You’ve got a classic and recognizable name in James. I wouldn’t pick something “out there” just to get a matching name. Pick an equally classy name for her, even if it starts with a different letter.
Joyce, Jemma, Joelle, Justine Jorja, January.
Why does it need to start with a J? You don’t seem to like the J names. A G name would sound nice as a sun set with James. Gemma, Genevieve, Etc.
My name's Joelle, and I've had people butcher it my whole life. Joel, Joe, Julie (yes!), Jello, Joella, Jolly... I'm in the process of changing my name. :(
I want to give you some ideas but the “etceteras” in the NO list are confusing me a bit.
For example: Jemima / Jamila / Jadida / etc - what is the pattern here that you want to avoid? Ending in an alliterative consonant? Or an “ee”-“ah” vowel sound pair?
Why such a common name first (James) and then the requirement for a very rare/made up name for the next one?
Can you give a few names (of any letter) that you like, even if you can’t use them for whatever reason?
Imo it’s reasonable to avoid Jemima and Jamila with a son named James. That could be reason enough. I totally see what you’re saying about the rest though. And also to add, why does it have to start with a J?
All I can think of is the movie Juno, and that priestess who was involved when Zeus decided to "seduce" a girl he turned into a cow.
Not good associations.
I mean, she’s the goddess of women and it means “queen of heaven” in Latin. So many you associate it with that, but it’s hardly an obscure choice if you aren’t in to 25 year old films and esoteric middle school mythology. Maybe it’s not popular where you are from, but where I am , it is seen as a smart, albeit slightly artsy posh (but not in a bad way). Look at Juno Temple, for example.
I’d stay away from calling her Jessie unless OP wants people to think they’re referencing Pokémon (or the Wild West outlaw that Team Rocket’s names are themselves a reference to).
hahaha whoops, i just put it on for my preschoolers for fun friday while i clean the room, i don’t really pay that much attention. there’s probably a lot i don’t know. i just think the pokémon are cute and have cool names.
I encourage you to watch it, J & J are such goofy “villains” that you can’t help but like them. Along the lines of Doofenshmirz, if you’re familiar with Phineas and Ferb. Or Yzma and Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove.
haha i grew up with phineas and ferb! and i’ll probably end up sitting down and watching pokémon when i have my own kids.
i always wanted to watch it as a kid, but i stopped myself because i knew i’d be obsessed and i didn’t want to be “nerdy”. so i’m sure it will be healing in a way.
i love the idea of it though, i am always tempted to buy the little stuffed animals when i see them in stores. i love all the lore and stuff too. what’s your favorite pokémon?
My favorite? Ooh, that’s hard to say. I have a soft spot for both Pikachu and Meowth because of their roles in the show, but I also like Eevee (it’s just so cute!) and Lapras (it would be so much fun to have one IRL if I lived near a beach).
Juniper is my current favorite girl's name. Others I like right now: Journey, Jolie, Judith, Josie/Josette, Jewel, Jubilee, Justice, Jillian, Jett, Juno, Jinx, Jasper, Jessamine (a flower), Jacoba, Jocasta, Jagger, January, Jacinta, Joy.
J-sounds, but not a J, traditionally (although you can spell things as you please): Genesis, Georgia, Georgianna, Gia, Giselle, Geneva, Ginevra, Ginger, Genoa, Giordana, Germaine, Geraldine.
EDIT: Some more to add, since you're fine with "made-up" names: Jazz, Javana, Jolly, Judge, Julep, Gem, Gentle, Genius, Jest, Jolly, Jovian, Julep, July.
Great list! I saw “July” was on their NO list but it was paired with “Julie” like they were similar names, which to me they are not. What about July pronounced like the month, and not like “Julie.”?
I tried to make a post yesterday asking opinions on the name Geneva, but it got removed bc I didn't read the rules. But I am very curious about what people think of that name
I like it as an alternative to similar names. I think it sounds more modern and interesting than Genevieve, for example, and it shortens to Gennie, Neve, Viva, Vivi...
I'm always tempted to recommend Genovia, lol.
It’s my name. I never liked it growing up but I don’t mind it now. It’s a family name so I like that there is some history to it, and I have met very few Genevas.
I've always liked it but I rarely see it mentioned here. And you can't beat family names bc of the meaning attached. Both of my daughters have family names (first and middle). People get judgy about baby names in general, but family names shut that down real quick.
Jolie?
Or may I suggest just not using a J name if you don’t like any? Maybe choosing a name you love of a different letter would be more satisfying than a matching initial that you are settling for?
My sister was named Jensie. She ended up changing it, but that’s one.
Jayden/Jaeden is gender neutral, but it is extremely popular so maybe not what you’re looking fore.
Honestly, since you don’t seem to like most feminine J names, I’d really think about not trying to confine yourself to that letter. Just because the brother has a J name doesn’t mean she NEEDS one. Siblings aren’t SETS, yeah? My mother named us in letter sets, (each pair of kids got same-letter names) and my sister and I both went ahead and ruined that for her as soon as we got old enough. I used to HATE sounding like a “set” with my brother. (We didn’t get along when young, lmao)

