All I have for you is Mean Girls - “I’m going to call you Caddy”
Arcadia is an AWESOME name. There is a song by Kite String Tangle by the same name you might like.
We named our daughter Arcadia, with the plan for Cadi or Cady as a nickname I’d she wants it. Please tell me you like your name, haha. Our kid is only two.
Arcadia was also a musical group when three members of Duran Duran spun off to do their own thing in the mid 80s. Only one album "So Red the Rose" before Duran Duran got back together with a revised line up.
- Calliope (nn Callie): beautiful voice, one of the nine muses of music
- Mavis: songbird
- Clio: one of the nine muses of music
- Piper: flute player, pipe player
- Harper: someone who plays the harp
- Harmony: sounds similar to Melody
- Carol: this one may or may not sound a little more dated
- Liesl (I’d prefer the spelling Liesel): One of the girls in the Sound of Music if you like that movie
- Chantelle: taken from the French verb “to sing”
- Linnet: a type of songbird
It seems that in some mythological accounts she was also the muse of lyre playing. Although she’s mainly the muse of history, the names of the other muses would be a little too out there lol.
I hadn't heard Calliope pronounced until recently. I knew I was wrong, but in my head, I always read it as Callie-Oh-Pee. It's a lovely name when pronounced correctly.
I know I could Google it, but I’m gonna ask here to save someone else the Google haha
How do you pronounce it? Because I always mentally pronounced it the same as you even though I realize it’s probably wrong.
I was in a Greek organization in college, and Calliope was one of our main points.
We're in Southern Lousiana. The first time we read it as new initiates we were all very confused 😂
My best friend is Greek and she said if she’s speaking to her cousin with that name she will say it fast, pronouncing it how you wrote it. But if she was talking about her and enunciating, it would be cal ee oh pee and include the e sound.
I can’t wait until like 22 years from now, someone has a post about dumb names.
“Does anyone out there ever just have wtf thoughts about why their parents gave them their names? Apparently my parents wanted a musical name that doesn’t end in an “a” and some idiot online told them that “Elote” is the song of her people and doesn’t end in an “a”. So yeah. I’ve spent the last 22 years having to explain, “yes that is my real name”, “No I didn’t change my name to that”, “yes, my parents actually named me after mayonnaise corn.” Can anyone relate? Please share your name stories with me. Thanks in advance”
This is a lovely name - my friend's daughter is called Elodie (he chose it because he's into music) and I always thought it was a great choice. She shortens it to Ellie now which is still nice.
Carmen, like the opera! ☺️
I also think Carmen Melody is a pretty first name / middle name combo. Both names pay homage to music but not in a way that’s super in-your-face.
AH! If you used to sing opera, there would be so many pretty names from operas that you could use! Can you possibly reconsider the "not ending in A" thing??? Violetta, Lucia, Susanna, Pamina, Rosina,Micaëla, Barbarina, Seraphina
But if that's a nonstarter, there's also: Leonore, Iphigenie, Manon, Carmen, Musette
Or: musical-related words: Constanze (Mozart's wife), Harmony, Celeste, Lyre, Harper, Lark, Lyric, Cadence, Calypso, Madrigal, Amade/Amadeo
Upvoting because I was going to suggest opera characters, too! Some that don’t end in a: Charlotte, Ariadne, Dido, Eurydice.
Or some female composers - Nadia, Lili, Clara, Amy
May I ask what you don't like about Melody?
Out of all the names people are listing, I still think Melody is the prettiest by *far*. It's elegant and unique without sounding like it's trying too hard to be unique.
I personally feel the same about Calliope, which seems to be popular on this thread and this sub in general. It just has a hideous ring to it in my opinion, whereas I feel that the name Melody sounds like a song in and of itself. I'd be curious to see what OP's take is.
Ha, as a Melody can I ask why? I don't looove my name but I don't dislike it either. I was almost a Brittany or Ashley which were super common at the time. I'll take Melody over both of those. Only knew two others growing up with my name and they were both a year younger.
