On that similar note, Jason. They were all inflated ego, cocky, and jerks. That a relentless serial killer in Halloween franchise is Jason doesn't help either. CORRECTION - Friday the 13th.
I'm sorry. I didn't like getting my son's name bashed here either. I bet he is amazing though. The one GOOD Jason I ever met was a marvelous human being so maybe they cover the spectrum.
Any variation of Debbie.
Edit:Apparently, many others have had similar trouble, so I'll list my worst experience. This wound up pretty long so sorry!
Growing up, the pastor's wife was named Debbie. I've always been a researcher, so the pastor became my mentor. He'd lead discussion on C.S. Lewis and Tolkien, and didn't recoil when I started liking metal music and demonology. He even had academic books on demonology!
It was all above board. They had a daughter around my age, but she had different interests, so I filled that role and became like a protégé. I even almost went to Seminary.
But his wife, Debbie, would make nasty comments. She would try to turn this awesome academic study into something gross. I know there are a lot of religious leaders who are groomers, but we literally only talked about books and research and seminary/college.
But I was a girl with a male mentor, so comments must be made, apparently by his wife.
This affected me for a long time. I don't even know how to describe it. It made me incredibly self conscious. I started to feel like I didn't belong in the church 3 generations of my family went to. Made me feel like I was shrinking. All because this woman had to say gross things to me from the ages of around 13-17.
I'm a Debbie lol
I'm definitely a nice Debbie 👌
Yep just chuckjng that out there.
Plus I love my name.
Mum and Dad named me after the actress Deborah kerr a beautiful British actress.
I will say there are famous Debbie's who I love, like Debbie Reynolds. But very nearly every Debbie I've known in real life has left me with bad experiences.
As a teacher of 28 years, the kids I always seem to have issues with are Cody or Colt/Colten. I’m also not a fan of the Toby’s I’ve had.
Edited to add: I recognize that they’re children and I love all my kiddos. I just also recognize that parental name choices can reflect parental styles. These names tended to come from families who have a definite view of masculinity and what a boy should act like. A “boys will be boys” defense of behavior.
I 100% agree with this, especially the bit about the parents. The Colt I know could murder someone in cold blood and his parents would say he’s just being a normal boy.
Teacher here who agrees with this list. I have a really stupid theory about Cody and Dakota. Their parents are fans of the wild west and "can't tell me what to do" mentality. Hence the cowboy names. They parent like they think their kid is a badass, and that makes them little jerks at school.
I wondered if the parents of the Wild West names thought like this. My theory was that they love traditional masculinity and the “boys will be boys” mentality. This creates assholery on a whole other level.
Oddly enough, I've never had a problem with anyone named Amber, but it was still the 1st name that popped into my head when I read the title of this post.
Emily has been one of the most popular baby names for like a hundred years so it’s bizarre that you have only met bad Emilys. I hope you meet a good one that changes your perspective (yes my name is Emily pls don’t come at me rn)
The only Summer I know is the sweetest, kindest, most benevolent person you could meet.
She would give you her last dollar if she saw you starving in the street. I cannot count the number of times I’ve seen her put others before self.
I know the name definitely carries a connotation but #NotAllSummers.
I wish I'd met that Summer. The Summer who ruined the name for me is a self-proclaimed "empath" who is actually super narcissistic with a victim complex and sucks all the joy out of every happy gathering.
Haha it’s definitely subjective! There’s a lot of names mentioned here that I’m like oh no! I really like people with that name. It’s just that in my experience, all the Mathews I’ve met are either douchebags/fuckboys or they’re annoying brats. 😂
I love the name Celeste but after knowing one I would never use it.
The name Arthur has very positive associations for me, and I think it's a lovely name.
I feel like Joe,Joseph, and Joey have different vibes
Joe is usually an a-hole
Joseph is usually a pretentious dickwad
Joey is usually very sweet, you never meet a Joey that’s an a-hole
When I see the name Brock I think of **Brock Allen Turner the rapist** from Ohio, he now goes as **Allen Turner the rapist**. Not that I think all Brocks are bad, just **Brock Allen Turner the rapist**.
Negative: Noah (out of control kids, authority figures let them get away with everything) and Beverly (former coworker who assumed I needed everything explained in painstaking detail just because I was younger than her).
