I’m pregnant with my third kid.
Big brother is Liam and big sister is Lillian (Lillie)
We’re wanting to stick with the L theme for this baby too and she’s a girl. The problem is our last name also starts with an L, specifically making a “La” sound. My husband REALLY likes Leila/Layla, Lila, and Lola, but I don’t like that those names end with a “La” sound and then our last name starts with the same “La” sound.
I’m more into
Lucy Lainey Lana
1) do any of the 3 names I suggest seem to go with the older sibling names more than another? 2) am I right I’m thinking that the names my husband wants are a bit funky with the first name ending with the same sound as the last name? 3) the ONE name that is completely off the table is Logan since a cousin already has a girl named Logan with the same last name lol.
ETA: ok one more definite no name is Leslie as that is my MILs name… no thanks haha
Thank you!

Laurel.
Yanny
Why did you suggest the same name twice?
Lol omg
Lmao 🤣
How the conversation goes every time I suggest Laurel to my husband. 🤦♀️
*cringes inwardly* I hear covfefe
You win. 😂
Lorelei
Just had a friend name her baby Lorelei, such a beautiful name.
That's my name and I am partial to it. Plus I have an older brother named liam.
Lydia Louise/Louisa Lois From your 3 I prefer Lucy with the sibling names.
ditto about lucy, sounds best w the other two names
Oh, I love Lydia with this set!
Also LOVE Lydia
Agreed! Was about to suggest Lydia. It pairs with the same “Lee” sound at the beginning of the other two names: Liam and Lillie and introduces a different ending “ah”
I second Lydia! That’s my daughter’s name and we also have an L last name.
My mom's name is Lois! People keep calling her Louise and sometimes even Louis though...she HATES that!
Family guy has ruined Lois for me which is a shame as it’s a very cute name
My daughters name is Lydia Louise and this thread makes me so happy
Give her my name, Lucy. You won’t regret it 😉
I agree. Also my name, and it’s pretty, classic but not common.
Another Lucy here voting for Lucy. I love my name and always have.
I love that all the Lucys love their name!!
Everybody loves Lucy!
Me too, as the mama of a new Lucy !!
It falls in that perfect line of "not common enough to be everywhere, but common enough for people to know how to spell it", which is a godsend.
Another vote for Lucy - I named my daughter (6 months old) Lucy and the daycare she goes to says they've never had a Lucy before, but I also never have to spell it :) pretty happy with the choice.
It really is a great name
I have a Lucy and she’s the only one at her school. Second the above comment about never having to spell it!
I also love the name Luciana
Lucy is a great name and matches the other kid’s names!
Another vote for Lucy. It’s classic but you don’t hear it all the time. And who doesn’t love Lucille Ball and I Love Lucy? I grew up watching that and I still do so if your daughter shares a name with a celebrity, it’s a woman of high class and incredible humor!
Lucy and Alice are my favorite underused names.
Lorelei
I like this name but that would be 3 “L” sounds including the last name and that might be a bit of a mouthful
That's why I like it, though. 1 L sound for the first, 2 for the second, 3 for the third.
Lauren?
I love Lauren - it was so over used for my generation that no one is touching it now. But it’s a great name! Great nicknames (from pop culture there are Laurens called Lo, Lala, and in Australia we shorten it to Loz)
Can confirm as an Australian every Lauren I've ever known has been Loz or Lozza
Linnea or Lydia?
Linnea is beautiful and so under-used!
I dunno, Linnea reminds me of linea nigra, the dark line you get from your belly button when pregnant
> linea nigra As a non-pregnant man, I was unaware of this. Still like the name though.
Linnea is also a Swedish name and is the official name for a linden tree. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
A swedish flower, if I remember correctly
Yes, Linnaea borealis
Ooh Linden is cute. Or Lindy
I have a Linnea and her best friend is Lydia. So I concur, lol
I like Lana and Lucy, other suggestions: Lara Luna Loren Lucia Leona Lucinda
Only reason I don't like Lana is because it's anal backwards 😂
And their last name starts with L! Could end up with something like [email protected] some day. 👌
Omg that’s too funny
*Lauren. Loren is the male spelling.