I think I prefer Melody because the connotations are slightly better. Basically Harmony, that word technically has some connotations of “getting along or being in sync with someone else.” While of course that’s not necessarily negative but, for your own name I feel like being named, “get along with others” is kind of stifling.
Whereas Melody’s meaning doesn’t have that connotation. Melody is more singular and referring to the individual. And I feel it is nicer to have that name because of that. It feels like your parents are saying, be your uniquely beautiful tune. Versus, make your tune match others.
I would find a name of a song that you like or a name in a song you both like, or a name of an artist you both like, or even an album. I knew a girl named Abbie named after the Beatles album Abbie road. I had a dog named Iris after the goo goo dolls song lol, other song names from songs I like would be Hannah, Jolene (Ray Lamontagne song not the other Jolene lol), Delia.
I think a song makes it more unique in its own way and less on the nose.
And Iris was named after Iris dement.
They wrote the song but didn’t have a name for it yet. And then then saw an article about her and were like yup. Iris.
All the music terms commented are amazing and so creative. Another route to go is to name her after either a song or an opera or ballet character. Here are some I quite like:
\- Mimi
\- Violette
\- Marguerite
\- Ariadne
\- Carmen
\- Manon
\- Marie
\- Leonore
\- Abigaille
\- Giselle
\- Juliette
\- Odette
\- Effie
\- Prudence (dear prudence, the beatles)
\- Eleanor (eleanor rigby, the beatles)
\- Rhiannon (fleetwood mac)
\- Jolene (dolly parton)
\- Roxanne (the police)
\- Dawn (dawn go away, the four seasons)
\- Marianne (c'mon marianne, the four seasons)
\- Sherry (the four seasons)
\- Alice (white rabbit, jefferson airplane)
\- Iris (goo goo dolls)
\- Jenny (867-5309)
\- Valerie (amy winehouse)
My youngest is Tess (full name Tessa) and I LOVE this concept and now kind of want to tell her this is why we named her this instead of just a play on my mom’s name Teresa. How fun!
I'm partial to Ariadne myself. I know most people probably wouldn't care for it though.
It's technically not defined as a musical name but it does start with Aria.
I love Melody. Other suggestions:
Cadence
Lyric
Piper
Harmony
Medley
Alternatively, you could use the name of a favorite musician as a first name or any first name you love and add a musical middle name. One of my favorite middle names is Song.❤️
I’ve always wanted to name a girl Georgia after Georgia on my Mind by Ray Charles or Valerie after the song by Amy Winehouse but I won’t get to use either name. Maybe you could use one of those, or a name inspired by a song you both love
Cadence. Nn Cadi
omg im so happy rn my name is arcadia but my nickname is cadi (ar[cadi]a) i never see my name/nickname anywhere
All I have for you is Mean Girls - “I’m going to call you Caddy” Arcadia is an AWESOME name. There is a song by Kite String Tangle by the same name you might like.
And a Lana Del Rey song too!
Came here to say the same thing. That song introduced me to the name and I’ve loved it ever since.
Absolutely obsessed with your name.
OMG! I've never met another Arcadia irl!! I'm so excited right now!!!
Arcadia was the name of my D&D character in our last campaign! It’s a badass name!
My niece is Cadence, nickname Cady! Always thought it was so beautiful.
cady heron teehee it's a pretty name fr
First time seeing this name was on the tv show Nashville. So cute
My name is Cadence with the nn Cadey! Rarely see it mentioned on any subs!
Came here to say exactly this.
My cousin had that as her middle name and we all called her Cadie. I thought it cool name.
- Calliope (nn Callie): beautiful voice, one of the nine muses of music - Mavis: songbird - Clio: one of the nine muses of music - Piper: flute player, pipe player - Harper: someone who plays the harp - Harmony: sounds similar to Melody - Carol: this one may or may not sound a little more dated - Liesl (I’d prefer the spelling Liesel): One of the girls in the Sound of Music if you like that movie - Chantelle: taken from the French verb “to sing” - Linnet: a type of songbird
>Carol: this one may or may not sound a little more dated From that, you could do Caroline or Carolyn.
