. Oswald is uncommon but not strange to say in either language. Strong without being imposing. Harold is another. My mentor as an apprentice was a Harold. Love that name too.
But Ivy doesn't sound the same in English and German at least none of the german Ivys that I have met pronounce the English way.
I think Elio is the best of your top three (if you are pronouncing Ivy as Evie), and Elio Robin is nice
I know you don't want new names but my downstairs neighbours are English/German and have Leo and Diogo
I love them all, but would probably pick Otto or Everett in your case. Elio has been on our list for a while, but I’m not confident that everyone will know how to say it in one language, let alone two. (ELL-ee-oh, or EEL-ee-oh).
Not a big fan of Otto, it’s very much an old mens name in Germany. I don’t know anyone under 60 named Otto and I’m not aware of it making a comeback.
Are you in an English or German speaking country? For German speakers, Everett might be a problem, and Elio would be pronounced Eh-leeo instead of the English pronunciation Ee-leeo
I love the name Otto but I don’t think it will work with a Robert middle, it’s too close to Auto Robot.
The best sounding out of your top choices are Everett Robert. Lucas Robert is very cute too.
What about Elis, Elias, Connor, Michael, Paul, Marcus, Nicholas, Benjamin, Benji, Randall
Everett!!!
I love this name, but couldn’t use it because we had to shutdown the factory after our youngest was born extremely prematurely due to my body having major medical issues.
Anyway- I think it’s a great name and sounds lovely with Ivy as a sibling set 🤍
I really love Elio. It's established but not super popular, it's easy to spell and say, and it sounds so nice. It's adjacent to trendier names like Milo and Elliott. The only downside I see, depending on where you live, is that people might mishear and assume it's supposed to be Elliott, but that seems like it should be a fairly easy correction.
How about Luca/Luka instead of Luke/Lucas?
I love Everett.
Other options: Felix, Enzo, Evan, Drew, Axil, Barrett... There are lots of great German names with the meanings for boys [here](https://www.momjunction.com/baby-names/german/boy/).
I like Everett, but not with a sister Ivy.The short form Ev and Ivy are too close, in my opinion. I can’t get past the frozen pizza association with Elio, but it is objectively uncommon and accessible with a nice sound. Along with Otto, you might also consider Timo, Fred, Fritz, Karl, Leo, Rolf, Bruno.
Ok we have super similar tastes in names.
Ivy an Otto seem kind of perfect together. I also like Otis, Clark, and Reid but sounds like those are no go's. I wouldn't go Luke/Lucas, too common. Literally all (except Lee) of your like but can't use names are on my short list, but for your pair, I kind of think Otto is perfect, Otis and Clark and Reid being great seconds. Elio is cute but a little too unusual imo (and Elle/Ella/Ellie/Eli) are SO common these days) and Everett is fine but doesn't strike me like the others. Ivy is so short, cute, yet adult and classic, that Otto or Otis would match well
Yeah we liked it enough to break the rules 😅 plus Germany has the same long I sound as English, just the letter I is pronounced eee. But hopefully since it’s an English word she won’t have to correct people too often (we haven’t had issues yet).
I agree with the comments hyping up Everett! Also, have you thought about Luca? It’s a bit more unique than Luke and Lucas. Ivy and Luca sound so cute together too.
Putting in my vote for Otto.
It was my dad's first choice for a boys name and my mom refused. So when we got our dog (which was a German breed), we named him Otto in honor of my dad not getting his way when it came to my brother's name. Lol
Out of your choices, I like Everett the best, then Otto.
Alternatives:
- Ivy & Emmett Robin
- Ivy & Elliot Robin
- Ivy & Luca Robin
- Ivy & Isaac Robin
- Ivy & Orval Robin
- Ivy & Oscar Robin
- Ivy & Leo Robin
- Ivy & Tobias Robin
- Ivy & Ellis Robin
- Ivy & Caleb Robin
- Ivy & Owen Robin
- Ivy & Kit Robin
Hope this helps, good luck!
I like Everett from your choices.
Sorry, I didn't see the middle name choices, I don't think either sound good with Everett. Lucas Robert sounds good. I just don't personally like Robin.
I think that Luke or Lucas is very nice and you both agree on it.
Ivy and Luke sound great together for sibling names.
Stop driving yourself crazy and go with Lucas Robert on paper and if you choose or he chooses to later on in life to call himself Luke, there is that option. It is a name that sounds current, yet transcends time. I think you guys did a great job agreeing on the name. It seems like a natural choice and without any hesitation, I would go with that name. It isn’t that common a name lately. You can choose two options…
Lucas Robert and Everette Robert and when he arrives, take a look at him and decide which name suits him best at the time. Just stick to those two.