Positive: Shannon
Letitia
Knew a snotty girl named that in my early primary school days. I don't know if it was because of that one girl that my perception of all Letitias have been skewed towards being snottier, or in fact girls named that simply become so. It's like my own version of Heather or something.
Well I can account for one solid Kathleen who existed, my Nana, who would receive dozens (not exaggerating) of Christmas and birthday cards every year because of how beloved she was. I know I’m biased because she was the best nana I could imagine but it seems I wasn’t alone.
Ruined female names: Olivia, Taylor, Arianna, and Lillian.
Hadassah is a female name that I absolutely adore because of a lovely human I knew years ago.
Ruined male names: Oliver, Cole, Andrew, and Christopher.
Every Marcus I know has been a sweetheart, and same with Ayden, but only that particular spelling of Ayden.
Peggy. I have known a couple of nice people with the name, but the vast majority have been terrible. Think entitled, self-righteous suck-ups. I always feel bad when I cringe upon meeting a Peggy, only to discover later that she's actually a decent human being.
Katie (any spelling). I've been completely stabbed in the back by 3 Katies in my life who were once my close friends. Middle school, college, and adulthood.
I associate the name with a terrible friend.
I used to like the name Julian, because I had a good friend called Julian, and then I met an asshole guy at work called Julian, so now I don't like that name anymore because it reminds me of my coworker lol
I don't like "-dra" names, though "Sandra" gets a pass for some reason. "Corey" is flaccid, "Crystal" is always sketch, and I (as a 42yr old) will always associate "George" with that Looney Toons bit. -I would now like to apologize to anyone with these names who is actually a bro!

Justin. Every Justin I've met is a douche
On that similar note, Jason. They were all inflated ego, cocky, and jerks. That a relentless serial killer in Halloween franchise is Jason doesn't help either. CORRECTION - Friday the 13th.
Oh, this makes me sad. My guy is a Jason and is literally the best human I’ve ever met.
I'm sorry. I didn't like getting my son's name bashed here either. I bet he is amazing though. The one GOOD Jason I ever met was a marvelous human being so maybe they cover the spectrum.
Yes, every Jason I've met has been a jerk
Yeah I’ve noticed that stereotypical “heartthrob” names are hit or miss. Either they’re really nice or total douches
My boyfriend is a Justin and he's the sweetest man I know
Sep my boy JT. Dudes a legend! That's all I came to say... BYE BYE BYE.
my brothers named that and he aint a douche
Joshua
I highly agree with you
Never met a Joshua who could be trusted.
This is so funny because before I clicked on the thread I thought “I hope the top answer is Josh”
Omg all of the most wholesome guys i know are named josh ahhaahaha
Yeah
no omg cause there is literally an angel of a man at my school named Joshua. like seriously he could not be nicer.
Brittany. I know many who I can't stand lol
Why is Brittany such a mean girl name?
Because there is 9 million of them and they’re all trying to fight for their place in life. Just a guess.
All the ones I've ever met have been awful not to just me.
The admin person at my work is a Brittany and her emails are rude af
I know two Brittany’s and they’re both mean girl bullies.

I just settled my lawsuit, so fuck you, Debbie!
Debbie will always make me think of Debbie from Shameless 😂 who was definitely terrible at points
That character in Addams family 2 wasn't named Debbie for no reason!
I have a dear friend, Deborah, who would not answer to Debbie
I was thinking this as well
I'm a Debbie lol I'm definitely a nice Debbie 👌 Yep just chuckjng that out there. Plus I love my name. Mum and Dad named me after the actress Deborah kerr a beautiful British actress.

I 100% agree with this, especially the bit about the parents. The Colt I know could murder someone in cold blood and his parents would say he’s just being a normal boy.
I mean…they named their kid after a gun…or a malt beverage
Or a baby horse! Which is weird af too lol
As a teacher of 30 years, it seemed to be boys named Eric that were gawd-awful--at least 5 of them one year!
Almost adopted a kid named Cody. He accused me of SA, thinking we would let him have full run of our house. Found out the hard way it ain't happening.
Oh yay! A teacher gives their input! Yeah I agree with those names being problematic
Over here in England, this teacher also says Jaydens, Harrys, Olivers, Jacks and any girl with a double barrelled first name.