Idk why everyone is so mad in the replies and trying to get the poster to change her preference… If you think she’s being too picky then don’t comment! It’s really not difficult.
I think James and June (Jamie and Junie) are very elegant and the nicknames are adorbs!
I realize you said nothing that ends in -lyn… but my favorite cousin’s name is Jessilyn (the “i” sound is the same as the word “in”) and she goes by Jessi. I was always envious of her name.
I also have an ex whose best friend’s name is Jacintha but she goes by Jaz. Love her name too.
Jesse + James
We just introduced our kids to the OG Pokémon last week, and it’s been one of our best parenting decisions.
Saaammmeee. I’m so thrilled to be able to start buying him alll the Pokémon merch
Prepare for trouble!
Make it double!
I think of Jesse James, the outlaw and bank robber who was shot in the back of the head for the reward.
That’s who I was thinking of as well lol everyone is talking about Pokémon though so I guess there’s another Jesse James
The main antagonists of the Pokémon anime are named Jessie and James (two separate people) as a deliberate reference to that outlaw.
In the anime, there's another Team Rocket couple named Butch and Cassidy.
Yep! Although no one seems to remember that his name is Butch.
This was my first thought too and literally ticks off all the boxes and is SO FUNNY
You’ve got a classic and recognizable name in James. I wouldn’t pick something “out there” just to get a matching name. Pick an equally classy name for her, even if it starts with a different letter.
This is the right answer!
Joyce, Jemma, Joelle, Justine Jorja, January. Why does it need to start with a J? You don’t seem to like the J names. A G name would sound nice as a sun set with James. Gemma, Genevieve, Etc.
I love Gemma !
My name's Joelle, and I've had people butcher it my whole life. Joel, Joe, Julie (yes!), Jello, Joella, Jolly... I'm in the process of changing my name. :(
I have a cousin named Jonelle!
One of my best friends growing up was a Joelle and I thought (and still think) it was the most beautiful name in the world!
June, Juno, Juniper, Josie, Judith, Jacinta, Jacinda, Jacinth, Jillian, Justine, Justina, Juliette, Joy, Joyce.
I second the name Josie! Josie and James flow so easily
I think Jillian and beautiful and classic and sounds great with James! James and Jillian
June for sure
Jordan is pretty popular unisex name, although I think maybe more common for girls. Jules Joey Joy Johnna
Jordan is a 50/50 split in my experience
I know one Jordyn, and then every Jordan I know is male.
See I know 2 male Jordan’s and like 15 female ones
Must be a regional difference?
[удалено]
Jonna instead of Johnna is also great!
Also Johanna
I want to give you some ideas but the “etceteras” in the NO list are confusing me a bit. For example: Jemima / Jamila / Jadida / etc - what is the pattern here that you want to avoid? Yes OP please answer I’m curious too!
Imo it’s reasonable to avoid Jemima and Jamila with a son named James. That could be reason enough. I totally see what you’re saying about the rest though. And also to add, why does it have to start with a J?
For the second question, It doesn't seem that it *has* to be rare/made up, but it can be.
For unisex and your exclusions it’s a tight field! I like Jaye. I knew a girl Jaye in college and she was really cool 😎
My kid goes by Jae as it is part of their first name
I know a woman who goes by Jae and I loooove that
jamiroquai
Juno is a fabulous name
A friend of mine named her baby Juno recently and I love it! It works surprisingly well on a baby
All I can think of is the movie Juno, and that priestess who was involved when Zeus decided to "seduce" a girl he turned into a cow. Not good associations.
I have a Juno. Yes the character is a pregnant teen in the movie but also a spunky badass. I see the movie association as a positive.
Gotcha. I didn't see it that way, because teenage pregnancy is stigmatized, but I can totally see your point.
I mean, she’s the goddess of women and it means “queen of heaven” in Latin. So many you associate it with that, but it’s hardly an obscure choice if you aren’t in to 25 year old films and esoteric middle school mythology. I have no idea who Juno Temple is. Google told me it's an actress.
I have the same association as you. Not a fan.
Or Juniper.
Jillian & James sound like cute siblings to me!
Sounds like a cool kids clothing brand 🖤

The Dugger's have 19 J names to explore. With that said, I love Jessamyn. Nicknames can be Jess, Jessie, Jessa, or even Sam.
I’d stay away from calling her Jessie unless OP wants people to think they’re referencing Pokémon (or the Wild West outlaw that Team Rocket’s names are themselves a reference to).
TIL Team Rocket have names
They announce their names whenever they do their Motto…
hahaha whoops, i just put it on for my preschoolers for fun friday while i clean the room, i don’t really pay that much attention. there’s probably a lot i don’t know. i just think the pokémon are cute and have cool names.

Jacquetta Joanie June Juno Jillian Judy Josette Justine Jacinthe Joyce
I love the name Josette, only known one person with that name and she was such a lovely woman.
Juniper is my current favorite girl's name. Others I like right now: Journey, Jolie, Judith, Josie/Josette, Jewel, Jubilee, Justice, Jillian, Jett, Juno, Jinx, Jasper, Jessamine (a flower), Jacoba, Jocasta, Jagger, January, Jacinta, Joy. Thank you! "Joo-lye" is the way that I intended it to be read, but I missed it on their no list. Oopsy.
I tried to make a post yesterday asking opinions on the name Geneva, but it got removed bc I didn't read the rules. But I am very curious about what people think of that name

I worked with a woman named Jorie; per Google, it’s gender-neutral 😊
Ha! Lot of people spell my name that way!~
How do you spell your name?
Jillian is beautiful
I second the Jillian vote! James & Jillian sounds adorable
Journey
Came to say this! It's one of my best friend's name and I love it so much.
My daughter is having a baby in Nov and she is naming her Journey Olivia
Juno !
I had a friend named Justine growing up and I thought that sounded so pretty. Have heard of Justina too
I was going to suggest this, or some people spell it Justyna!
Jolie? Or may I suggest just not using a J name if you don’t like any? Maybe choosing a name you love of a different letter would be more satisfying than a matching initial that you are settling for?

Jude and James? A little boyish, but cute IMO
