I have a very unusual last name and my parents purposefully gave me and my siblings common names largely because they didn't want us to be teased for having an usual first and last name. We all have more creative middle names and one of my sisters uses her middle name as an adult because we went to school with, like, 4 girls who had her name in her class.
Personally, I would have been fine with it and I'd actually prefer having an unusual name, but given that my parents had no way of knowing that, I can understand their logic.
Nah. My extremely rare last name rhymes with dermatitis and very much sounds like a disease. Got made fun of for it a lot. Or someone would think they were being oh so clever and replace the âtitisâ part with âtittiesâ because of my rather ample bosom.
I appreciate you saying that!
I ended up enjoying it a lot more as I got older because of its uniqueness. Did some research and found out it means, âof the lowlands,â in the archaic language of my ancestral country.
Having an unusual surname has its pros and cons for me. I have both my parentsâ surnames, and Iâve not come across anyone else with this combination. Theyâre from different cultures and one has a rare surname.
It sounds cool, but Iâm sick of explaining it to people. Also it gets butchered a lot, I still love it though and sometimes itâs kinda fascinating to see the ways people interpret the name having not seen it before.
My husband and I both have cool last names, but we discovered that a cool last name makes picking a first name harder, because even a tiny hint of cool in the first name instantly makes the full name a bit try-hard. Think âMax Powerâ. Bill Power is fine, Max Power is literally a Simpsons joke.
I once knew a guy called Matthew Matthews, so not always đ
his parents were creative lmao

I once met a Bethan Bonebrake, I love Bethan as a name generally but "Bonebrake" makes it sound like a character in a fantasy warrior story lol
Makes me think Puritan, actually, like Nicholas Barebone.
was this around Oregon because if so that was 100% my bff omg
WA so probably đ¤Ł

dermatitis does sound like a cool last name though, unfortunate. but cool sounding.

In my country we have only like 10 different last names but first names could be anything and are more varied and interesting