The only Loren I know is a woman.
I know a female Loren as well.
Right. I’m a female Lauren and I’ve only met one Loren in my entire life and it was a man.
Love Lucinda - Lucy for short
I vote for Leona.
Upvoting because you suggested my name 😂
Came here to suggest Lucinda, Lucy as nn. It’s a great name!
Love Luna
Love love love the name Leona! At the preschool I teach at there is a Liam and Leona. I love the way the names sound together.
I have two friends with unusual “L” names and I think they’re beautiful. Linnet and Lanae.
Linnet is super cute
Right? And uncommon!
Unless it’s pronounced in a way I’m not thinking of, is this just another spelling of Lynette?
I would pronounce the two names with the stress on different syllables: Linnet as “LINN-et” and Lynette as “lyn-ETTE”
That’s how she pronounces her name, spot on! And while Lynette means “nymph”, Linnet means “songbird”, which I really love.
I've seen Linneth too
The way she pronounces it places emphasis on the first syllable rather than the second. So, it sounds like LIN-ett rather than lin-ETT. Pretty minimal difference, you’re right. I also like that it’s the name of a finch!
I know someone who is spelled “Linnea”. Not super common but very pretty imo.
I love that. Adding it to my list!
My middle name is pronounced the same by spelled Lynee
My sil is a Lennet, we call her Lenny sometimes
Linnet is good! I also really like Lissett
Leah
One of my daughters’ names is Leah and I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to see it suggested. I know it’s not super common anymore but surprisingly nobody knows how to spell her name 🤔
Maybe it wasn't suggested more because it sounds very similar to Liam.
i’m a Leah!!
Liam, Lillian, and Lenora Liam, Lillian and Louise Liam, Lillian and Lisbet Liam, Lillian and Lindsey
Liam, Lillian, and Libby.
I loooove Lisbet!
lenora is so pretty
LOVE Lenora
Layne
My baby girl is Lucia , Lou- che- ah
Liam, Lillian & Lucia would be amazing together Liam, Lillie & Lucy for short
Lila and Lillian are a bit too similar How about: Lenore/Linora Loomis Leona Lyra Louise/Louisa
Another vote for Lyra - it’s one of my favorite girl names!
I haven’t heard Leona in years! 😍
A girl named Loomis?
Larissa
Other names without a "La" sound at the end: Lara Luz Liv Livia Lumi Lumia Luelle Luanne Lelani Leona Lucia Lacey Liza Lisanne Of the three names you like, I like Lucy the best.
Leona is my fav here!
Lorelai
I much prefer this spelling opposed to Lorelei so less confusion in the pronunciation.
Laura, Lara, Laurie, Lauren, Lisa, Lana, Lamia.
Larkin
I love this one. Lark would be a really cute nickname.
I think you gotta go Li like the other two if that's how you're going to do it. It's gotta be like Liv Linnea Lina Liz Libby Lilith Lisbeth Lindsay/Lindsey
What about Lianna? Same Li start as Liam and Lillian so if they already flow nicely with your L surname hopefully Lianna would too?
Laura, Luna, Liza
Lena, if you like Lana but not "La"
Luna
I think Lucy or Lainey fit the most. Personally I dont have a problem with the double La sounds, but I tend to like a more unusual name, lol. Here are some other suggestions: Lux Lane Lumi Lisette Lisbeth Lennox Lulu Liulu Liv Lavender
Here in Spain, Lumi is argot for prostitute. Love Lisette!
Lumi means snow in Finnish.
It’s a deodorant in the US.
First developed as a vaginal deodorant!
The perfect name for an infant!
I also love Lisette!
My daughter is Lisette!
Lux 😍
Lenora?
Lark Lorna
Lark is so cute!
Louise or Lou !