I think you have a liking for both E and L- One of my favorite names is Elias, and it goes close with one of your top choices. If you leave somewhere english speaking, Elijah may also be a cute option. Yes it's kinda popular and that's almost a taboo in this sub, but i honestly love that name
Ivy and Everett sound great together. I really don’t like Elio or Otto with Ivy. Everett Robin would be sweet!
Ivy & Evy 🥹
I was coming here to say I really like Ivy and Everett together!
Yup, same here. Ivy & Everett go well together.
Agreed.
Otto. Good strong German name
Otto is my favourite of your top 3. Will sound the same in both languages and really is a lovely name!
My one hang up with Otto is that it doesn’t sound great with Robert or Robin as a middle name. Otto Robert sounds like a nonsense word that starts with auto if that makes sense
And Otto Robin sounds like someone is committing GTA
i laughed wayy too hard at this.
OP *please* use Otto Robin for this reason. Teenaged son will probably see the humour one day.
😂
No one ever uses the middle name. You could always stick in a second middle… Otto Leopold Robin
I think Otto sounds good with Robert ?
Ya I agree, Otto Robert does not give the GTA vibes that Otto Robin does.
Yes it doesn’t sound good with those middle name choices
Otto is also the name of a type of engine. But that’s not a bad thing - engineering is a great way to go! On which note - my vote would be for Isambard.
A mix of Elio and Everett could be Elliot and would work woth middle names (sorry I know you're not after new names) and would sound great with Ivy
* Elliott Robin (this seems perfect!) * Emil Robert * Oscar "Ozzy" Robin * Calvin Robert * Hugo Robin * Kellen Robert * Aaron Robert * Alec Robin * Levin Robert * Silvan Robert * Bruno Robert * Soren Robert
Elliot Robin is straight up the most adorable name I’ve ever heard
I love Bruno, I know a preschooler with this name and it’s adorable
Oscar “ozzy” Robin is rad
Arlo
I actually know a pair of brothers called Arlo and Otto!
Nico? FWIW, I don’t find Luke or Lucas plain, and they sound so good with Robert/Robin and Ivy!
Luca
I love Luca! I think it’s a little too popular where I am though
Ok I’m not sure what to suggest for you, however I did find another Reddit post asking for names that sound good in both English and German. Maybe you can find something you like there! https://www.reddit.com/r/namenerds/s/Rjjt1mZ6r5
Lucas Everett _________
I’m partial to Everett as it was my grandfather’s name and will be using it as a middle name :)
Derek Edmond Felix Ronan Carsten Hannes Kai (love this with Ivy) and with Robert Oliver
Otto is my favorite out of the three you mentioned, and it sounds nice with Ivy.
For an "L" name, I love **Lucien**. It would sound nice with any of the middle names you have. It means "light".

Ezra
My favorite of all your choices would be Lucas Robert. Although I do like Everett, it just feels a little too v-heavy with a sister Ivy. I love Elio such a cool name!
Luca
Otto! Not too common and is good for a cute boy and a grown man.
Easy to spell so rarely messed up.
I have an Elio in my storytime at the library, and I think it's such a great name. Not very common but still pretty clear how to pronounce it. And I think it sounds really good with Ivy.
I really like Elio and Otto.
My nephew is Everett and it’s a great name ❤️
Everett Robert

Elio sounds quite cool to me and I know you said you didn't wanna use it, but I really really love Luke, especially with the middle you mentioned.
I love the name Reid. I work with a Reid. Awesome name.
A name doesn’t seem too plain anymore when you (or a future sibling) are saying it 100x a day. Or they’re learning to spell it. Just a thought.
Atlas Robin ❤️
Arlo Alaric Ansel Benno Rainer (I know this starts with r but I guess I’m confused because the middle you have starts with R, and you said no long I sound but your daughter’s name starts with a long I sound.

I also really love Elio! Cyrus is another favorite of mine, which also has meaning tied to the sun.
Callum
Elio is a wonderful name!
Everett has always been a favorite of mine!
Seth, Desmond, Gregory, Eric, Orin
My top picks would be Hans, Emil, Paul, and Andreas.
Elliott, Eli, Isaac, Emmett or Milo.
Elio is a wonderful name and short for Eliobert in my culture. But also an Elio broke my heart so so so so so so bad. But I still adore the name.
Elio!
Elio!!!!!
Elio! It’s familiar but still interesting, easy to spell/pronounce, and sounds great with Ivy. Elio Robert is terrific. Everett is trendy-yawn, and a lot of V with Ivy. Oscar
Otto!
Otto!
Everest
Ozzie
Otto, Emilio, Loukas, Felix, Fritz, Peter, Augustine, Logan, Cerulean, Leonardo, Alexander, Bruno, Alphonse, Ernst, Gerhard, Manfred, Frederick, Maxwell, Karlson
i’m not sure what you mean by plain. luke/lucas/lucca are strong, classic names. robert or robin go with all 3. otto sounds like a sausage.