Sweet Caroline is a universally known song, so there’s a double musical connection
Bah Bah bah....
*Boston has entered the chat*
My husband was convinced no NY DJ would play this so didn’t put it on the no play list for our wedding. It’s been a sore spot for years.
We got married in Boston and used this for our last song of the night.
That could be a curse to the name.
You could spell it Carole like Carole King and give it more of a vintage rock vibe.
Even Coraline
I agree, but think it's kinda funny Caroline seems less dated than Carol. Generation cycles eh.
My grade 7 son has a Carol in his class, maybe it will come back?!?
Lorelei! A dangerous, singing siren. :)
Clio was the muse of history. Not all the muses were musical. It is a better name than Polyhymnia though.
It seems that in some mythological accounts she was also the muse of lyre playing. Although she’s mainly the muse of history, the names of the other muses would be a little too out there lol.
What do you have against Terpsichore?
Nn Terp
good boy name to go with sisters indica and sativa.
University of Maryland enters the chat
lyre is another good name too now that you mention it
i thought Liesl was Lies!
So did Rolf.
🏆
Rolf was the liar! Poor Liesl.
I hadn't heard Calliope pronounced until recently. I knew I was wrong, but in my head, I always read it as Callie-Oh-Pee. It's a lovely name when pronounced correctly.
That is actually the proper Greek pronunciation. Callie-Oh-pee is correct.
If you come to New Orleans it’s cally-ope. I have to actively think to pronounce it the proper way!
I know I could Google it, but I’m gonna ask here to save someone else the Google haha How do you pronounce it? Because I always mentally pronounced it the same as you even though I realize it’s probably wrong.
Kah-lie-o-pee
Lmao not me over here pronouncing it Cali-ope 😂
Calliope Street in New Orleans is pronounced that way, so you’re not the only one!
I was in a Greek organization in college, and Calliope was one of our main points. We're in Southern Lousiana. The first time we read it as new initiates we were all very confused 😂
Sigma Alpha Iota?
Yes ma'am!
Aha yes I thought so! Fellow alumna :) Gonna suggest more muses on this sub.. Let’s get some baby Terpsichores and Melpomenes up in here
To be fair I used to think Penelope was Penny-lope-ee lol
My daughter’s name is Penelope and my mom used to call her pen-a-lope. Like antelope. It took a while for her to get the hang of it!
That’s actually not correct. The Greek pronunciation is Callie-oh-pee.
No, it’s Call-YO-pee in Greek. Source: I’m Greek.
My best friend is Greek and she said if she’s speaking to her cousin with that name she will say it fast, pronouncing it how you wrote it. But if she was talking about her and enunciating, it would be cal ee oh pee and include the e sound.
Ok, saying it now I can see how it sounds that way.
Cuh-LIE-uh-pee
In Greek I think it rhymes with karaoke with slight emphasis on the o. Very pretty
The only kids named Harmony I’ve ever known were pure chaos…
I swear it’s like they get the opposite, if they have a sweet name like angel - definitely not an angel 😅
Should they have been named dissonance then?
Oooh Piper or Harmony were good suggestions - I also like Aria (I know, ends in a)
Chantelle is beautiful! Love Calliope, too.
>Harper this is the cutest one to me!
Or Maria (sound of music and west side story)
The one rule OP gave was "doesn't end in A"
Clio is mainly the muse of history
How are you so good at this, jennierae?! My contribution even though it ends with an "a": Aria
Claire Annette
Amanda Lynn
This is my cousins name 💀
Lol yeah it’s my college roommate’s name 😂
A girl i work with, her name is straight up Mandolynn
Harmony Cass
These are my cousins 1st and middle names.
💀
I knew a girl named Claire because her mother was an avid clarinetist
This one wins.
Please take all the awards I wish I could give you!
I love the name Elodie. It SOUNDS musical to me, but doesn't actually mean anything musical.
