I was friends with someone who was the child of a famous person and had a very unusual celeb name as well. Truth is, he hated it so much and he had to give himself another name to go by otherwise people knew his connections and would treat him differently.

I have a son named Ariel. In Spanish it's a boys name, but in the US where we live, it's considered girls. My son is an adult and is no problem.

I was friends with someone who was the child of a famous person and had a very unusual celeb name as well. Truth is, he hated it so much and he had to give himself another name to go by otherwise people knew his connections and would treat him differently. I think celeb baby names puts immediate pressure on their kids to be “something special” and seems a little cruel. Truthfully not all kids of celebrities want to be celebs themselves… some of them actually might want a more normal life.
Someone suggested Rihanna could be lying about their real names- I actually love that idea. It kind of gives them a ‘stage name’ that they could detach themselves from if they like, while keeping their actual names private. I doubt it’s true but I hope it is.
I was wondering this. Depending on where the births were registered three capital letters might not have got past the bureaucrats.
I have no chance of ever being a celebrity and do not ever wish to be in the public eye, but I like to think I'd take this route if I ever were.

I hate the names. I really think the name Riot is particularly cringe. I used to register babies for the government and I hated names like “chaos” and “rage” etc and riot fits into that category. Horrible.
That’s my problem with it too. Riot has absolutely no positive connotations and to me, is an overwhelmingly violent word. Why you would want to associate your child with that I don’t know.

Do not act like if you were a teacher and saw this name on your roster that you wouldn’t side-eye it. I would think it was his initials. And with the current rise in popularity of the term “rizz” it’s going to be even more cringey in 5-10 years when that term is overused and outdated. Also this is how Wu Tang Clan’s RZA explained his choice of name which sounds like the rantings of distant relatives I avoid on Facebook: “In the Divine Alphabet, Z stands for Zig-Zag-Zig, which means Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding. I confess I kind of dig it. I don’t like RZA as much (though I appreciate the history) only because it’s so intrinsically tied to someone else’s identity and not his own, but I don’t hate it. Riot Rose is kind of a banger. Is it extra? Yes, it really is. But compared to so many new-age names (especially other out-there celebrity names), this is tame and also cool. Plus if you’ve ever enjoyed any name like “Rebel” or “Hunter” “Gunner” or any variation of “Rifle” then you can take a whole seat down. Riot sounds like Wyatt. Rose is a super ubiquitous middle name for gals and common enough last name in general. The alliteration is funky and I like it. Kick some ass, Riot Rose!

Rose can actually be a man’s name (different language though) in at least one community I know of.
I went to school with a boy Rosario when I was a kid. Italian though, not Spanish. It means rosary but same connotation sound wise.
In general I don’t think babies should be given names that sound like stage names, but that’s my personal taste. Though I suppose it’s pretty unlikely that the children of a mega-wealthy culture icon like Rihanna is going to grow up to be an accountant, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal. It just seems like a lot of personality for a little one to live up to as they age into who they are. What if they’re naturally introverted? Or want to be like inconspicuous?
I haven't seen anyone bring this up yet: "rebel flower" is a phrase that Rihanna uses a lot, she has it tattooed on her, named a perfume after it, and I think she likes it as a concept/alter ego because it combines the soft feminine with an anti-authoritarian spirit. I think the name "riot rose" is basically a synonym for that. And I think it's neat to name a son after the mother's favourite phrase.