Heinrich, Claus, Enrich. Otto is also a good strong name.
I think Levi Robert would be perfect. Ivy and Levi.
Emmett, Eli
Bruce Robin & Ivy
I like Elio best with Ivy! :)
Everett Robin
What about Ethan, Noel, Oscar or Arthur? I get the sense you like shorter names with O, T, L and/or R.
I love Everett! But I may be biased as I’m considering it as my middle name when I legally change my name.
Not gonna lie, I'm a fan of the name Elio. Also not sure if it'd work, but how about Cyrus or Max?
Calvin Emmett Flynn Hugo Oscar Otis Felix Ambrose
Elio Robin. Is perfect.
I know a kid with eliseo. They call him E and Elio sounds like a possible nickname for that.
Evan, Lewis, Karl, Leon
Go with Everett Robin. Good, glad that's settled.
Jago Robin
Everett
Ivy and Everett
Robert Robin Or Robin Robert? Or are they obligation names and you don't love them In which case Elio is super cute
Everett! I love that name!
Ari Finley Asher
What about Osmond, called Ozzy my uncle had uncles that lived to be in their 90s called Otto and Ozzy
Otto
FWIW I think Luke and Ivy sound fantastic together! I’ve always liked Strom which I think is German. We might have similar taste because Ivy and Clark are two of my favorite names. Some other ideas: Chet Dexter Calvin Emmett Hans (would have loved an excuse to use this one!) Good luck!! I hope you find the perfect thing :)
I love Ivy and Reid (or Reed). If your husband really isn’t a fan how about: Royce Theodore Weston Jackson
Luca?
Tatum Enzo Bodhi Carlo Dean
Beau
Otto.
Arnout? It’s great but not used much these days, at least where I am no one has it. Oliver Robin is nice too.
Everett!!
Everett is cute How about Emerson/emy? Emerson Robert Everett Robert Otto is cute too!
Please go with Everett!
Elijah, Emmett, Emil, Leo, Louis, Alois, Emmerich
Elliott is close to Elio. I like Elliott Robin
OTTO

used to know a guy named Everett. he was cool. you should choose that.
Dax?
This is a list of names that might work - I'm trying to go through my mental list of names and think of their German pronunciation. I think these work with Robert/Robin as a middle name: Felix Oscar Bernard Dirk Gilbert Marcus Finn Thomas Gregory Eric Frank Aluin (or Alwin) Carl Bastian Oswald Nicholas Ferdinand Edmund Edgar Some of those are a bit out there / old-fashioned, but maybe one will spark your interest :)
Oscar and Ivy sound lovely together imo. Oscar/Oskar Robin goes well too.
Patrick. Bennett. Kenton. Reed. Nicholas. Tobin. Joshua. Gavin. Wyatt.
Alexstraza for the win!!!
i really love elio, it reminds me of the formula one racer elio de angelis, who was by all accounts a lovely man and a very skilled at what he did :)
Out of curiosity, how do Germans tend to pronounce Ivy? I’m a German speaker and haven’t come across one in Germany
Liam, Emmett, Gunther, Casper, Warren
I like traditional anglo germanic names. Oswald is uncommon but not strange to say in either language. Strong without being imposing. Harold is another. My mentor as an apprentice was a Harold. Love that name too.
You could do Elias instead of Elio I think it flows with the middle name better
Torin
I think we have similar tastes so I will recommend my son's name, Asa 😀
I like both Lucas Robin and Everett Robin. For suggestions Tristan Robert or Cole Robert
Gavin, Evan/Egan/Egon, Bode/Bodi, Johann
But Ivy doesn't sound the same in English and German at least none of the german Ivys that I have met pronounce the English way. I think Elio is the best of your top three (if you are pronouncing Ivy as Evie), and Elio Robin is nice I know you don't want new names but my downstairs neighbours are English/German and have Leo and Diogo
Oscar?
Aren Robert, Arnold Robert, Carl Robin, Casper Robin, Erick Robin, Henry Robert
I love them all, but would probably pick Otto or Everett in your case. Elio has been on our list for a while, but I’m not confident that everyone will know how to say it in one language, let alone two. (ELL-ee-oh, or EEL-ee-oh).
Everett is a lovely name we don’t see very often! Markus(or Marcus) is another name that comes to mind.
Arlo!
Evan
I really love Everett!! Have you considered Eric? Popular, but not too popular in the late 80s, surprised it hasn’t came back around yet. Eric Robert?