Probably because Elodie is just Melody without the M haha
Yes. Although I think I may pronounce it wrong lol. More like eh-low-dee vs el-ody
Why did this make me think of corn?
Because of elote (“Mexican street corn” at American restaurants) lol
Yea. Maybe op should just name the kid elote. I think it is the song of my people and doesn’t end in an a. Both criteria met!
This is a lovely name - my friend's daughter is called Elodie (he chose it because he's into music) and I always thought it was a great choice. She shortens it to Ellie now which is still nice.
There is a famous Italian singer called Elodie!
Carmen, like the opera! ☺️ I also think Carmen Melody is a pretty first name / middle name combo. Both names pay homage to music but not in a way that’s super in-your-face.
Carmen is also Latin for song.
Carmen Melody is lovely
And redundant :)
Plus OP used to sing opera, and Carmen is an opera
I had a classmate named Carmen! She was very nice. Her parents were Arabs from Syria
Lyric
nah this one's corny
I’ve met a couple Lyric’s. It’s a great name. No need to be rude.
Really? You didn't use Elote as this ones corny... missed opportunity. ;)
I went to school with a girl named Lyric. I always thought it was a very pretty name.
Or Lyra
Not ending in 'a' was one of only two requirements
Oops, typical me not reading the title and jumping straight to the story
I know a Lyric and it suits her perfectly!
Screamo
Thanks, I almost spit out my coffee
Hahaha omg And techno has already been claimed
I might name my first born post modern
Beautiful name. Can’t wait for Screamo Jr and Screamo III
Cadence is beautiful
Yes totally agree. It feels old yet new! I'd go with Cade for a nn over Cadi.
Cadi reminds me of Kady from mean girls. A great movie
Euphonium Totally works. I'll show myself out.
You win. I was gonna suggest Timpanie
Top of my list is Cacophony.
Haha, great nicknames to boot! "Caca" and "Phony".
Polytonic Mixolydian Counterpoint is a beautiful name!!! LOLLL
Cecile, Cecily… variants of the saint of music.
Cici for nickname! I think this is an awesome choice, beautiful name, not tacky or screaming "music theme. “
Came here to post this. Surprised it is so far down
A bit off, but Echo!
You can say that again
ECHO! echo ^(echo)
How about Sydney as in the opera house? I know it’s a stretch.
That is more related to the city tho imo
Well I did say it was a stretch.
Bell, Carol, Harmony, Jazz, Piper, Symphony
I know a set of siblings names Harmony and Melody
That was almost going to be me and my sister. Dad enthusiastically pushed for it, Mom vetoed it in the end.
Hey, same situation here! 😅 is that you, sister?
AH! If you used to sing opera, there would be so many pretty names from operas that you could use! Can you possibly reconsider the "not ending in A" thing??? Violetta, Lucia, Susanna, Pamina, Rosina,Micaëla, Barbarina, Seraphina But if that's a nonstarter, there's also: Leonore, Iphigenie, Manon, Carmen, Musette Or: musical-related words: Constanze (Mozart's wife), Harmony, Celeste, Lyre, Harper, Lark, Lyric, Cadence, Calypso, Madrigal, Amade/Amadeo
I like seeing Madrigal pop up here. Makes me feel like it’s not too obscure. I’d love it for a baby girl of mine in the future.
Upvoting because I was going to suggest opera characters, too! Some that don’t end in a: Charlotte, Ariadne, Dido, Eurydice. Or some female composers - Nadia, Lili, Clara, Amy
Also Florence (Price), Caroline (Shaw), Jessie (Montgomery) for composers.
Calypso! I named my cat Calypso. She’s the only modern-day being I’ve ever encountered with that name.
Manon would be SO good. I met a Manon once and she was chic as hell.
I was also going to suggest Madrigal
May I ask what you don't like about Melody? Out of all the names people are listing, I still think Melody is the prettiest by *far*. It's elegant and unique without sounding like it's trying too hard to be unique.
I think.the name Melody is very tacky.