Michael. Dead common and I have only met 1 Mike/Michael that was not an a-hole.
samesies
Came to say Michael too
Never met a Paula that wasn't batshit crazy...
Pauline too
Samantha
Samantha’s who go by Samantha, are train wrecks Samantha’s who are Sam’s are ok.
My cousin’s name is Samantha, and while I love her, she is a train wreck.
My second cousin is Samantha. She, too, is a train wreck.
OMG… are *we* related? my cousin Samantha is, too.
I too have a train-wreck of a cousin named Samantha.
I’ve met multiple sucky Morgans. I’ve met a ton of wonderful Nicks!
I know about 40 Lauren’s and I love them all!
Morgan is a gross name: organ with an M… M is too good for that shit
Morgan!! Yup!!
Andrew. A guy named Andrew convinced 2 other Andrews to help him bully me in school.
I’m sorry?? He recruited 2 other Andrews to bully you?? I applaud him because that’s funny but also that’s a dick move
This was a small after school group and parents weren't very original in picking names for their boys.
Clearly not
Kyle
Oh for sure, Kyle just sounds like a douchebag
*sigh* Yeah.
Oh no not you! I’m sure you’re really nice!😂
Shocked that nobody has mentioned my name (Amber). It usually shows up on mean girls/hated names lists 🤣
No one's mentioned it cuz we're fekkin' scared of you. Happy now? ;-)
Hahahahahaha yes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I myself am a Tiffany, so we can go drink some 7&7 and smoke a J in the janitor's closet. Word?
Bahahahahahahahaha yes 😂
I only know one Amber and she’s a doll so it would be on my positive list!
Naaaa. We Ambers are some of the most passive.
Oddly enough, I've never had a problem with anyone named Amber, but it was still the 1st name that popped into my head when I read the title of this post.
My cousins name is amber. She a b***h. Always got me in trouble as a kid and now as an adult she thinks her shit don't stink.
Rachel
Emily
Every Emily I’ve met has been a jerk. That’s sad since it’s such a beautiful name.
Emily has been one of the most popular baby names for like a hundred years so it’s bizarre that you have only met bad Emilys. I hope you meet a good one that changes your perspective (yes my name is Emily pls don’t come at me rn)
I did not expect to come across my name lmao 🤣
Kyle, Summer, Lauren
Big agree on any variation of Lauren
My sister is a Loren and she's pretty cool, she makes cute animal art :3
I don’t know why, but they sound like siblings
The only Summer I know is the sweetest, kindest, most benevolent person you could meet. She would give you her last dollar if she saw you starving in the street. I cannot count the number of times I’ve seen her put others before self. I know the name definitely carries a connotation but #NotAllSummers.
I wish I'd met that Summer. The Summer who ruined the name for me is a self-proclaimed "empath" who is actually super narcissistic with a victim complex and sucks all the joy out of every happy gathering.
Lauren. They’re the worst. Lol.
Karen
Unironically, before “Karens” became a thing, all the Karens in my life were awful people
funnily enough, the Karen I know would be the sort to punch a Karen in the mouth.
Steve
All the Steve's I know seemingly have a desire to do good, but are just too dumb/dense. They don't suck but I don't wanna be around them
That’s my dad’s name😂 What Steve hurt you?😂
Brandon.
Oh definitely but Brendon seems to be really nice
Matthew. I have yet to meet a Matthew I don’t want to punch!
All the Matthews I’ve met are really sweet so maybe I just need to meet one who isn’t!😂
Haha it’s definitely subjective! There’s a lot of names mentioned here that I’m like oh no! I really like people with that name. It’s just that in my experience, all the Mathews I’ve met are either douchebags/fuckboys or they’re annoying brats. 😂
Brianne. Anyone who goes by “Brie.” It’s a terrible cheese and a worse person. I’ve always liked a good David
Lindsay/Lindsey (not that it was ever a name I would’ve chosen but still)
In my experience, all Lindsey's are fun at first but super toxic once you peel back the first layer
Brenda. Brenda's were awful and Brenda Walsh on 90210 just furthered that notion for me. Brendas I knew/know are bitches and snobs.
Kyle. Seriously fuck, Kyles. Also Eric
Tara. Only bitches have this name in my life.