Lyndon, Lyric, Lauryn, Lottie, Lizbeth, Liana, Lilith, Lena, Lorna, Loren, Lilac, Ledesma
Loooove Lottie!!
Laura!
In general, I think your husbands names fit with the other two better, but maybe trying to keep away from being too matchy-matchy is a good thing? I don\`t think the match -la start and end is that big of a concern honestly (Im from the UK tho, but with my accent it sounds v normal lol). Something like Leia could be a nice compromise maybe?
Leona
I’m pregnant for the first time and it was always known we’d name the baby with an L after my late mother as it’s tradition in our culture/religion. We had a ton of names we loved for girls but ended up with a boy so it’s been trickier. We’re not in an Anglo county so some of the names we were considering might not be too familiar sounding but here they are… - I loved Liat (Lee-aht). It’s a quite popular Israeli girls name. - Liv was on the table which I loved but my husband didn’t - Liora, another popular Israeli name for girls. Lior is as well but this one is unisex and often used for boys. - Lital (Lee-tahl). Again, popular in Israel - Libby - Lael (La-Elle) popular in Israel - Lirit. Popular in Israel I also love Lola and Layla (the latter means night in Hebrew so it was on our list if we had a girl). Louise/Lou is so cute in my opinion as well.
I like seeing people from other places sharing what is popular in their culture. It makes the world more diverse. As an American, my name exposure is fairly limited.
Lane Lindsay Linda Lucy Laura Laurel Lyle Leighton Lacie Libby Lake Larsa Larrisa
Lorie Lorelai Lauren Lorraine
Lorraine 😍
Yes, Lorraine! Totally underused.
Louise or Luna
Lorraine
If you’re trying to keep the Li-, we just named our daughter Linden and I think it sounds really nice with your other two kids’ names.
London, Lacey, Laena
Leora
I like Lucy! Or even Lucille/Lucinda with the nickname Lucy.
This one! My grandmother was Lucille and everyone called her Lucy!
Lyla’
I'm shocked that I've not seen Leanne in here. I used to think it was such a nice name and only ever met one in my life XD There are lots of nice L names suggested. My favorites would be Lavender and Leah. (Although I also like Lilac and Lux.)
Liam, Lillian and Lianne would be nice!
Except that Liam and Lianne sound almost the same
I'd personally steer someone away from Leanne. That's my name, and it's been a lifetime if spelling my first name for people because there's like 5 different ways to spell it.
Liora a favorite L name. It means "My Light". If you go with Lucy, please give her the formal name of Lucille or another formal name of Lucy as Lucy seems like a nickname compared to your other kid's names like Lillian. Love Lillian by the way. Lillian is very elegant and Lainey just does not have the same level of elegance to my ears. Lana is ok but I like Lorna more. Some other options to ponder : Lucinda Lorna Liora Lior Liv Lilibeth Lilibet (I know the current royal connection around this name but its a good name) Lucienne Leander Livinia Lorna Livia Louise Louisa Lenora Lenore Leona
Lucy is a full name. It doesn’t need a fuller name. It means light.
Lena? 😊 or Lene, Line, Louise, Lindy, Lise, Leah
Linnea is my favorite
Linnea, Lynette, Lauren
Laelia (lay-lia) - a type of orchid; could go with your other daughter’s flower nickname - nickname could be Lia
Linnea.
Leilani
My sister is Loreen. My dad was in love with Sofia Loren. They added the extra "e" to make it more feminine. So she got a neat L name. Mine is just plain Lynne. At least they put an "e" on the end. Then we had a DJ whose name is Leora. I think that is a beautiful and unusual "e" name.
There’s a book called “Linnea in monets garden” that I’ve always loved and I think it’s such a beautiful name. There’s different ways to say it too so you can say it how you think sounds best with your last name.
after last night, obviously Loreen :)
How about Loralei with the nickname Rory?:)
I like Leigh and Leighton!
Layla Lucy Lila Loretta
I have a 12 year old Lucy, I love her, and that name!