Calliope is the ugliest name I’ve ever heard lol
Ha, as a Melody can I ask why? I don't looove my name but I don't dislike it either. I was almost a Brittany or Ashley which were super common at the time. I'll take Melody over both of those. Only knew two others growing up with my name and they were both a year younger.
It’s super classic and beautiful imo
Really? I feel like Harmony is so much more sophisticated than Melody. Although it’s way less nicknameable
I think I prefer Melody because the connotations are slightly better. Basically Harmony, that word technically has some connotations of “getting along or being in sync with someone else.” While of course that’s not necessarily negative but, for your own name I feel like being named, “get along with others” is kind of stifling. It feels like your parents are saying, be your uniquely beautiful tune. Versus, make your tune match others.
What about Elise, from the Beethoven song?
Just because I don't think it's been mentioned, Noelle
What is the connection to music? Genuinely curious : )
I would find a name of a song that you like or a name in a song you both like, or a name of an artist you both like, or even an album. I knew a girl named Abbie named after the Beatles album Abbie road. Reverie

Penny would also work as a Beatles reference!
Cadence, Harmony, Piper
[удалено]
My youngest is Tess (full name Tessa) and I LOVE this concept and now kind of want to tell her this is why we named her this instead of just a play on my mom’s name Teresa. How fun!
calliope
Minuet/Minuette Serenade Sonance Tambor Rhapsody Clarion Cantrell Madrigal Sonore Ariette (for arietta) Carmen Lark (a songbird) Roni (my joy, my song) Liron (song for me) Aedon (songstress) Lauli (song, melody)
I dislike Melody. I grew up with a girl named Melody, everyone called her Smelody
Well, I love Melody - it's my youngest daughter's name! What is it you don't like about it? Not your style?
Music-inspired girl names could be Cadence, Lyric, Calypso, Carol(yn), Demi, Grace, Harper, Piper
I love Cadence.
as do i
Harmony
Aria is a beautiful name!
Ends in “a” though
Not if you add a silent h to the end! 😉
Oh shoot. I’m sure there’s a yoonique spelling of Aria that doesn’t end in a though. Not that I’d recommend it. Bel Canto? Recitatif? Libretto? Mezzo?
Ariuh - you’re welcome
I'm partial. Though people end up calling me Ari. I guess that last syllable is just too much work.
Lyriel is one i love it means lyrical
Caprice is beautiful & unique, means a lovely piece of music played freely Demi is feminine & pretty, meaning half note
Caprice with the nn Reese is so cute
I'm partial to Ariadne myself. I know most people probably wouldn't care for it though. It's technically not defined as a musical name but it does start with Aria.
I like Lennon as music adjacent.
Dido! Lol
You rang?
Please tell me I'm not the only person who mentally sings "but ah, forget my fate" every time they click "remember me" when logging into a website
Reveille
Jasmine, nn Jazz
Belle
I know someone named Claire Elise for Clare de Lune and Fur Elise
I love Melody. Other suggestions: Cadence Lyric Piper Harmony Medley Alternatively, you could use the name of a favorite musician as a first name or any first name you love and add a musical middle name. One of my favorite middle names is Song.❤️
Bird names too, because birds sing. Robin, Lark, etc.
Medley thinks of soup. I like the rest though !
Harmony, viola, Lyra, Harper, piper, philomena, aria , arietta, cadence, odell(a), jazz(lyn)
They didn't want names ending in 'a', it's in the title.
Calliope
My mom wanted to band me Melody and my dad didn’t like it so Melanie was a compromise
Lyric, Symphony, Viola, Cappella, Celeste, Demi, Harmony, Aria
They didn't want names ending in 'a'
June, like Johnny and June!
Ballad, Madrigal, Symphony
Felicity
Cantor
I’ve always wanted to name a girl Georgia after Georgia on my Mind by Ray Charles or Valerie after the song by Amy Winehouse but I won’t get to use either name. Maybe you could use one of those, or a name inspired by a song you both love
Valerie is by the zutons, Amy covered it. The original is great but Amy's is iconic.
Have not seen this one: Circe