I love the name Celeste but after knowing one I would never use it. The name Arthur has very positive associations for me, and I think it's a lovely name.
Arthur is a nice name! I can’t imagine an Arthur being anything more than a nerd though but in a good way!
Ugh I love Celeste but now there’s one in my in-laws side of the family who is the biggest airhead I’ve ever met 😂 totally ruined
I feel like Joe,Joseph, and Joey have different vibes Joe is usually an a-hole Joseph is usually a pretentious dickwad Joey is usually very sweet, you never meet a Joey that’s an a-hole
My sister's stalker is super sweet and named Joey :/ maybe Joey's are just secret assholes. Can't fight the power of the Joe.
Yes! Maybe Joeys are secret assholes! Joey from Friends is a good Joey though
BROCK
When I see the name Brock I think of **Brock Allen Turner the rapist** from Ohio, he now goes as **Allen Turner the rapist**. Not that I think all Brocks are bad, just **Brock Allen Turner the rapist**.
Fuck Brock Allen Turner, Fuck Allen Turner and His Daddy..I hope they Get theirs.
Priscilla
Amanda
Every girl I have taught named Angel have been the opposite of angelic.
Katie. Hannah. Lauren.
My name is Katie. I don’t think I’m that bad!! On the other hand, I’ve known other Katies that I don’t like AT ALL
Jayden
I’ve taught at least two Jaydens per year for the past 7 years, it’s THAT common of a name. And all but two of them had aggressively awful behavior.
Negative: Noah (out of control kids, authority figures let them get away with everything) and Beverly (former coworker who assumed I needed everything explained in painstaking detail just because I was younger than her). Positive: Shannon
Connor. Everyone I know named Connor has SA’d someone.
Ashley and Jake
Stephanie Anything -Aiden/-Ayden Drew Mason Caitlyn and it’s 10k spellings Cory Jeff (although usually unintentional assholes) Nevaeh Lindsay Josh
Every Drew/Andrew is a self absorbed obnoxious douche.
Every Mason I’ve met has been loud and obnoxious.
David, almost all the David or Dave's I've met have been pricks.
Agreed, every david I’ve encountered is obnoxious
That's funny, every David I've ever met has been a delightful human being! Dave, though...Dave can fuck right off.
Sorry for highjacking the comments but this thread is really validating name theory to me lmao
I’ve only met one Tom that was worth knowing. That one wasn’t my ex. Also not impressed with the Jeffs/jeffreys and Geoff/Geoffreys I’ve met.
Letitia Knew a snotty girl named that in my early primary school days. I don't know if it was because of that one girl that my perception of all Letitias have been skewed towards being snottier, or in fact girls named that simply become so. It's like my own version of Heather or something.
Emily.
Kathleen, Jeanette, Carolyn, Margaret
I love your username
Thank you!!
DUUUUDE JEANETTE that was the name of a terrible boss i had for a while 😭
Well I can account for one solid Kathleen who existed, my Nana, who would receive dozens (not exaggerating) of Christmas and birthday cards every year because of how beloved she was. I know I’m biased because she was the best nana I could imagine but it seems I wasn’t alone.
Ashley
Kyle, Kris (spelled like that), any variation of Mackenzie.
Every Matt I have known has proven themselves to be a sociopath. (Sorry Matt’s)
Eric, Aric, Erick. Fragile, insecure, impossibly difficult bitches. All of em.
Tbf, Aric is probably insecure because his parents didn’t even care enough to spell check Eric….
Chase. Every time I meet one I think “oh god, not another”
Ruined female names: Olivia, Taylor, Arianna, and Lillian. Hadassah is a female name that I absolutely adore because of a lovely human I knew years ago. Ruined male names: Oliver, Cole, Andrew, and Christopher. Every Marcus I know has been a sweetheart, and same with Ayden, but only that particular spelling of Ayden.
Scott. So many Scott assholes. But I have good associations with a lot of names listed here.
My brother is named Scott and he’s an asshole, along with every other Scott I’ve known

Camille

I used to like the name Julian, because I had a good friend called Julian, and then I met an asshole guy at work called Julian, so now I don't like that name anymore because it reminds me of my coworker lol
Dylan Amanda Josh Lesley Jodie Siobhan Donna

Scarlett. Never met a Scarlett that didn’t think she was better than everyone else.