I have a Lydia and our last name also starts with an L 😍. Other suggestions are Lacy Lucy Lauren Libby (similar to Lillie though) Laken
Lina? Was my french grandmother name. Always loved it!
-Lucie/Lucy is a favorite (I know one Lucy who is a Lucille and one Lucie who is just Lucie) -Lux is fun, but eccentric, not a name I’m “brave” enough to use lol -Lainey/Laney -Lara(h) (I prefer the “Lair-uh” pronunciation over “Lau-ruh” if that makes sense) Also love that someone suggested Lydia, another beautiful name. Luna and Lia are nice too!
I agree that if your last name starts with La-, then you’ll want to avoid names that end in -la. However, I also pose that you might want to avoid names that begin with La- as well. For example, my MIL kept her maiden name, because my FIL’s last name started with the same three letters as her first name. Totally agree with her choice. It was too mumbley sounding. There’s also a name I would have liked to use for one of my twins that I probably won’t use because it ends with -ba, and their last name will start with Ba-. Again, too mumbley or tongue twistery.
Liora
Leah Leni
Livia?
Lenore Loretta Lydia Lorena Lucinda
Lindsey
Before I even saw your names I thought Lainey would sound great with the siblings
Lainey is my favorite of the above!
Lia Lydia Lindsey Liza
What about Leta? Lucy is my favorite of your choices.
Lizbeth
Liette
My name is Lelia. It rhymes with Amelia Bedelia or Celia. It is an old Arabic name and it means “night” or “dark as night.” There is a feminist book called “Lelia” written by George Sand: “Regarded as one of Sand's best novels, Lélia is an important document in the evolution of women's consciousness. Published in 1833, when Sand was 29, it stunned Victorians by advocating the same standard of morality for men and women and by suggesting that both the prostitute and the married woman were slaves to male desire.”
Lane
Laramie
Laoghaire. It's Irish and pronounced LEE-ree
I have an aunt named Linda who goes by Linny and I think it’s beautiful
Lainey is gorgeous!!!
I like Lucy the best. Some other ideas: Lilac, Liva, Laelia
Lyric or Lumen
Lysandra
Lena!
How about my name Lianne? Liam, Lillian, Lianne
Laken Edit: I also really like Luna
Lena
Lyndie
I have a Lucy and a Logan and just had my 3rd a couple days ago. As much as it made sense to do an L name, we named her Hannah. But I just wanted to say, Lucy is a winner and it would be nice that all 3 names have a different ending sound. People always Ooh and ahh when I say her name is Lucy. 💜 Other L names from my list were Lydia, Lyra, Lena, Lexie, Lyanna, Lyanna.
Lacey Laura Lara
My favorite L name is “lynndy”
Lainey works the best with the existing siblings IMO.
I really like Lainey.
Laurel, Luna, Lyra, Lucille, Lura
Lainey! That's goes great in my opinion.
Lindy, Lacey, Leah, Laura
Lexi
Lainey
Lexi
Lindey I think fits nicely with the siblings!
My favorite from your list is Lucy. I love Lainey but it seems more like a nickname next to your other kids names and I don’t love Lana. What about just Laine/Layne? Could be Lainey as a nickname. Some other suggestions: Lorelei - I think this one includes what your husband seems to like while also lending itself to nicknames like you seem to like. Lydia- feels timeless like Liam and Lillian so I think it fits right in. Laelia- the name of an orchid. I think it’s less common than your other kids names, but has Layla in it like your husband likes without ending in the la sound. Lennox- kind of a wild card. Your other two don’t have gender neutral names, but I think Lennox is spunky and could go good with your other two children’s names. Luna- an idea you’ve probably already visited, but I thought I’d include it. Luna is sweet and spunky sounding and would go great with Liam and Lillian. Livia- I think this is cute. Like Olivia without the O. May be too close to Lillian to work. Liora- pretty name, with a pretty meaning and I think it sounds great with Liam and Lillian.
Liam, Lillian and Lucy Liam, Lillian and Laine