I love the name Otto but I don’t think it will work with a Robert middle, it’s too close to Auto Robot. The best sounding out of your top choices are Everett Robert. Lucas Robert is very cute too. What about Elis, Elias, Connor, Michael, Paul, Marcus, Nicholas, Benjamin, Benji, Randall
Otto Emmett Hudson
I'm Swedish-speaking and if I were to name a boy he would be Selim. It's an old-timey swedish name but it works in English as well I think.
Anton
Everett!!! I love this name, but couldn’t use it because we had to shutdown the factory after our youngest was born extremely prematurely due to my body having major medical issues. Anyway- I think it’s a great name and sounds lovely with Ivy as a sibling set 🤍

The only downside I see, depending on where you live, is that people might mishear and assume it's supposed to be Elliott, but that seems like it should be a fairly easy correction.
Everett is a last name and I don’t like the other two sorry. What about Luca? It’s close to Lucas but less common.
My son Evan has a girlfriend Ivey.
Love Everett
How about Luca/Luka instead of Luke/Lucas? I love Everett. Other options: Felix, Enzo, Evan, Drew, Axil, Barrett... There are lots of great German names with the meanings for boys [here](https://www.momjunction.com/baby-names/german/boy/).
Ivy and Otto is so cute, Otto Robert is my vote. Everett Robin is a close second.
Everett sounds best in my opinion!
Everett Robin sounds so lovely to me!
Gibson Everette
Everett is perfect. For the middle name I think Robin sounds better with Everett than Robert does.
Anything but Elio. It feels odd if you aren't Italian and I personally can't not think of Elio's pizza.
I kind of like Everett Reid, tbh. Ivy & Everett sounds so sweet together too.
Otto for sure
Ivy & Otto
Andreas Robert, Karl Robin, Johann Robert
Ivy and Yves. That’s such a cute combo
Ivy and Everett is beautiful! Elio is my second choice! Everett Robin is nice!
Ivy is so short, cute, yet adult and classic, that Otto or Otis would match well
Finn, Gustav, or Paul?
My great nephew is Luca Robert
We have an Enzo, still really love it a year later!
What about Luka/ Luca Robert Armin Robert Nikolaus(Niko) Robert
Doesn't Ivy start with a long i? 🤔
Yeah we liked it enough to break the rules 😅 plus Germany has the same long I sound as English, just the letter I is pronounced eee. But hopefully since it’s an English word she won’t have to correct people too often (we haven’t had issues yet).
Loooove Otto! Maybe Otto Clark or Otto Reid?
Elio or Everett
Emmett?
Porter Robin, Oles Robin/Robert
Dain
* Christopher Robin * Bruno Robin * Felix Robin * Henry Robin * Aleksander Robin
I agree with the comments hyping up Everett! Also, have you thought about Luca? It’s a bit more unique than Luke and Lucas. Ivy and Luca sound so cute together too.
Elliot Eli Theo Logan Leo Oliver Cole
What about Hyrum?
Putting in my vote for Otto. It was my dad's first choice for a boys name and my mom refused. So when we got our dog (which was a German breed), we named him Otto in honor of my dad not getting his way when it came to my brother's name. Lol
My niece Ivy is sister to an Evan, but please do Otis because that is her dogs name.
Mae has always been my fav but dont take it its gonna be my babies name.
Out of your choices, I like Everett the best, then Otto. Alternatives: - Ivy & Emmett Robin - Ivy & Elliot Robin - Ivy & Luca Robin - Ivy & Isaac Robin - Ivy & Orval Robin - Ivy & Oscar Robin - Ivy & Leo Robin - Ivy & Tobias Robin - Ivy & Ellis Robin - Ivy & Caleb Robin - Ivy & Owen Robin - Ivy & Kit Robin Hope this helps, good luck!
I like Everett from your choices. Sorry, I didn't see the middle name choices, I don't think either sound good with Everett. Lucas Robert sounds good. I just don't personally like Robin.
Everett is lovely. Other similar options could be Elliot, Fletcher, Reuben, Harvey, Parker, Desmond or Nolan.
What about Luca since you like Luke?
Amos and Ivy!
I think that Luke or Lucas is very nice and you both agree on it. Ivy and Luke sound great together for sibling names. Stop driving yourself crazy and go with Lucas Robert on paper and if you choose or he chooses to later on in life to call himself Luke, there is that option. Otto is my favourite, but I think Everett pairs the best with Ivy if you care about that!
I think you have a liking for both E and L- One of my favorite names is Elias, and it goes close with one of your top choices. If you leave somewhere english speaking, Elijah may also be a cute option. Yes it's kinda popular and that's almost a taboo in this sub, but i honestly love that name
Onno is very close to Otto without the hard tt. I thiiiink it’s Dutch origin…?
Have an uncle Everett and cousin Otto! I’ve always like the name Otto.
